Sora

“What are we doing here?” I look around the place; it’s a hotel, but not quite one, if that makes any sense.

Kade, unsurprisingly, ignores me and makes his way to the entrance, leaving me to either follow behind or go back.

But here’s the thing: he’s well aware I will follow him because as much as I know Cam won’t kick me out, I can’t deal with being next to him either.

“Are you going to ignore me our entire ride here?” I ask again as we step into the elevator, but yeah, just as I suspected, he is still quiet.

What the fuck is wrong with him?

Wasn’t he the one teasing me all night? Even the ride down here had been rather fun, so where is this switch coming from?

I want to punch him square in the face and not give a shit about his silent treatment, but I cannot.

I hate that he is ignoring me.

I don’t know why, but it makes me want to cry. Want to scream.

The feeling crawls under my skin the longer he stays quiet.

Did I say something wrong?

No.

Maybe.

Fuck.

Great, now I’m replaying every conversation we’ve had in my head like some lunatic trying to find the exact moment everything went wrong.

Was it the kiss?

The ultimatum?

The fact that I agreed to the bet?

Or maybe he finally realized I’m not worth the trouble.

The thought punches me so hard in the chest that I actually have to look away from him.

Stupid.

This is stupid.

I’ve known him for less than a day.

Less than a day and somehow this whole silent treatment game is driving me insane, much more than Cameron’s lack of trust.

Okay, that’s it, I’ve had enough. I push him deeper into the elevator until his back is pressed against the metal.

My fingers poke at his chest. “What.” poke. “The.” poke. “Is.” poke. “Your—”

He grabs my wrist, stopping my pokes, but that doesn’t deter me. I kick his knees, making him buckle to the floor.

“Problem.”

I smile triumphantly, arms crossed. Kade just stares at me, then the floor, and back at me, still very much quiet.

I can’t even tell what he is thinking; his face is blank and oh my goodness, this is driving me insane. Kade is driving me insane.

“Why are you mad at me?”

He shrugs on his knees. That’s his answer. A fucking shrug.

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about Kade, it’s that the man despises standing. Any opportunity to sit, lie down, crouch, or kneel, and he’ll take it without hesitation.

“You said I wasn’t a terrible kisser, so why are you ignoring me now?”

Again, more silence.

Fine.

Anger bubbles deep in my bones. If he wants to act like a bitch, I’ll show him how to be one.

I spin around and smack the red emergency stop button.

The elevator jolts violently before grinding to a halt.

“If you don’t speak to me,” I tell him sweetly, leaning against the elevator doors, “then we might as well spend the night here.”

His brows shoot up. “I don’t mind as long as I get to sleep.”

“Kade,” I warn, “what was it about being transparent, or does that only work when it’s convenient for you?”

He gets off his knees and sits in a crisscross position, looking up at me, and oh boy, my hands itch to ruffle his hair. It’s not my fault; he looks like a really cute poodle.

“I am not upset or ignoring you,” he drawls. “I haven’t had the chance to rest in a while, and today was kind of a long day, don’t you think?”

I hadn’t thought about that. With the whole Cameron thing, I’d been so busy feeling sorry for myself that it never occurred to me Kade might actually be exhausted.

Shit, I’m certain he doesn’t want to fake date anymore. Way to go, Sora.

“I’m sorry. I just—”

“It’s fine,” he leans back, resting on the metal and closing his eyes.

I stare at him, his features burning at the back of my mind. I don’t understand why men are built prettily.

This sicko has the healthiest, longest eyelashes I’ve ever seen in my life, and looking at them makes me want to crawl into his lap and pepper kisses from his forehead to his lashes and then—

Woahhh, I shake my head, hoping the thoughts will leave, but it grows even stronger.

“Come sit with me.”

I hit the button again, feeling the soft buzzing of the elevator before indulging Kade and sitting next to him.

“What?” I ask, my eyes trained on the door.

“I want you to understand one simple thing about this bet we have, Sora.”

I turn my attention slowly to him. This is the first time I’ve heard him call my name without that teasing tone or in a genuinely serious manner.

“What bet?”

“This relationship.” He shifts against the wall, finally looking at me. “I know you’re doing this because of Cameron and a few bucks, but I need you to understand that I’m not in this only to clear the allegations.”

A strange feeling pools at the depths of my stomach.

“Then why are you doing it?”

His gaze drags over my face before settling back on my eyes.

“Because I want you, Sora Raine.”

That is fucking ridiculous. We’ve known each other for less than a day. No one ever wants someone that quickly.

Right?

Kade’s mouth curves into something dangerously close to a smile.

“And unlike you, I’m not pretending otherwise.”

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    My Official Girlfriend

Sora I toss and turn, trying to shy away from the blinding light burning through my eyes, but it's futile. A groan slips past my lips as I burrow deeper into the hospital pillow, every muscle in my body protesting the movement. Ow. Who knew making out could count as cardio? ...Actually, scratch that. I know exactly why I'm sore. Heat rushes to my cheeks as flashes of last night threaten to replay in vivid detail. I squeeze my eyes shut and shove my face into the pillow. Absolutely not. I am not reliving that before breakfast. The steady beeping of the heart monitor drags me back to reality, followed by the faint scent of antiseptic reminding me I'm still very much in a hospital room. God, it's like Kade has embedded himself into my veins. I've never been brave enough to take control in bed before, yet somehow it came so naturally with him, like my body already knew what to do. And I came so hard from it too. Five fucking times. How am I supposed to face him today? It's not

Kade I lift Sora off me and lay her back down on the bed, quiet and careful. As much fun as it is leaving the door unlocked, the last thing I want is someone walking in on what I’m about to do to her. I’m going to fuck her so hard she forgets her own name. “Where are you going?” she breathes out, lips pink and swollen from our kisses. I flash her a slow smile before crossing the room and clicking the lock. The soft sound echoes in the quiet hospital room. “Nowhere, shadow.” I lean back against the door, drinking her in. Her chest rises and falls rapidly under that flimsy gown. I can’t decide if I want her completely naked or just like this—something about the way the fabric clings to her makes my cock ache. “What?” she snaps, but there’s heat in it. She pushes up on all fours and crawls toward the foot of the bed like a predator. I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand, licking my lips. “Lie back down and spread your legs for me.” She pauses, eyes narrowing, but then

Kade I can never get tired of kissing Sora. She tastes like an oasis—fucking pure, sweet enough to drown in. Every slide of her tongue quenches the worst of my thirst, but it only leaves me starving for the rest of her. She pulls back first, chest heaving under the thin hospital gown, lips swollen and glistening. “You keep kissing me like a starving man.” A low chuckle rumbles out of me as I chase her mouth, nipping at that plump lower lip. “Because I am.” My hand stays braced beside her head on the pillow while the other slides down her side, fingers tracing the edge of the flimsy blue gown. The hospital gown does nothing to hide how hard her nipples are already. I tug her closer on the narrow bed, the metal rails cool against my arm. “You have no idea what you do to me, baby. One taste and I’m gone.” Her breath catches when I duck my head and drag my mouth along the line of her throat, sucking lightly at the pulse fluttering there. The room is quiet except for the sof

Sora "It's nothing." Cam glances down at me before continuing, "Her heart rate was going crazy and I wanted to make sure she was okay." The lie slips from him so effortlessly that it catches me off guard. I've known Cameron for practically my entire life and until recently, I would've sworn on anything that he didn't lie. At least, that's what I used to believe. Now, I'm not so sure. I avoid both their eyes, looking around the room for some sort of escape. The ugly beige walls suddenly become incredibly fascinating. I can still feel Kade's gaze though, burning into the exact spot where Cam is standing. The silence stretches. It feels like time itself has stopped. After what feels like an eternity, Cam finally steps away from my bedside, silently giving Kade room. Kade doesn't thank him. He simply takes the space Cam vacated, placing the takeout bags on the small hospital tray before turning his attention fully to me. "Well, guess who listened to your stomach and

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    Taking Kade’s Side

Sora Kaden Anthony Black is insane. Like, a complete and utter lunatic. That's the only conclusion I can come to as he proudly narrates the disappearance of his shirt with a grin plastered across his face, like I’m supposed to pat him on the back for throwing away perfectly good clothing. Yeah, that isn't happening. “Kade, that's not a flex.” I point out with a frown, adjusting myself on the ridiculously uncomfortable hospital bed. “It’s not?” He actually sounds disappointed, his lower lip puckering out. “I thought it'd make you proud. Or happy at least.” “Why would it?” “I dunno.” He shrugs. “Maybe because your boyfriend put your sworn enemy in her place.” I roll my eyes. The last thing I need right now is a childish back and forth. I almost met God a few hours ago and apparently He looked at me and decided, no thanks, send her back. Why? I'm still trying to figure that out. “Are you good? Do you need food?” Kade is suddenly by my side, the pout gone, replaced

  • Playing Fake With Kade Black    An Early Widower

Kade I pace the length of the waiting room, my heart seizing with every passing minute. Sora was deathly allergic to roses. Deathly and I wasn’t aware. The room had been filled with roses, rose petals and those godawful scented candles. The doctor said that if Cameron hadn't found her when he did, if she'd remained in that room for even one more minute, it would've been too late. Even now, it had been close. Too fucking close. I drag a hand through my hair for what has to be the hundredth time tonight, my chest tightening painfully. God, this is all my fault. She didn't want to come on this stupid date in the first place and I pushed her into it. If I hadn't pissed her off, if I hadn't stood there entertaining Daisy while Sora was upstairs alone, I would've been with her. I would've noticed something was wrong. I would've gotten her out before she collapsed. Instead, Cameron found her. The thought twists something ugly inside me. My attention drifts to Daisy, who is curren
