The road passed by in a blur as the car sped down the road. Rain pelted the windshield, making it difficult to see the road ahead.

I slumped in my chair as uneasiness consumed me. "Mom, when are we going to get there?" I asked as I watched the trees sway in the wind. My mother turned in her chair and sent my father a quick glance before looking back at me.

"We'll be there in a few minutes, Kaelith," she assured me with her warm voice.

My parents took Darian, my best friend, and I to their meeting in a different pack located on the southern part of the coast. The pack was pretty nice. Darian and I had the opportunity to visit the beach with some of the other kids in the pack while the adults discussed. We built sand castles and swam in the ocean.

"There's someone on the road!" my dad exclaimed as he honked the horn, slamming on the brake pedal in the process. I looked up and saw a person standing not too far in front of the car.

The vehicle jerked forward, causing me to fly forward in my seat, but the seatbelt yanked me back into place. The strange, shadowy figure continued standing in front of the car, frozen in its spot. I couldn't see their faces because of the lack of sunlight and moonlight. The hood on their head created a shadow.

My dad honked the horn again but the person didn't move. It was like his feet were glued to the dirt road under him.

Turning the steering wheel, dad maneuvered the car around the person. As the car drove by, my eyes caught a glimpse of something shiny. I opened my mouth to shout, but it was too late.

My mother shrieked when the glass shattered as the arrow flew through the windshield and sunk into my dad's heaving chest. He cried out in pain as blood pooled out everywhere. His head lolled forward and he fell into the steering wheel, causing the car to swerve and increase in speed.

My mom screamed when she saw what happened and tried reaching for the wheel, but the sound of an arrow soaring through the air filled my pounding ears. It plunged into the side of my mom's head. The sound of her screaming caused bone-chilling goosebumps to crawl up my arms. Her wild, horror-filled, brown eyes stared back at me before rolling to the back of her skull as she slumped forward, red painting her face.

I could hear Darian cursing next to me as he cried. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I began to panic when I didn't know what to do. The guy was still behind us so Darian and I threw our bodies onto the floor of the car for protection. Darian and I stared at each other with wide, panicked eyes.

The car continued to race down the road, passing trees. "Are we going to die?" Darian cried out. I didn't answer. My parents were gone. Dead. And their lifeless bodies sat right in front of me. Now I had no one to take care of me.

'That's not true! You have me, Darian, and your whole pack!' my wolf tried to assure me.

I sobbed, burying my face into my knees. Why does the moon goddess hate me so much? Why is she punishing me? And what did I do to deserve this?

"Kae! What are we going to do?" Darian shouted at me as he peaked out of the back window. Rain poured into the car through the area where the windshield was supposed to be. Shattered glass scattered everywhere in the front, shimmering like glittering crystals.

Both of us looked around but we didn't know what to do. Then I looked straight ahead. My eyes widened when I saw the ending of the road. I quickly grabbed Darian's arm, tugging on it. He turned and saw it. Darian closed his eyes and started shouting prayers to the moon goddess.

Suddenly the car shifted away from the cliff. It was a miracle! "Oh thank the Moon goddess..." Darian mumbled. But before either one of us could blink, the car slammed into something big and hard and the both of us jolted forward, unprepared for the collision.

My head slammed into the middle console. Pain surged through my veins and colors splotched my vision. The last thing I remembered were the shouts and cries escaping Darian's mouth, and the blood painting my shaking fingers before I slipped unconscious.

Or so I thought it was the best sleep I've ever gotten. Unfortunately, nothing is ever perfect in this cruel world.I jolted awake when the door swung open, hitting the wall with a loud bang. Samantha and I quickly sat up in the bed, startled. A person stood at the door, huffing and puffing. "We need to go to the hospital now," Darian said, panic laced in his voice."What?" Samantha mumbled, rubbing her tired eyes as she released a yawn."Something happened to Malia. We've got to go!" Darian yelled before rushing out of the room. Samantha and I stared at each other with wide eyes for a couple of seconds. Next thing I knew, we were jumping out of bed, throwing on clothes, and following Darian to the car. Anthony wasn't with us, so I assumed he was already there. The car sped down the road to the hospital, taking no longer than five minutes. We jumped out of the car and ran inside to Malia's room.Policemen scattered the hallway and there was yellow tape blocking the door. Yells and an

  • Silent Alpha   Chapter Sixteen

Kae's POVLately Samantha has been acting weird. She's been sending me strange looks and she keeps staring at my arms. I don't understand why. Maybe something's bothering her..."Alpha," a voice said, bringing me back from my thoughts. I looked up at the door to my office. Ryland stood by the door with a worried expression on his face. I sat straighter in my chair. I nodded my head, motioning for him to proceed. He hesitated at first before opening his mouth, "Uh...Alpha Anthony..." he trailed off with a frown. I raised an eyebrow, urging him to continue. "There was a rogue attack. His mate..."I quickly stood up and rushed out of the room, Ryland following behind me. 'Darian,' I mind-linked, 'Get the car started.'It didn't take Darian long to reply, 'Yes, Alpha.' I quickly walked down the hall to my room where I grabbed a bag and shoved some clothes in it. Then I pulled my phone out and sent Samantha a text telling her to come home. She was hanging out with her new friend at the mal

  • Silent Alpha   Chapter Fifteen

Samantha's POVI didn't wait for him to answer. I just continued my journey up the stairs before going down the hallway towards my bedroom. I closed my door behind me and walked over to the bathroom. I closed the bathroom door and turned on the water for the shower.I got undressed, tossing my dirty clothes in the corner of the room. I stepped in the shower and sighed in content when the warm water pelted my skin. I ran my fingers through my hair before I grabbed the shampoo and massaged some into my scalp. Then I grabbed my purple loofah and squirted some vanilla scented body wash onto it. As I began cleaning my body, the sponge was taken out of my hand.My breathing stopped and I turned my head to look behind me, my eyes meeting a pair of dark ones. Slowly the sponge started rubbing against my back. Soap trailed down my back and legs as the water washed it away. My back was still facing him, blocking his view of anything but my ass. That didn't seem to bother him, though. He took a

  • Silent Alpha   Chapter Fourteen

Samantha's POVHoly shit. My body shot up in my bed, tingles shooting through my body. A thin sheet of sweat coated my skin and my breathing wasn't even. I pressed my hand to my chest and felt my heart beating erratically. What the hell just happened?I laid back, my head against the pillow, and I pressed the back of my hand to my forehead. I had the weirdest dream. I must be insane. Like who the hell dreams that? I tried evening my breathing out as I tried to stop thinking about my dream. As badly as I wanted it to happen, I knew it was going to be a while. Something tells me it'll take a while for my mate to open up to me like that. But the images of my mates scorching hot fingers grazing my skin and his hot breath hitting my neck and his soft lips on mine wouldn't leave my head. I guess that's one of the struggles of it being that time of the month.Fucking hormones. Thankfully it ends today. I rubbed my eyes before looking over at the clock sitting on the nightstand by

  • Silent Alpha   Chapter Thirteen

The sound of the door closing echoed loudly throughout the dark room. Chains rattled as the man moved slightly. My arms were crossed over my chest and Darian came and stood next to me, arms crossed as well. Our eyes were narrowed at the rogue hanging in front of us. Chains clung to his wrists and ankles, effectively keeping him in place. He stared at us with a hateful glare."If I wasn't chained up right now, you'd be dead," he threatened with a sadistic smile, "Your heart would be sitting right on the palm of my hand and then I'd give it to your mate as a gift.""Good luck with that," Darian shot back, "Once we're through with you, you'll wish you were never born." I nodded my head in agreement before I slowly stalked towards the prisoners."Now," Darian cracked his knuckles, "What should we do, Alpha?"'We'll try to get information from him and if he doesn't answer our questions, then we'll have to try something else,' I replied. Darian understood what I meant and started the interr

  • Silent Alpha   Chapter Twelve

The salty air blew against my face in the breeze. Seagulls called out to each other as they flew above everyone, peeking down in search of food. The boiling sun beamed from above, casting bright light and heat."I'm not used to this weather," Samantha muttered as she brought her hand above her face, trying to shade her eyes from the sun. I chuckled as she grumbled to herself. She rolled up the sleeves of her shirt up to her shoulders."It's so hot! I might as well walk around in my undergarments." I rolled my eyes at her, but didn't bother hiding the smile. I'm used to the heat, so it doesn't really bother me. But I can't blame them. She didn't pack the appropriate attire for this kind of weather, which is why we are going shopping. At the moment she was wearing a short-sleeved shirt, which, by the way, was the color black, and a pair of black pants that went down to her knees. Her auburn hair was twisted up into a bun on her head, so I could see the beads of sweat forming on her fore

"Are you sure you'll be fine?" Darian asked the tall man who stood at the front door of my house. His arms crossed over his plaid button up shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and watched Darian close the trunk of my car. He brushed his obsidian black hair away from his dark eyes. "I'm sur

  • Silent Alpha   Chapter Eight

"What are you going to do?" Darian asked as we sat in a living room. I sunk down into the couch with a frown. We were at Samantha's house. After cooling down a bit, I couldn't sleep. My wolf and I remained restless. Unconsciousness wouldn't take over, so I decided to go out for a run. My wolf needed to get let out. ( 12 years later )Dust particles filled the air when I slammed the large, heavy book closed. A stressful groan escaped my lips as I angrily shoved it back on the shelf with the other books. "Anything?" I heard Darian's voice from the other side of the library. I shook my head and continued rummagi
