Amy's pov
His calloused palm brushed my cheek, wiping away another tear as he spread my legs like butter.
“Take a deep breath bunny, it's going to be a long night.” I collapsed my head back on the pillow and wondered how I had one of the deadliest men in the country between my legs.
Then my mind as if to answer that question pulled my memory back to over a month ago where it all started.
••••••••
“I swear on my grandma's ashes Amy, this time-”
I cut my boyfriend off with a deep frustrated sigh as I wiped the counter with one hand and held my phone with the other.
“No, Jeremy…” I lowered my voice even though no one could hear me over the loud speakers,”Things are finally going right for us, by next month we'll move into a real apartment in a nice part of town there's no need to risk it.”
Finally, I wouldn't have to thread the streets that were lined with gangsters and hoodlums.
“I just need that five grand, baby. Forget that tiny apartment, we'll have a house of our own!”
I stopped whipping, fingers curling around the rag.
Jeremy had always been a dreamer, that's part of the reason I fell in love with him.
But things change when you are no longer a starry eyed college student and you find out dreams don't pay student debt.
Ever since we graduated, Jeremy has turned down every job offer he gets; “I'm just waiting for the right one to give you the life you deserve.” He said as he rotted away on my couch.
“Jeremy, the inheritance money from my grandma might be our only ticket out of the trenches. I'm not going to let you waste it on your gambling especially when you never win.”
He went quiet.
“Fine, forget it! Ignore your loser boyfriend who's good for nothing,” he said dramatically, ending the call.
I put my phone away as a customer approached, but I was uneasy.
My last shift ended and I went to give my boss my final farewell.
“Are you sure about this Baker?” He inquired doubtfully, “if you want a raise, we can…”
“No, it's fine.” I replied politely, there was no way I'd be able to commute from my new residence down here. It would just be easier to get a new job.
I stepped out of the club feeling lighter than a feather.
Just a month ago, I was drowning in arrears of rent and sharing ramen with Jeremy. Now we were about to move to a real apartment where the roof didn't leak and the walls weren't paperthin.
Nothing, and I mean nothing could ruin this.
“Baby faster! faster!!”
I froze outside our bedroom door, our apartment was just about the size of a shoe box and I could hear everything.
My boyfriend's moans mingled with strangers, their rugged breathing and our rickety bed crying out.
I took a rib lift of air and went over to the living room, dropping on the couch trying to remain calm as my heart raced.
Ten minutes of the entire apartment shaking to the rhythm of their lovemaking and my boyfriend walks into our living room with a stranger. He pretends not to see me and gives her a big wet kiss as a parting gift.
“Seriously?” I stood up and crossed my arms, “Didn't we both agree to close our relationship?”
He grunted something and walked over to the coffee table to grab the remote, “Will you ease up? We said we'd start after we moved. Why are you overreacting?”
“Overreacting?” I spat back at him.
“Yes, you're acting crazy as if our relationship has not been open for years now.”
My heart sank as his words forced me to recall the night he sat me down with an ultimatum.
“I want to open our relationship.” He went into a deep rehearsed speech about how that was going to spice up our sex life. He'd been my first for everything but he was a notorious playboy when I met him.
At first I disagreed, but he pressured me until I finally gave in.
Funny enough he was so jealous that if I laughed in the direction of another guy he would immediately lose his marbles but he paraded different girls into our apartment, the apartment that I paid for.
But now that we were getting a fresh start I decided to finally stand my ground.
He had surprisingly agreed with arguing, I didn't know he planned to just keep sleeping around anyways.
“But we discussed…”
“And I decided to ignore you, just like how you ignored me when I asked you for the money.”
My brow furrowed, I reached for his shoulder tilting my hand upwards.
“Jeremy, is that what this is about?”
He didn't respond but his lips drew out into a tight line and I was about ready to slam my head into a wall.
“Jeremy, don't you want to leave this neighborhood? Finally sleep somewhere that you're not scared of being robbed or mugged?”
He pulled away from my touch, gigging into his hair and screaming.
“Whatever, I finally see it. You don't love me, you just stay with me because it's comfortable..”
He walked over to a wall and started descending one punch after another, “I'm useless…worthless…”
“No, Jeremy!” I grabbed his arm, checked his knuckles and they were already bleeding.
It felt like his punches had been aimed directly at my heart and not the wall.
“F-fine..” I said in a strangled voice, “I'll give you access to the account, but it'll be just one game-”
He swooped me off the floor peppering my face with kisses.
“I love you, Amy…” he said, laying me on the same bed where he had just been intimate with another woman, her perfume still lingering in the air.
But I didn't want to complain, didn't want to break the spell of the moment.
Everything is going to work out, we'll move and in a few more weeks we'll be looking at ring sizes. In some years we'll have little ones running around (we'd even picked out their names) that's right, nothing can go wrong.
RAVENNA POVThe room was empty.Good thing, too.I moved around with my cloth, cleaning surfaces that didn't even need cleaning, my eyes more on the laptop left open on Antonio's desk than on the actual work I was supposed to be doing. He had stepped out only minutes ago — something about a call he needed to take in private. That left me with a window. A small one, but enough. My hands shook slightly as I approached the desk. What was I even looking for? I didn't know exactly. Anything. Something I could twist into a story, something that would look bad enough when stripped of context and handed over to a man who wanted nothing more than an excuse to believe the worst about people who had everything he didn't.There were messages on the screen — work related, nothing useful, nothing that would make any sense to anyone outside this house. I scrolled for a moment longer before giving up and snapping a picture of an old photo instead, one buried in his files. A woman, unnamed, from years
AMY POVThe morning had started off fine.More than fine, actually. I had slept well for the first time in days — no dreams of hospital wards or hotel rooms or blindfolds, just a deep, uninterrupted rest that left me waking up feeling lighter than I had in a while. I stretched against the sheets and let myself enjoy the quiet for a moment before reaching for my phone on the nightstand, mostly out of habit more than need. The screen lit up with a number I didn't recognize.I stared at it for a second, debating whether to ignore it the way I usually did with unknown numbers. But something about the timing — this early, this deliberate — made me pick it up instead."Hello?""Amy."The voice hit me before the name did. That particular way he said it, drawn out just slightly, like he still had the right to say it with any kind of familiarity. My stomach dropped straight to the floor."Jeremy." I sat up fully now, gripping the phone tighter than necessary. "What do you want?""Is that any w
JEREMY POV The day I waited for had come. It was the next morning. The same day Ravenna and I had planned to meet. The time was this morning, not afternoon or evening as it should have been. Luckily for me, it was her off day. Nature kept smiling on me. “I'm off to see the woman I told you about.” An announcement was made to Silvio at the dining table when he joined me. “Good morning, Silvio. I didn't want to wake you up after the running around yesterday. I would have had no choice but to come into your room if you didn't come here before I was ready to leave the house.” “You're not disturbing me. You should know.” He was such a nice man. A man who loved Enzo so much and could pass for his brother. “Alright. We've fixed a time - two hours from now. And a place.” I showed him the address I chose and he nodded. “What do you think?” “I think it's perfect, Jeremy.” “That's what I thought.” I retrieved my phone and continued to eat. “Is there something you want me to know? Before
JEREMY POV After a long day at the hospital, we got ready. Ready to leave. Ravenna couldn't be reached. So I postponed the call till later when I got home. “Ready?” Silvio asked when he got back to the ward where I waited. “I'm done with the doctor.” That was good to hear. I got off the chair, stared at the man laying on the bed once more and was headed to the door. Something had crossed my mind a couple of times since I arrived the hospital with Silvio and was left alone with the man who was in a coma. What if - just what if I became the reason for his actual death and took over the peoperties? Just what if? I wondered. But I didn't want to think too much about it. Not when there were many things to bother about. And especially when nothing will be in my favour if the man died. Cause of death will be investigated and if anything was suspicious, I couldn't take over the properties. We had reached the reception. The lady who let us in waved at us when she saw us. And now we wer
AMYStrange. Quite strange I hadn't heard from him since the thing happened. Why was that? That was a question only Jeremy could answer. My days have been going normally. Nothing special, at least for now. Antonio did his best to be there for me emotionally - and the truth was, I didn't need him to be there for me emotionally. I was alright - more than alright. “Good morning, ma'am.” I looked up from the bed where I lay. One of the maids had come to either clean my room or pass a message. “Good morning. How are you?” She walked further into the room. “Good morning—” She greeted again. “Sorry, ma'am. I tried knocking several times and didn't hear you let me in — so I walked in to be sure all was well.” She explained to me who nodded. “I came to let you know breakfast is ready, and it's time for me to clean your room.” What did I say? She came to deliver a news. “Oh. Alright.” I got off the bed in moments. “Antonio? Is he awake already?” “Yes, ma'am.” She sat on the bed. “He
JEREMY POVAlas. Who could have thought? I laughed, relaxed my back, and sipped the wine that was served to me by Enzo's maid. “This is good.” I mouthed to no one in particular. Way better than the nonsense I had been taking for a long time. Where the fuck was Silvio? Down the stairs, he came. There was a smile on his face. The kind that said he had won, maybe or not, but it was a satisfying smile and I could read it. “Look at you.” He hurried down the stairs and caught up with one of the chairs. “Thank you for coming.” He let out a sigh - maybe one that told me how relieved he was. “These are the documents. They align with everything you've told me about yourself; date of birth, town of growth, school, and everything I need to know to prove this truth. Thank you for coming, Jeremy.” Did he just thank me for coming? No, he didn't do that. “No, don't mention.” I sat up, dropped the glass, and continued. “I should be the one thanking you, not the other way round.” A soft chuckle e
Antonio's POVIt's been a week.I haven't seen her since then, so I couldn't bring myself to do so. Instead I've been switching hotels and calling Carlos every time I get the chance."No offense boss but if you're so worried about her why don't you just come here and see for yourself how she's doin
Antonio's POV "Ravenna..." I acknowledged her, she was an ambitious woman working her way up to becoming one of the first female captains in the La Familia Cardini, "I had some time of leisure and thought I'd make use of it here, problem?""Hardly..." She said and took another swing straight from
Amy's POVIn all honesty the man looked more good looking than his photograph had admitted. His features were defined and chiseled , carried himself with an easy charisma but there was something unnerving about the look in his eyes, current place my finger on it but he was so particularly odd there
Antonio's POV Finally sensing the blood loss behind me I pulled out from inside my pocket, aiming precisely at the rat that had shot earlier, two bullets Street to the heart and he was in lifeless corpse in an instant collapsed to the ground. The sound of bullets continues to zip and tear through
