Sora

The elevator dings open before a witty retort or better yet an objection can leave my mouth and just like that the moment shatters.

Miraculously, bubbly Kade is back, looking entirely too pleased with himself for a man who just confessed to wanting me.

“Welcome to my home, Shadow,” he says as he sweeps an exaggerated arm toward the hallway beyond the elevator. “Kind of sorry it’s empty right now, as you know I just got back into town.”

“So we are just going to pretend the elevator didn’t happen?” I ask, watching him carefully.

“Leave the things that happen in the elevator in the elevator,” he replies easily like it means absolutely nothing before disappearing through the door beside the hallway.

I linger there for a moment caught between following him and standing around uselessly before he returns with two glasses of orange juice. He hands one to me and I eye it warily.

“Don’t worry, it’s not drugged,” he says and to prove it he takes a sip from both glasses, lifting his chin slightly. “See.”

I roll my eyes so hard it feels like I might see my sockets but I still take the glass from his right hand.

“Don’t change the subject,” I say pointing it at him. “What was all that nonsense in the elevator?”

“Sora,” he starts exhaling like I am already exhausting him. “Not everything has to have an explanation. Why are you being difficult?”

I set the glass down as something sharp and unfamiliar buzzes under my skin because how am I being difficult? He was the one who begged me to be his fake girlfriend and barely two hours into this arrangement he is suddenly confessing things like he actually means them and somehow I am the problem.

A laugh slips out of me before I can stop it because this fucking bastard, it really is a thing with the Blacks, being unbelievably dense.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me, Kade Black, you’ve got to—”

I cut myself off when I notice him pulling his shirt off, revealing blacked out tattoos across his chest and just as I expected full sleeves inked down his right arm. His body is lean and defined in a way that becomes impossible to ignore once he is no longer fully dressed and for a second my brain completely forgets what it was doing.

Suddenly my throat is drier than the Sahara and another part of my body seems to be an oasis.

I grab the glass again and take a large gulp but nearly choke the moment he stretches, the movement pulling attention to his frame in a way that is unfairly distracting especially that V line that should honestly be illegal.

Juice goes down the wrong way and I cough violently spilling it from my mouth and nose onto my shirt.

When I finally manage to breathe again I look up just in time to see Kade turning toward me.

“You need to get changed,” he says calmly.

I glare at him through the sting still lingering in my nose wiping at my shirt like it will somehow undo the fact that I just nearly died over orange juice in front of him.

“I’m fine,” I snap though the cough still scratches my throat. “It’s just juice.”

He doesn’t look convinced, he just tilts his head slightly eyes flicking over me like he is assessing damage he didn’t intend to cause but also isn’t particularly sorry about.

“Come on,” he says already turning away.

I hesitate for half a second before following him because I really do not want to stand here dripping and pathetic while he walks around looking annoyingly composed.

He leads me down a short corridor and opens a door stepping aside so I can walk in first.

It’s a barely decorated but properly arranged bedroom and he walks straight to a drawer pulls it open and throws something at me without looking.

I catch the fabric he’s thrown at me and when I open it I see a Batman logo in the middle.

I’m actually impressed that he had time to do a bit of organizing in such a short period of time and it strikes me that he doesn’t really feel like the type who should own something like this.

“Bathroom’s there,” he says nodding toward an attached door. “Change.”

I stare at him. “Used to think guys cherished their clothes yet here you are giving a random girl yours.”

His mouth twitches like he almost smiles but decides against it.

“You’re not random,” he says simply.

Before I can respond he turns slightly away like he hasn’t been dropping bombshells all evening and I hate that it leaves something hanging in my chest.

I head into the bathroom because nothing a fresh set of clothes and water can’t fix.

It takes longer than it should, partly because it slowly dawns on me how wrong today has been. I just wanted to protect my best friend, so how did that turn into this.

I haven’t even checked my phone and God, the school headlines will be fucking chewing me out by now. I can already see it in my head, “Jealous Best Friend Almost Jeopardizes Engagement.”

This feels sadly like high school all over again.

I look at my reflection in the mirror and nearly jump, my face a mess of mascara streaks and redness from crying I didn’t even realize I was still doing properly. I wash it off and breathe out slowly, forcing myself not to think about tomorrow.

No more thinking about tomorrow.

When I step back out, I am pretending I am okay.

Kade is sitting on the edge of the bed now, elbows resting on his knees, head lifting the moment I appear. His eyes move over me slowly and pause on my legs, and I immediately want to cover up but there is nothing available.

I shift under his gaze. “Can you not?”

He stands and crosses the space between us without hesitation, not fast enough to feel rushed but not slow enough to feel accidental either.

My back hits the edge of the bed before I properly register how close he is.

His hands settle on my waist, gaze dropping to my lips for half a second then shifting to my face then back to my lips.

“Fuck, Sora.”

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    My Official Girlfriend

Sora I toss and turn, trying to shy away from the blinding light burning through my eyes, but it's futile. A groan slips past my lips as I burrow deeper into the hospital pillow, every muscle in my body protesting the movement. Ow. Who knew making out could count as cardio? ...Actually, scratch that. I know exactly why I'm sore. Heat rushes to my cheeks as flashes of last night threaten to replay in vivid detail. I squeeze my eyes shut and shove my face into the pillow. Absolutely not. I am not reliving that before breakfast. The steady beeping of the heart monitor drags me back to reality, followed by the faint scent of antiseptic reminding me I'm still very much in a hospital room. God, it's like Kade has embedded himself into my veins. I've never been brave enough to take control in bed before, yet somehow it came so naturally with him, like my body already knew what to do. And I came so hard from it too. Five fucking times. How am I supposed to face him today? It's not

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    I Own You

Kade I lift Sora off me and lay her back down on the bed, quiet and careful. As much fun as it is leaving the door unlocked, the last thing I want is someone walking in on what I’m about to do to her. I’m going to fuck her so hard she forgets her own name. “Where are you going?” she breathes out, lips pink and swollen from our kisses. I flash her a slow smile before crossing the room and clicking the lock. The soft sound echoes in the quiet hospital room. “Nowhere, shadow.” I lean back against the door, drinking her in. Her chest rises and falls rapidly under that flimsy gown. I can’t decide if I want her completely naked or just like this—something about the way the fabric clings to her makes my cock ache. “What?” she snaps, but there’s heat in it. She pushes up on all fours and crawls toward the foot of the bed like a predator. I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand, licking my lips. “Lie back down and spread your legs for me.” She pauses, eyes narrowing, but then

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    Sex Doll

Kade I can never get tired of kissing Sora. She tastes like an oasis—fucking pure, sweet enough to drown in. Every slide of her tongue quenches the worst of my thirst, but it only leaves me starving for the rest of her. She pulls back first, chest heaving under the thin hospital gown, lips swollen and glistening. “You keep kissing me like a starving man.” A low chuckle rumbles out of me as I chase her mouth, nipping at that plump lower lip. “Because I am.” My hand stays braced beside her head on the pillow while the other slides down her side, fingers tracing the edge of the flimsy blue gown. The hospital gown does nothing to hide how hard her nipples are already. I tug her closer on the narrow bed, the metal rails cool against my arm. “You have no idea what you do to me, baby. One taste and I’m gone.” Her breath catches when I duck my head and drag my mouth along the line of her throat, sucking lightly at the pulse fluttering there. The room is quiet except for the sof

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    Your Book Boyfriend

Sora "It's nothing." Cam glances down at me before continuing, "Her heart rate was going crazy and I wanted to make sure she was okay." The lie slips from him so effortlessly that it catches me off guard. I've known Cameron for practically my entire life and until recently, I would've sworn on anything that he didn't lie. At least, that's what I used to believe. Now, I'm not so sure. I avoid both their eyes, looking around the room for some sort of escape. The ugly beige walls suddenly become incredibly fascinating. I can still feel Kade's gaze though, burning into the exact spot where Cam is standing. The silence stretches. It feels like time itself has stopped. After what feels like an eternity, Cam finally steps away from my bedside, silently giving Kade room. Kade doesn't thank him. He simply takes the space Cam vacated, placing the takeout bags on the small hospital tray before turning his attention fully to me. "Well, guess who listened to your stomach and

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    Taking Kade’s Side

Sora Kaden Anthony Black is insane. Like, a complete and utter lunatic. That's the only conclusion I can come to as he proudly narrates the disappearance of his shirt with a grin plastered across his face, like I’m supposed to pat him on the back for throwing away perfectly good clothing. Yeah, that isn't happening. “Kade, that's not a flex.” I point out with a frown, adjusting myself on the ridiculously uncomfortable hospital bed. “It’s not?” He actually sounds disappointed, his lower lip puckering out. “I thought it'd make you proud. Or happy at least.” “Why would it?” “I dunno.” He shrugs. “Maybe because your boyfriend put your sworn enemy in her place.” I roll my eyes. The last thing I need right now is a childish back and forth. I almost met God a few hours ago and apparently He looked at me and decided, no thanks, send her back. Why? I'm still trying to figure that out. “Are you good? Do you need food?” Kade is suddenly by my side, the pout gone, replaced

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    An Early Widower

Kade I pace the length of the waiting room, my heart seizing with every passing minute. Sora was deathly allergic to roses. Deathly and I wasn’t aware. The room had been filled with roses, rose petals and those godawful scented candles. The doctor said that if Cameron hadn't found her when he did, if she'd remained in that room for even one more minute, it would've been too late. Even now, it had been close. Too fucking close. I drag a hand through my hair for what has to be the hundredth time tonight, my chest tightening painfully. God, this is all my fault. She didn't want to come on this stupid date in the first place and I pushed her into it. If I hadn't pissed her off, if I hadn't stood there entertaining Daisy while Sora was upstairs alone, I would've been with her. I would've noticed something was wrong. I would've gotten her out before she collapsed. Instead, Cameron found her. The thought twists something ugly inside me. My attention drifts to Daisy, who is curren
