Chapter 2

Autor: Drunken Dumpling
In the darkness, I forced a bitter smile.

No one knew that the person on stage, who was nestling in Jack's arms and trying to kill me, was my wife.

All I could do was watch helplessly. The woman who had hugged me that morning and swore she would give me everything I ever wanted repeatedly confessed her love for Jack in front of everyone.

The hyenas were getting dangerously close to my throat. In a daze, I thought I saw the Grim Reaper waving at me.

Just when I thought I was about to die, Jack's voice came from the audience.

"I changed my mind. I want to try something more interesting.

"Since he's going to die anyway, Honey, why don't we guess if his and his son's hearts are symmetrical?"

Jack's cruel voice blasted through the speakers and rang in my ears.

Camilla frowned. I thought she had remembered our promise.

For our child's heart separation surgery today, she had once traveled to the most famous church to pray.

She had prayed for our child and promised she would never break her vow when it came to him.

The rosary beads were still wrapped around her wrist, but she reached out and affectionately ruffled Jack's hair.

Her voice was sickeningly sweet.

"Fine. Whatever you want. As long as you're happy!"

Through the soaked hood, all the blood in my body turned cold.

When it came to Jack, Camilla really could abandon all her principles.

My son and I were soon dragged onto the operating table via thick ropes.

Jack sneered as he lifted the hood and spat on my face.

"Too bad. She didn't even recognize you, and she didn't keep her promise to you either!"

Seeing me stare at his shoes through the gap, Jack deliberately lifted his foot and kicked the operating table.

"Did you have a good look? Every gift you ever received, Camilla bought two of each! After you die, I'll be the only one left!

"You don't know this, do you? Every night she claimed she was on a business trip, she was actually playing romantic card games with me.

"When your father died on an operating table because there were no doctors available, my dog happened to get sick. She felt sorry for my dog and gathered every doctor to give it end-of-life care."

Every word felt like a stab to my heart.

In the end, the pain swallowed me completely.

Blood was gushing non-stop from the puncture wounds on my body.

The doctor lined up the scalpel over my chest but hesitated to slice through. He looked at Camilla, who was walking toward us.

"Ms. Fender, this is too dangerous. If anything goes wrong–"

A trace of hesitation flashed through Camilla's eyes. Jack suddenly cried out, "Honey, this jerk scratched me! What if he has some kind of disease? Hmph–"

Under Camilla's worried gaze, he put down his hand.

There were a few red scratch marks he had made on himself. There wasn't even any blood, but Camilla instantly lost her temper.

She slapped me hard across the face.

"How dare you hurt Jack? Proceed with the procedure. Don't use any anesthesia! I want to see how tough he really is!"

She stared at me coldly through the hood.

I looked at my three teeth that had fallen onto the ground. My heart sank.

Jack held Camilla in his arms. When nobody noticed, he looked at me with a cocky smile.

"Sorry, sir."

The doctor placed the anesthesia back onto the tray. He then said softly in a sympathetic voice, "Don't blame me. I'll finish as quickly as possible and try to make it hurt less."

The moment the cold scalpel went through, I felt an excruciating pain.

I couldn't hold back anymore and let out a horrifying scream. Through my endless cries of agony, the rosary beads around Camilla's wrist snapped off one by one.

She suddenly turned around and looked at me.

"W-Why does he sound so much like Frank?"

I struggled to look up. I lifted up my trembling hand to reach for the hem of Camilla's shirt, but Jack stepped forward with a shocked expression and stood between us.

"I can't believe it. He actually imitated Frank's voice just to seduce you!"

  • She Bet on My Death   Chapter 10

"Camilla, didn't the priest ever tell you that when you make too many unrealistic prayers, God won't hear them?"With every word I said, Camilla's face turned paler. Her back bent lower too.She then pulled a knife from under her clothes.I moved back instinctively.Instead, Camilla turned the handle toward me and placed it on my hand. Her eyes were bloodshot."I just want you to stop feeling angry. You can have the knife. Kill me. I won't complain at all!"She said those words, but there was no fear in her eyes.Seeing me loosely holding the knife, the certainty in her eyes grew stronger. She believed I would never do it.I didn't expose the truth, but I didn't show her any kindness either."Really? But why? Didn't you love Jack more than anything?"If I die, wouldn't he finally be able to become your husband openly?"My words were only a test, but she immediately raised her hand and swore in front of Jack."Frank, please believe me! I only wanted to experience something n

You monster!"The coldness in my eyes pierced Camilla deeply. Her eyes immediately filled with tears. In the past, whenever she acted pitiful, no matter what mistake she made, I would forgive her.But this time, even if she cried herself blind in front of me, I would never feel the slightest bit of pity again.Camilla dropped to her knees without hesitation. She crawled toward me on her knees. Ignoring my struggle, she grabbed my hand tightly."Frank, I was wrong. Please forgive me, okay? I've completely cut ties with Jack. From now on, I'll only love you for the rest of my life!"I know you're just angry right now. You hate me because I killed our son."I'll make it up to you. Trust me. I've really changed!"She cried until she couldn't speak. But the

Jack noticed that Camilla had become extremely busy recently. It felt like some kind of unavoidable fate.Camilla picked up the ring and stared at it for a long time. After a while, she finally spoke in a dazed whisper. "H-How could this be?"Jack sensed something was wrong. He reached out and grabbed her arm, but she pushed him away instantly. Then, as if she had finally accepted the truth, she stumbled toward me."Frank. Honey, is it really you?"How could this happen? You had so many chances, why didn't you say anything?"Camilla's eyes were filled with unbearable regret. She looked like she was about to bleed tears, but watching her only made me want to sneer. Why didn't I say anything? Then what was the hand gesture I desperately made? What did all those times I tried to grab her hand mean?I had used every bit of strength I had to tell her I was Frank, but what did I get in return?I had received threats and slaps that knocked out my teeth.Camilla clearly thought of the baby whose chest had been cut open. I might have died. The moment I closed my eyes, all the pain throughout my body disappeared.Drifting in a daze, I thought I could finally get a good rest, but then my body started floating upward uncontrollably. It wasn't until I found myself standing among the doctors with tearful eyes and looking down at the blood-covered person on the operating table that I realized I was probably dead.If the young nurse hadn't still been tightly holding the hand of the person on the operating table, I almost wouldn't have believed that person was me.In less than a day, the man who used to be obsessed with cleanliness had become someone who looked like he had been picked out of a garbage pile.My entire body was covered in blood and mud, and it gave off the sour stench of sweat.Countless wounds covered my body from head to toe.The scarred skin had turned an unnatural pale color. My mouth was filled with bits of cotton fluff. The young nurse was crying as she carefully pulled them out.
