Ariana's POV

I read the note again.

Then a third time.

The words didn't change.

We remember the real princess.

I folded the paper carefully and slipped it into my pocket.

"Why would they write this?" I asked.

No one answered.

Kael was looking beyond the prison corridor, his mind already working through something.

"What are you thinking?" I asked.

He didn't answer immediately.

"They could have killed you."

I frowned.

"They've tried."

"No."

He shook his head.

"I mean today."

He pointed towards th

Ariana's POVNobody reached for the crown. It stayed inside the box, bent and scratched, as if someone had stepped on it years ago.I couldn't stop looking at it."She was never Queen."I read the words again. They didn't make sense.Elias was the first to move. He walked to the table, but instead of picking up the crown, he picked up the note.He read it once. Then he folded it and slipped it into his sleeve."It's a lie," he said.Lyra didn't answer.I looked at her.She was staring at the little crown as though it had reached into the past and pulled something back with it."You don't believe him," I said. She closed her eyes."I believe..." She stopped. "I believe someone wants you to doubt everything.""Did my mother wear a crown?""Yes.""Were you there?""Yes.""Then why are you hesitating?"Lyra rested a hand on the back of a chair."I was there when she wore the crown."She looked at me."I wasn't there when she received it."The room grew quiet—not because no one had anythin

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    The Locked Door

Ariana's POVThe maid turned and ran before anyone could ask another question.Kael was already following her.The rest of us hurried after him.Our footsteps echoed along the stone passage as servants pressed themselves against the walls to let us pass. A basket of clean clothes lay where someone had dropped it. Water spread across the floor from an overturned bucket, making the stones slippery.Something had frightened everyone. The west tower was usually quiet.Today it wasn't.By the time we reached the prison corridor, half a dozen guards were standing outside one cell.None of them looked at ease.Kael walked straight through them."Who opened the door?""No one, Your Majesty.""Then why are you standing out here?"The oldest guard pointed at the lock."It was still locked when we arrived."Kael frowned."Open it."The guard held up a ring of keys."I already did."He pushed the door.It swung inward with a slow creak. The prisoner sat against the far wall. His head rested on on

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    The Enemy

Ariana's POVEamon's hand slipped from mine.I didn't let go.The dirt beneath my knees was cold, but I stayed where I was. The little wooden wolf rested beside him. I picked it up and brushed away the dust with my thumb."You made a promise," I whispered. "You kept it."The words caught in my throat."I'll keep mine."Kael took off his dark cloak and spread it gently over Eamon. He didn't say anything. He simply bowed his head for a moment before standing again. It was a quiet sign of respect. The guards around us copied him.Nobody had ordered them to.Lyra wiped her eyes before anyone noticed."He deserved to go home," she said softly."He spent twenty years carrying someone else's hope."Elias looked at the road stretching into the forest."He knew this day might be his last.""And he still came," I replied."Yes.""He chose to."A gust of wind rolled through the trees.Somewhere in the branches, a raven took flight.Rowan returned from the edge of the forest, breathing harder tha

Ariana's POVThe little wooden wolf lay on the ground between us.One of its ears was chipped.I remembered holding it.I remembered laughing. And I remembered a woman kneeling in front of me, brushing dust from my dress before kissing my forehead. The memory disappeared before I could see her face again."No..."My voice was barely louder than a whisper. The old man smiled as though seeing that memory had been worth the long journey."I knew..." he said quietly. "I knew you would remember."I wanted to ask him a hundred questions.Who was my mother?Who saved me?Why was I left behind?Instead, I found myself asking the only thing that mattered."What's your name?"His smile grew a little."So you can remember me?"I nodded."Eamon."He looked past me for a moment, towards the castle walls."I carried your mother's last request for twenty years."His fingers brushed the folded cloth that had wrapped the toy."I promised her I'd place this back in your hands.""You kept it all this ti

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS LYCAN KING    My Choice

Ariana's POVThe first thing I noticed was the children. Two little boys ran across the courtyard, crying for their mother. A servant caught them before they reached the broken gate and pulled them into the castle.Around them, people hurried in every direction. Some carried buckets of water.Others helped the wounded.Nobody waited to be told what to do.Everyone knew this day would decide the future of Shadowcrest.I stood at the top of the stone steps and watched them.A few days ago, these people had looked at me like I didn't belong here. Now they were risking their lives because of me.The thought sat heavily in my chest.Kael walked down the steps, speaking to the guards as he passed."Move the injured to the kitchens. It's warmer there."One of the guards nodded and hurried away.Another stopped him."My King."Kael turned."The bridge is full of soldiers.""How many?"The guard looked towards the open gate."I stopped counting."Kael rested a hand on the man's shoulder."You'
