Author’s POV

The palace was loud when Sebastian and Isabelle walked back in.

Staff moved in every direction. Warriors in full kit were reporting to the courtyard. Maids stood in clusters speaking in low, urgent voices. The particular chaos of a large household that has lost something important and does not know where to look.

Edwin found them at the bottom of the staircase.

"Isa." He pulled her in immediately, which was not his usual register but the evening had been unusual.

"Mum?"Sebastian's surprise showed plainly on his face. Standing on the other side of the door was his mother, Janet — and grief was written all over her. They had never been close, not the way sons and mothers were meant to be, yet she was still nearer to his heart than his father had ever been. He liked to think of her as a friend, even if they spoke only now and then. To him, that was enough. He had already made his peace with having no relationship with his father; a fragile one with his mother felt like a small mercy."Oh, dear." She forced a smile. "May I come in?""Of course, Mum. You never have to ask."He stepped aside and led her into the room."I'm sorry about Ava. I haven't been able to sit still since I heard she was missing — and to think she was taken from inside the palace." Janet's voice trembled. "I can only imagine how you must be feeling. And poor Ava. She must be so frightened."A tear slipped down her cheek as she spoke, and Sebastian's chest ached at the sight o

The particular chaos of a large household that has lost something important and does not know where to look.Edwin found them at the bottom of the staircase."Isa." He pulled her in immediately, which was not his usual register but the evening had been unusual.Sebastian looked around the entrance hall at the faces turned toward him — worry, confusion, the expectation that the king would know what to do.He raised his voice."I have searched everywhere," he said. "She is not in the palace. I want every warrior in the kingdom out tonight. Every gate, every road, every route to the border." He let the words carry. "My mate will be found before this wedding."A chorus of acknowledgment. Movement. The kind of organised urgency that a well-run palace produces when it has a c

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    Found

Author’s POVEdgar went to his room with a smile on his face.He locked the door and called his man."Is she still unconscious?""Yes, your grace. What do you want done with her?""Put her on a ship," Edgar said. "Take her somewhere far. I do not need to know where. Just make sure no one finds her."He hung up and set the phone on his bedside table and sat on the edge of the bed with the satisfied stillness of a man who believed he had won something. In a few hours the palace would realise she was missing. The wedding would be cancelled. The embarrassment alone would be enough to make Sebastian reconsider everything.Edgar was very good at patience when the outcome suited him.He did not know about the mind link.He did not know that Sandra had gone to Sebastian's study. He did not know about the cameras. He turned off his light and went to sleep.---Sandra ran.She had been waiting by the east entrance for Edgar's signal — the message that was supposed to tell her to go with the men

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    The Garden Again

Ava's POVWhen Edgar called my name across the dining table, every conversation in the room stopped.I felt Sebastian's hand tighten briefly on mine under the table. I looked at him. He gave me the smallest possible nod.I looked at Edgar."Of course," I said pleasantly. "I would be happy to."I stood and followed him out.Behind me I felt the room absorbing what had just happened — the collective confusion of people who had watched Edgar ignore my existence for two months and were now watching him invite me for a private conversation.---The garden was quiet and lit by the palace lights from the windows above.Edgar sat. I sat.He looked at me with the expression of a man who had arranged things to his satisfaction and was now performing a final courtesy before the arrangements executed themselves."You are stubborn," he said. "I will grant you that much.""Thank you," I said."I am giving you one last chance," he said. "To leave. On your own terms, without further unpleasantness."

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    The Proposal

Ava's POVHe came home earlier than usual again.I had claimed the small desk in the corner of the study as my workspace — Sebastian had resisted giving me a separate office on the grounds that separate offices meant distance and distance was something he apparently found medically inadvisable — and I was in the middle of a scheduling document when he came through the door.He kissed the top of my head."I have something to show you," he said, and then crouched down so he was level with me, which was unusual enough that I set the document down."I owe you a proper proposal," he said. "I announced our wedding at a breakfast table. You found out with everyone else in the room." He held my gaze. "That was not how you deserved to hear it.""Sebastian —"He put one finger gently against my lips."Let me finish," he said. "Please."I closed my mouth. He looked at me with the expression he wore when something genuinely mattered to him and he had decided to say it directly rather than around

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan     The Library

Author’s POVSandra deleted the text before the delivery confirmation had fully loaded. She lay on the bed and looked at the ceiling and thought about the basement. About the screaming. About Edgar's hand around her throat and the specific cold certainty in his eyes when he explained what happened to people who thought they were clever. She had thought she was clever. She had thought proximity to Edgar was a resource she could manage. The head maid had been right. Janet had been right. The only person who had offered her anything resembling a real option was Sebastian, and she had gone to his father afterward anyway. She picked up the phone and typed the message. Deleted it before sending. Typed it again.Sent it.Then deleted the sent copy. His reply came within three minutes. The library.---She collected a rag and a brush from the cleaning room because Sandra was many things but she was not careless, and carrying cleaning supplies into a library when you were a maid was invisible
