Selene’s POV

“You are two months pregnant,” the doctor said, his voice filling the room after a few seconds of silence.

A loud gasp escaped my lips as I turned toward Leo, my cane slipping from my grip as I reached for him in shock.

“Are you sure about that? Is she really pregnant?” he questioned, his voice filled with disbelief.

The doctor chuckled lightly. “Congratulations Alpha, Luna. The moon goddess has finally blessed us with an heir.”

Before I could utter a word, a loud shout of joy filled the air and I was hoisted up in the air by Leo.

“Thank you so much baby, thank you for doing this for me,” he murmured hugging me tight.

A sense of satisfaction washed over me at the news. I have been mated to Leo, the alpha of Moonblood pack for two years, and in those two years, knowing how desperately Leo wanted a child, I had tried everything I could, been to so many seers, doctors, and had even secretly consulted a witch who carried out rituals and fed me with concoctions for three days.

I couldn’t believe that the moon goddess had finally decided to smile down on me.

Tears of happiness welled up in my unseeing eyes but I blinked hard, refusing to let them fall.

A gentle touch brought me out of my reverie. “Sel, we need to leave now. You need to rest, no more hard chores or unnecessary outings. You need to be indoors making sure our baby is completely fine. I promise to be here for you through it all,” Leo said, placing a soft kiss on my hand.

A soft smile spread across my face as I squeezed his hand gently.

Two years ago after my blindness, when my world had gone dark and my family had cast me aside like a piece of unwanted clothing, Leo was the only one who reached for me.

He had taken me in as his mate and Luna despite my shortcomings and I have spent everyday of my life in gratitude, trying to be worthy of that kindness.

With a final thank you to the doctor, we rose, made our way toward the car, and exited the hospital.

Our ride back home was mostly quiet with Leo occasionally placing soft, fluttery kisses on my arm and murmuring his thanks. When we arrived at the mansion, Leo turned off the Ignition. I reached blindly for my cane, preparing to step out of the car but Leo’s sudden yell made me pause.

“No, don’t do that, you’ll be stressing yourself,” he said, lifting me out of the car.

I wrapped my hands around his neck and giggled like a little girl on Christmas as he carried me into the house, guiding me gently toward the bedroom and placing me gently on the bed.

“I love you so much Sel, you are truly a gift from the moon goddess. Thank you for coming into my life,” he muttered, inhaling my scent as he placed a kiss on my cheeks.

I smiled, hugging him tightly. Just as I was about to speak, a knock sounded on the door and the maid announced the arrival of his beta, Kade.

“You can go,” I said, gently placing a kiss on his cheek.

With one final soft squeeze, he rose and made his way out of the room.

After a few minutes of relishing in the happiness of my incoming child, my stomach soon began to rumble and since it was a happy day for us, I decided I’ll ask the cook to make a little feast for us.

Reaching for my cane, I rose from the bed, slowly began to make my way out of the room, and toward the kitchen but my steps faltered when I reached Leo’s office, an unusual smell of cigarettes filled my nostrils.

I knew Leo only smoked when he was troubled or frustrated and that made me worry. Hesitating for a second, I reached for the doorknob but the next words that floated through the slightly opened door, made me freeze.

“Now that she’s pregnant, she really needs the eye surgery. Raising a baby while being blind can be harmful. This is the heir to the pack, the one child you have been wanting for years now,” Kade’s deep voice resonated through the space. “We need to make sure everything is fine and nothing out of the ordinary happens while she’s pregnant.”

My heart raced in anticipation with hope flooding through me. I would finally see my mate’s fate and that of our unborn child. Tears of joy welled up at the corner of my eyes as I whispered a silent thank you to the moon goddess and to my mate.

But the next few words that filled the space made me choke on the air I was breathing.

“There’s no need for that. She’s okay the way she is. She doesn’t need to stress herself taking care of the child. I’ll get as many maids that are required to help out with everything,” Leo muttered, his voice devoid of any emotion.

I blinked rapidly, trying to make sure I heard correctly and that I wasn’t hallucinating but his next words wiped every doubt in me.

“The surgery would be a waste of money.”

My knees buckled at his words, I suddenly forgot how to breathe and I gasped for air as tears poured uncontrollably down my face.

Leo doesn’t want me to see again? But ever since the accident happened, we have always spoken about how we couldn’t wait to find a donor and have me see again. Why was he saying all of this now?

I stood frozen in place, unable to move when suddenly, Kade spoke up again.

“I don’t mean to pry but this doesn’t make any single sense. When Amelia her sister was in the same position three years ago, you didn’t hesitate to rush to her aid. And when you couldn’t find a donor on time, you didn’t hesitate to stage the accident and steal Selene’s corneas for her while lying to her that the blindness was caused by the moon goddess's curse which runs in your family.”

My grip on the cane tightened, and different emotions swirled through me as my heart raced frantically. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was a joke or a prank, if they knew I was standing right outside the door.

“She’s your mate, you marked her and she’ll be with you for life. Do you want to keep fending for her all your life? Will you be able to cater to the child alone while carrying out your alpha duties? Now it’s getting clearer who you truly love and want because if this were her sister, Amelia, you wouldn’t respond this way.”

A wry chuckle filled the air. “Enough Kade, you clearly don’t understand anything. Amelia isn’t just any woman, she’s the woman I have vowed to protect till my last dying breath. Selene wasn’t my first choice, the moon goddess chose her for me just so she can bear me pups since I can’t do that with any other woman.”

“I made her Luna Kade. I made her my mate after her family abandoned her. I helped her regain her prestige. That is more than enough.”

It suddenly felt as if the whole world was closing in on me. My whole body trembled as tears poured down my cheeks seamlessly with my wolf, Nina struggling to surface. I placed a hand on my chest, trying to stop the burning pain I was feeling but it did nothing to help, it suddenly felt like I had forgotten how to breathe.

Just as I turned around to leave, my cane slipped from my hand and the door suddenly swung open causing me to freeze on the spot.

Lucian’s POVThe nearest medical facility with enough equipment to handle dark magic and the kind of injury that Selene sustained was on the neutral grounds amd it was three minutes away from where we were. I had never wished that I knew medicine like I did at that moment.I carried her, half Kairos and half my own form. I could barely see through the tension rising in me, nor could I hear her heartbeat well over my racing one.I didn’t wait to use a car, Kairos was two times faster than any car we’d find. So, we cut down the three minutes to one minute and thirty seconds. When we got to the hospital and I was told to place her on a stretcher, I refused. “Where’s the room she’ll be taken to?” I asked them, knowing they’d be so slow that Kairos might fully shift right there in that hallway. They seemed to understand what was going on and really pointed me to the room that they intended to put her in. I dropped her there and only then did I look up to look around the room and it was to

Selene’s POVHe looked at Vera on the ground and the look on his face wasn’t one that I was familiar with.No one answered the question he just asked, we were all just staring at Vera’s body on the ground. More black blood pooled out of her body.I looked back at Axel and saw that he didn’t even look like what he was when he was the council head, nor did he look like he looked when he sat across from me and Lucian and confessed to being willing enough to assist with taking down Vera.He looked like a man who was consumed by guilt instead. The real and unmanaged kind of grief that didn’t care if anyone was watching.“What have you done?!” He yelled.I straightened and stood up properly, “She’s dead, Axel.” I said, still trying to figure out why he looked like he had just been told very bad news.He looked up from Vera to me and the expression on his face was no longer grief but… anger.“You killed her.” He said in an accusing tone.“She would have killed everyone in this room,” I said

Lucian’s POVShe rose up and the feeling of familiarity struck me hard. I had surely seen her before. That, I was sure of.Vera’s eyes moved from mine, going past mine to Selene who was a bit beside and behind me. She had just the exact hatred of a woman who has spent thirty years hating another person and has just gotten the opportunity to come face to face with them.“And you…” she trailed off, pointing at Selene. “You who walked in and took everything that was meant to be—”I cut her off and shook my head, “This ends tonight.”She did not come at me quietly. I swiftly moved Selene behind me while Vera stretched out her hand and moved with the speed of someone who has been using dark magic as their supplement for years, one that wasn’t in any way similar to natural speed but rather the one that seemed borrowed and was burning hard. The same vessel that she used on Selene — the dark magic — was pointed at my warriors and two of them flew across the room, hitting the wall. Selene yelp

Leo’s POVI found out about the attack from Corvin but the twist was that Vera wasn’t the one who launched the attack. The attack went to meet her rather. It’s morning at Moonbound and I’m sitting in my office, the same one that I started to use recently. Corvin just came in, having just gotten off the call with whatever informant he had in the lycan kingdom.“And I heard something rather thrilling that explained why King Lucian and his people had to attack Vera first.” He said.“What is it?”“Vera used a compulsion spell on Selene and made her attack Lucian.”I peeked up, “Wait, what?”“Yes. She used Selene on Lucian and I heard that if it wasn’t that Selene is already one with Lucian, she might have ended him.”I can’t believe that I almost considered working with Vera. I almost considered conniving with her so I could use the opportunity when she attacks Lucian to get Selene back. I had the whole plan in motion in my head already.Thank goodness I thought about it very well before

Lucian’s POVThe castle knows already, and I was very certain about that. And the moment I stepped out of my chambers, the whispers and gatherings of pack manners at different points met my ears.Everyone thinks that Selene is who they assumed she was from the beginning — an enemy of the kingdom. They assume that she did the attacking of her own free will. So even though I was very busy, I called for an emergency meeting with pack members who’d be free to attend. They came and I said what I had to say immediately. “My mate did not attack me on purpose, she was used as a vessel by a dark magic practitioner with a thirty year obsession to the throne.” I start.“I will not hear otherwise, not from this gathering or the outer ward. The murmurings and whispers about her should stop immediately. She’s feeling guilty enough about it, so no one should make it any worse than it is.” I held the room’s gaze.“It’s the evidence of the length at which the enemy in question is ready to go. What we

Selene’s POVThe last thing I remembered was sitting down and Lucian feeding me food, then the next thing I knew, I was on the ground, and Lucian was bleeding out while I held a bloodied knife.I blinked once, then twice. I proceeded to pinch myself hard bit I wasn’t dreaming. Lucian was still on the ground and was bleeding out, and seven warriors were looking at me like I was some monster.I gasped, my eyes wide with terror. I dropped the blade, and it fell to the ground with a clanging sound. I moved away from Lucian, but he grabbed me before I got out of arm's reach — with that same bloodied arm.“Hey, hey.” He said, and it seemed the more I stared at the bleeding arm, the more I despised myself.“I don’t remember, I don’t know what happened, I swear. I was just… everything was black.” I rushed out the words. He took my second hand and made me look at him even more. “Look at me. Just look into my eyes, then breathe in and out.” He commanded. “You are safe, and I’m fine.”I shook my
