Harper's POV

I turned away from the kitchen and picked up the new phone Klaus got me on our way back to Phoenix.

I had no lie about what happened to cause the screen to crack so badly, and Mom didn't doubt my excuse.

The phone buzzed against my palm, and I saw that Jace had responded, but with a middle finger.

I exhaled, shaking my head at his childish behavior before locking my phone and slipping it back into my pocket.

"Harper, can you grab the spoons for me?" Klaus called out from the

_ Harper's POV SATS is in fifteen weeks. I tried to concentrate on the books in front of me while waiting for Jace to finish his practice and go home together. The quarter-final match is coming up soon, and Jace has been spending his time with the team. After about an hour, I felt thirsty and hungry. Just as I was about to get up to get something, someone placed a muffin and sparkling soda in front of me. I looked up and was surprised to see Clive standing in front of me. “Hey.” I got up and wrapped my arms around him, excited and surprised to see him. “What are you doing here?” I asked him, looking around. Clive smiled. “Heard my cousin would be playing again, just came to show my support,” he said. He settled on the seat in front of me, and I sat back down, taking the food. “Thank you. This came at the right time,” I said and took a bite of the muffin. Clive smiled again. “I’m glad,” he said gently. I was about to take another bite when Jace appeared and looked stupe

_ Harper’s POV I felt a stir beside me and opened my eyes swiftly, turning my head to find Jace already awake. He was lying on his back, staring at the ceiling with a confused expression. The moment his eyes landed on me, his brows lifted in surprise. “Harper?” His voice was rough from sleep. I sat up, then folded my arms across my chest. “Good morning to you too.” His gaze moved around the room, then back to me. Confusion crossed his face. “What happened?” I stared at him. “You don’t remember?” He frowned, trying to search through his memories. I let out a small sigh. “You drank way too much last night.” His expression shifted slightly. “And as for the reason why we had to spend the night here, your crazy ex-girlfriend is responsible for that.” I reached for my phone on the bedside table and showed him the picture from last night which Reagan had posted. A guilty expression appeared on his face. He took the picture and stared at it. “Fuck,” he let out a grunt, pu

_ Gina’s POV “Ugh.” I gasped as he pushed me away again. My hand clutched in anger. Here I am, throwing myself at you, Jace Carter, but you keep pushing me away. I pushed closer again, not ready to give up tonight. This was my chance to get him back. “Jace, I’m sorry about everything,” I said and tried to steal a kiss again. I heard a click and turned to see one of the teammates taking a shot of us. “Sorry, you two look good together,” he said. A mischievous smirk crept onto my lips. “Send me that,” I told him and whipped my phone out. He didn’t refuse and shared the picture. My smile broadened as I posted the picture on my page. I put a hashtag on it and even shared the location so everyone at school could see it. I turned to the team who were chattering and carefully slipped a drug into one of the opened bottles. “Here,” I said to Jace. “Since you want to drink, drink.” He grabbed the bottle from my hand and took a little gulp. I bit my lip, hoping that was enough

_ Clive’s POV I switched off the television with rage boiling in my heart and slammed the remote on the table. The door burst open in that second, and Dan walked in, panicked. “You have to help me. I have been busted,” he said in a rush. I turned calmly to him. “Why should I help you? You failed our deal.” His face shifted swiftly. “What? You are the one who put me up to this,” he yelled. My hands clenched, my face deprived of any smile. I got up and walked to him. “Our deal was that you ruin Jace. But now, he’s back on the team and everyone loves him more,” I lashed out with much venom. I could tell my eyes were blazing murderously now. Dan fell back in fear, looking at me. “Since you failed, whatever deal we have is over,” I finalized and turned back to walk to my seat. “You think you can just get away with this?” he stuttered. “I would expose everything if you don’t pay me…” I clenched my hands, turning back to him. “You think anyone would believe you?” I managed a

_ Harper’s POV cont. Jace’s expression hardened, his body shook a bit, and I tried holding his hand to keep him calm. Just a little longer. I kept saying in my head. An arrogant, cocky smirk played on Dan’s lips as he let out those words. “How about if I tell the truth instead?” Jace suddenly said, changing the room's atmosphere. Dan’s smile faded slightly. “What truth?” his voice was hoarse. Jace stepped closer, his hands still balled into fists, making me afraid he might hit again, but he didn’t. “About how I am the victim, about how you bullied me,” his voice grew sharper. The room went into a stiff silence. “Tell them how you turned everyone against me because you couldn’t stand that I was better than you,” Jace continued. Dan stared at him, faltering a little now. “I’ve got proof.” A fearful expression settled on Dan’s face as his gaze couldn’t hold Jace’s anymore. “That’s a bluff. You’ve got nothing,” he almost stammered. My eyes sharpened slightly, realizing that

"You have been good students for the three years you have been with us, so I will be lenient with you." Principal Reid said, and I nodded slowly, grateful. "Um... would this affect my school record?" I asked, fretting. Principal Reid took a low breath. "You hit a fellow student and injured her nose," she said, and my breath became shaky. "So...?" I asked anxiously. She shrugged. "Even if the parents won't make a big deal out of it, you would serve detention at least." Oh no. "Will that be on my student record?" Principal Reid nodded. That was it. I am never going to be picked by Harvard. "And I am sure Reagan’s parents are going to make a big deal out of this. I can't help you, Harper," she affirmed. As I walked out slowly of the principal's office, Reagan was waiting to go in. She held her supposed broken nose, pretending to be in tears, and glared at me as I walked past. Right there, I didn't even care about her or her fake nose. _ After school, I sat down in the de
