Mag-log inI laid in my bed. My alarm had rung almost an hour ago. I wasn't ready to leave my bed Suddenly, everything that had happened yesterday slapped me in the face.
I'm getting married.
Tonight is the ball. That's when the engagement will be announced. I will be forced to hang off his arm the whole night, pretending to be happy and willing as people congratulate us.
It can't happen.
Maybe if I run away, I'll be safe. The one downside to that is that my dad could think I've been kidnapped. A war might start between the mafias because of that.
"Are you awake?," Sara , my sister said as she peaked her head in through my door. I sat up and ran a hand across my face.
"I've been awake all night," I scoffed out.
"You have to avoid this ball," she stressed.
"You don't think I know that? Even if I try to dad will find a way to get me there."
"I have a plan."I thought Sara’s plan would be stupid but as she told me, I realised it could actually work. You'll find the plan out once it's in motion. I can't risk anyone else finding out about it.
I stood in front of the floor length mirror staring at someone I didn't recognise. My hair was curled and neatly pinned up. My face was caked in makeup but it looked beautiful. The floor length gown hugged all my curves. All in all, I looked like a doll. The only problem was that my eyes weren't shining in happiness like usual. I looked like I was on the brink of tears and that I was.
"You look absolutely stunning," my dad said with a small smile on his face as he walked into my room. I glanced towards him before looking back at the mirror. "The engagement ring." I watched him through the mirror as he pulled out a velvet box.
Inside it was a beautiful white diamond ring.
The diamond was in the shape of an emerald.
When I didn't reach out for it like he thought I would, he placed it on my nightstand.
"Why?," I simply asked. He looked at me confused. "Why am I being sentenced to a life with him?"
"He's good for you," he answered confidently.
"It's business, isn't it?," I asked.
He stayed silent."You've known for a while, haven't you?"
Once again, he stayed silent."I demand an answer," I said calmly.
"Yes," he said, not able to look me in the eye as I turned to face him.
"How long?" A wedding as big as the one I'm having can't be planned in a week. We have thousands of people attending. "I said, how long?"
"A year," he breathed out. A year? A fucking year?
"Get out," I ordered. I didn't want to see him.
After what I've just heard, he's nothing to me.
Silently, he turned and left.
I was more than determined now to make sure this plan works.
After an awkward and silent car ride, we finally arrived. The building looked elegant and sophisticated just like the ball. The ball always took place every year in the same building because it isn't on anyone's side of the city or country. It's neutral ground.
"Behave," my dad warned me. I ignored him and got out of the car. Sara stood beside me. She normally never comes to these because she's so young. My mom, my brother, Rose, her mom and dad, Stephan and his parents pooled out of the limo.
Sara squeezed my hand. We walked inside and all eyes snapped towards us.
Adrian could be in this crowd. Have I mentioned that I have no idea what he even looks like? I tend to stay to myself at these events.
"I need to go to the restroom," I mumbled to no one in particular, giving Sara a hint that the plan is starting. I broke away from the rest and found the nearest restroom. I quickly locked the door and ran to the huge window. I tried to unlock it. Why won't it unlock? I stood there trying to move the rusted lock for at least five minutes.
By now, someone was banging on the door. The lock clicked. Bingo! I pushed it open. I sat on the ledge and threw my legs over. A loud bang made me look over at the door. It was on the ground. I jumped without thinking and ran towards the woods near us.
Suddenly, I was pushed into the ground.
Whoever pushed me gripped my upper arm and pulled me to my feet. I tried to pull my arm away but it was no use. "Stupid girl!," my father yelled. Before I knew it a sharp stinging sensation spread across my cheek.
Did he just..?
I think he did.
He fucking slapped me.
This is not the father that I knew. He used to check on me every night. He used to kiss my head. He never ever hit me. I looked up at him to see the fire in his eyes.
He was still angry. He dragged me back to the building through the bathroom window.
"Clean yourself up!," he barked at me and handed me a paper. Shakily, I cleaned myself up the best I could. He threw the velvet box in my hands.
Slowly, I opened it and pushed the ring onto my finger.
He pulled my arm and pushed me out of the restroom. My eyes instantly locked with Sara’s .
Her plan was good but I should've known that I'd never get away. She looked at me sadly before glancing at the ground.
Suddenly, a body blocked my view of her.I looked up to see a man. He was utterly beautiful like he was personally handcrafted by a god.
Tattoos peaked out from his dress shirt collar on his neck. His piercing brown eyes ignored me and stared at my father. His sharp jawline could easily cut my finger if I touched it.
All in all, he was perfect.
"What!," he snapped at me, glaring.
Scratch that, he is not perfect.
"Hasn't anyone-," I began to say loudly.
My dad quickly silenced me.
"Lili , this is Adrian Smith, your fiancé."
Fuck.
Daphne’s PoVThe diamond sparkled beneath the bedroom light. It was beautiful….Cold….Lifeless.Exactly like the man kneeling in front of me.“I’ll give you a moment,” Stephan said softly. His smile never faltered.“I know this is unexpected.”Unexpected? My entire body wanted to scream.Instead, I forced myself to breathe. The woman behind the wall had been right.Tomorrow…Everything happened tomorrow. If I refused…Would he force me?If I accepted…Would it buy me time? The answer came almost immediately.Time.I needed time….More than pride….More than anger….More than anything.I slowly looked from the ring to Stephan.“…If I say no?”His smile stayed exactly the same.Only his eyes changed. They became empty…..Dangerously empty.“I’d be disappointed.”The words were gentle….The meaning wasn’t.“And if I still refuse?”He stood.Slowly.Closing the velvet box.“You won’t.”“I asked what would happen.”He walked closer.Close enough for me to smell his expensive cologne. His fingers bru
Daphne’s PoVI read the note again…..And again….And again.Don’t trust Stephan. We’re watching. Wait for my signal. My fingers trembled so violently that the paper nearly slipped from my hand.Someone had left this.Someone had somehow entered my room without Stephan noticing.Or…Had they distracted him?The knock. The man downstairs.Had that been planned?I hurried to the broken breakfast tray and looked around for anything else.Nothing.No second note.No clue.Just shattered porcelain and syrup dripping slowly down the wall.I folded the note into the sleeve of my hospital sweater just as footsteps echoed outside.Someone was standing by my door.I held my breath. The handle rattled once. Then silence.Whoever it was… walked away.I didn’t move for another minute. My pulse was still racing.Someone was here.Someone knew I existed. And someone wanted Stephan to fail.Hours crawled by.The afternoon sunlight shifted across the bedroom floor. No one came….No food….No Stephan….Nothing.
Daphne’s PoVI didn’t sleep. Not even for a second.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Sebastian. Then I saw the crash. Then Stephan’s face. Then one word echoed over and over again.Pregnant.I sat curled up in the corner of the room, my knees pulled tightly against my chest. If he was lying…Then good.If he wasn’t…I instinctively rested a hand against my stomach.“I’ll get you out,” I whispered so quietly I barely heard myself. “I don’t know how… but I will.”A knock sounded outside.Three slow knocks. Then the door unlocked.Stephan stepped inside carrying a breakfast tray.Pancakes.Fruit.Orange juice. He smiled as though yesterday hadn’t happened.“As long as you’re carrying my family, you need to eat.”I nearly laughed.“My family?” I asked.“Our family.”“It’s Sebastian’s child.”His jaw clenched.“I said eat.”“I’m not hungry.”“You are.”“No.”His smile slowly disappeared.“You’ll hurt the baby.”“Then let me leave.”“No.”“Then stop pretending you care.”His eyes darkened
Daphne’s PoVJust over a month laterIt's been just over a month since the crash and I'm still being kept hostage by Stephan . I'm still in the hospital but everyday he comes by and stays for an hour or two before leaving."She's not ready yet," I heard Stephan say loudly from outside my door. Clearly, he was on the phone to someone. He stayed silent for a while as the other person spoke. "I'll let you know when she's ready. And when I tell you that the plan needs to start. We'll be on the first flight out once the date has been set.He stayed silent before cutting the call. He's clearly talking about me but what plan is he talking about? Where even am I? Why do we need to get on a damn plane to get there?Without a word, he pushed the door open and entered. He came towards the bed and quickly leaned down to give me a peck. With my fast reflexes, I managed to dodge his lips just in time."What was that?," he asked, sounding offended."Stephan, we are family. I've told you that countl
Daphne’s POVMy head throbbed. I slowly opened my eyes before closing them again. The sunlight burning them harshly. The smell of disinfectant made it almost hard to breathe. The beeping noise next to my head gave me a headache as it seemed to get louder and louder. Finally, I managed to open my eyes. I glanced around the room.An IV was in my arm as I was hooked up to something. Wires upon wires came out of my nightgown connecting to a machine. I was in an empty hospital room. Before I even moved, the door pushed open and a doctor walked in.He checked my heartbeat and all the other random stuff they do before giving me a cup of water and leaving. Just as he left another person entered. I drank the whole cup of water like it was a shot before slamming it down. I licked my cracked lips, feeling the need for some chapstick. My eyes widened in shock. "You miss me?,"Stephan asked with a smile on his face. He was acting like everything was normal."Where've you been this whole time?," I
"Twins?," I questioned. She nodded her head."I told my parents," she said. "They were pissed.I mean, who wouldn't be? I'm 18 and I'm pregnant.""But they're okay now, right?""Yeah. I guess they have to be now. Because of the whole Stephan thing, they think I might end up being a target so they're sending me to Italy. That way I'll be kept out of harms way. I just need to tell Lucas before I go.""That's good. You'll be safe there.""Should I call him now? I'd rather not meet up with him. I'd probably end up crying." I shrugged my shoulders, telling her it's up to her."If you want to." She grabbed her phone and put it on loud speaker wanting me to hear it. It rang for a couple of seconds before he answered it."Rose ," he breathed out through the phone. "I've been waiting for your call.""Lucas , listen, I went to the doctor and I'm four months pregnant," she said, cutting to the chase."Four?, "he questioned. "So you're keeping it?""Yeah, don't sound too excited about it," she
Now that we were both fully clothed, we were now panicking. "I'm not on birth control," I said as I paced back and forth."Can you not take it now?," he asked."Morning after pill, yeah. But not birth control ones.""Take it then!," he said.I narrowed my eyes at him. "Do you not think I would if I
"We are not doing it in the shower again," I laughed as he got under the boiling hot water. "I didn't even get to finish my shower last night because of you.""Fuck!," he cussed. "Are you trying to burn me?" I shrugged my shoulders and turned down the temperature for the big baby.Without a word, I
"Hurry up!," I yelled from the living room."Shut the fuck up!," I heard Rose yell back. I muffled my laugh. She's like this every day because we train at 5am. My dad has us on a strict training program."GET YOUR ASSES UP BEFORE I THROW A BUCKET OF FREEZING WATER ON YOU!," I screamed loudly. Seco
The crowd roared for blood as I heard them scream. I spat out blood on the hard ground before I looked at the crowd. Finally, the referee let go of my arm allowing me to leave the ring. I quickly glanced at my opponent who was sat on the ground covered in blood. Yikes."Good job!," my boss, Max, p
