LOGINDaisy Brown has one rule about Dexter Hart, stay away from him. He is her best friend’s older brother, a shameless rake who collects women and leaves them without a second thought. Easy enough to avoid. Until a tipsy night during her staycation at Ivy’s apartment lands her in his bed and turns everything upside down. She calls it a mistake. He calls it a beginning. Dexter doesn’t do commitment. He watched his parents’ marriage collapse and decided love was a losing game. But Daisy is different and that terrifies him more than he will ever admit. Now they are living under the same roof, pretending nothing happened, while everything crackles between them. With Casper King steady, warm, and openly pursuing Daisy threatening to make Dexter’s decision for him, and Lily Andrews, Dexter’s scheming ex, working quietly in the background to burn it all down, the pressure builds until something has to give. Daisy walks away first. And for the first time in his life, Dexter Hart chases someone. Some mistakes are worth making twice.

"We did it Essi we are out of that joint it felt like a four-year prison sentence." Kimani said jumping up and down on my bed like she was a 6-year-old. "Would you get the hell off my bed before you break it I got to take this bed to my new apartment at the end of the month." I said looking at her like I'm her mother instead of her best friend, smirking. "Girl relax this bed is supposed to be able to withstand a good pounding." Kimani said laughing. "Well, my bed is still a virgin and I don't want her first time to be with you jumping like a crazy person." I said laughing."Well shit, you're a virgin so it looks like your bed will get some before you do." Kimani said laughing and dodging the pillow that I threw at her. "So, are you ready for Tampa, we leave in a few weeks?" Kimani asked sitting next to me on my bed. We were leaving at the end of June, so we can learn our way around Florida and get accustomed to the new environment. Plus, I can get my apartment ready and start work before school starts so it won't be too much pressure trying to do all that stuff and start school at the same time. "Yeah I'm, ready you know I like to prepare and plan things beforehand, so it won't be too overwhelming, and you will be with me until the dorms open up." I said thinking about how our life was about to change. That was something that I didn't do well but I deal with it by planning and organizing things in advance, so it won't stress me out and I can keep everything under control.
"Yeah me too, I'm so ready to see what Florida has to offer. I know the guys are going to be sexy and fine. We have a whole month to see what Florida will be like and I can't wait." Kimani said smiling, excitedly, and probably daydreaming about all the men she will be seeing. As for me, not so much, I don't get the same attention that she does. Although we are both plus size girls, Kymoni has all her weight in the right places to make her look sexy. Most guys would call her thick, but as for me, all my weight was in the wrong places.
Don't get me wrong I'm not insecure or lack confidence but I do understand the reality that I'm not most guys cup of tea, and I'm cool with that But most of the time when a guy acts like he's interested in me he tend to think I'm easy and have low self-esteem and feel like if they spend a little time with me that they can fuck but I shut that down real fast. So here I am still a virgin because I refuse to let Pretty meaningless words fool me into having sex with the wrong person. But who knows maybe Florida dudes were different, I guess we're about to find out.
DEXTER’S POVIvy’s door had been closed for twenty minutes before I started talking.I needed to know she was actually asleep and not sitting on the other side of it with her ear pressed to the wall, which was not beyond her. I had known my sister her whole life. I knew exactly what she was capable of when she felt like something important was happening in the apartment without her.But the light under her door had gone off. The sounds from her room had gone quiet. And Daisy was sitting beside me on the couch in the particular stillness of someone who had said okay and meant it and was waiting without making the waiting feel like pressure. She was good at that.I sat with my elbows on my knees and looked at the coffee table and tried to find the right place to start. There was no right place. I knew that from the previous conversations, the version I had told on the couch weeks ago, the pieces I had given her in the kitchen, the fragments she had assembled from Ivy and from what she
DAISY’S POV The last guest left at midnight. Not dramatically, the party wined down the way good parties wined down, gradually and warmly, people collecting coats and saying goodnight and promising things they may or may not follow up on. By eleven forty five it was just the three of us and a room that looked like a party had happened in it.We cleaned up.That was the thing, nobody suggested it, nobody assigned roles, we just moved into the apartment the way we had learned to move through it together. Dexter collected glasses. I wiped down the counter. Ivy stacked things by the sink with the quiet efficiency of someone who cleaned when they needed to do something with their hands.Nobody spoke much. Not in the way of an awkward silence, in the way of people who had been through something together and were in the particular quiet that came after something that had required a lot of them. The music was off. The party energy had gone with the last guest and what remained was the apartm
IVY’S POV I saw Lily’s face when she came back from the balcony. She moved through the party the way she always moved through rooms, warm, easy, the particular grace of someone who had practised being comfortable in social spaces until it had become second nature. She stopped at the kitchen counter. She picked up her glass. She said something to the person beside her that made them smile. And around the corners of her mouth, in the specific place where people held things they were not showing, there was a small satisfied thing.I knew that expression.I had been watching her face all evening and I knew her expressions now the way you know the expressions of someone you had been studying for two months because you loved two people she was targeting. The warm surface was intact. But underneath it, sitting in the edges of her mouth, the expression of a move that had landed.Something had happened on that balcony.I did not know exactly what. I had not heard the argument between Daisy
DEXTER’S POVWhen I was Arguing with Daisy at the balcony I turned around and Lily was standing at the balcony door. She was not coming out. She was standing in the frame of it, one hand on the glass, the party behind her, looking at me with an expression that took me a second to fully read because the top layer of it was so convincing. Concern. Warmth. The particular softness of someone who had overheard something painful and was feeling it on your behalf.I read the top layer. Then I read what was underneath it.Underneath the concern, underneath the warmth, underneath every practiced element of the expression she had put on, was something else entirely. Something that had nothing to do with sympathy. Something that sat in the corners of her eyes and the very edges of her mouth like a person who had just confirmed the thing they had come to confirm. She had heard everything. The argument in the doorway. Daisy’s voice saying I am tired of a relationship that moves two steps forward
DAISY ❀Ivy knocked twice before she walked in, which was her version of privacy.I was on the bed with the television going and a bowl of popcorn I had barely touched, half watching a reality show I couldn’t follow because my mind kept drifting to places I didn’t want it to go. She leaned against
DAISY ❀I knew someone might hear me.That was the thing about grief, it didn’t wait for convenient moments. It came when the lights were off and the apartment was quiet and there was nothing left to distract you from the size of the absence. I had held it together through the drive, through tea
DEXTER ♡I never agreed to this. That is the part Ivy conveniently leaves out whenever she makes decisions for the both of us, that I live here too, that my name is also on this lease, and that having someone occupy my space without my consent is not something I particularly enjoy. But Ivy has nev
DAISY ♡Losing my parents I never expected it to happen like that. A car crash. Quick and final and completely without warning. It has been two weeks now but every morning I wake up and there is a full second just one second where I forget. Then it comes back. And it hits the same way it hit the
