The tray felt heavier than it should, not because of the food. The weight was due to the questions that silently followed me as I climbed the stairs. I ignored them.
Bella hadn’t eaten.
The doctor had already warned her not to skip meals. That was the only reason I was doing this. Nothing else. When I reached her door, I knocked once.
No answer.
I knocked again.
Bella.
A few seconds later, the door opened.
She looked surprised to see me.
Then her eyes fell to the tray in my hands.
For a brief moment I couldn’t read her expression.
Alpha?
You didn’t eat.
Her fingers tightened around the edge of the door.
I told the servant I wasn’t hungry.
I know.
Neither of us spoke.
Finally, I held the tray toward her.
Take it.
She didn’t move.
I’ll eat later.
You’ll eat now.
Her eyes slowly lifted to mine.
There was no anger in them.
No hope.
Only quiet exhaustion.
I’m really not hungry.
The doctor said skipping meals isn’t good for the baby. The words left my mouth before I realised how they sounded. For the baby. Not for her.
Bella looked at the tray again. Then she accepted it with both hands.
Thank you.
Her voice was calm.
Almost too calm.
I waited.
I wasn’t sure of what I was waiting for.
Maybe for her to smile. Maybe she should argue. Instead, she simply stepped back.
I won’t let the baby go hungry.
The sentence hit me harder than it should have.
No, I won’t go hungry.
The baby.
She was reminding both of us why this marriage existed.
Good.
It was all I managed to say.
She nodded politely.
Good night, Alpha.
Before I could respond She gently closed the door. I remained standing in the hallway for several seconds. Then I turned and walked away.
Bella
The room fell silent after Harry left. I placed the tray on the table and stared at it. A small smile tugged at my lips. Not because I believed Harry cared. Because he had been honest. He wasn’t worried about me. He was worried about the child.
Strangely, that hurt less than false hope ever could. I sat down and slowly began eating. For you, I whispered, resting one hand over my stomach. Only for you.
Outside the window, the night stretched endlessly. Tomorrow would be another day. Another meal. Another polite conversation. Another reminder that my husband belonged to someone else.
I had accepted that.
Or at least I was trying to.
The following morning Bella left her room earlier than usual. She hoped to finish checking the kitchen inventory before breakfast. As she reached the bottom of the staircase, she stopped.
Brianna was already there, standing in the dining room.
Smiling.
As though she had spent the night in the Alpha House.
And the moment their eyes met
Brianna took a step toward her.
Good morning, Bella.
BellaGood morning, Bella.Brianna’s smile was warm.Too warm.Bella returned the greeting with a polite nod.Good morning. For a brief moment, neither woman spoke. The silence between them wasn’t awkward. It was careful. Measured.Brianna was the first to break it.I hope I didn’t surprise you.A little.I arrived yesterday evening.”I know.Bella’s answer was calm. She didn’t ask why Brianna had come. She already knew.Brianna studied her for a moment before smiling again.I wanted to congratulate you.Bella looked at her.Congratulations on your marriage. The words sounded sincere.Yet Bella couldn’t ignore the strange feeling settling in her chest.Thank you.I suppose becoming Luna comes with many responsibilities. It does. And you’re adjusting well?I’m trying.Brianna laughed softly.I’m sure you are. Before Bella could reply, footsteps echoed behind them.Harry entered the dining room. His gaze landed on Bella first. Then on Brianna. You’re both awake early.Brianna walked ove

BellaMy fingers tightened around the edge of the bedroom door.Miss Brianna has arrived. The servant's words lingered in my ears long after he had left. I looked down at the dinner tray resting on the small table beside my bed. The food had already gone cold. Slowly, I pushed it aside. For a moment, I considered locking my door and pretending none of it mattered. But this was my home now. Running away to my room every time Brianna visited wasn't a solution. Taking a deep breath, I opened the door and stepped into the hallway. The Alpha House was unusually lively tonight.Servants moved quietly through the corridors, carrying refreshments toward the sitting room.As I descended the stairs, Brianna's cheerful laughter echoed through the house. She sounded comfortable. As though she belonged here.Bella lowered her gaze and continued toward the kitchen. She wasn't interested in interrupting them. She only wanted a cup of warm tea before returning to her room.Unfortunately fate seemed t
HarryThe ledgers Bella had given me remained on my desk. I told myself I would look through them later. Instead, I found myself opening the first one before the afternoon meeting. Every page was neatly arranged. Every correction was clearly marked. Nothing had been overlooked. I flipped through another ledger. Then another. When I reached the last page, I realised something. She hadn't made a single mistake.A quiet knock sounded on the door.Come in.Lucas stepped inside carrying a stack of documents. The Council sent these over.I nodded and took them from him.As he turned to leave, his eyes fell on the ledgers spread across my desk.Lady Bella organised those?Yes.He smiled slightly. The servants have been talking about it all morning.I looked up.They have? They said the Alpha House hasn't been this organised in months.I closed the ledger. They're exaggerating.Maybe.Lucas shrugged. But she's trying. After he left, the room fell silent again.Trying.The word echoed in my mi
BellaLiving in the Alpha House was lonelier than I had imagined. The servants were respectful but careful. They addressed me as "Lady Bella" or "Luna", yet I could still see the hesitation in their eyes. To them, I wasn't the Luna they had expected. I was simply the woman who happened to be carrying the Alpha's child. Nothing more. After breakfast, I made my way downstairs with a notebook tucked beneath my arm. The housekeeper greeted me with a polite smile.Good morning, Lady Bella.Good morning.I've prepared the household accounts you requested.Thank you.She placed several ledgers on the table. They haven't been updated in weeks.I opened the first book, scanning through the entries. Several figures didn't match. Food supplies had been ordered twice in the same week. Medicine stock had been recorded incorrectly. A few expenses weren't listed at all.Bella frowned.Who handled these before? The former Luna. And after she passed? The older woman hesitated. No one, my Lady.Bella n
HarryThe next morning passed quietly.Exactly how I preferred it.I had barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, flashes of yesterday forced their way into my mind.Bella's lips. Her voice. The way she had whispered my name.I rubbed a hand over my face, annoyed with myself. It meant nothing. The bond had acted on instinct. That was all.Nothing more.A knock interrupted my thoughts."Come in."One of the servants entered and bowed respectfully."My Lord, breakfast is ready."I nodded.I'll be there. The servant hesitated. My Lord"What is it?""Lady Bella asked if she could have her breakfast in her room."I frowned.Did she say why?No, Alpha. For a moment, I considered refusing. Then I remembered the rules. Separate lives. Minimal interaction. They were my rules.Let her.Yes, Alpha. The servant bowed again before leaving.I remained seated for another minute. Why had she asked? She had never avoided me before.No.That wasn't true. She wasn't avoiding me.She was respecting the
