Chapter 2

작가: Unstoppable Rain
"E-Evelyn, how on earth did you know?"

There was finally a tremor in Mr. Turner's voice. The commanding authority he had been maintaining moments ago had also disappeared in the face of the eerie fog.

Several boys who had been mocking me earlier also panicked and stood up one after another.

"Mr. Turner, shouldn't we tell Mr. Porter to stop the bus right now?"

"This fog is unnaturally thick. We can't see a thing!"

"Yeah! Evelyn said once this bus drives into the fog, it'll never come out. Let's turn around now!"

Seeing that everyone on the bus was finally on my side, I felt the tension in my heart ease slightly. If everyone forced Mr. Porter to stop the bus, the tragedy could be avoided.

"Mr. Turner, tell Mr. Porter to stop the bus, now!" I shouted.

Mr. Turner swallowed hard and immediately turned toward the driver's seat, yelling, "Mr. Porter! Mr. Porter, pull over and hit the brakes! The fog is too thick. We can't continue forward!"

"I'm trying to step on the brakes too! But for some reason, the brake pedal suddenly became extremely stiff. I can't press it down at all!" Mr. Porter roared frantically from up ahead.

Panic erupted in an instant.

Unable to remain calm any longer, Hugo suddenly stood up and screamed, "How can the brakes fail? Pull the handbrake!"

Instead of slowing down, the bus accelerated as it continued downhill due to its momentum.

Everyone clutched their seats in despair.

I squeezed my eyes shut and braced for the weightless sensation of falling into the abyss, just like what I had experienced in my previous life.

However, the expected out-of-control plunge off the cliff never happened.

Instead, the navigation system's robotic voice echoed loudly throughout the bus all of a sudden. "Beep! The bus is about to enter the exclusive tunnel for Newhaven University's new campus. Please slow down."

Immediately after, a whoosh rang out.

The bus broke through the thick fog, and the view ahead suddenly opened up. There was no cliff, and no road leading to death.

Rather, a modern, brightly lit, spacious tunnel appeared right in front of us. Above the tunnel entrance hung a huge blue sign that read, "Dedicated Tunnel For Newhaven University's Southern Campus."

The deathly silence inside the bus lasted for a full three seconds before deafening cheers erupted.

"A tunnel! It's the tunnel to the school!"

"That scared me half to death! I thought we had really entered some kind of twilight zone!"

Up front, Mr. Porter let out a heavy sigh of relief. "The brakes are also working again!"

The speed of the bus steadily decreased, and it continued smoothly through the brightly lit tunnel.

My classmates who had been scared out of their wits just seconds ago awkwardly wiped away their cold sweat.

Right after that, everyone's eyes locked on me once again. This time, those gazes were filled with anger and intense hatred.

Mr. Turner had a livid expression as he pointed at me and shouted, "Evelyn Randall! What else do you have to say for yourself? This is what you meant by driving toward our deaths? That the bus is never coming out?

"Do you have any idea what you just did? You incited panic, nearly causing a stampede and a traffic accident!"

Hugo straightened his wrinkled white shirt and sneered as he looked at me. "I told you, you were just hallucinating because you were under extreme stress. We were literally only passing through a pocket of cold air in the valley.

"Once we arrive at school, I will immediately report your disruptive behavior on the bus to the academic affairs office."

The crowd echoed his sentiment, eyeing me as if I were a lunatic.

"She's truly psychotic. We almost got killed because of her."

"I'm definitely requesting a dorm change during registration later. There's no way I can live with her."

I stood frozen in place. My mind went completely blank. What was going on?

In my previous life, the bus had clearly driven into the dense fog and fallen into a deserted valley, leaving the 35 of us waiting for death in despair.

Why was there a tunnel ahead this time? Could it be that my outburst just now had triggered a butterfly effect, causing the bus route to actually change?

Had my rebirth really saved us?

I collapsed into my seat, staring blankly out the window. The tunnel lights rapidly flashed past us.

Just when I thought everything had safely passed, something unexpected happened.

  • Reborn on the Freshman Bus to Nowhere   Chapter 8

The next morning, the real Newhaven University orientation bus safely brought us—the group of freshmen who had experienced a life-and-death ordeal—to the new campus.Right as I got off the bus and was about to head into the campus for freshman registration, I spotted Hugo at the main plaza by the school gate.I was surprised he had actually been released. Except right now, Hugo looked rather miserable. He was standing among a group of upperclassmen and freshmen, delivering a passionate speech."You guys have no idea! Our bus had the absolute worst luck yesterday. As if running into a group of kidnappers wasn't bad enough, we had to deal with this psychotic girl on board!"Hugo's spit went everywhere as he played up his sob story, fervently saying, "That girl's name is Evelyn Randall. She has a severe delusional disorder."The kidnappers only wanted money, but she was dead set on trying to get us all killed with them!"The crowd was stunned as they listened, and they all stared

The SWAT captain of the team walked straight up to me. As he glanced at the black remote control in my hand, a hint of approval flashed in his eyes."Hand it to me. You're safe now," he said kindly.I let out a relieved sigh and handed the remote to the captain. As he watched this, Hugo grew frantic. "I'm the hero who kept things under control!"The captain whipped around and cut off Hugo's endless blathering with a fierce bellow. "Shut up!"The boys who had taken the lead in smashing the windows walked over. Their eyes were bloodshot. One of the more hot-tempered boys kicked Hugo straight in the stomach.Hugo was sent falling to the ground, clutching his stomach. My other classmates surrounded Hugo as well, overwhelming him with their furious tirades. Even the usually quiet and meek girls couldn't resist stepping forward to land a few kicks on him.Hugo could only clutch his head as he thrashed around on the ground.I merely stood to the side and watched everything coldly.J

In that moment, the instinct to survive overcame fear. The two boys in the very front row were the first to react. With bloodshot eyes, they grabbed the fire extinguishers from under the seats and swung them madly against the windows on the other side. The sound of glass shattering echoed continuously throughout the bus. While the boys were frantically destroying the glass, the girls were helping each other as they prepared to leap out through the broken windows. When Jude saw this, he knew the situation had evolved beyond his control. They'd never be able to capture all 30-plus of us if we scattered and fled into the complicated tunnel systems of the air-raid shelter. They would fail to fulfill the buyer's order, and the boss would tear him apart."Damn it! You filthy bitch, you dare trick me?" Jude roared hysterically. "Get them! Take her out!"More than a dozen burly men swarmed the bus while swinging steel pipes, looking like a pack of wolves. The scene instantly spiraled o

As he held the girl hostage, Mr. Turner glared at me wickedly and said, "You really are quite clever."At this point, my classmates had a total meltdown. They had originally thought this was nothing more than an unfortunate traffic incident. Who could have guessed that this trip—supposedly a joyful journey heading to freshmen orientation—was actually a kidnapping that had been planned long ago?"Mr. Turner… why are you doing this?" shouted a boy, his voice breaking.Mr. Turner burst out laughing, the sound echoing through the bus."The most valuable thing you have isn't the money in your bank accounts. You're a bunch of physically healthy university students who just turned 18…"The moment those words came out, a deathly silence fell over the bus. Seconds later, several girls even fainted from shock."Alright, William. Drop the act. Slow down and pull into the drop-off location," Mr. Turner shouted toward the driver's seat. The bus that had been speeding wildly immediately slo

Mr. Turner was stunned for a moment. Then, his face darkened with anger as he pointed at me and roared, "Evelyn, how much longer are you going to keep this up? Will you not be satisfied until you get everyone on this bus killed?"A few boys who were friendly with Mr. Turner immediately chimed in."Yeah, Evelyn! Shut up!""If you hadn't started shouting earlier, Mr. Porter wouldn't have panicked and gone down the wrong way!"Ignoring their accusations, I walked straight down the aisle toward the front of the bus.Hugo suddenly stretched out his arm and resolutely blocked my way. He asked, "Evelyn, what exactly are you trying to do?"I stopped and looked at Hugo coldly. "Aren't you the one who cares most about logic and science? Then, use that brain of yours and think carefully—where did that broadcast just now come from?"At those words, Hugo froze, his brows knitting tightly together.I pointed at the illuminated display above the driver's seat and said, "How was the radio able

A very faint electric crackle sounded, and just as the bus had driven deep into the tunnel, the cabin lights suddenly went out without any warning.Immediately afterward, the bright lights along the ceiling of the tunnel began to go dark, one after another. Starting from behind us, row after row of lights rapidly went out.Endless darkness surged forward at a terrifying speed, swallowing everything behind us and instantly engulfing the entire bus."Why did the power go out?""It's dark outside too!"The lively cheers inside the bus instantly turned into a chaotic clamor of shock and confusion.Just then, several muffled mechanical clicks rang out in quick succession. The pneumatic doors of the bus were automatically locked, and every window lock was forcibly cut off and jammed tight. We were completely sealed inside a speeding iron coffin.Mr. Turner pounded frantically on the seat in front of him. "Mr. Porter! Turn on the lights! And why are the doors locked?" From the drive
