Mag-log inEleni's Pov
I was so scared my knees nearly gave way. Handsome had been caught and he’d told them my role in his escape, I panicked. There would be no mercy for me. Calm down, maybe you can talk you way out of this. I thought. “I am really busy right now.” I told the goon, forcing myself to calm down. “He said now!” “Okay, okay. Let’s go.” He led the way to the office. “Are you okay? You looked really pissed, I hope you aren’t still mad at me because I forgot to get you the glass of water.” I said referring to an incident that had happened earlier. “No. Sorry I yelled at you. I’m just pissed because we botched a job and Alexios has been yelling at us.” “What job?” I asked cautiously. “Some guy we were supposed to take care of but the asshole got away, and now Alexios won’t shut up about it. It’s partly his fault for not giving us a head up quick enough.” He said bitterly. I felt my pounding heart slowing down. Handsome had got away. So why was Alexios sending for me? Before I could guess an answer ww were knocking on his door. “Get inside!”He roared. We entered to see him pacing his office, red-faced and wild-eyed with anger. I hoped I won’t be on the receiving end of his anger. I could see some goons standing nervously in a corner. “Where are the others?” Alexios fumed looking at the goon who’d brought me. “Didn't I tell you I want everyone working the bar shift here, you incompetent bastard! Go and bring them now!” The guard ran out while we waited and watched Alexios pacing. The guard came back with the bartender, the manager, and the eight waiters who worked with me. “Which of you traitorous bitches helped that motherfucker escape?” He yelled. “Confess now and you will die quickly. If I have to force it out of you I’ll cause you so much pain you’ll wish you’d never been born!” We all stared at him in fear and confusion. Apart from me, noone else knew what he was talking about. “Don’t play dumb you imbeciles! You know I'm talking about the Italian asshole that came in this evening all dressed in black. He escaped through the broken wine store window and left his clothes behind. He sure as hell didn’t leave naked! And he couldn’t have know about the window! So for the last time, who betrayed me!” We shook our heads, too afraid to speak. “Boss, I barely spoke to the guy except telling him the way to the bathroom, and I didn’t even know the window was broken.” Rich said finally. “Me neither boss.” The rest of us chorused. And that was the truth. They won’t have known about the window. I knew because I had overhead Christos telling Alexios he had broken it accidentally and had asked him to get it fixed. Careless Alexios hadn’t, and he knew he’d be in deep trouble when Christos found out. “He had help! I know it! I want all the lockers of the men searched! See if any clothes are missing. Now!” Again my heart pounded. The waiter whoes clothes I stole would get into trouble if it was discover. Thankfully one of the goons, who didn’t want the stress of searching people’s lockers, spoke up. “Boss all the staff lock their lockers so that can’t be it. I’m thinking this guy may have sensed we were on to him and made a call to someone on the outside to bring him some clothes. He may have been here before, which is how he knew about the window Maybe the person threw the clothes through there.” He explained. It made sense but Alexios was still pissed. He began cursing and the foul words he used shocked and embarrassed me. “He was on to you because you are idiots!" He yelled finally. "Get out! All of you!” We began hurrying out. “Leni! Wrap up whatever you are doing. I want you here by midnight!” He ordered as I headed out. An alarm bell went off in my head. “Yes sir.” I said reluctantly. I went back to work filled with worry. Why did he want to see me? I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be a pleasant meeting. For weeks now he had been making advances to me and I had managed to avoid him, now something told me I would have to confront him tonight. I wished I could run away. For a minute I envied Handsome. He had escaped but I was stuck here. All I wanted was to run far away and never come back. But I couldn’t, no thanks to my parents. I thought bitterly. Other people’s parents protected them, mine had literally sold me into slavery. I remembered the day my life had fallen apart. I had come home that evening with a purse full of money. I had again been contracted to bake at another birthday party and it had been a success. “If I keep this up, I will be able to start my own bakery before the new year.” I smiled. My smile died the minute I stepped foot in my living room. Mom and Dad were there. The despaired look on their faces set my heart racing. “Mom! Dad! Has something happened to Nick?” I asked fearing my little brother was seriously ill again. “No. Worse." Mom said in disgust and anger. "Your hopeless father is in big trouble. He has stolen Makris money and now we are all dead!”Alora walked in. “She is my cousin’s wife and she needs the kitchen.” Alora told Gracia. “But she tried to poison the Don. It’s not safe letting her near food.” Gracia argued. Alora folded her arms and looked her in the face. “I don’t remember anyone asking your opinion on our family issues Gracia,” she said. “Nick gave you an order and it stands. Now get everyone out so Jane can bake. Unless, you want me to tell Nick your orders supercede his.” Gracia shivered a little then turned and began giving orders. Minutes later the kitchen was empty. “Now I’ve helped you deal with the lions, get to work. I’ll see you later.” Alora smiled. “And remember to keep your cake safe. We have a poisoner on the lose.” Eleni stared after her, greatful and slightly amused. Then she got to work. As she made the pastry she didn’t even remember her problems. Baking always helped her relax. When she was done she thought about giving some to the staff as usual, then shook her head. They woul
Mia carefully studied the information she’d gotten from her source. It wasn’t much, but it would help. Now she knew the rat Jane had been picked up from a homeless shelter. Her face darkened. A homeless rat, that was who Nick had dumped her for. He would regret it. She was sure she would find something in Jane’s past that would make Nick regret his decision. Her mother rushed in, startling her.“You will never guess what I just heard.” She said sitting beside Mia.“Jane Harris is dead?” Mia asked hopefully.“Not yet, but from what I heard she soon will be. She tried to poison Marco.”Mia’s eyes widened.“Are you serious mother?”“He is in hospital right now. Helena called me from there. The doctors said the poison was in the cake the little snake gave him.”Mia rolled her eyes. “If he was stupid enough to eat anything she offered him then he deserves to die. This is good news. Did Julia say if Nick is torturing her right now?”“No. That’s the only annoying part. Julia wants her dead i
“Mom please! This isn’t the time to bring your personal dislike out.” Niccolo said, slightly impatient. “This has nothing to do with my dislike. I have evidence. I spoke to Gracia. She said Jane gave your father the cake and also made him a cup of tea. Both were poisoned. And she didn’t call for help till Gracia came in-“ “But she gave CPR that saved his life. Why would she do that if-“ “She didn’t. Gracia did. Jane was just standing there watching your father die, till Gracia walked in and began giving him CPR.” “Is Gracia sure about what she is saying?” “Are you doubting her? Don’t tell me you will take the word of that snake over a trusted servant like Gracia?” “But why would Jane want to kill dad?” “Isn’t it obvious? She was sent to do so, obviously by one of our rivals. And you foolishly brought her into the family.” “Jane isn’t working for anyone. I’ve checked her out –“ “Not well enough.” Julia snapped. “Even if she isn’t working for anyone, she could have tri
“Marco!" Eleni dropped beside him and immediately began giving CPR, while calling for help.Footsteps thundered through the hallway and Gracia rushed in.“Call an ambulance! Quickly!” Eleni screamed.“What happened? What did you do?” Gracia asked frowning at her.“Call an ambulance!” Eleni yelled impatiently.Gracia obeyed. More maids and guards rushed in. Not long after an ambulance arrived and Marco was taken to hospital.A guard ordered everyone out of the living room.Eleni made her way upstairs, still shaken. Gracia appeared in front of her.“What happened to Signore Romano?” She asked, still looking suspicious.“I think he had a heart attack.” Eleni said.“Impossible. He is very healthy and has never shown any sign of such a thing,” her eyes narrowed. “I saw the smashed teacup, he was drinking tea? Did you make it?”“Yes. He was eating the cake and asked for tea-““You gave him cake too? Sweet desserts are perfect for masking bitter flavors.”Eleni felt herself grow cold.“What
At dinner the loss of Golden Palace was all they could talk about.“I don’t believe Davide would go as low as stabbing us in the back.” Julia said, “I thought he was too honorable for that.”“He is a Conti, they are all dishonorable bastards.” Niccolo said through clenched teeth.“I won’t accept this.” Marco fumed.“We can’t start a war over this. It’s too risky.” Julia said.“So we should fold our hands and do nothing?” Marco asked.“Why not let them screw themselves with the restaurant and find another?” Alora asked.“There is no other. That’s why we wanted that one.” Niccolo explained.“Why not make one.” Eleni said quietly. “Open a restaurant, get the chefs from Golden Palace to work for you and turn it into another Golden Palace.” Marco, Niccolo and Alora looked at her with admiration, while Julia frowned.“Quiet! This won’t be happening if it weren’t for you.” Julia snapped.“She has nothing to do with this mother.” Niccolo said firmly.“And her idea is good.” Marco added. Ele
Marco was still smiling as he entered the building. The staff, who had never seen him with anything but a frown, were surprised and worried. Niccolo was surprised too. Was he still smiling from that conversation at breakfast? Did Jane have such an effect on him?“Your smile is scaring the staff.” Niccolo told him as he followed him into his office.“That is their business.”“And me too. Don’t tell me it’s what you and Jane talked about that’s making you smile?”“It is. It brought back memories. I can’t wait to taste her dessert. Having her around may not be so bad after all.”Niccolo hid his surprise, Jane had managed to win over his father. Maybe she would win his mother over too, but if they grew to love her, what would happen after the six month deadline. He’d made a promise and he would keep it, unless he could convince her to renegotiate. He didn’t have much time to think about it. PRESCO's PRO brought bad news.“Sirs, this is the news making rounds this morning.” He said showing
Eleni's Pov Handsome! The man I’d bumper into that night at the bar was standing in front of me. I almost didn’t recognize him. His hair and beard were cut shorter, but his eyes were as dark and penetrating as the first day I looked into them. “Eleni? Is this you?” He asked. I wondered why he
Eleni's Pov But desperation got the better of me. "What is the job?” I demanded impatiently. “like I said easy work. All you have to do is keep your mouth shut, ask no questions, and agree not to use a cellphone.” I frowned. Looking at his scarred face and tattooed arms, I was getting crimin
Eleni’s Pov I sat up startled, breathing heavily, my body covered in sweat. It had been another nightmare, it wasn't real. I sighed in relief. Three weeks later and I was still having the nightmare of killing Alexios. I looked at my watch. Almost 6am, time to get up if I wanted to be on time for
He and Leo had gone to Washington two days before for a business meeting, which had ended a day earlier. “Since we got the job done quickly and have a day more to spend, let’s have a little fun.” Leo suggested as they left the meeting. “No, I want to head back. I can’t wait to tell Dad the goo
