LOGINCHAPTER FIVE
Slowly, Addie opened her eyes. She felt utterly exhausted, as though every bit of strength had been drained from her body. Every muscle ached. Carefully, she tried moving her arms. She managed to, but even the slightest movement sent pain coursing through her. It felt as though she had been beaten black and blue. All she could do was stare at the ceiling of the unfamiliar room. Why me? Tears welled in her eyes once again. She couldn't understand why she had ended up in such a situation. Why had her parents chosen her to repay their debt? Didn't they love her? How could they hand her over to a man who seemed determined to make her suffer? The tears flowed endlessly. Perhaps it would have been better if she had died than live like this... trapped and at the mercy of that man every single day. She wiped away her tears and took a deep breath. No. She had to think. She needed a plan. She had to find a way to escape. Summoning what little strength she had left, she slowly sat up. The pain throughout her body remained, but she forced herself to endure it. As she looked down, her eyes fell on her wrists. Dark bruises had formed where the restraints had dug into her skin. She bit her lip. Fresh tears rolled down her cheeks. She lowered her gaze to her body and saw the faint marks he had left behind. Who could she ask for help? Certainly not her parents. If they had truly cared, they would never have allowed this to happen. Slowly, she climbed out of bed and walked toward the bathroom. Inside, she searched for something to wear. Opening one of the cabinets, she froze. It was filled with clothes. Blouses. Shorts. Sleepwear. Even underwear and bras in exactly her size. "He really planned all of this..." She picked a simple outfit before stepping beneath the shower. The cool water washed over her face and body. Closing her eyes, she leaned against the wall, letting the water carry away some of her exhaustion. After bathing, she felt refreshed. The pain remained whenever she moved too quickly, but at least she no longer felt sticky and uncomfortable. She combed her hair but didn't bother fixing her appearance any further. She simply wasn't in the mood. Taking a deep breath, she stepped outside the room. The moment she entered the hallway, her stomach growled loudly. She couldn't even remember the last time she'd eaten. Looking around, she searched for the kitchen. The hallway stretched ahead of her, lined with elegant paintings and expensive decorations. At the far end stood a staircase leading downstairs. As she walked, she paused in front of one of the closed doors. Curious, she reached for the doorknob. Before she could touch it— The door suddenly swung open. Standing there was the owner of the house. A man with the face of an angel... ...and the heart of a devil. She froze. He simply leaned against the doorframe, crossed his arms, and stared at her with an amused smile. Before he could say anything... She turned around and walked away. She refused to give him the satisfaction. Quickening her pace, she headed for the staircase. Just as she reached the bottom step, his voice echoed behind her. "If you're planning to escape," he said coldly, "don't even try." She looked up. He stood at the top of the staircase, one hand resting on the railing. His expression remained unreadable. "You have no idea what I'm capable of." "You'll only end up getting hurt." Without waiting for a reply, he turned around and disappeared upstairs. She glared after him. Who does he think he is? I'm not afraid of him. I'll escape this place... And when I do, I'll make sure he pays for everything he's done. Downstairs, she found herself in a spacious living room furnished in a sleek, modern style. She followed the hallway until she reached the kitchen. The smell of food made her realize just how hungry she was. Opening the refrigerator, she sighed in relief. There were several prepared dishes stored inside. Without hesitation, she reheated one of them. She found cold rice as well, but she was far too hungry to bother warming it. She ate quickly, barely noticing the occasional grain of rice falling onto the table. At one point, she nearly choked and hurriedly grabbed a glass of water. When she finally finished, she leaned back with a satisfied sigh. She had eaten far more than she intended. After cleaning up the kitchen, she decided to explore the house. If she wanted to escape... She needed to memorize every corner of the property. Eventually, she found the front door. The moment she stepped outside, a cool sea breeze greeted her. Silently, she walked toward the beach. Before her stretched an endless ocean. She slowly surveyed the island. It was much larger than she had expected. Off to the right was a small forest, roughly a kilometer away. She collapsed onto the sand. How am I supposed to escape? She couldn't swim. Judging by the endless stretch of water surrounding the island, the nearest land was likely miles away. She tilted her head back and closed her eyes as the breeze brushed against her face. Tears quietly slipped down her cheeks once again. Is this really going to be my life from now on? From the terrace, Zake silently watched the woman sitting alone on the beach. Although her back was turned toward him, he could tell she was crying. Her shoulders trembled ever so slightly. This wasn't how he had originally planned everything. The moment he met her... His plans had changed. He couldn't even explain why he had brought her to his private island. Or why he had chosen to stay there himself despite the mountain of work waiting for him back at his office. Something about Adrianne compelled him to remain. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Then, without another glance, he turned and walked away.CHAPTER ELEVENThe first thing Addie felt when she opened her eyes was pain.Every muscle in her body ached—not from injury alone, but from the emotional exhaustion that had consumed her the previous night. She remained motionless beneath the blanket, staring blankly at the ceiling.Fragments of the confrontation replayed relentlessly inside her head. His cold gray eyes. His unwavering grip. The way he cornered her until she felt there was nowhere left to run.She squeezed her eyes shut."No..."She didn't want to remember.More than anything, she wanted to erase the entire night from her memory.Yet another thought tormented her even more. Her own reactions.Despite the terror...Despite knowing she wanted nothing more than to escape...There had been moments when her body betrayed her, trembling under the overwhelming fear, adrenaline, and confusion. She hated herself for it.A tear slipped down the corner of her eye."It doesn't mean anything," she whispered to herself."My body re
A suffocating pressure settled over Addie's chest. She couldn't breathe. Her lungs burned as if someone had stolen every ounce of air from the room. With a sharp gasp, her eyes flew open. For a few terrifying seconds, she couldn't understand what had awakened her. Then she saw him.Moonlight streamed through the open balcony doors, casting pale silver across the bedroom. A tall figure stood beside her bed, motionless, his face half-hidden by shadows. Her heart stopped."...Zake."The name barely escaped her lips.He slowly stepped closer until the moonlight revealed his cold gray eyes staring down at her."You finally woke up."Addie immediately pushed herself backward, scrambling toward the headboard."What are you doing in my room?" she demanded, her voice trembling. No answer.Instead, he continued walking toward her with slow, measured steps. Each footstep echoed inside the silent bedroom. Her pulse pounded violently."Stop!"He didn't."Don't come any closer!"He stopped only whe
CHAPTER NINEAddie woke up in the middle of the afternoon. Before getting out of bed, she lay there for several minutes, staring blankly into space. Eventually, she pushed herself up and slowly climbed out of bed.Stretching her stiff limbs, she walked toward the bedroom window overlooking the sea.A small smile found its way onto her lips. The view was breathtaking. If she had come here on vacation instead of being brought here against her will, she probably would've been genuinely happy. The peaceful atmosphere was unlike anything she had ever experienced. She rested both hands on the terrace railing and closed her eyes. The cool ocean breeze gently brushed against her skin. The air here was so refreshing—nothing like the suffocating pollution of the city, where even taking a deep breath felt exhausting. She remained there for several minutes before opening her eyes again. She was about to head back inside when something near the rocky shoreline caught her attention. Her gaze froze.
CHAPTER EIGHTAddie leaned back against her chair and let out a deep sigh. Why wouldn't Manang Cita believe her?Could she be working with that man?No... judging from the older woman's reaction, she genuinely seemed unaware of what was really happening. Then why won't she believe me?Closing her eyes, she rested her head against the back of the chair. What am I supposed to do now? she silently asked herself. After another weary sigh, she opened her eyes and reluctantly picked up her spoon. She scooped a small amount of the garlic fried rice onto it and stared at it for a moment. With a grimace, she took a cautious bite. She even shut her eyes, expecting it to taste awful—or worse, make her sick. But as she slowly chewed, surprise spread across her face. It's actually... delicious.A smile unconsciously appeared on her lips as she took another bite, this time with a spoonful piled high. Before long, she was eating wholeheartedly.Just as she finished her last bite, someone walked into
CHAPTER SEVENZake stood on the balcony, staring into the endless darkness while loosely holding a glass of whiskey. He let out a long sigh before setting the glass down on the railing and resting both hands against it.He couldn't get what had happened with Addriane earlier at the beach out of his mind.Deep inside, he knew he had hurt her with the brutality of his actions. Yet he didn't regret it. He wanted her to fear him—to think twice before ever doing something that would anger him again.Closing his eyes, he allowed the cool night breeze to wash over him.It was already late, but sleep refused to come. He had tried forcing himself to rest, yet his mind wouldn't stop racing. In the end, he gave up, poured himself a drink, and stepped onto the terrace instead. After another weary sigh, he turned around, picked up his glass, drained the remaining liquor in one gulp, and finally headed back inside to sleep. The sun was already high in the sky when Addie finally woke up. If its brig
The two of them remained on the beach for nearly an hour. She never moved from where she sat, her legs stretched out toward the sea while the small waves washed over her feet, soaking the hem of her shorts.Dusk slowly settled over the island. The sky glowed with shades of orange, reflecting beautifully across the calm ocean. With the sun sinking below the horizon, darkness gradually enveloped the shore. From a distance, Zake continued watching her.She showed no sign of leaving. He let out a weary sigh and closed his eyes.Am I really doing the right thing?Marriage had never been part of their original agreement. When Adrianne's parents could no longer repay the enormous debt they owed him, he had decided to ask for their daughter's hand in marriage instead. But everything changed the moment her father broke their agreement and hid Adrianne from him.The amount they owed him wasn't small. It was worth millions. He had trusted them with his money and even invested in their businesses
