“Are you sure she would be there?” I asked my brother, anxiety thrummed through me making my nerves feel like live wires. I had never felt like this, ever….not even on the day I killed my father. “Have my visions ever led us wrong?” Kian, my twin brother said, his milky colored unfeeling eyes turning to look at mine with an accuracy that never got less startling…..or frightening. My twin brother was one of those people called, ‘touched by the moon goddess’. He came out of the womb five minutes behind me, eyes milky with no hint of pupils. A sure sign of the moon goddess's seers, her prophets. It was weird because her prophets are usually females but no one could argue the fact that the moon goddess had called my brother. It had painted him as a target, people saw him as weak especially when my father died. They tried to use him against me to take over the biggest pack in America, and just maybe the world, but he came back with the heads of his enemies every time. An alpha in his own right. And now the two of us led the pack side by side, he was the only person who didn't pose a dominance issue to my wolf as others had thought would happen when it came to the time to pick the next alpha. We destroyed the other contenders and refused to fight with each other. Like a two-headed hydra, we were better and stronger by each other's sides. We shared everything, and as the goddess would have it, including our mate. “I can think of one particular time your vision had led me wrong,” I grumbled good-naturedly. He rolled his unfeeling eyes, “That one was on purpose, you were annoying me with your constant henning. I had to teach you a lesson.” And it was a lesson well learnt, I tended to worry over my brother. Not too much that I saw him as a liability but just enough to get on his toes. My vengeful brother gave me a vision that led me on a wild goose chase for months and then straight into an ambush that led to some inches of my precious hair being cut. Someone had been aiming for my jugular. He had cackled like a madman when I came home. Then went after the people behind the ambush by himself. A part of me thought the goddess took his sense of self-preservation and sanity along with his sight. My brother smirked at me knowingly, the bastard probably knew what I was thinking of. He stood up and stretched languidly like a feline, “as long as you stick to time, you would be able to swoop in and save her like the Knight in shining armor you have been dying to be.” I watched as he snapped his walking cane open and started his journey to the door. He didn’t even need a walking cane but he liked to be underestimated, which makes it more fun for him, I guess. “If I'm the Knight in shining armor, what does that make you?” I called out. “His more gorgeous and devilishly charming brother.” He threw back over his shoulder with a mischievous grin just before the door slammed shut. Selena's POV Instinct took over as I dashed through the back door outside into the night's chill. I usually loved the fact that Ellen’s house was isolated from everyone but now it had come back to bite me in the ass. Oh God, Ellen…. I fought the growing nausea at the back of my throat, my skin clammy and moist. There was no time to go into shock now, I had to survive first. Gravel crunched under my fluffy bunny slippers as I pushed myself even harder, my lungs started their protests which I paid no attention to. I could have easily shifted into my wolf but my body still hurt from the pain I had felt earlier on and to shift now while my body was sore would put me at a greater disadvantage. If I could just get to the car… The winds seemed to change with me, urging me on, as I changed directions to the front of the house where the car was parked. Chills racked through my body as I ran, the cold biting my skin through the thin white nightgown I wore. The nightgown Ellen bought for me. I bit back a sob as I ran past the garden I was weeding earlier that day. The air on my hand standing was the only warning I got before the car in front of me exploded, the force of the blast throwing me to the ground. Pain slammed into me as I landed wrong on my wrist. I winced, lying there as my body protested even the rising and falling movements of my chest. The flames from the burning car cast an eerie orange light on the masked figure, cloaked in black, that was steadily making his way to me. I hoped someone would see the flames and come running but I knew it would be too late if I didn't get moving now. Adrenaline masked most of my pain as I stumbled to my feet. I had only taken a few steps when a gloved hand caught my hair and yanked it so far back, I thought my head would be separate from my neck. A terrified scream burst out from me. “Why are you doing this?!” I shrieked, struggling with all I had left, I would not make this easy for him, I wouldn't. His hoarse voice answered, “By the order of the Luna, Die.” A glint of steel was all I saw and I turned my body instinctively, driving the dagger into my shoulder instead of my chest like he had planned. A scream tore out from me, the pain giving me the strength to shift my hand into claws and rake through his chest. He let go of my hair with a loud bellow and I wasted no time in running into the forest, clutching my shoulder as I ran. Footsteps sounded behind me. I made the error of looking back and I slammed into a wall, a solid warm wall. My shoulder jostled with the movement and I cried out, black spots staining my vision. Warm hands wrapped around me. “Help me,” I whispered faintly. The last thing I saw before the darkness overtook my vision was a pair of violet eyes. Distantly, I heard a roar then I knew nothing.Selena’s POVThe room changed the moment my father stepped forward.A minute ago we were all having a good time with music and food and everyone was smiling but now everything had stopped and all eyes were on Serena, who looked like she had won something. For a second I looked at my father just as my father, not as the leader of our group.I waited for him to say something to Serena to tell her that this had gone too far to be fair but he did not.Instead, he cleared his throat. Walked over to Serena's side.Something inside me felt still."My daughter has raised an issue " he said and his voice was loud and clear because when he speaks people listen. "Second-chance bonds are very rare in our community. If Serena's claim is true then we need to look into it."People started talking and whispering to each other. I could hear them judging us before they even knew what was going on.My father kept talking. Serena stood beside him looking confident."If there is a chance that Kai and Kian
Selena’s POVI looked at my father.I was not the little girl who was scared of what he thought.I said to him "The same craziness your daughter started.”I said this in a voice even though my heart was beating very fast.People, in the room started gasping. My father's face turned stern."Watch how you talk to me " he said."No " I said in a voice. "For once, I think everyone should know what is really going on, not just what we want them to see."My words had an impact.Because everyone knew what I was talking about.Maybe not all the details. They knew what it meant. The years of treatment. The silence. My father started to say something. Then something else caught everyone's attention.Roland stood up quickly. His chair almost fell over. For a moment he did not look like the person in charge. Like a man trying to stop something bad from happening. He walked fast towards Serena."Serena " he said firmly when he reached her. "That is enough."She did not even look at him. This surpr
Selena’s POVFor a moment nobody. Nobody spoke, because the entire hall seemed to be holding its breath while waiting for Serena to answer me.I stood at the center of the stage. Although dozens of eyes were fixed on me the only person I watched was Serena. Her smile was gone, not completely. Just enough for me to see the crack. The room had. She felt it too.“What truth?" Serena asked finally. Although her voice remained smooth I could hear the tightness underneath it. "Selena this gathering is not the place for matters.”A moment ago she had no problem turning my existence into public entertainment. Now suddenly privacy mattered. I almost laughed.“Really?" I asked softly tilting my head. "Because you seemed very comfortable introducing me to everyone a minute ago.”Whispers immediately erupted through the crowd. Several Alphas exchanged glances. A few older women covered their mouths. Nobody wanted to miss a word. Serena’s jaw tightened.“That isn’t what I meant.”“Then what did yo
Selena’s POVI looked around the room at all the people waiting for me to say something. It felt like the whole room was watching me. It was a really heavy feeling.. Instead of making me feel nervous it made me feel calm inside. My eyes went back to Serena. She was the one who started all of this. She set up the seats she got everyone's attention. She wanted everyone to look at me. Now they were all staring at me. Not in the way she thought they would be.I slowly pushed my chair back. The sound of the legs scraping against the floor was really loud in the quiet room. Kai grabbed my wrist. His grip was gentle. I could see the worry in his eyes."Selena " he said quietly leaning in close to me. "Do not do this." I looked at him and for a second I saw that he was really worried about me. Not about himself. About me."She is trying to get a reaction from you " Kai said, his voice low. "That is what she wants." Kian nodded in agreement with him. For once he was not hiding how he felt."Ju
Serena’s POVThe room was feeling really comfortable. That was exactly when I decided to shake things up.People were. drinking, and they were all congratulating each other. The servants were moving around the tables with trays of wine and fancy food. The atmosphere felt warm and fancy.Which meant nobody was expecting anything to go wrong.I got up from my seat. Right away the conversations around the hall started to die down. You know power can be really loud.Sometimes it is applause.Sometimes it is silence. This time it was silence.Roland looked at me from beside my chair."What are you doing?" he asked quietly.I smiled at him."I am being a host " I said. His eyes got a little narrower. He did not believe me.To be honest, I did not care what he thought.I lifted my glass."May I have everyone's attention?" I said. The room immediately got quiet.Hundreds of eyes turned toward me.I smiled at all of them."First I want to thank every Alpha, Luna, advisor, elder, and honored gu
Serena’s POVThe day of the gathering finally. I stood in front of the mirror for a long time. I had spent weeks getting ready for this day. I still wanted to make sure everything was perfect.I was not worried about what other people would think of me.The thing is today was a deal.Every little thing mattered today. My dress looked great on me. The dark color made me look like the Luna that everyone knows. I looked powerful. Like someone you do not want to mess with. The thing about how people see you is that it only has to look real.It does not have to be true. Then I heard a knock at the door.I said "Come in".The door. Linda came inside. She looked a little scared. That was good.Everyone was scared today."The guests are here " she said quietly. "The ones you wanted to be are also here."I started to smile."Are the guests I wanted to see here?"Linda said yes."Yes, Luna".That was it.This was the start.I said "Good".Linda turned to leave. I stopped her before she got to t
Selena’s POVKai clasped hos hands tightly around the glass but stayed quiet, taking slow sips of the water instead.“I’ve never been wanted by my own pack. I was deemed the useless one because I’m fat and now, even my mate chose my sister over me.”The sound of glass shattering against a wall fill
Selena’s POVIt’s been a few hours since I woke up and the room was still empty.Slowly, I pulled the covers off my body and swung my legs over the edge of the bed, placing my palms on the bed and glancing around the room. It was eerily quiet and for some reason, that made me unsettled.I sigh and
Selena's POV Turn around little mouse…I squeezed my eyes shut and slowly, I did. Kai stood in the doorway behind me, hands clasped behind his back, looking calm like he had been waiting there the whole time but his anger was written in the stillness of his body. His muscles were tensed and he was
Selena’s POVI chugged down the entire glass of water and wiped under my lip with a napkin, avoiding Kai’s curious eyes.He slowly lifted the spoon to his mouth, watching me intently as he ate. A strange maid brought a bottle of wine and dropped it on the table before nodding at him and scurrying o
