LOGINChapter 5
Alice’s POV My muscles tensed, the pen feeling heavier than it should. I stared at the thick, high-quality paper before me, analyzing every single word. All it took was my signature and our bond would be sealed. My fingers shook, a bead of sweat forming on my forehead. “You’re hesitating," Klaus muttered, a flicker of something unknown crossing his features. “I’m thinking,” I replied, biting my lip. “No. You’re afraid.” My grip tightened on the pen. “I shouldn’t trust you.” “No, you shouldn’t,” he stated flatly. “But you need me.” My breath hitched. He was right. I lowered my pen, and finally signed the marriage certificate. “Now, you’re mine, Mrs Gambino,” he whispered, his hot breath against my ear. “Let’s go home.” I squeezed my eyes shut, a sharp pit in my stomach. A fortress-like house came into view, screaming power and outrageous wealth. An unsettling feeling rose in my chest as I looked at the black iron gate and surveillance-mapped walls. Walking in, the potent smell of cigarettes invaded my nostrils. My heels clicked against the marble floor, the sound echoing. Everything here felt too big. Too quiet. As if I was being watched. “Mrs Gambino, sit,” Klaus ordered, his low voice having a sharp edge to it. “My name is Alice,” I spat, sitting on a soft black sofa. “Alice,” he repeated. I hated the fact I loved the way he said it. It sounded sweet and…intimate. Before I could say a word, the door swung open. “Boss. Here’s the traitor,” a big, bulky man said, bowing his head in reverence as he dragged a man covered in blood and scars. Klaus turned, facing them. Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room dropped, cold radiating from him. I shivered, chills trickling against my skin. “You thought you could run,” he chuckled, his gaze locked on the man. “Forgetting you made a deal with the devil.” “Please. I’m sorry,” the man said, his teeth chattering with fear. “I…I never wanted to back out of the agreement.” “Yet. You did,” Klaus replied, his expression unfazed. He was calm…too calm as he played with a pistol. “Now, you pay the price.” With that, he lifted the gun, the bullet piercing through the man’s head. The man fell to the ground, blood running from his temple. A heavy, dead silence descended. I froze, my breath caught in my throat. The sound of the gunshot replayed in my head as my ears rang. “Clean it up,” Klaus said, as if discussing the weather. When I turned, he was already watching me. His gaze, intense and unblinking like a predator. The room felt hot, and I couldn’t help but fan my flushed face with my hands. “What’s wrong, Alice?” he asked, an amused smile playing on his lips. “Feeling uncomfortable?” “No…I-I’m fine,” I stammered, digging my nails into the sofa. “Are you sure?” He asked, his tone gentle, scaring me more. “You don’t look too good.” “Where’s the restroom?” With a snap of his hand, a maid arrived. “This is Hannah. She’ll attend to all your needs,” he gestured, his gaze never leaving me. “And Hannah, this is the new madam of the Gambino family. You have to treat her with respect and loyalty. Or else.” He paused, leaning in. “You know what happens.” “Yes, sir” Hannah replied fast, her legs shaking. She bowed before turning to me. “Please, ma’am. Follow me.” I stood up, about to follow Hannah but a grip on my arm forced me to stop. “And Alice, have a wonderful evening,”he said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Ye-yes, sir.” “Sir?” He repeated. “I’m your husband.” The word “Husband” made my stomach twist, the truth of my situation sinking in. “Goodbye, Klaus.” “Try again. I want something…sweet. Pleasant to the ears.” “Have a nice day, dar…darling,” I managed to say, the words leaving a bitter taste on my tongue. “Much better. I’ll see you soon…in the bedroom,” he finished, a smirk playing on his lips. I froze, clenching my fists. Then, I walked away hurriedly. Only one question rang in my head: what the hell did I get myself into. Hannah took me to a room that was extremely big. A delicate crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting warm light. A king-sized bed was placed in the middle, adorned with a plush, layered bedding and Egyptian cotton pillows. It was painted purple, my favorite color. “Did he know? Or was it just a coincidence?” I asked myself. Opening the wardrobe, I gasped. New season luxurious clothes and bags stared back at me. With a bow, Hannah left, leaving me alone. I sat on the bed, staring at the ceiling. “Did I make a mistake?” I sighed. My gaze fell on the newspaper on the table. I picked it up, and my breath hitched. It was a picture of my obituary. My head throbbed, feeling heavy. My fingers tightened around the paper. Grabbing the phone beside me, I immediately went online. The report was everywhere. Alice…dead. Killed by a group of armed robbers. Suspects arrested. It was too clean. I was easily erased. I hadn't even recovered from the shock before I saw something else that sent a jolt of electricity through me. It was a post. “I’m so delighted the two love birds Michael and Victoria are finally getting married next week!” Someone tweeted. “It’s going to be the wedding of the century.” “Are we all going to pretend he wasn’t engaged to Alice? How could he move on so fast?” The world tilted. I bit my lips, my nails digging into my skin. Then, something in me shifted. Something cold. Deadly. A slow smile formed on my lips. “Guess I have a wedding to attend.”Victoria’s POV My life came crumbling down after the gala event. Michael had refused to speak to me. My friends avoided me like a plague and worse, I was all over the internet. The headlines only made the frown on my face deepen. VICTORIA STERLING BECOMES THE LAUGHINGSTOCK OF THE NIGHT STERLING HEIRESS MAKES A FOOL OF HERSELF AT THE CHARITY GALA VICTORIA GALA DISASTER YOUNG HEIRESS FACES HUMILIATION THAT LEFT GUESTS SPEECHLESS The comments were even worse. “Is she on drugs?” “Poor Michael. Other suitors who had wanted to marry her truly dodged a bullet.” “Top socialite? What a joke!” “I knew her perfect image was fake.” “Guys, I heard she even hugged a male waiter in front of everyone.” I dug my nails into my skin, but it didn’t ease my fury. My eyes were locked on the screen, my grip tightening around my phone. There was even a new harsh tag that was circulating. #BANN VICTORIA FROM SOCAL EVENTS Anger surged within me, my body shaking uncontrollably.
Alice’s POV It’s been two days since I last saw Klaus. I didn’t want to see him. So I had locked myself inside my room. Memories of how he had discarded my food without even giving it a try, replayed in my mind like an endless tune. The way he had supported Diana without a second thought, without considering how I’ll feel or about the effort I had put into it. I clenched my fist inside my sleeve. “I’m done trying,” I muttered under my breath. Maybe it was time I stick with the marriage arrangements, after all, falling in love was never part of the deal. A knock on the door snapped me out of my thoughts. It was probably Hannah. I’m sure she wants to give me my breakfast. But right now, I wasn’t in the mood. “Hannah, come back later.” But the knock on the door didn’t stop, instead it increased. With gritted teeth, I reluctantly stood up, feeling annoyed. Opening the door, it wasn’t Hannah, instead it was Klaus. The moment I set my eyes on him, my heart skipped. Damn
Alice’s POV“You’re…back,” Klaus said.“Of course!” She exclaimed. “I wouldn’t miss your birthday for anything.”Klaus laughed. Not the usual low or cold one, an actual laughter. The sound made my chest squeeze painfully. Diana stood up, revealing her perfect hour glass shape. “Did you like my gift?”The smile on his face deepened. “No I didn’t like it,” Klaus replied. “I loved it.”My nails dug into my skin, trying to ease the ache. They interacted naturally, like they had known themselves forever. For once in my life, Klaus actually seemed like a normal person. He wasn’t the cold CEO, neither was he the man everyone feared. He was just…warm, unusually warm towards her. Klaus didn’t even glance at me, completely occupied in his conversation with Diana. I felt invisible, completely ignored. Then, Diana’s gaze shifted to me. I could swear I saw something flicker in her green eyes, but it vanished so fast that I thought maybe I had imagined it. “So it’s true,” she muttered. “Klau
Alice’s POV Klaus kept staring at the toy and smiling. The more I looked at him, the more my chest ached. “So today’s your brithday?” He finally tore his gaze from the toy, his eyes meeting mine. “Yeah.” “Will you celebrate it?” Klaus shrugged. “Alice, it’s not a national holiday. It’s just like every other day.” “No it’s not,” I said. “Why will you even say that? Everyone deserves to feel special on days like this.” Silence. He looked at me, a flicker of emotion flashing in his eyes. What can I gift him? He has money, and any luxurious thing I can think about. Alice, think. This is even harder than I thought. Suddenly, an idea popped in my head. I stood up from the dinning table. “Well, that changes from today.” He lifted his head. “What do you mean?” “Get up.” Klaus raised his brows. “Excuse me?” “You heard me clearly.” “Since when did you start ordering me around?” I sighed. “Please get up, Klaus.” He narrowed his eyes. “That’s too formal.”
Alice’s POVThe ride back home was peaceful. The atmosphere even seemed a bit…romantic. I couldn’t help but steal glances at Klaus. He looked even more handsome and charming today. His dark brown hair that was a bit messy from exhaustion fell on one side of his face, adding more allure to him. My heart pounded fast in my chest as I stared at him. “What?” He asked. “Is there something on my face?”My face burned. “No…nothing.”“Or you’ve finally realized your husband is the most handsome man alive. Huh?”I rolled my eyes.“Pfff. Dream on.”“Wait, so you mean you’ve actually seen a better good looking man than me?”I didn’t reply because I couldn’t. If I told him the truth, it would fuel his ego. “Tell me,” he said, coming closer.“Don’t tell me it’s Michael,” he laughed. “Even a blind woman can see he’s not at my level.”“Michael isn’t the only handsome man I know, okay.”“So tell me, who’s the man able to catch your eyes?”A smile formed on my lips as I folded my arms. “I won’t tel
Alice’s POV The moment her gaze landed on Klaus, she smiled brightly as if she had just won a lottery. “Good morning Mr Gambino,” she said sweetly, her gaze lingering for too long. Klaus didn’t even glance at her. Instead, he turned to one of the employees. “Adjourn the 10 am meeting to 11. I have other matters to attend to.”“Yes Sir.”The smile on her face froze. She cleared her throat, flinging her black wavy hair. “Mr Gambino, I’ve prepared the account reports you requested for.”Still nothing. Klaus didn’t even bother to look at her direction. “Good,” he said flatly. She blinked, her fingers tightening around the document she was holding.“Alice, come,” Klaus whispered softly, as he guided me forward with his hand on my back. Her face flushed with embarrassment. For a moment, I almost felt bad for her. Then, she glared at me. “I didn’t know Mr Gambino was bringing guests today.”Silence. My brows rose. Before I could say a word, Klaus finally looked at her. The temperatur
Michael’s POV“Damn it!” Margaret yelled, throwing her phone against the wall. Her body shook intensively with uncontrolled anger. “Mum?” I called. “What’s wrong?”She turned towards me, her chest heaving. “They failed,” she growled. “Those good for nothing motherfuckers failed.”My brows furrowed
It’s been three days.Three days and I hadn’t set my eyes on Klaus. I came every day to his door, knocking. But the door never opened. It was as if he was avoiding me.Was it because we almost….?Slowly, I walked downstairs to get breakfast. Then I saw him. Klaus. He was sitting majestically, wea
Alice’s POVMy gaze was fixed intensively on the screen. A blush crept to my face.“Klaus was…defending me,” I muttered under my breath. If he didn’t care, why would he do this?“Anyone who defames my wife, will hear from my lawyer.”My grip tightened around the phone. Warmth spread through my ches
Victoria’s POVI paced around the room. “C’mon Michael. Pick up the damn phone.”Why wasn’t he picking? This was the twentieth time I had called. Yet, nothing. Then, it no longer rang, instead, it became switched off.“Fuck!” I yelled, dragging fingers through my hair. What could have happened?
