RONAN’S POV

Silence welcomed me as I stepped into the living room of my mansion.

It was late and I was sure everyone was asleep already. However, the lights in the living room were still on.

My eyes trailed over the room.

Each passing day made the house feel less like mine.

Three dolls on the dining table, a red crayon on the floor, and then a story book on top of one of the couches.

It no longer looked like the place I’d once known.

Somehow… it had become softer.

Warmer.

Hell, it felt like

OPHELIA “I love you so much, Alia. You’re the prettiest, smartest, and bravest child in the whole world,” I said, planting kisses on her face. “Really?” “Really.”She let out that giggle that I was sure made everyone’s heart flutter. Afterward, she suddenly paused halfway and began to sniff herself.“What’s wrong?”She looked up at me again. “Alia’s stinks.”I couldn’t help the smile that lengthened my lips. A few minutes ago, I never thought that I would smile again.“You don’t stink. Your dress is just dirty.”“I don’t like it.”Before I could reply, Nova swept to our side and bent her knees so that she was head to head with the child.“Auntie Nova,” she called as if she was only just realizing that Nova was in the room. “Come on, Alia. I’ll get you a change of clothes. You should also let your Mama rest.”“Is Mommy sick?”I quickly replied. “It’s just a headache. Once I sleep, it will be gone.”Reluctantly, she whispered. “I’ll let Mama sleep then.” She let Nova carry her and

OPHELIAMy eyes slowly fluttered open to stare at the white ceiling above my head. I blinked once. And then twice.Where was I? How did I get here? When the smell of antiseptic hit me, I managed to turn my head to look around me. My eyes fell on Nova who lay on the couch on the other side.As if she heard me wake up, she slowly stirred awake and her gaze widened as it fell on me.“Ophelia,” she called, swiftly sitting up on the couch. “You’re awake.” Nova swept to my side and sat on the tiny spot beside me on the bed. The back of her palm touched my forehead and neck, checking my temperature.“Are you okay? How do you feel?”I shook my head. “What happened? Why am I here?” “Yo-you fainted.”“Huh?”It was only then that it hit me.Alia.Alia was missing. The memories flashed into my head and with the help of Nova, I managed to sit up on the bed.God, my head was pounding.“Be careful,” she said. “The doctor said you must be careful so that your heart condition doesn’t resurface.”“Wh

  • Once His Pawn, Now His Brother’s Obsession— Too Late, Ex!   Blood Pressure

OPHELIA’S POV“You must rest for the meantime. Your blood pressure is very high,” the young female doctor announced. She unwrapped the blood pressure machine from my arms and passed it to the nurse behind her. “I highly suggest you calm down and take a nap. For the sake of your heart condition too.”Nova came to sit beside me on the hospital bed and closed a hand around my arm. “Thank you, doctor. I’ll make sure that she rests for a few hours.”After I’d come out of the Whitmore mansion, I’d immediately called Nova. When she arrived, I told her all that happened, and seeing how I looked, she’d forced me to the hospital.I held my face in my hands and let out a shaky breath. Up until now, there hasn't been any news from Ronan. If Julius had taken Alia, he wouldn’t lie. Does that mean it was truly child traffickers? I let the tears I’d been holding stream down my cheeks finally. “These things always happen to me. First three years ago and now this. Do I not deserve to be a mother?” I

  • Once His Pawn, Now His Brother’s Obsession— Too Late, Ex!   To The Airport

RONANA few minutes ago when I’d been informed that the child was missing, truly, I’d felt the world tilt beneath my feet. The cute face of the child and her sly look whenever she called me ‘bad uncle’ had flashed into my head. Although I hadn’t known her for long, I’d grown accustomed to her and somehow, I realized that she’d become a part of my life.A wave of dread washed into me as that familiar mocking voice whispered into my ears. ‘See? You’ll never have a family.’Then another. ‘It will always end the same way.’Shaking my head as if to get rid of the thoughts, I grabbed Gerald and slammed him against the door of my car.”“You had just one fucking job.” My fingers closed tightly around his neck. “Just one. The fuck were you?”He started to cough but I didn’t release my grip on his neck.“It’s my fault. Forgive me,” he admitted.“Of course it is. I trusted you with them.” Letting go of his throat, my chest rose and fell violently. “You better pray that we find her. Otherwise, I

OPHELIA“She’s been taken.”For a heartbeat, I forgot how to breathe. Ronan caught me in his arms before my knees gave out. I held his shirt tightly as my vision began to blur.“Ophelia,” he called, steadying me. Holding both my arms, he forced me to look at him. “Listen, we’ll find her,” he assured. But I shook my head, still in denial.I couldn’t lose her again. Three years ago, I’d lost her. I had taken the pain of mourning her. I couldn’t do it again. I’d only just found my child.I couldn’t lose her again.God, it was my fault.I continued shaking my head, my eyes staring into space. “It is my fault. I couldn't even watch a three-year-old properly. We were buying ice cream at the ice cream stand and-and when I turned, she was gone. I should’ve been more careful…”“It’s not your fault.”I clawed at his arm. “Who took her? Did you see the person?”“He was masked. It’s definitely someone who’s been watching us for a while. But I promise you, I’ll find her. I’ll bring your child b

OPHELIA“The other kids are refusing to play with me.”Alia grumbled for the second time. We were at the children’s park. She pouted her lips as she stared at the other children who played around. Then she turned, looked at the housekeepers, and then at the guards. “It’s because of Uncle Gerald and his friends,” she cried.“Alia, they’re here to protect us,” I tried to convince her. She dramatically folded her hands on her chest. “I also want to go on the merry-go-round. Everyone’s scared to play with me because of Uncle Gerald.”I sighed. Honestly, I could see it too. Whenever a kid tried to approach Alia and found the guards behind her, they would immediately turn and run the other way.She wasn’t enjoying our first visit to the park together.“Fine. We’ll send them away.”Her eyes lit up. I turned to Gerald. “This place naturally has security that’s why I chose it. I think it’s better if you all wait outside the park.”“It’s dangerous, Miss Ophelia.”“It’s just kids and their pa

OPHELIA I stepped away from Julius and looked around our living room. Almost everything was different. Instead of grey, the couches were now white. OPHELIA Ronan’s brow lifted even further. He said nothing. For a minute, his brown eyes fixed on me as if trying to read my thoughts. I shifted uncomfortably. For some reason, this man unsettled me. Unlike his brother's golden retriever look of brown hair and blue eyes, he was like a dark monster
