Chapter 3

Author: Redleaves
My mother sensed immediately that something was wrong and pulled me into her arms.

"Opal, what happened?"

I glanced at the servants in the room and forced my emotions down. "There are too many people here."

My father dismissed all the attendants.

Once every servant had left, I told them everything that had happened in the Crimson Blaze Pack.

At the mention of Sophia's name, my father frowned.

"Sophia? Is her father named Mario?"

My mother's eyes lit up with recognition. "Mario, the driver who works for you?"

So that was it. I couldn't help but laugh.

Sophia wasn't the Werewolf Council chairman's daughter at all. Her father was just one of several drivers who worked for mine.

Mario had only been hired two years ago, so he'd never met me.

Besides driving for my father, he was also tasked with handling our family's discarded luxury items.

As for Sophia's so-called moonstones and lunar crystals, they'd almost certainly been stolen from our household.

My father slammed his palm on the table. "A driver's daughter, pretending to be the chairman's? I'm calling the Council right now!"

I quickly stopped him.

The Blackstone Pack had an age-old tradition.

To become the next Alpha, one had to live alone in an unfamiliar pack for three years, disguised as an Omega.

Only by experiencing life as the weakest could one earn the right to lead the pack.

For the past three years, I'd been undergoing my trial in the Crimson Blaze Pack.

If I went after my so-called "friends" the moment my trial ended...

...it would only invite unnecessary gossip.

I laid out my plan.

I wanted them to throw away their last chance at survival on their own, and then watch the power they worshipped crumble to nothing.

That way, when they fell into ruin, not a single stain would land on me.

My father smiled when I finished. "Good. Now that's my daughter."

My mother reminded me, still worried. "Opal, even though you've always been a Blackstone member, you did transfer your registration to Crimson Blaze three years ago. The proper procedures still need to be followed. Have you entered your screening results into the system?"

"Don't worry, Mom. I took care of it ages ago."

I pulled up the Werewolf Council's system to show them.

When they saw the "Screening Passed" status, they finally relaxed.

After all that, I pulled out a second phone.

The Crimson Blaze group chat already had over a hundred messages.

The pack Elder was repeatedly warning all the young wolves.

"The screening window closes in one month. Any wolf who hasn't completed the genetic screening will lose their chance to join the Blackstone Pack."

"Do not trust any private promises. Everyone must complete the genetic screening."

Nobody responded.

But in another group chat, one without the Elder, the conversation was blowing up.

They were all mocking the Elder for being a coward.

"Sophia already promised us. Why bother with the blood draw?"

"After they take blood from your heart, you're weak for at least two weeks. No way I'm going through that."

"Those idiots are still worrying about whether they carry the aggression gene, while we're already Blackstone members."

Silas chimed in.

"Only nobodies with no connections have to follow the rules."

The next moment, Sophia sent a photo of the Werewolf Council's Silver Moon Tower.

"I'm already here to see my father. Don't worry."

"Before the deadline, I'll get all your names on the exemption list."

The group chat exploded with gratitude.

I scoffed and closed the chat.

The more arrogant they got, the better it suited me. Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

All I had to do now was sit back at the Alpha's estate and wait.

Every eye turned to Sophia.Streams of murky grayish-white water ran down her body, revealing the patchy, mottled fur underneath. The supposedly pure white fur had been nothing but dye."Oh my God... it was dyed!""I knew it! No real white wolf would be a fraud. She's a mutt!"Laughter and contempt washed over Sophia like a tidal wave.Sophia stood blank for a moment, then let out a bloodcurdling scream. The guards moved in, hauling the troublemakers to their feet one by one and clamping them in shackles.Silas stared at Sophia's mottled fur, then at my calm expression. The last drop of color drained from his face.He dropped to his knees with a thud, frantically bowing his head toward me."Opal, I was wrong! I was so wrong! Please, give me one more chance!"His collapse was like the first domino falling."Opal, please, we were tricked by Sophia too!""We're friends who share everything! You can't just leave us to die!""Please, miss, have mercy! Forgive us just this once!"Pleas for m

At my command, every large screen across the city switched to the footage I'd prepared in advance. After my rebirth, I'd been on guard from the start, recording everything with a hidden camera. The public screens played footage of me urging them to complete the genetic screening. The clips ended with their merciless mockery of me."What would an Omega like you know about survival? Some people have the connections to skip the screening.""Someone at the bottom like you will never understand. The rules you follow so obediently? The chairman can wave them away with a single word."The entire square fell silent for a second, then erupted like a volcano."What a twist! They were the clowns all along!""So these idiots believed Sophia, and now they're turning on Opal, the one who tried to save them?""This isn't just stupidity. This is pure malice!"On the clock tower, their faces went from red to white, then from white to green. The lies they'd carefully woven were torn to shreds by the iro

The phone was playing an emergency news broadcast."We interrupt with breaking news!""A group of Crimson Blaze wolves have seized the clock tower in the city center. They have doused the area with turpentine and are threatening mass self-immolation.""They are demanding that the Werewolf Council reopen the genetic screening..."On the screen were Silas, Sophia, and my so-called "friends."Their faces were streaked with war paint, torches raised high, their expressions wild with desperation."This is a problem." My father's expression turned grave.I looked at those twisted faces on the screen and sighed.I'd thought the farce was over. I hadn't expected them to have the energy for a second act.My father looked at me seriously. "Can you handle this?"I nodded. "Don't worry, Dad. I prepared a contingency plan. All I need to do is..."I laid out my plan, and my father nodded in approval. He issued the order in a low voice. "To the clock tower. Opal will handle this. Consider it her firs

Sophia clutched her face and stared at me in disbelief. "You're the... the Alpha's daughter?"I scoffed. "If not me, who? You?""Sophie, what's going on? Isn't your father the Council chairman?" someone asked, voice trembling. My father looked at Mario. "Oh? You're the Council chairman?""I'm sorry, Alpha. I... I was just being foolish. I deserve to die for this."Mario finally buckled under the pressure and collapsed to his knees.Sophia's body slowly crumpled as she mumbled, "How is this possible... she's just an Omega..."Everyone was stunned by the sudden turn of events. They looked from the kneeling Elder to the trembling Mario, and the truth finally sank in.They had been deceived. They had missed the genetic screening, which meant they were about to be expelled and cast out as rogues with no pack to protect them."Sophia, you liar!"Silas glared at her, his eyes burning red."Blame yourselves for not having the guts to take the screening!"Sophia screamed hysterically, "It was j

"You, an Omega, claiming this car belongs to your father? At least try to make your lies believable."Silas laughed as he pulled out his phone and looked up the Rolls-Royce Phantom's license plate. The result came back fast."The plate matches the car, but... wait. Why does it say it belongs to the Blackstone Alpha?"Mario waved it off."I just finished a meeting with the Alpha. When he heard I had a small matter to attend to, he lent me his car."He said it as if it were nothing, but to everyone listening, it carried a much deeper meaning.Who else could casually borrow the Blackstone Alpha's personal car if not the Werewolf Council chairman? The last shred of doubt vanished. They crowded around Mario, begging him to save them."Don't worry. You're all my daughter's friends."Mario struck a pose of authority. "This is a minor matter. One phone call is all it takes."Everyone visibly relaxed.Silas hurried up to him, his face oozing flattery."Chairman, I need to report someone." He ja

My words snapped them back to their senses. The most important thing right now wasn't taking their anger out on me. It was saving their own skins."Right, Sophia, your father is the Council chairman! He can definitely make this work!""Exactly! Your father probably passed the order down and someone forgot to carry it out. It's not too late to ask him!"Sophia bit her lower lip, her eyes darting. "My father is too busy with work. He won't have time to answer.""How do you know if you don't try?""Stop stalling! If you don't call now, it'll be too late!"Sophia was cornered. She pulled out her phone and made the call."Hello, Daddy? Oh, you're in a meeting? Okay, I'll hang up then."She sighed. "My father is in a meeting right now. He handles important matters and can't be disturbed."They all exchanged uneasy glances, but none dared push back.I darted in front of her, snatched the phone from her hand, and lit up the screen."Who are you trying to fool, Sophia? You never even dialed."I
