LOGIN“Rosie?” Henry called, staring at me in surprise.
I grinned sheepishly.
“Hi, Professor Henry.”
He blinked, lips parted slightly.
“Rosie Alphonse?”
“The one and only…” I trailed off,
His lips broke into a wide smile as he stepped closer.
“My, my. Look how big you've grown.” He grinned, tousling my hair gently.
I pouted.
“The last time I saw you,” he cocked his head to the side. “You were this tall.”
“That was five years ago, Professor Gareth.” I said, rolling my eyes.
“And you've got an attitude I see…”
I pursed my lips in annoyance, folding my arms over my chest.
“What are you doing back in California?” I asked curiously.
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“I'm here with my fiancèe…” a dull noise began ringing in my ears.
His eyes lit up as he spoke, but his voice sounded faint and distant in my ears.
“—apparently a daughter of hers goes to this school,” he said with a shrug.
Fiancee?
My heart slammed painfully in my chest.
“—I mean… obviously I'm not expecting to bump into her or something—” he chuckled, scratching his neck awkwardly.
“—but I just thought I'd drop by the school and say hi to…” he trailed off, eyes focusing on my pale face.
Fiancee.
He had a fiancee…
And he's here with her.
“Are you alright, Rosie?”
I staggered slightly, losing my balance for a moment.
His fingers wrapped around my shoulders, steadying me.
The innocent touch sent a tingle over my body, jolting my mind awake to the harsh sting of reality.
“You don't look too well Rosie. What's wrong?” Henry asked, staring at me worriedly.
I shook my head softly, stepping away from his embrace.
“I'm fine, sir.” I smiled tightly.
He frowned, unbelieving.
“Are you sure?” He asked, stepping closer.
I nodded sharply, forcing a bright smile on my face.
“Maybe I'm just dehydrated or hungry.” I replied.
He stared at me for a moment, then nodded in understanding.
“If you say so…” he murmured.
I stared at my surroundings, as everyone filtered from the school grounds one by one.
“I should get going now.”
“You're right… make sure you eat and get some rest once you get home okay.”
“Yes, sir…” I mock-saluted, sidestepped him as I began walking to the bus.
Once inside, my gaze trailed back to his sturdy form as he calmly walked in.
A lump settled in my chest.
Deep and heavy.
And as the bus trailed off, I forced my gaze away from him.
Closing my heart with finality.

I stared at my half-open door with a frown.
It only deepened when a familiar voice floated into my ears.
I opened the door, stepping in gingerly.
“Mum?” I called.
She popped her head from the kitchen.
“Rosie baby,” she smiled brightly, walking towards me.
I stared at her in surprise, as she wrapped her arms around me tightly.
“You're here…” I drawled.
She giggled shyly as she stepped back into the kitchen, I trailed after her.
Basking in the scent of stewed chicken sauce and steak.
“You didn't tell me you were coming,” I said.
She scoffed lightly.
“I'm your mother Rosie, I don't need to tell my daughter when I'm coming to see her.” She replied as she stirred the stew gently.
“I mean… you didn't need to do all this, I could've ordered takeout or…”
“Now. Now. Rosie,” she wagged her finger in a gentle admonishment.
“I'm your mother okay, and for the time I'm here, we won't be eating any takeouts. You know I'm supposed to be doing things like this for you.”
“How long are you staying?”
“For a while…” she drawled.
I shook my head, with a mild smile.
“Do you need my help?” I asked, stepping closer.
“Of course not.” She replied with a frown.
“You just came back from school dearie, go and take your bath.” She dismissed me with a wave.
“Alright mum,” I replied, walking away.
I stopped after taking a few steps and turned back to her.
“Why did you come back, Mum?”
She glanced at me, “I missed you, sweetie, I wanted to see you.”
I crossed my arms over my chest with a lazy smile.
“I’m still waiting for you to tell the truth.”
She pursed her lips in annoyance, turning to face me.
“I wanted to keep it a surprise though.” She whined, blushing slightly.
“A man?” I asked.
She nodded enthusiastically.
“You should see him, Rosie. He's so hot.” She said, fanning herself dramatically.
“Is he now?”
“I'm serious Rosie, he's so… manly.”
I chuckled softly.
“Alright, alright, let's talk about this when I get out of the shower okay.” I said, walking away from the kitchen.
My feet carried me to my bedroom.
I opened the door and stepped in, walking towards my bed.
“Fucking hell.” I groaned, plopping on the bed, eyes closed tiredly.
I really just wanted to sleep.
Unfortunately for me… I had to meet this guest because if I didn't, it'd make me seem like a rude child and Mum wouldn't be happy.
But a little bit of rest wouldn't hurt right?
I exhaled heavily, eyes drooping close.
The last image that drifted over my blurry consciousness before the darkness took me.
Were a pair of dark blue eyes.
…….
“Rosie dear” Mum's voice echoed.
“Coming,” I replied, with equal fervor as I scrubbed my head with my towel
“Hurry up sweetie, we wouldn't want him to get here before—”
The sound of the doorbell cut her off abruptly.
“Oh my God…”
She shrieked like a schoolgirl that had been waiting for her prom date.
“He's here Rosie, he's here.” She chanted, heels clinking on the tiled floor.
“Get down here Rosie. Now.” She ordered, heading for the door.
I rolled my eyes, opened my wardrobe, and began sorting through my clothes.
I opted to wear a sleeveless, royal blue sundress.
The soft fabric held my chest area, giving it a tight, then flared at the waist down.
I put on my cotton slippers and headed downstairs.
Faint voices drifted from the kitchen, followed by a vaguely familiar deep chuckle.
“Do you like it?” Mum asked.
“It's wonderful Denice.” A familiar voice said.
I frowned, stepping into the kitchen.
Mum stood close to a tall man smiling as they conversed.
She glanced my way, gasping in surprise.
“Oh my…” The man turned to stare at me.
I froze.
His eyes widened in shock.
“Meet my daughter, Rosie.” Mum said, pointing to me.
“Rosie, meet my fiancè, Henry… Gareth Henry.”
Oh boy.
Shit just got a lot… more messy.
The car came to a halt in front of a park.Andrew rushed to my side, holding the car door open and I stepped out.“Why, thank you, kind gentleman.”“You're welcome, milady.” Andrew said, with a slight bow.I chuckled, pushing him away softly. He joined in my laughter.“Come on, time's ticking,” he said, taking my hand in his.My gaze swept around the area, taking in the faint scent of flowers.“Wow…” I mumbled, as we walked in.“Second stop. MayVille Botanical Garden,” Andrew said, with a smile.“What do you think?”“It's beautiful...” I said, as my gaze roamed around the place.A tall figure walked up to us.“Good day, Mr Goldwells. Glad you could make it.” the man said, holding out an arm.“Good day… Barry,” Andrew replied, taking his outstretched arm.“We've taken our time to make sure the place is in the best order for your arrival and uh…” the man drawled.“Are you quite sure you're okay with the people—”“Come on, Barry. I told you it's fine, it's not like anyone knows me here.”
“See you guys later!” I yelled from Lena's porch as I waved at the two lovebirds frantically.Lena grinned, waving back with matching gusto…“Take care!” she yelled back, as Samuel opened the door guiding her in.“Don't bring any boys to our house, okay?” Samuel said, staring at me flatly.I glared at him, arms crossed over my chest.“Real funny, Samuel.”He smirked before going around to the driver's side and putting the car into motion.Lena's window rolled down and she popped her head out.“Bye, Rosie!”“Bye, Lee. Have fun, okay?”“Okay!”A tiny smile tugged at the corner of my lips as I watched the car roll out of sight.“Young love.” I muttered with a sigh.A ping from my phone grabbed my attention.‘Are you set?’‘Sure.’I slipped it back into my pocket.“Guess it's show time.” I went back into the house and began getting ready for my date with Mr Goldwells.………….Two hours later, I stared at myself in the full length mirror.I decided on an ankle-length royal blue satin dress
I sniffled quietly, blowing my nose into another wad of tissue as I curled further into myself on Lena's lap, as the bed squeaked faintly.“It's alright, Rosie.” Lena cooed, patting my back gently.“I'm so tired, Lee.” I croaked.“Shh… I'm here. You're okay now,” she muttered softly.Footsteps echoed from behind us, Lena turned to Samuel.“What is it?”He handed her phone to her.She frowned softly but lifted it to her ear.“Hello.”A sharp cough left my lips, burning my chest in the process.“Mr Gareth.”I sat up immediately, Lena glanced at me.“Yeah… she's here.”‘What does he want?’ I mouthed.“Uh… sure… I'll need to know if Rosie's fine with it though.”She nodded, then pulled the phone from her ear, pressed mute.“Mr Gareth wants to drop by.” “Absolutely not.”“He sounds pretty worried though.”“No, Lena. Tell him not to come.”She exhaled heavily, then placed the phone back to her ear.“She refused, sir.”She nodded again.“Okay.”She held out the phone to me.“He wants to talk
Mum rushed forward, pulling me away.“Stay the hell away from my daughter—”The words died in her throat as she took in the familiar face. She staggered back.“Richards?”“Dee…” Dad croaked.A loud gasp left her lips, she brought her palm over it, her eyes taking on a glassy hue.“Oh my God, Richy…” she whispered.Dad stepped closer.“It's me, Dee.”She dove for him, her arms wrapping around his neck while his came around her waist.“Richy…” she called again this time with tears rolling down her face. While I stood there still in shock.A small crowd began forming around us, murmuring and whispering amongst themselves.Mum's soft cries turned into loud wails as she hugged him tightly, almost as though if she let go—he’d disappear with the wind. And Dad—silent tears rolled down his face while he tried to reassure her that it was really him. They stayed like that for a while, then Mum eased back a bit. This time, taking his hands in hers. She sniffled loudly.“How?” she asked, her tone l
Silence. Her brows furrowed in puzzlement.“What?”My shoulders fell, as exhaustion washed over me.A humorless chuckle left my lips. Then finally—I exhaled heavily.“Scratch that, I think I've always liked him. For years now... I think the closeness just made everything worse.” I croaked.“Oh my God.” She gasped, covering her mouth with her palm.I sniffled, wiping at a tear that rolled down my face.“At least the only person that'll scrunch their face at you would be your mum and a few others. As for mine—”I scoffed.“I don't even want to think about it.”We fell into a longer silence this time.Tense.Awkward.“What are you going to do?” Angelica asked, breaking into the quiet.I shrugged carelessly.“I want to come clean about it.”“And him?”I opened my mouth, then clamped it shut.“I see…” Angelica mused. We both went quiet again. This time, I tapped my fingers against my skirt as my gaze stayed on Elana.Angelica's gaze stayed on Elana's, her eyes filled with mirth.Suddenly—
Louisa gasped dramatically.“Tu as tout à fait raison, Denise.” (You're absolutely right, Denise.)Louisa turned to Angelica and began talking to her.Well, more like scolding.Mum turned to me with a heavy exhale.“Okay, Rosie—”“She's a fucking bitch, Mum.” “I swear to God, Rosie—”“I know Mum.” I groaned. “You don't always have to threaten me to pass a message.”“God help me the day I decide not to do so, only for you to go and wreak havoc.”I pursed my lips.“I'll be on my best behavior.” I muttered dryly.“Thank you.”She turned back to Louisa and Angelica.I leaned towards her.“It's unfair that I'm not allowed to bitch back though.”“Rosie.”I straightened, rolling my eyes.“Fine, fine.”Louisa turned back to us with a smile, and somehow—Angelica now had a smile too.I mean, we could pretty much tell it was fake but anyway…The point was that she was actively trying.“Très bien, alors pourquoi ne pas vous laisser toutes les deux faire connaissance?”(Alright then, how about
Belinda smirked.“I'm sure you're dying to know.”“Oh I am.” I replied, arms crossed over my shoulder.“I just googled your name actually…” she drawled, “I mean I did try Henry's but he's always been a low-key kinda person so… nothing really came up. Then I tried yours and viola.”She sighed drama
I adjusted my bag on my shoulder before making my way to them. Lena followed after me."Are you sure you wanna do this?""Whatever do you mean?" I muttered."Maybe you could talk it out with him once you get home, I'm sure he has a reasonable explanation."Reasonable explanation, my ass.Lena caug
Henry's POV My body melted into her touch instantly. My arms wrapped around her petite body, pulling her flush against me.Her fingers held onto my arm tightly, as though she were scared to let go.I deepened the kiss, pressing my hardness against her, grateful that she was still on her jeans so
“I want you, hm hm hm hm. You want me, hm hm hm.” I hummed along to the music, swaying as I cooked.A flick on my temple had me wincing.I glared at Henry then I pulled the headphones from my ear.“What was that for?” I whined.“A robber could've broken in and stolen everything without you being no
