Chapter 8

ผู้เขียน: Peachy
I took the hot coffee and met his curious gaze with a smile.

"Since it's a game, I have to go to places I don't usually visit," I took a sip, my tone light. "Otherwise, it wouldn't be hide-and-seek, would it?"

Killian chuckled and pinched my cheek. "You're so bad. But you're destined to lose to me, baby."

I lowered my eyes, hiding the frost within them.

Of course I couldn't win the first two days.

Because the real show was on the last day.

Day Three.

The day of our five-year anniversary.

The manor was decorated like a dream. Thousands of red roses paved a path from the garden all the way to the master bedroom.

I didn't leave the house.

I locked myself in the study and walked over to the massive stone fireplace.

One piece, two pieces, three pieces...

The blood-stained bandage he wrote his vows on ten years ago, right after taking a knife for me;

The black diamond insignia representing the Donna's absolute power, given to me when he introduced me to the underworld five years ago;

The custom wedding bands engraved with our initials, which he valued more than his life...

I threw ten years of memories, ten years of bonds, into the fire pit without a second thought.

I struck a match and dropped it in.

The flames instantly swallowed the bloody vows and priceless tokens.

I just stood there, watching my pathetic past burn to ash.

In the afternoon, Killian pushed the study door open excitedly.

He wore a perfectly tailored black suit, holding a velvet jewelry box. He radiated the pride of a guaranteed winner.

"It's day three, Aria." He walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "You haven't even stepped out of the manor. Looks like I won this game."

I pushed his hands away, my voice incredibly faint. "The day isn't over. I haven't hidden yet."

Killian paused. Just as he was about to speak, his private phone vibrated.

He took it out and glanced at the screen.

In that split second, his expression changed.

I knew it was Tessa.

Because she had posted a picture of herself in sexy lingerie that morning with the caption: Waiting for you.

This devoted husband—the man who was supposed to be celebrating our fifth anniversary—stared at his screen for a full minute.

Finally, lust conquered reason.

"Baby," he quickly put his phone away, making up a rushed excuse. "A gang war broke out in the South Side. Someone died. I have to go handle it personally."

"Go ahead." I turned around and thoughtfully straightened his tie. "I'll hide well. Come find me."

"Good girl. When I get back, I'll put this gift on you." He kissed my forehead hurriedly, turned around, and strode out of the study.

Watching his eager back, the last trace of warmth in my eyes died forever.

The moment he walked out the front gates...

I left through the manor's secret tunnel, heading straight for the deepest black-market clinic in Chicago.

On the cold operating table, the surgical lights blinded me.

"I'll confirm this one last time," the underground doctor raised his scalpel. "I'm digging this chip out without anesthesia. It's going to be absolute hell. And once I break and rebuild your jaw, you will never look the same."

"Do it."

I closed my eyes.

My phone screen lit up one last time next to the operating table.

A text from Tessa.

[Aria, happy fifth anniversary. But your Don is pinning me down right now. You lose.]

I smiled faintly. I didn't even take a second look.

The scalpel sliced my skin.

Agonizing pain. But I didn't scream.

Because every cut was carving the devil's filthy mark out of my flesh.

At 9:00 PM, I woke up in agony.

My head and face were wrapped in thick bandages. Every slight movement felt like my bones were being crushed.

But I refused the doctor's request to stay overnight.

I forced myself up and grabbed the fake passport I had prepared.

When I walked out of the clinic, Chicago's night wind was biting cold, but I felt freer than I ever had in my life.

I took out the old phone—which hadn't been destroyed yet—and sent Killian one final text.

[You can come find me now.]

After sending it, I got into an untraceable car heading to the international airport.

Half an hour passed. An hour passed.

The phone was dead silent.

I knew he was probably still sweating on top of Tessa, too busy to check my "game" text.

Until I stepped onto the VIP tarmac.

Until the exact moment I was about to board the plane.

The dead phone suddenly went insane. It vibrated violently!

On the screen, Killian's messages flooded in like a waterfall.

At first, they still carried the arrogant smugness of a man satisfied from sex.

[Baby, I handled the business. I'm coming to catch you.]

[You hid pretty far. Why is your signal so weak?]

Then, the tone shifted. There was a trace of confusion.

[Aria? Why isn't your dot moving?]

[Why is your tracker in a dumpster downtown?!]

By the end, the texts descended into absolute shock and pure, unadulterated terror.

[ARIA!! WHAT DID YOU DO?!]

[The signal is gone! This is impossible!! What did you do to the chip?!]

[PICK UP THE PHONE!! ARIA!! PICK UP!!!]

[WHERE ARE YOU?! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU!!!]

[????!!!]

Staring at the desperate, frantic messages practically screaming through the screen, I could picture exactly how terrified and broken the untouchable Don of Chicago was in this exact moment.

Standing on the boarding stairs, looking out at the glittering skyline of Chicago, I smiled lightly.

I pulled the SIM card out of the phone and casually tossed it into a nearby trash can.

Then, I walked into the cabin.

And I never looked back.

Aria's POVFor a whole week, Killian didn't show up.The hurricane passed. Manhattan returned to life.Every day, I got a text from an unknown number. All apologies from him.On the dawn of the eighth day, the final text came.[I will sign. Nyx, come to the underground private chapel in Manhattan one last time. Let me pray for your soul one last time.]If this was the final step for my freedom, I would play along. The underground chapel smelled heavily of gunpowder and old frankincense.Killian was already waiting. He was a walking skeleton, but his eyes held a terrifying, dead calm."Let's get this over with. I'm busy."Killian turned to face the altar at the end of the long aisle.Thud. He dropped heavily onto his knees on the hard stone floor. He didn't stand up. Slowly, agonizingly, he dragged himself forward on his knees, doing his bloody penance. The heavy thuds echoed.Blood quickly seeped through his suit, dragging a horrific red trail across the marble steps. He was already fa

Aria's POVI let go of his soaked tie. Killian slumped against the wall.Disgusted, I pulled out a wet wipe, cleaned the fingers that touched his collar, and threw it at his feet."Get out of my sight." I turned and walked out of the cellar.Night fell.A Category 5 hurricane brought a massive storm. Long Island was completely locked down.Everyone was trapped inside the estate hotel.I walked to the front desk. "Extend my stay." I handed the manager my credit card.Right then, a pale, large hand reached out."Use mine." Killian's voice was terrifyingly hoarse. "Put all of Ms. Nyx's charges on my tab."I shot the manager a deadly glare. "Use my card. Now."Shaking, the manager quickly processed it.I took my card and walked straight to the elevator.Killian's limitless black card was left abandoned on the marble counter.Like a stubborn ghost, Killian followed me all the way to my room. The second I tried to shut the door, he shoved his hand into the frame. The heavy wood slammed into

Aria's POV"I won't sign!" He stared at me, his eyes bleeding red from the fever and obsession. "As long as I don't sign, you are still my wife! Aria, I'll die before I let you go!""Wife?"I dropped my leg. I unzipped my bag and pulled out a cold metal tube.I slammed the micro-recorder right into Killian's chest. The pen bounced off him and hit the stone floor. The button clicked, and it started playing. In the dark, quiet cellar, a perfectly clear, filthy voice echoed."Boss... it's so hard... so deep... cum all inside me, please?"It was Tessa's greedy moans, mixed with the sickening slap of skin against skin.I knew that sound too well. I hid that bug in the sofa of his private office right before I left Chicago.Next on the tape, voices from the hallway outside his office played."Let the Boss blow off some steam," an old Capo scoffed. "That delicate Aria has been barren for five years. Tessa is carrying the future heir. We have to protect her. Don't let the Donna find out."Even

Aria's POVWord on the street was that Killian went into sudden cardiac arrest and hit the ER the night I left. But I didn't care to watch the show. His cheap pity plays didn't make my heart skip a single beat. The next morning, I took my team and drove straight to a private estate in Long Island. That night, I sat alone behind a wooden screen at the outdoor lounge. On the other side, my young assistant was gossiping."Nyx, if your husband betrayed you, what would you do? Would you give him a second chance?"I swirled the ice in my glass, my eyes completely dead. "My ex-husband offered me half an empire to marry him, and he still cheated. Dirty is dirty. A second chance won't wash off his stench."Right then, a massive splash came from the deep end of the pool! Water shot ten feet in the air.I stood up slowly and walked around the screen. In the deep water, Killian was sinking in despair. He was in a thin black dress shirt. The fatal wound on his back was clearly still bleeding, turni

Aria's POVThe bulletproof Maybach tore through the Manhattan night.Half an hour later, it pulled up to a hidden, ultra-luxury penthouse."Get out." He gripped my shoulder and forced me into the private elevator. The second the doors opened, I frowned deeply.Every piece of furniture, every rug, even the custom white tea scent in the air—it was an exact replica of our Chicago bedroom from five years ago.Killian dragged me toward the massive bed. With shaking hands, he pointed to a glass display on the nightstand.Inside were charred, blood-stained scraps of paper. The bloody love letters I had tossed into the fire pit before I left two years ago.He had dug them out of the ashes piece by piece and taped them together. Next to them lay our platinum wedding bands."Aria, look." The ruthless Don had tears bleeding from his eyes.Thud! He dropped hard onto both knees right in front of me!"I brought our home to New York. I found all our memories." He looked up, tears tracking down his ho

Aria's POVAfter getting discharged, Killian started groveling. He booked out New York's top Michelin-starred restaurant, claiming to treat me as a "friend.""Get him a bowl of plain oatmeal. Make everything else Mexican ghost pepper spicy." I tossed the menu down, ignoring the man across from me.His back wound wasn't even healed. The waiter brought out a table full of blood-red, intensely spicy dishes, trembling.I picked up my fork, cut into a dripping red taco, and took a bite without blinking."Aria! Don't eat that!" Killian lunged forward and pinned my wrist down. Pure terror and pain filled his eyes. "Are you crazy? You forgot your stomach condition? Even a drop of chili used to keep you up all night in pain!"His voice was shaking, as if he was the one drinking poison.I coldly shook his hand off."Pain?" I wiped my mouth with a napkin, sneering."I am afraid of pain. But I was more sick of eating your bland Italian food and Wagyu every single day. You think you know me? I was
