Sabrina’s Pov

“The guests have arrived." my voice quivered, the sound startling them.

Fiona let out a scream, scrambling immediately, reaching for her clothes, as if she had any dignity left to gather.

But Tucker? My husband? He didn’t rush.

Of course, he didn’t.

He stepped back slowly, like nothing had happened. as if I hadn’t just walked in on something that shattered everything that I thought I understood about my life. He adjusted his shirt with a sense of calmness, completely ignoring the chaos that was tearing me apart.

Fiona rushed past me, her head down in shame. A few minutes ago, it had been thrown back in pleasure, forgetting that he was my husband.

“What are you doing in my office?” his voice was low, the words hitting me harder than they should.

“What?” my voice barely above a whisper as I stared at him.

My chest tightened, this wasn’t just about betrayal, it was the fact that it meant nothing to him. Tears lined the walls of my eyes as I watched him.

His eyes met mine again, and as usual, they were cold, detached, like I was a nuisance. “I asked you a question, Sabrina.”

Something inside me cracked, like a glass finally crumbling under pressure. My nails dug into my skin, my silent way of trying to stand tall, as if I wasn’t about to drop dead. “Your party… it is your birthday party,”

He raised his brows, “A party?”

I nodded quickly, desperation slowly creeping in, “I told you a few weeks ago, I wanted… a surprise,” I was back to that orb, the wife, provider, an image that was needed of me.

“I never asked for a party,” he muttered, picking his cufflinks from the table as he slowly adjusted his sleeves.

“Every year, I have always thrown a party for you, the people are expecting something big this time,” my voice cracked.

“And if I refuse to attend?” he dragged out the words.

My breath hitched, the hall was filled with people, “Please,” my voice trembled.

“Why, Sabrina?”

What did he want me to say?

That I wanted to be loved?

That I wanted to be seen?

That I was tired of being invisible to him and our marriage?

“It is expected of the Luna…. of us,” I said the words I have been trained to say.

***

“Luna Sabrina, you have outdone yourself this time,” one of the guests whispered, shaking her head in admiration.

“How do you do it? Year after year, making sure nothing is the same,” another muttered.

A Luna grabbed my hand, “This is beautiful, your husband must be the luckiest man on earth,” she smiled.

I smiled politely at each compliment, thanking them with practised grace like I had been trained to. Each word about Tucker felt like a reminder of my crumbling world.

How long has this been going on?

Have I been so blind as not to see anything?

My unease deepened as I waited for his entrance, he didn’t say he would, but I hoped he did. The entrance door opened, and I stood with the rest of the guests as I watched my husband, walk in with my son beside him, behind them was Fiona.

Tucker’s eyes found me, a small smile graced his lips as he walked toward where I stood, “This is really beautiful, my love," he said the words so smoothly as he pecked my cheeks.

His affection for me has always been a show.

But with Fiona, I had seen the gentleness that we haven’t had in five years. Funny that all it took was a minute to realise the truth.

I smiled, “You make me happy,” and I leaned into his side. The words felt like ash on my tongue, a hot brining coal as I smiled.

The guest clapped, all celebrating the pain I kept masked behind a smile. “You have to cut the cake; don’t you think so?”

I stood on the far end, Tucker, Milo, Fiona and then me.

Has it always been like this?

I guess I was just the last one to see. The truth hit harder than it should, this wasn’t new. I just never watched.

TWO HOURS LATER

“Mom!”

My head snapped to the side, a smile forming on my lips as I watched my son run down the stairs. I dropped the plates I was holding, waiting slowly for impact from his hug. But it never came, he ran past me, his eyes barely sparing me a glance.

He ran straight to Fiona’s arms, wrapping his arms around her as if it were a natural thing. Fiona chuckled, her finger gliding through his hair, “Hey, sweetheart did you have fun?”

He beamed, “There is a cake, can I have a piece?” his voice filled with excitement. “Please, Mom!”

I stood there, unmoving, watching the scene unfold right before me.

She crouched down, the smile not leaving her face, “A cake this night? Do you think that is a good thing?” She was affectionate, she was warm.

“You said if I was good, I would have it, please mommy…. I have been good all night,”

She laughed, “You have been, my boy, you have been. I guess we can have a little piece and then you can get to bed.”

My hands trembled, “Milo, come here,” I forced the words out.

He didn’t move, he didn’t even act as if he heard my voice, his eyes were still on Fiona, like she was the sun in his universe.

“Milo!”

“No!” he screamed, grabbing Fiona, hiding his face in her thigh, as if I was a monster.

Tucker, walked in, his eyes instantly on them, a smile that I haven’t seen before on his lips. “What are you doing little man,” he ruffled his hair.

“he is trying to bribe me for a cake,” Fiona smiled, her arms around my son as if she was protecting him from me.

That did it.

“I should give him the cake before he becomes fussy,” she whispered. Fiona walked out with Milo beside her as they chattered, laughing at whatever fun thing they had in mind.

“How long?”

“What are you going on about?” Tucker said in a bored tone.

My hand slammed hard against the table, “How long have you been slowly replacing me in my son’s life!”

“Stop acting desperate, you are being dramatic…”

I wouldn’t recover from this.

“I am done.”

Sabrina’s PovIt has been two days and several doctors’ visits since the accident, but for some reason, Nevan isn’t convinced that I am fit to walk. Instead, he motions my active times, literally keeping me wrapped in bubble wrap. I wasn’t complaining, or anything, but with how careful he is with me, one would think that I am an egg, too fragile to let loose.“Are you sure that you are up for it? I can understand if you want to stay back,” he whispered, his tone dripping with worry as he stared at me.My hand grabbed his, a soft smile forming on my face at the attention he was giving me, the alpha and their partners were meant to be arriving today and for some reason, Nevan thinks it would be better if I rested my leg than stand to welcome them. Cute, but for me, I wasn’t going to let that happen. I did this, I needed to see how well everything had turned out for me.“I want to.” He stared at me as if he were about to argue. But I was faster, “I did most of the organising, I need to b

Nevan’s PovI looked at the men who sat before me, hoping that I looked like I was actually interested in half of the things that they were talking about. I would like to say that I cared, but well, I couldn’t lie to myself. My mind was on Sabrina, I couldn’t even imagine what she was doing. I forced back a smile when I thought about how fuzzy she had been earlier today. Almost causing a world end just because the clock had stopped at 3 am.“Alpha Nevan, are you listening to us?” Elder Aaron hissed, his glare fixed on me.I fixed my face, straightening my form as I looked at him, matching his intensity, “Of course,” I said in a low tone, warning him to not push it.He scoffed, “If you were, you wouldn’t be agreeing to having the moon fang alpha here,” he hissed, his irritation clearly evident.I stared at the list that was placed on the table, “It is an alpha conclave, if he must, he should.”He didn’t like the answer, I knew that, I could see it in the way his jaw had locked, his gla

Sabrina’s PovI was never a superstitious person. But there are little details to things that always made me feel cautious. “What are you staring at?” Nevan’s voice muttered behind me as he held my shoulders giving me a gentle squeeze.“Today is going to be a bad one,” I whispered, feeling the dread sink in my stomach as I stared at the wall clock that had stopped working at exactly 3 am. ‘the devils hour.” Just like my mother had always said.Nevan sighed, not the sound that comes with frustration, but the one that comes with worry, “Why do you think so? Did one of the vendors flake?” he asked.I shook my head, turning my attention towards him, “You are going to think that I am crazy,” I whispered. His brows furrowed, “crazy? Why?”I looked back at the clock that wasn’t moving, “Look at the time, the clock stopped working at exactly 3 am, you know what that means don’t you?” I asked. He didn’t, I could see it in his eyes, but he was too polite to tell me that I was reaching. Sabrina’s PovWe had just one week until the alpha’s conclave. The days sound like we had time, but in reality, there was no time. One thing that I have learnt, occasions like this always have something lacking, one wrong arrangement and everything goes a thousand steps backwards.“Madam, I have the art vendors on the line, what time should I tell them?” Isabelle asked, staring at me with a soft look on her face.“An hour…no, two hours before time,” I said, walking away from her as I tried to confirm the seating arrangement. Isabelle was helpful, more helpful than anyone that I have worked with. She made this easy. As if she understood the vision, I had with the seating charts. “A good seat partner does nothing but give the set experience.” She had echoed those words when I said it.“This looks good, can you switch this alpha? They have a land dispute, you don’t want to start a brawl do you,” I said with a smile.“Of course, I didn’t know that.” I didn’t blame her, I had been privy to

Sabrina’s PovIt was easier to read, than actually send the rest of the day thinking about what Mabel’s words meant. But the brain wasn’t one to keep things hidden for long, no matter how many times I tried to avoid it, it always found a way to creep into my mind. The sound of the door creaking caught my attention, my eyes found Nevan, leaning against the doorframe as he smiled at me with gentleness in his eyes. The book dropped on the floor with a loud thud, “How long have you been standing there?”He smiled walking deeper into the room, “Long enough not to know what you aggressively chew your bottom lip when you are thinking,” he said in a low tone, his hands grabbing mine as he slowly brought me to my feet. “How was your day?” he muttered; his eyes fixed on me.Heat crawled up my neck, the intensity of his stare making me feel like I should hide. “Nothing much.” It was a lie. Between things about Mabel, I couldn’t help but wonder what he was doing. “How was your day?” I asked, tryi

Sabrina’s PovThe gloominess of the day didn’t help the thoughts that plagued my brain. I couldn’t stop thinking about Milo and what would happen with the prolonged time we had to be apart. He wasn’t here and there was a part of me that hated every second of it.“Madam, is everything alright?” Isabelle asked, walking into the room with a slight look of concern on her face.I shook my head, trying to put on a brave smile, but with the way her eyes narrowed, I knew she could see through the lies that I was about to say. “I am fine….”Shen moved closer, pulling a chair out as she settled in on it, “If I may,” her voice was low. “I have seen you, watched you even.” She said with a soft smile. “And I know when you are not fine, so I am going to ask again, what is the problem, madam?”I stared at her, what was she going to think of me if I held her? It wasn’t just about the thought, it was the fact that everything she would think of me would be the truth. I was the person, a mother that had
