Chapter 9

Auteur: Carrot
Three months later, I sat in the sunroom of the Sartori estate, enjoying afternoon tea.

Mamma sat across from me, reading through a stack of documents. "Anna, Guglielmo's hanging on by a thread. Do you want us to keep him alive?"

"No," I said flatly. "Throw him into the sea. Put him out of his misery."

"And Rosa?"

"Leave her where she is," I said, smirking. "I heard the doctors there are very fond of her. They make sure she gets… special attention every day."

Three months later, I sat in the sunroom of the Sartori estate, enjoying afternoon tea.Mamma sat across from me, reading through a stack of documents. "Anna, Guglielmo's hanging on by a thread. Do you want us to keep him alive?""No," I said flatly. "Throw him into the sea. Put him out of his misery.""And Rosa?""Leave her where she is," I said, smirking. "I heard the doctors there are very fond of her. They make sure she gets… special attention every day."Mamma walked over with a tray of pastries and set it beside me. "Recently, we've been negotiating new shipping routes. Would you like to take a look?"I shook my head. "Not yet. I don't want to stay in Sicaro for now—too many unpleasant memories. I'd like to travel instead.""Any places in mind?"I looked out the window at the warm afternoon sun. For some reason, I remembered what Guglielmo had once promised me."Probably Barnalulu.""Then you'd better leave soon," Mamma said. "We need someone to oversee our family's rou

Inside the beachside villa, Guglielmo had Rosa in her arms. She buried her face against his chest, sobbing. "Don, you have no idea how terrifying they are. I was so scared… The Sartori family will never let us go!""Don't be afraid," he coaxed her, rubbing her back, his eyes as venomous as a scorpion's."Anna's hopelessly in love with me. She bought every single word I said. Now, if I tell her to do something, she'll do it without hesitation. The mighty Sartori family isn't all that impressive after all."She looked up at him. "Really? Can our plan continue, then?"He smirked. "Of course. Anna is too big of an idiot—and she's supposed to be Sartori. The name is wasted on her. Anyway, once Marco has everything in place, we'll strike from both sides."With his help on the inside, the entire Sartori family will soon belong to us.""What about her family?""They'll be dead," Guglielmo said without hesitation, his eyes vicious. "Once this is over, our family will be the strongest out

When Mamma heard that I wanted to marry Guglielmo, she immediately pulled out her pistol and started toward him. I caught her by the arm.She turned to me, her gaze frigid. "Have you forgotten how he betrayed you? You're going to trust him again?""I haven't," I answered calmly. "And I don't trust him either. I just don't think dying this easily is enough for him. Believe me. I have my own plan. This time, I'm going to take my revenge myself."From that day on, I visited Guglielmo every single day. We reminisced about the happy memories we once shared. I brought him gifts and even cooked for him. What he didn't know was that every meal contained the same truth serum Papa used whenever he interrogated traitors. He never suspected a thing, though.Instead, he was deeply moved and swore he would spend the rest of his life making it up to me. "Anna, when I'm recovered, we'll go to Barnalulu together."He held my hand tightly. "I just want to be with you and be your husband forever."

Three days later, the Muratori family was hit with a scandal that shook the entire underworld. The media reported that Guglielmo had overdosed on drugs and was fighting for his life in the hospital. Of course, that was only the story fed to the public. In reality, he had been secretly transferred to a private estate owned by my family in Sicaro. He lay on the bed, his face as pale as a sheet, so weak that he could barely eat on his own. The once-proud Don who had commanded an entire family now had to depend on others, even for the simplest things.Needless to say, every doctor and nurse there belonged to the Sartori family.Papa spared no expense. He gave me the best medicine and brought in the best doctors available. My recovery was astonishingly fast. By the fifth day, I was able to walk normally again. When Guglielmo saw me, his voice was hoarse as he called my name. "Anna, I'm sorry… I swear I didn't know… Rosa fooled me. If I'd known she was that kind of person, I never woul

The Sartori family soon took over the hospital. I was rushed into emergency surgery. The person lying on the operating table was no longer me. It was Guglielmo, who struggled violently as he screamed, "I'm the Don of the Muratori family! If you touch me, my family will never let you get away with this!"Papa casually flipped the lighter in his hand, a cold laugh escaping his lips. "The Muratori family? If a mere family like yours could threaten me, doesn't that mean all those years of my hard work have been in vain?"Suddenly, Guglielmo's phone rang. I picked it up and put the call on speaker."Don Muratori, bad news! The butler jumped into the sea. Before he died, he left behind all the evidence of our money laundering and smuggling operations over the years!"For the first time, genuine fear gripped Guglielmo whole. He looked at my family as though they were monsters. "You're declaring war on the entire Muratori family!"Papa simply smiled with contempt. "That's almost disappoi

No one dared to speak. The silence stretched across the operating room until Rosa was the first to crack. Just as she always did, she slipped her arm around Guglielmo's and pouted."Don, these people barged in here and openly disrespected you. Why aren't you throwing them out?"In the past, Guglielmo had always indulged her. This time, he said nothing.Papa raised his pistol and aimed it directly at Rosa's head. At the last second, he shifted the muzzle slightly and pulled the trigger. The bullet tore past her ear.She screamed in terror and hid behind Guglielmo, her voice shaking as she asked, "Who sent you people? Do you even know who our Don is?"Guglielmo's expression darkened as he took in the scene before him. His gaze swept over the shattered operating room doors, then the dozens of assault rifles pointed at everyone inside.Mamma stepped into the room. The sharp clicks of her high heels echoed crisply across the tile floor."How careless of my daughter, Anna, not to intr
