Audrey's POV

For a moment, I genuinely thought I had suddenly developed a hearing problem, because there was no logical explanation for what I had just heard.

I was certain that the stranger I had just left behind in the elevator had called my name.

Not casually, but with the kind of certainty that made it sound like he had known me for years.

My steps slowed as confusion tightened in my chest, and I turned back instinctively, my brows pulling together.

“How did you…”

The question never made it out.

He was gone.

I blinked, my gaze sweeping the hallway as if he might suddenly reappear, but there was nothing there.

Worse still, I didn’t know his name.

Didn’t know his room.

Didn’t know anything about him beyond the way he had completely unraveled me in less than thirty minutes.

“Where could he have gone…” I murmured, more to myself than anything, already turning in the opposite direction without fully thinking it through.

And then I saw him.

Just ahead, near the end of the hallway, he was stepping into a room.

“Wait!” I called out before I could stop myself, my voice echoing slightly as I hurried toward him.

It wasn’t even a long distance, but by the time I reached him, my breathing had already picked up, my chest rising faster than it should, and I let out a quiet, frustrated breath under my nose.

“Oh God… this stupid body…”

He turned at the sound of my voice, a knowing smile spreading across his lips as his eyes settled on me like he had been expecting me to come after him.

“Are you that impatient?” he asked, his tone laced with amusement as his gaze moved over me in a way that made my skin prickle.

“You couldn’t even make it to your room before coming back for another round?”

His gaze swept over me deliberately, like he was already imagining it.

“I don’t mind, though,” he added smoothly. “I like my woman a little… unpredictable.”

“Point of correction,” I said, straightening slightly as I met his eyes, refusing to let him take control of the conversation so easily.

“I’m not your woman. We’re just two consenting adults having fun with our bodies.”

“And secondly… how do you know my name?”

For a brief second, he looked almost surprised, like the question had caught him off guard.

“Your name is Audrey?” he asked, brows lifting slightly. “I didn’t know that.”

I stared at him, completely unimpressed.

“Don’t play dumb with me,” I said, my voice sharpening despite myself. “We didn’t introduce ourselves. I never told you my name. Who the hell are you?”

The air between us shifted, and instead of answering, he simply pushed the door open wider and stepped aside, his gaze never leaving mine.

“Second round,” he said calmly, as though that alone was enough of an answer. “And I’ll tell you.”

I stared at him. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

The audacity of this man was genuinely breathtaking.

“You think I’m going to sleep with you again just to find out how you know my name?”

I hesitated, if only for a moment, because something about this was starting to feel strange in a way I couldn’t quite explain.

But then again, nothing about today had been normal from the very beginning, and somehow that thought was enough to push me forward.

I walked past him into the room, my pulse louder in my ears now, and the door closed behind me almost immediately.

Before the words even left my mouth, he swooped me up with one swift motion, slinging me over his shoulder like I weighed nothing.

“Wha—?!” I squeaked.

A sharp smack landed on my ass, making me gasp.

Did this man just carry me? A whole 170 pounds like I was nothing?!

He walked toward the bed and dropped me on the middle with ease, spread my legs apart, leaning down with his lips where I was soaked, and I screamed out instinctively.

He froze, looking up at me, one brow raised. “What?”

I pulled back and pressed both palms flat against his chest, pushing.

“What is your problem?” I breathed, moving back. “I’m not a damn teenager. You don’t just get to fuck me into forgetting the question.”

“You mean eat you up?” he asked with a smirk.

“Whatever. Just answer the damn question.

He reached out and lifted my wrist gently, turning it so the light caught the thin gold chain sitting there.

“Lovely bracelet,” he said simply.

I snatched my wrist back. “Are you serious?” I stared at him. “That’s it? That’s the big mystery? You read my bracelet?”

“You asked how I knew.”

“I thought—” I cut myself off, pressing two fingers against my forehead

“I didn’t even realize I still had it on. I’ve been wearing it so long I forget it’s there.”

He tilted his head slightly, studying me with that too-careful attention that was starting to get under my skin.

“Gift from the man who made you cry?”

I looked at him sharply. “Do you ever rest?”

“Not particularly.”

“Well, since you’re so annoyingly nosy, no, it wasn’t a gift from my husband,” I said, my voice flattening.

“My husband has never given me a single gift in Sixyears of being together”

“It was from a secret admirer in college. Small gifts here and there. This bracelet was the last one.”

I looked down at it without meaning to.

“I never found out who it was. I’ve worn it every day since because it was the first gift anyone ever gave me that felt like it was actually meant for me.”

I reached down to gather my bag and straightened up.

“I need to go,” I said, clearing my throat. “I need to take a proper shower. It’s been a catastrophic evening.”

“You can shower here.”

I looked up.

“You look like you need a second orgasm,” he said, his voice dropping just enough to do serious damage to my composure.

“And I’ve been told my tongue is very good company.”

My entire body responded before my brain could intervene as I clenched my thighs together.

“Well… don’t you think if we are going to be fuck buddies, we should at least cover the basics? I don’t even know your name.”

He shook his head slowly, like the answer was the funniest thing in the world.

“So you really don’t recognize me, Audrey Hepburn?”

Logan's POV The order rippled across every radio channel."Charlie Team, maintain visual, no contact, no confrontation,” I ordered."Understood," came the immediate reply."If the man with the backpack is only carrying equipment, then he's expendable,” I said, turning to John."You think he's a courier,” John said, as he frowned."I think he's the lowest person in the chain,” I replied."And the higher-ups?" John asked."They won't expose themselves unless they believe the route is secure,” I muttered."The jammer just went offline,” Kimmie said, looking up from her laptop.Every head snapped toward her immediately."What?" I muttered and she refreshed the screen."The interference stopped six seconds ago,” she said and I stared at the monitor."They're moving,” I muttered."Or they've finished what they came to do," John said.Neither possibility was encouraging. The technician monitoring the ground sensors spoke again."Movement,” the technician said."Where?" I asked."The western

Logan's POVBy noon, every member of the surveillance team was in position. The abandoned psychiatric hospital looked exactly like the photographs had suggested, forgotten by the world.Nature had reclaimed most of it, vines climbed cracked brick walls, broken windows stared back like empty eyes. The iron gates had collapsed years ago, leaving only rusted hinges swaying in the breeze. From a distance, it looked lifeless. That was precisely what bothered me.Places that were truly abandoned didn't consume fuel every night. They didn't receive armored vehicles and they certainly didn't attract Victor Hale."Status,” I said as I lowered the binoculars. The command crackled through my earpiece."Team Alpha in position.""Bravo in position.""Charlie covering the eastern access road."I looked toward the tree line. John stood a few feet away, studying the property through his own binoculars.Neither of us had spoken much during the drive. There wasn't much left to say.The truth was somewh

Logan's POVSleep had become a luxury. Not because I couldn't close my eyes, but because every time I did, another piece of the puzzle shifted.Victor Hale wasn't running anymore, he was retreating. There was a difference.A man who ran wanted to survive, a man who retreated already knew where he was going. That made him far more dangerous. The conference room at Lowill Group headquarters was quiet when I walked in just after six in the morning.John was already there, standing beside the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking downtown Los Angeles. Without turning around, he spoke."Did Audrey sleep?" John asked and I nodded."Eventually,” I said."And you?" he asked and I smiled faintly."I watched her,” I replied. He turned to face me, studying me for a long moment."You love her,” he said.It wasn't a question. Months ago, I would have denied it. The contract, the revenge, that had been the plan. Now… There wasn't a contract in the world strong enough to explain what Audrey had becom

Matteo's POVPeople always assumed power came from money. They were wrong, money bought influence.Power came from information; information ruined reputations; information started wars; information buried men long before they reached a grave.I stared at the city through the floor-to-ceiling windows of my office, a glass of whiskey untouched in my hand.Los Angeles glittered beneath the night sky. Ordinarily, I enjoyed this view, but tonight, it looked like a battlefield. My phone buzzed and there was one message. “The Hargroves searched Margaret Doyle's apartment.”That was too late. I just deleted the message immediately. Someone else had already cleaned the apartment before the Hargroves arrived. That wasn't my work, it wasn't Victor's either, which meant someone else was still protecting the truth. That thought unsettled me. I hated unknown players.A knock sounded at my office door."Come in,” I said and Grant, my head of corporate security, stepped inside."They're moving faster

Audrey's POVThe photograph lay on the conference table like a live grenade.Matteo and Victor Halenstanding less than three feet apart. Not by accident, not in passing. They were obviously talking. Logan was the first to break the silence."When was this taken?" Logan asked.Kimmie slid another document across the polished table."Eight days ago,” Kimmie replied and John's expression darkened."Location?" John asked."A private marina in Long Beach,” she replied and I frowned."A marina?" I asked and Kimmie nodded."The meeting lasted eleven minutes,” Kimmie said.Only eleven. Eleven minutes had somehow connected my past and present in ways I never imagined."This one,” Logan said, as he picked up another photograph."Victor arrived first,” Kimmie said, as she leaned closer."And Matteo?" Logan asked."Came six minutes later,” she replied and John folded his arms."They are working on something” John muttered. No one disagreed. The evidence spoke for itself, a meeting like that di

Audrey's POV"They found him alive."For a moment, I forgot how to breathe. The words hung in the air between Logan and me, refusing to make sense.Victor Hale was alive. My knees felt weak as I slowly sat down. Across from me, Logan remained standing, his phone still in his hand."Where?" I finally managed and his jaw tightened."They aren't sure yet,” Logan replied and I stared at him."What do you mean they aren't sure?" I asked."They tracked a recent financial transaction,” he replied and my stomach twisted."A bank account?"I asked and Logan nodded."One that shouldn't exist,” he said. That sounded ominous."Apparently Victor Hale has spent the last fifteen years pretending to be someone else,” I muttered.Of course, he had. Nothing about this situation could ever be simple."So he changed his name?"I asked, as I rubbed my forehead."Several times,” Logan replied. That somehow made everything worse, because innocent people didn't spend decades hiding behind fake identities.Only

Audrey’s POVThe moment Logan picked up the phone too quickly, something inside me twisted. My smile faded slowly. Logan kept talking casually like nothing had happened, but now I couldn’t stop staring at him…At the phone in his hand, at the way he had hidden the screen immediately.A terrible feel

Audrey’s POV“Mommy, are you really okay?” Nia asked and I smiled tiredly as I folded another set of clothes into the suitcase.“Yes, baby,” I replied.Nia stood beside the bed with her tiny arms crossed stubbornly.“Then why do you have that on your head?” she asked, as her little finger pointed d
