ALICE

The pounding in my chest had started to slow down as I sat in the car, but I still could not get the image of the man out of my head. I pressed my trembling hands tight against my lap, hiding my fingers in the fabric of my skirt.

A lot of questions was going through my mind, who was that man and why was he following me?

Could it be that Dominic had sent him after me as an act to get back at me?

I shook my head at the thought, it couldn't be him, maybe it was Mrs Stevens.

I was so lost

DEVONI pulled the jersey top off my body with smile on my face. The image of Alice cheering for me and raising that colorful cheer board high in the air had been one of the best things I had seen all day.Unlike every other time in the past when I had seen her standing in those exact stands cheering for Dominic with so much joy, today she was staring right at me, her blue eyes had been locked completely onto mine."Man, I wouldn't say you are the luckiest guy on earth to have Alice, because I know you will just start saying you don't want to talk about it," Mac said, walking into the locker room and snapping me right out of the thoughts in my head. "But seriously, you are the luckiest man on earth."I turned my body to face him, sitting down on the bench to unlace my skates. "She is full of surprises, I guess."Mac let out a little laugh, leaning against the rows of lockers. "I love girls who are full of surprises." He leaned a bit closer to me, lowering his voice. "Especially girls

ALICE"Do you think Dominic sent that man after you?" Brea asked, her voice hushed as we walked down the concrete hallway leading inside the hockey stadium."I don't know," I replied, my fingers clenching tight around the wooden handle of the cheer board in my hand. "It could be him, or it could be his evil mother."Brea let out a long sigh, her eyes filling with worry as she kept pace beside me. "Girl, you have to be careful. My spirit of unnecessary gossip is telling me this whole thing is bad news, and for once I think it's actually right.""I know, Brea," I said, stopping for a second as we finally walked out into the bright stadium and took our seats in the very front row. "But I can't let Dominc and his mother scare me, I need to be a step ahead of them." Brea stared at me, her mouth dropping open as a look of deep worry crossed her face. She reached out and grabbed my arm, her fingers squeezing tight. "Alice, stop it. I love that you are standing up for yourself, but this new

I shook my head at the thought, it couldn't be him, maybe it was Mrs Stevens.I was so lost in thoughts that I did not notice Devon reaching across the seat until his hand wrapped firmly around mine.I flinched at the sudden touch and snapped my head up to look at him."Easy," he said softly, his eyes shifting down to where our fingers met. "You are shaking."I quickly pulled my hand out of his grip and tucked it away. "I am not shaking."A slow, knowing grin spread across his face. "No?" He leaned back against his seat, his gaze moving over me from head to toe. "Could have fooled me.

ALICEThe cold evening air blew across my face the second I stepped out of the car. I shook my head, trying to brush away the thought of how close Devon had just been to me. The way his gaze had lingered on mine with so much heat was messing with my mind."I am not letting that mean anything," I muttered to myself. I rubbed my palms together to keep warm, trying to slap the thought out of my head.I couldn't allow myself to be foolish again. Not with Devon, and not with anyone else. I took a deep breath to cool the warmth that the closeness had caused as I walked through the sliding doors of the mall.I grabbed a cart and started pushing it down the aisle, mentally counting the things I needed. "Hair dye, a few toiletries, some snacks..." I whispered under my breath, checking them off on my fingers. "And definitely some pepper spray."I stopped in front of the beauty aisle, my eyes scanning the rows of hair dye boxes. I brushed my fingers over the packages, wondering which color would

DEVONI felt her shift beneath my palm, her eyes darting around to check if anyone was still watching us. The exact second she realized the cameras were gone, she stepped away from me and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.I wondered how she managed to look so composed when she was clearly tense."You don't have to do that, you know," she said, looking up at me with an expression I couldn't quite read. "It wasn't necessary."A smirk pulled at my lips, and I stepped a little closer. "If you don't want a scene like that to happen, cupcake, then don't go to public places that put your face and exact location all over the internet."Her eyes widened in shock. She quickly pulled her phone out of her bag and stared at the screen. A low gasp left her lips. "Seriously? Who the hell posted this?"My smile grew as I watched her. The sudden shock on her face, the fact that she had forgotten to hide her real feelings, made her look like a completely different person. The thought caugh

ALICE The glass door of the café slid open as I stepped inside. After the awful morning I had, all I wanted was to sit down with Brea and pretend the rest of the world didn't exist.I walked toward her table, glad she had texted me to meet up just in time. Spending time with her was exactly what I needed to clear my head.I sank into the chair opposite hers, letting out a quiet breath to calm myself. The sharp sting in my cheek had faded to a dull throb, but it still felt like Mrs. Stevens’s palm was pressed against my skin."I almost thought you were going to stand me up," Brea said, glancing away from her phone screen to look at me. The second our eyes met, her smile vanished. She leaned across the table, her eyes widening. "Alice... what happened to your face? Your cheek is completely red."I instinctively pulled my hair forward to hide the side of my face, taking a quick sip from her water glass. "It's nothing. Just a rough morning.""Come on, girl," Brea pressed, knocking her kn
