Lori's POV
"I'm pregnant, Lori." Janie's voice was barely above a whisper, and I spun around in shock, my heart already swelling with joy for my best friend.
"Janie! Oh my goddess!" I rushed across the VIP suite and threw my arms around her, squeezing tight. "That's incredible! I'm so happy for you!"
She chuckled, but it didn't sound as exciting as I thought it would be. My eyebrows pulled together in a frown as I pulled back to look at her face. Her smile didn't quite reach her eyes.
"When did you find out? How far along are you? Wait—who's the father?" I grabbed her hands and pulled her toward the couch, practically bouncing. "Tell me everything. Don't leave out a single detail. And please... Tell me that it is for your mate!"
"Two months." Janie smoothed her emerald dress and settled beside me. "And the father…" She tilted her head, a strange little smirk playing on her lips. "You'll find out later tonight. And yeah he's my mate."
"What does that mean?" I laughed, a little bit confused. "Is it someone I know? Is it someone on the team?"
"Something like that." She looked away, toward the massive window overlooking the ice rink. The arena was already filling up the forty thousand seats, and everyone would be occupied before the game even started. There were millions more that were watching from home, and I felt the strange swell of pride filling my chest. This was Silas's night too. The night he would be awarded a championship medal because he would win. We were all certain about that.
"Well, I have news too," I said, my hand unconsciously moving up to touch my tummy, but I paused midway and let it hover. I didn't want her suspecting yet. But I was desperate to tell her because she was my best friend, the closest person I had to a family after Silas. "But I can't tell you yet. I want it to be a surprise for Silas first. After the game, when he's holding that trophy, I'm going to announce it to everyone."
Janie's head snapped toward me, and she tilted it slightly. "Announce what?"
"I said I can't tell you!" I giggled cheekily, "Trust me, it's going to be the best night of our lives. Double the celebration."
"Double," she repeated slowly. "Yes. I suppose it will be." Then, she gave me a once over, and a smile that looked genuine came over her face.
"You look beautiful tonight," Janie said, her eyes traveling over my silver gown. "Silas won't be able to take his eyes off you."
"You think so?" I turned back to the mirror, adjusting the neckline. "I wanted to look perfect for him. This is his biggest night."
"It's going to be a night no one forgets." Janie stood, smoothing invisible wrinkles from her dress. "I should get to my seat. The game's about to start."
*
The game was beautiful as I watched from the owner's box, the privilege of being the Captain's wife, as Silas and everyone was roaring his name as if he was a god on the ice rink. Which he was, if you'd ask me.
Crane! Crane! Crane!
I screamed with them too until my throat was raw, and my hands pressed against the glass. When the final buzzer sounded and the scoreboard blazed with our victory, I was already crying. Happy and proud tears for my husband. Tears for the secret I was about to share with the world.
I made my way down to the ice level, my heart hammering as staff members ushered me toward the stage where the trophy presentation would happen. Silas was still on the ice, accepting congratulations from teammates and reporters. Our eyes met across the distance and I smiled widely, waving at him.
"Lori." He came towards me, towards the stage and he didn't' kiss me. He didn't even touch me. "You shouldn't be down here yet."
"I wanted to be close to you. You won, baby." I reached for his hand, but he pulled away before I could hold him. "Silas? What's wrong?"
"Nothing." His blue eyes, usually so warm when they looked at me, were cold right now. "Just stay out of the way until I'm done with the ceremony. Can you do that?"
The words stung, but I nodded. "Of course. Whatever you need."
Did something happen? Did anyone make him mad? This was supposed to be his night and nothing was supposed to take this victory from him... then, what?
*
"Thank you to everyone who made this night possible," Silas said, his voice echoing through the arena after he had been presented with a medal and was given the microphone to make a speech. "My teammates, my coach, and my pack." He paused, and the crowd erupted again. "This season wasn't easy. There were obstacles, distractions, and even people who claimed to support me while working against me behind my back."
I frowned. That was new. I stared at his side profile from the little distance between us, forcing a smile on my face because I was worried. Did something really happen?
"But tonight isn't just about hockey." Silas turned, and his eyes found me. "Tonight is about the truth. About exposing the lies that have been rotting the Glendale Pack from the inside."
"What are you doing?" I mouthed to him, but his eyes only grew colder.
"Our Luna," Silas continued, and every word dripped with venom. "Lori here, the woman who stands before you, wearing my mark, living in my house, eating my food." He took a step toward me. "She's been lying to all of us."
Everywhere went silent at once, so silent that I could hear my heart racing.
"Silas, what are you..."
He laughed as he turned back to the crowd. "This woman... this Omega I took pity on and raised up... has been spreading her legs for half the pack. Before our mating, she sold herself to pack members for money like a common whore. And after our mating?" His jaw tightened. "She continued. Because one man was never enough for damaged goods like her."
"No!" The word ripped out of me before I could even stop it. "That's a lie! I never... Silas, I would never—"
"Then explain this." He pointed to the massive screen above the ice.
And I felt my spine go rigid at once as I stared at the screen. I was naked, tangled in sheets with a man whose face was on me as he was fucking me. The video wasn't of good quality, but it was unmistakably me... my auburn hair, my curves, my voice moaning so hard the same way I did anytime Silas and I made love. Picture after picture flashed across the screen, each one more explicit than the last, but I didn't remember any of it.
"Silas, that's not... I don't remember..." I was shaking so hard I could barely stand. "Someone set me up."
"Someone set you up?" Silas's laugh was cruel. "The same excuse every cheater uses. You're pathetic."
He turned his back on me and faced the crowd. "I, Silas Crane, Alpha of Glendale Pack, captain of this team, publicly reject Lori Crane as my mate and Luna. She is stripped of her title, her position, and a place in my pack."
The pain came instantly and my knees buckled, and I found myself sinking to the ground. "Silas… please…" I couldn't form words.
Instead, he reached out a hand toward the side of the stage, and Janie stepped forward. She took Silas's hand, and he pulled her against his chest.
"There is one more announcement," Silas said in a triumphant voice. "Tonight, I claim my true mate. My destined mate, Janie Sims. And we are expecting our first child."
Janie smiled at me.
"Congratulations, Lori," she mouthed silently. "You finally got what you deserved.”
Renée"Girl... I heard the news, and I couldn't believe it." Sheila, one of my friends, giggled on the call and a slow smile made its way to my face. "I have so many questions to ask, and not just that, but the girls and I will be pausing our trip to grace this your occasion.""It's fine. No hurries." I told them warmly. "I still know your measurements, and the designers have already chosen the style that will best fit you. As for the make up artists..." I sighed as I thought about it. "I don't know if I should fly in that international make up artist that you all liked, or...""Yes, yes yes, please Renée... Yes!" They all chattered their response, begging me to fly the person in."He's quite expensive, Renée... Are you sure...?" Queen, my least liked friend, commented and let it trail off. "I just saw it here on my phone that Dante is already married and...""He's just waiting for her wake from her coma before handing over the divorce papers...""Are you so sure, Renée?" Queen pushed
Dante Dominic"You're going back there again?" Marcus asked me the moment he saw me stepping out of the study, as if he already knew. "You've been in her room when you're out of the company or the study, don't you have time for yourself?"Time for myself? That wasn't part of my vocabulary. Spending time alone with Lori had made me realize how much I had begun to like her, even though Renée was right that I used to entertain her. But I liked Lori more, and I knew this grew beyond the guilt because even my wolf barely responded to my mate bond with Renée."It's already three months, bro..." Marcus began. "And she hasn't shown any signs of waking up. Why don't we..." He paused and I felt my back straightening because I knew where he was heading, and it wasn't going to be an option even though he and my father suggested it. "Pull the plug. She's gone...""Don't you dare say that." I growled so deeply that I could feel the heat that came off my nose. "Even if it takes a fucking eternity to
RenéeI was restless the entire evening because I had been very impatient and showed my hand too soon. Mila needed to go because what I just did was enough trigger for her. What if she began talking to Marcus? And knowing how Marcus didn't like me, he would make it more believable when he spoke to Dante about it.And Dante? Dante usually listened to him. Apart from his mother, the next person who could change Dante's midnight about anything was Marcus. It would ruin my goals and I wouldn't let that happen.I walked towards Dante's study in a flimsy night dress, I mean... He would have to get used to me looking this way as our wedding ceremony was set for the weekend, and I needed to make sure that Mila was out of this house before then. I fixed my expression to look demure as I nodded on the door. I could hear the shuffle of papers and his voice murmuring behind the door, meaning he was still awake."Come in." I heard his deep voice say, and I could tell he was already tired. He was s
Dante DominicI hated the fact that the footage had no audio, but I was thankful that there was a footage in the first place. I had to call the security to bring Mila back into the living so she could watch the video as well, and we would see who was lying or telling the truth. The footage played on the big screen of the living room as everyone watched while holding their breaths. We watched her approach the bed, stand over Lori's form, and from the angle we saw, it was like she was brushing Lori's hair to the side and not touching the ventilator tube like Renée had alleged. Then, ten seconds later, Renée burst through the door screaming. It didn't show anything like attempted murder, just a sad maid looking over her boss. Everyone breathed out in relief and all eyes were now between Mila and Renée."Well?"I kept my eyes steady on Renée who looked as pale as a ghost. "That is the footage, isn't it? We haven't seen anything you..."Mila broke into a full sob as she sank her knees to th
RenéeTwo months later after a whole back and forth, the house was buzzing with preparations. I had played the victim behind in front of everyone and had a good time behind closed doors. Even Eleanor and her daughters had begun to accept the idea that I was going to be Dante's wife soon. Vivian had stopped scowling at me, and Eleanor was even directing the florists and decorators on how everything should be placed.I took a sip of my glass of wine and smiled to myself, but it didn't last long as an unwanted bug blocked my line of vision."Hey..." She came in like she did before, addressing me as if I was on her level. She was lucky that she was still needed during these preparations, and before the marriage, she would be long gone. "What's going on? What's all this for?" Her eyes were wide with amazement as she watched a team of workers from my balcony, carrying flowers. "It looks like a wedding. Does Vivian have a suitor already!"I almost scoffed at that. What man would ever find Vi
Silas CraneI was neck deep in the investigation for weeks so much that Patrick had come to drag me out of my office as usual."Silas, fucking focus!" Patrick slammed the table in frustration. ""Your first fight will be in two weeks and you haven't even joined your warriors to train yet! How would you manage three hundred contestants, plus sixty more people have been added to the list. Shouldn't that be more important now??"But nothing else was actually important as I went through the weekly reports that my investigator had carried out secretly. I used every entry to piece together Lori's movements of her final months in the pack. I wasn't expecting what I saw."Alpha!" There was a knock on my door and my head snapped up, recognizing the familiar tone of my investigator.Patrick knew this as well, and was about to go meet him at the door and stop him from coming in."Don't you fucking dare, Patrick!" I growled, my eyes glowing and my wolf coming to the surface. "Or I will tear you up
Lori's POV "You will be starting immediately as the team's medic. I will give you our training schedules." He paused and met my eyes from across the breakfast table. "I'm sure you're already well aware of it, but for formality sake." His cutlery barely made any noise on his plate. "Don't be late.
Lori's POV "I'll need you to carefully read the terms and conditions of the contract before you sign it." He slipped the document on the hospital bed where I was having my breakfast. "I don't do second chances."His voice was hard and cold the same way it had been last night, and he towered over m
Lori's POV "My children, oh my goodness. Are they... Are they...?" I sat up immediately, my hands moving around my belly, trying to see if I was feeling any pain there, if they were fine, if they were—"Your babies are fine, ma'am. Which is a miraculous thing after all your body has been through."
Lori's POV"Stone the whore! She defiled the Alpha's bed!"Someone from the crowd roared in anger, and everyone else follows until over a hundred thousand werewolves were changing it. I was still on my knees, clutching my chest in pain from the searing pain of Silas' rejection when the first rock h
