LOGINEleni's Pov
My hand froze in mid air. What did I just hear? I pressed my ear to the door. “I’ve been told he is with the Romano family in New York and is here to spy on us. I want you to question him, then get rid of him.” Alexios told his men. I almost gasped at the word question. I knew it was a code for brutal torture. “The Romano’s are very powerful boss, won’t they raise hell if we knock off one of their own?” The goon asked. I could hear the worry in his voice. “They don’t know he is here. According to my source he is solo, hoping to get into his bosses good books by getting info on us. Don’t worry knocking the bastard off won’t raise any questions.” “Okay boss, do you want us to take him now?” “No. It will cause a scene and Christos won’t like that. We will take him outside. I want a few men inside watching him, then some posted outside the front and back door, he can’t leave any other way. Once he steps out, grab him and take him to the warehouse. Question him there.” I had heard the whole plan and I was going to do something to ruin it. First, I had to warn Handsome. I tried to control my trembling as I knocked on the door. “Come in.” Alexios barked. “Good evening Mr. Makris. Here is your drink.” I said putting it on his table. Two goons and his bodyguard stood in a corner, looking at me hungrily. “Leni.” Alexios leered at me, showing his yellow teeth. “Where were you hiding? I didn’t see you when I came in.” “I was probably with a customer.” I lied and turned to go. “Wait up. I want to you to stay for a while.” He said. “I can’t. I’m working.” I said quickly. “Let someone else take over. Sit down.” He commanded. No! How can I warn Handsome? I thought. “Give me a minute please. I have Glykos' table, he will raise hell if someone else starts serving him.” I said thinking on my feet. It worked. He sighed in annoyance and nodded. I left and hurried to the bar. My heart was racing with anxiety. I had to warn Handsome and help him escape, although I knew if I was caught I would be in big trouble. I had no idea why I was willing to risk my safety to help a total stranger, but I was going to do it. As I entered the bar I saw Handsome with his phone to his ear, and a deep frown on his face. Then he made to stand up. I hurried over to him. “More wine?” I said forcing a smile incase the goons were watching. “No. Thanks. It's time I went home.” “Your life is in danger.” I said between my teeth. “There are men outside waiting to grab you the minute you step out to here.” He frowned at me as if I was crazy. “They know you are a Romano.” I continued quickly, "and that your family don't know you are here. They are going to kill you.” At the mention of ‘your family dosen't know you are here" his eyes widened in surprise. “How do you know all this?” He whispered. “Never mind. I have to come up with a plan to help you escape. Until I do, just sit here and keep calm. They don’t want a scene so they won’t touch you here.” I assured him. “Who is they?” He asked confused. “Alexios Makris and his goons. Hold on.” I left him and went to the bar to get him another bottle of wine. “Use this as an excuse to stay longer, until I think of something.” I said. He nodded slightly. I could tell he was bursting with questions, but was smart enough to know now wasn’t the time to ask them. I went back to my job, while thinking of an escape plan. I had to act fast. Handsome couldn’t stay here all night. Finally, I had a plan. But for it to work I had to do a couple of things. First I made sure the door to the wine store was unlocked, then I raided the locker of one of the waiters who I knew never locked it. I felt guilty as a stole his jacket and face cap, but eased my conscience by telling myself it was for the best. When everything was ready I walked over to Handsome with another bottle of wine. The second bottle I’d given him was nearly empty. “I have a plan." I whispered quickly. “Listen carefully. Get up and pretend you are going to the bathroom. Two doors down you will see a door leading to the wine store. It’s unlocked. One of the windows in the store has a broken lock. Leave through it. It leads to the side of the building and directly into the street, so the goons won’t see you. I’ve left a jacket and face cap in the store, ditch your clothes and change into them first.” He nodded slightly. “Thank you-“ He glanced at my name tag, “Eleni. I have a lot of questions but now isn’t the time. Only tell me this, why are you helping me?” I forced myself to meet his steady gaze. “I like you.” I said before I could stop myself. He looked a little startled. "Come with me. You won't be safe here." He told me. "I can't they own me." I said sadly. "What? How?" "It dosen't matter. You need to go." I said quickly. He sighed softly and stood up. I saw some of the goons hanging around, tense. “I'm going to the bathroom. Have the snacks I asked for on the table when I get back.” He said aloud. I held my breath as he went to speak to the bartender, then walked towards the bathroom. I went back to work, still holding my breath. I couldn’t relax till I was sure he had gotten away. Then after nearly thirty minutes the goons began to notice he hadn’tcome back. I saw them whisper to each other then rush to the direction of the bathroom. Then an hour later they came back to the bar, looking scared, humiliated, and angry. I exhaled deeply. The escape had been a success. But before I could congratulate myself, a goon walked up to me, eyes blazing “The boss wants to see you now Eleni!” He fumedAlora walked in. “She is my cousin’s wife and she needs the kitchen.” Alora told Gracia. “But she tried to poison the Don. It’s not safe letting her near food.” Gracia argued. Alora folded her arms and looked her in the face. “I don’t remember anyone asking your opinion on our family issues Gracia,” she said. “Nick gave you an order and it stands. Now get everyone out so Jane can bake. Unless, you want me to tell Nick your orders supercede his.” Gracia shivered a little then turned and began giving orders. Minutes later the kitchen was empty. “Now I’ve helped you deal with the lions, get to work. I’ll see you later.” Alora smiled. “And remember to keep your cake safe. We have a poisoner on the lose.” Eleni stared after her, greatful and slightly amused. Then she got to work. As she made the pastry she didn’t even remember her problems. Baking always helped her relax. When she was done she thought about giving some to the staff as usual, then shook her head. They woul
Mia carefully studied the information she’d gotten from her source. It wasn’t much, but it would help. Now she knew the rat Jane had been picked up from a homeless shelter. Her face darkened. A homeless rat, that was who Nick had dumped her for. He would regret it. She was sure she would find something in Jane’s past that would make Nick regret his decision. Her mother rushed in, startling her.“You will never guess what I just heard.” She said sitting beside Mia.“Jane Harris is dead?” Mia asked hopefully.“Not yet, but from what I heard she soon will be. She tried to poison Marco.”Mia’s eyes widened.“Are you serious mother?”“He is in hospital right now. Helena called me from there. The doctors said the poison was in the cake the little snake gave him.”Mia rolled her eyes. “If he was stupid enough to eat anything she offered him then he deserves to die. This is good news. Did Julia say if Nick is torturing her right now?”“No. That’s the only annoying part. Julia wants her dead i
“Mom please! This isn’t the time to bring your personal dislike out.” Niccolo said, slightly impatient. “This has nothing to do with my dislike. I have evidence. I spoke to Gracia. She said Jane gave your father the cake and also made him a cup of tea. Both were poisoned. And she didn’t call for help till Gracia came in-“ “But she gave CPR that saved his life. Why would she do that if-“ “She didn’t. Gracia did. Jane was just standing there watching your father die, till Gracia walked in and began giving him CPR.” “Is Gracia sure about what she is saying?” “Are you doubting her? Don’t tell me you will take the word of that snake over a trusted servant like Gracia?” “But why would Jane want to kill dad?” “Isn’t it obvious? She was sent to do so, obviously by one of our rivals. And you foolishly brought her into the family.” “Jane isn’t working for anyone. I’ve checked her out –“ “Not well enough.” Julia snapped. “Even if she isn’t working for anyone, she could have tri
“Marco!" Eleni dropped beside him and immediately began giving CPR, while calling for help.Footsteps thundered through the hallway and Gracia rushed in.“Call an ambulance! Quickly!” Eleni screamed.“What happened? What did you do?” Gracia asked frowning at her.“Call an ambulance!” Eleni yelled impatiently.Gracia obeyed. More maids and guards rushed in. Not long after an ambulance arrived and Marco was taken to hospital.A guard ordered everyone out of the living room.Eleni made her way upstairs, still shaken. Gracia appeared in front of her.“What happened to Signore Romano?” She asked, still looking suspicious.“I think he had a heart attack.” Eleni said.“Impossible. He is very healthy and has never shown any sign of such a thing,” her eyes narrowed. “I saw the smashed teacup, he was drinking tea? Did you make it?”“Yes. He was eating the cake and asked for tea-““You gave him cake too? Sweet desserts are perfect for masking bitter flavors.”Eleni felt herself grow cold.“What
At dinner the loss of Golden Palace was all they could talk about.“I don’t believe Davide would go as low as stabbing us in the back.” Julia said, “I thought he was too honorable for that.”“He is a Conti, they are all dishonorable bastards.” Niccolo said through clenched teeth.“I won’t accept this.” Marco fumed.“We can’t start a war over this. It’s too risky.” Julia said.“So we should fold our hands and do nothing?” Marco asked.“Why not let them screw themselves with the restaurant and find another?” Alora asked.“There is no other. That’s why we wanted that one.” Niccolo explained.“Why not make one.” Eleni said quietly. “Open a restaurant, get the chefs from Golden Palace to work for you and turn it into another Golden Palace.” Marco, Niccolo and Alora looked at her with admiration, while Julia frowned.“Quiet! This won’t be happening if it weren’t for you.” Julia snapped.“She has nothing to do with this mother.” Niccolo said firmly.“And her idea is good.” Marco added. Ele
Marco was still smiling as he entered the building. The staff, who had never seen him with anything but a frown, were surprised and worried. Niccolo was surprised too. Was he still smiling from that conversation at breakfast? Did Jane have such an effect on him?“Your smile is scaring the staff.” Niccolo told him as he followed him into his office.“That is their business.”“And me too. Don’t tell me it’s what you and Jane talked about that’s making you smile?”“It is. It brought back memories. I can’t wait to taste her dessert. Having her around may not be so bad after all.”Niccolo hid his surprise, Jane had managed to win over his father. Maybe she would win his mother over too, but if they grew to love her, what would happen after the six month deadline. He’d made a promise and he would keep it, unless he could convince her to renegotiate. He didn’t have much time to think about it. PRESCO's PRO brought bad news.“Sirs, this is the news making rounds this morning.” He said showing

Eleni's Pov So? What If he is getting married, why does it bother you? I asked myself. “He is marrying Mia Conti.” Alora continued. I saw her eyes darken briefly. "Her family and ours are friends." “I am sure it will be a big event.” I said trying to smile. She rolled her eyes. To hide my

Niccolo was really confused as he drove to work that morning. He could have sworn that this girl was Eleni. But her resume had said her name was Jane Harris. Although she was much slimmer and her hair was longer, but her eyes and voice were the same. Even the feel of her soft skin when he had bumpe
