LOGINSorrel’s POV“Well there go our belongings,” I said, “We’d better get going.”Although the last thing on my mind was walking through the throng of pups and wolves in the area. The previous encounter sent chills down my spine.Taking a deep breath, I mentally prepared myself to be dragged as we approached the centre of Gutters, however, a cry broke out amongst the wolves in the area and suddenly there was a chase.Thick, brown dust rose in the area, a wolf boy crashed into a table market and fell. He got up immediately and continued running. Some older boys chased after him.The boy with whatever—I saw it then—our satchel. He was the one who snatched it from Kaine, along with the sash around his waist. He wasn’t alone, a girl was beside him, trying to hold his chasers away. She grabbed whatever was in her sight and hurled it at them. Whatever came into sight.Fruits, bread, planks. She also pushed a cart to the road, the older boys jumped over it like it was nothing and ran after them.
Sorrel’s POVI was lost for words. We exchanged a heated glare—no I glared at him while he just leveled a stare at me.Then I chuckled, “You think that will keep me away?”“Sorrel….”“I’m going to be everywhere you look, I’m going to invade your privacy till I’m all you think about, dream about and you’ll not be able to get me out of your holy mind. Trust me!”With that, I whirled around and continued down the dirty path.He caught up with me sooner and didn’t breathe a word to me. He walked silently beside me and even if I tried to hasten my step and leave him behind, he ended up catching up every time without even trying.I stumbled to a stop as a heated stench from nowhere suddenly hit me squarely on the face. The impact was so intense that it sent me back. I wasn’t the only one who noticed it, Kaine did as wellLooking to my side, I saw why.Gutters.The area was poorly taken care of. It was dirty and the waters in the gutters weren’t moving. The smell coupled with the heat of th
Sorrel’s POVThe madness in this pack was about to drive me insane.Nothing was as it was. I knew better whom to look at for all the problems, some of them. But not all.Nathaniel was the beginning and the end of everything.Or maybe right at the centre of it.And I couldn’t tell Kaine that because that would be me endangering his life. However he had started asking questions? I don’t know what he aimed to derive from this quest he had suddenly taken upon himself, but I wouldn’t say anything. Not when I knew the true depth of danger he could be in.“Sorrel,” he called my name and I snapped out of my head.“Yes, right.” I faced the guard we were currently questioning.“Were can we find the guard’s mother, the old lady that was sick and in the Alpha’s office?”The guard’s eyes widened. “In the town’s square by the gutters,” he looked from me to Kaine.“Why do you need to talk with her?”“We have questions about the—““To heal her,” I quickly said, cutting Kaine off. “She’s sick, has a
Sorrel’s POVNathaniel left the room and I instantly stood up. Same old thing, I didn't even fight it anymore, it was just better to lie there and let him do what he wanted.I was excited for something though. Kaine. He would be here any moment from now. I quickly showered and was putting on my dress when Poppy walked in.“Let me,” she said, helping me lace the corset. She stopped halfway and stared at my neck. Starstruck. “Did someone strangle you?”Her eyes met mine in the mirror. I held my breath, staring at her as well.I forgot to lock my door. I forgot that Nathaniel had been here all along, since I was trying to catch up with Kaine.I hadn’t thought about the fact that he had choked me even if I weren’t struggling.Tears pooled in my eyes. Sometimes I forgot my predicament, I forgot the pain I was subjected to everyday. I tried not to focus on it. Pushing it away made me forget what sort of hell I’d been put through.“Nothing,” I said, my voice betraying me.It was all croaky
Oracle’s POV“Are you sure the girl is the only way to discover what is going on?” I asked Maximus, my doubts in this ally made known. In the past, I would never have dared question the order of Oracle Maximus. He was the one who trained me. The moon goddess and all the gods were especially fond of him. He led an exemplary life, besting the other oracle before him and I was honored to have been trained under his doctrine. Under the best. However, the girl with hair as snow was a problem. “Yes.” He confirmed, walking around in his white garment.“Fear as I might about sending you to her, she is the only means to uncover the evil in the pack.”“When the girl died, I felt a positive energy from the Luna beside you.” His eyes shut as he came to a decision. “She is the only way.”“Very well.” My head inclined in respect.“You have to find out what has gone wrong in the pack. The Halls are all worried. They have never seen anything like this before. The darkness rooted in the pack is big.
Sorrel’s POVI turned into a hot puddle inside as she watched me. Her eyes were intense, pinned on my form.I opened my mouth to answer, and when I did, I was grateful that my mother had taught me all those years how to be a graceful liar.“How should I know?” I began, my heart lurched in my throat. “He’s the oracle and he’s been put in charge of my health. They want me healthy to bear your precious brother’s heir so it looks to me that he’s just doing his job.”She was quiet for a long time, considering my lie. I tried not to panic and give myself away, but the more she stared at me, the more my palms became sweaty. Finally, she let out a groan. “I suppose you are right. I was just angry that he had never considered me once and quickly he’s standing up for you.”I don’t know why I lied to her about me and Kaine’s bond, but I felt like I should. It would not only put me in danger but also Kaine if more pack members knew.Especially Nathaniel.A tremor raced through me with the thought
Sorrel’s POVMy stomach twisted into knots with every step he took forward. Fear shot through me even as I remained still. There was nothing I could say, nothing to do. Because I knew what was going to happen I hadn't bothered to think of a lie.“You make a business of trying me, Luna.” He said, t
Sorrel’s povMy body was on fire. For two days after the rejection, it felt like I would combust into tiny pieces of flesh, but I didn’t and some part of me wished I’d do.Today I was accepting my fate.I was Luna to the Wolffang pack and I was married to Alpha Nathaniel whether I liked it or not.
Sorrel’s pov“Who’s your mate?“ Nathaniel asked the moment we were in our room. He was furious, ready to burn me to the ground with his stare. He was never going to love me, even after 6 months of courtship to sell this lie.“Answer me!” He barked and I flinched.“No one!” I blurted out. I don’t kn
Sorrel’s povNo…no…noI stumbled back, hands on the wall as I tried to find my way back to my fitting room. Noise hummed in my head and their moans floated at the back of my mind.*It’s normal. It’s okay after all this is all just formalities* I told myself repeatedly as I crept down the cold hallw
