Astrid's Pov

My back was pressed so hard against the cold stone wall that I could feel every rough edge digging into my skin. Alpha Xavier stood barely an inch away from me, towering over my trembling frame. His presence was suffocating, like the air itself had grown heavier just because he was near. I couldn’t stop shaking. My knees felt weak, and my heart was hammering so loudly I was sure he could hear it.

He leaned in even closer. Then his fingers began to change right before my eyes. They elongated into sharp, dangerous claws. A small, broken sound escaped my throat. I squeezed my eyes shut tightly, waiting for the inevitable. This was the moment he would snap my neck and end everything.

But the pain never came.

Instead, I felt the sharp tip of one claw gently trace along my jawline. My breath hitched. Slowly, almost tenderly, he lifted my chin, forcing my face upward.

“Open your eyes, Astrid,” he commanded, his voice low and rough.

I obeyed, my lashes fluttering open. His hazel eyes burned into mine with an intensity that made my stomach twist. Up close, he was even more terrifying. Beautiful in a deadly way.

“You are beautiful,” he murmured.

The words caught me completely off guard. My lips parted, but nothing came out at first. Heat rushed to my cheeks despite the fear gripping my chest.

“U-um… thank you,” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. “Thank you… Your Highness.”

He didn’t smile. His expression remained dark and unreadable. Those elongated fingers stayed under my chin, holding me in place as if I were prey caught in a trap.

“Why did you do it?” he asked slowly.

“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied, my voice shaking.

The change in him was instant. His hand moved like lightning, wrapping around my throat. Not enough to crush it, but firm enough to make breathing difficult. My eyes widened in pure terror as he pressed me harder against the wall.

“Don’t you dare lie to me,” he growled, his voice dropping into something primal and dangerous. “I saw you. I felt you. I can still feel your mark on my skin.”

His free hand moved to the side of his neck, tapping the faint glowing mark where I had bitten him.

“You are a vampire in my territory,” he continued, his eyes flashing with fury. “Who sent you? Were you sent here to kill me? To poison me?”

“No!” I gasped, tears spilling down my cheeks. “No, no, please. I wasn’t sent by anyone. I swear on my life. I was just… I was in my village. Your warriors came and attacked us. That’s how I ended up here.”

He let out a low, dangerous chuckle that sent chills racing down my spine.

“Attack?” he repeated. “Your leader was planning to ambush me, little one. I don’t like trouble, but I handle it when it comes. That is how life works for humans, witches, and wolves alike. Now answer me properly, Astrid. Why did you save my life?”

His fingers loosened slightly around my throat but began tracing down the side of my neck, then lower, slowly moving over my collarbone. The touch was light, yet it made me shiver violently. I felt like I might wet myself from fear. My gown suddenly felt too thin, too exposing under his dominating presence.

“I… I saved you because you saved me first,” I whispered, tears streaming freely now. “Twice. When your warriors were going to execute me, you told them to stop. And when Luna Aliyah was having me whipped… when the pain was too much… you stopped it again. I didn’t want to owe you. I just… I couldn’t watch you die after what you did for me.”

He stared at me for a long moment, his eyes searching my face. Then he stepped back slightly, releasing my throat. I nearly collapsed, sucking in desperate breaths.

“Really?” he asked, his tone unreadable.

“Yes,” I breathed, my voice cracking. “I swear it.”

He studied me for another heartbeat, then turned sharply.

“Follow me.”

He started walking without waiting. When I didn’t move immediately, he glanced back. His eyes had turned a deep, terrifying red. The sight sent fresh panic surging through me. I scrambled after him, my legs shaking so badly I could barely keep up.

The castle halls were mostly empty. Everyone had gathered in the central cavern with the Moon Goddess for the testing. A few warriors we passed bowed deeply to Xavier and spared me only quick, curious glances, but no one dared question why I was with him.

When we reached his chambers, a servant quickly opened the heavy door. Xavier stepped inside, and I followed hesitantly. The room was massive and dimly lit, filled with dark wood and rich fabrics.

“Sit,” he ordered.

I dropped into the nearest chair immediately, not daring to disobey. My hands trembled in my lap as I watched him pour a dark red liquid from a pitcher into two goblets. Wine? Blood? I couldn’t tell. He set one in front of me and took the seat opposite, crossing his powerful legs. His claws were still partially extended, tapping lightly against the arm of the chair.

“So tell me, vampire,” he said, his voice calm but commanding, “what is a creature like you doing living in the human world? And do not lie to me.”

I opened my mouth to speak, heart pounding, when a loud bang echoed through the room. The door flew open.

Luna Aliyah burst in dramatically.

“Oh my God, baby! You’re alive!” she cried, rushing straight to Xavier. She threw her arms around him, pressing herself tightly against his chest. “Xavier, I’m so sorry. I was so scared for you.”

Xavier’s expression remained cold. “What are you doing here, woman? You left me to die.”

Aliyah pulled back, eyes wide with fake innocence. “No, no, no! I never did that. You must have heard wrong. I was only going to find help. How could I ever leave you? You’re the love of my life. I would never abandon you.”

She continued rambling, her voice sweet and pleading, explaining how she had been searching for medicine or reinforcements. Then she suddenly stopped and turned toward me, as if noticing my presence for the first time.

Her eyes narrowed with clear disgust.

“And you?” she snapped. “What are you doing here? Have you even been checked by the Moon Goddess yet?”

Xavier’s Pov I stood there with my fingers still cupping Astrid’s chin. Her skin was warm and incredibly soft beneath my rough hand, like the finest silk warmed by the sun. I could feel the slight tremble in her jaw as she looked up at me. Her eyes were wide and uncertain, but there was something else in them too. Something that made my blood run hotter. I was glad nobody had touched her. If they had, the rage inside me would have been uncontrollable. I did not even understand where that rage came from. Why did the thought of anyone else laying a finger on her make me want to tear the world apart? Maybe it was because she had saved my life once. Maybe it was because she was mine now. Whatever it was, it burned deep.I slowly pulled my hand away. My fingers brushed along her jaw one last time, lingering just a second longer than necessary. Then I turned and walked back to my chair. The heavy wood creaked loudly as I sat down. Astrid remained standing in front of me. She looked so smal

Astrid’s PovWe stepped into the room and it felt strangely quiet. The space was small but clean. There was only one bed. I did not know what to do so I sat at the very edge of the bed feeling awkward. Talon stood near the door for a moment before he spoke.“So what is going to happen to your makeup? Are you going to sleep with it on?”I touched my face lightly. “I will take a bath and wipe it off. But this long wedding dress is very uncomfortable. If I had something sharp I could cut it shorter to make it easier to sleep in.”Talon nodded. “You know what? When you remove the dress keep it on top of the bed. Tell me the length you want me to cut it. When you finish bathing it will be ready for you to wear.”I looked at him with surprise. “Oh thank you so much. I did not know your claws were that sharp for clothes.”Talon gave a small smile. “If my claws are sharp for people what is cloth that it cannot cut?”I felt a little stupid for asking the question. We stared at each other for a

Astrid’s PovIf someone had told me that I would be getting married to the ugliest man in the world I would never have believed it. Not even for one second. I had always dreamed about my wedding day. I imagined wearing a beautiful white dress with flowers in my hair. I imagined smiling because I was happy. But here I was standing in front of a cracked mirror looking at myself in a dress that was not mine. I looked beautiful on the outside but inside I felt completely empty. Two ladies I did not even know were helping me get ready. One was kind and quiet. The other had a mean face and kept sighing like I was wasting her time. I turned to the kind one with tears in my eyes.“Please I cannot do this,” I whispered. She gave me a small sad smile. “My child you have to. We have no option. This is what we do to survive.”I tried again. “I cannot do this. I still have so much to live for. I cannot stay with this man please.”The mean one snapped at me. “Hey girl do not spoil the makeup we wor

Xavier’s PovI stared at Aliyah like I had not heard her correctly. My mind refused to accept the words. Maybe I heard wrong. Maybe she said something else. This could not be real.“I did not get you,” I said slowly. “Come again.”Aliyah continued eating her food calmly like she had not just said something crazy. She took another bite and chewed slowly.I felt my blood start to boil. I raised my voice. “I asked you a question Aliyah. What did you just say?”She finally dropped her fork and looked up at me. “Oh come on Xavier. I sold her. She was of no use to me anymore. So I sold her to some traders on her way to get married to an elder somewhere far away.”My hands clenched into fists. “You would not dare.”Aliyah stood up slowly. “What do you mean I would not dare? She is just a lowly servant. Since when did you start caring so much about servants and what I do with them? You wanted a personal maid. I gave you a new one. She was always making mistakes anyway. It was out of my genero

  • Taming The Alpha’s Curse   Chapter 31

Xavier’s PovThe journey back to Volkarion felt longer than the actual war itself. My horse moved steadily but my mind was somewhere else completely. I kept thinking about seeing Astrid again. Just the thought of her face made something warm spread through my chest. I remembered her soft eyes. I remembered her gentle voice. Most of all I remembered her beautiful hair. It looked like she used some kind of magic potion on it. The kind vampires take so they can walk in the sun without burning. Her hair was always so gorgeous. It shone even in the dark. I could not stop thinking about running my fingers through it.Talon and Caden were talking beside me. They discussed the short battle and how easy the victory was. I heard their voices but the words did not enter my head. I was too busy imagining Astrid smile. I wondered if she missed me even a little. I wondered if she still wore my coat again.Suddenly Talon raised his voice. “Xavier. Xavier.”I turned my head slowly. “Yes?”He studied

  • Taming The Alpha’s Curse   Chapter 30

Astrid’s PovI started hearing muffled sounds. People were talking in low voices. There were whispers and murmurs all around me. At first I thought it was a dream. But the sounds felt too real. I tried to open my eyes slowly. Something felt wrong. The surface under me was hard and uncomfortable. I remembered falling asleep on a very soft mattress in Luna Aliyah room. Why was this place so hard? When I finally opened my eyes everything was dark. Very dark. I could only see tiny spaces of light through small gaps. I was inside something tight and closed. A box. I was trapped in a box. My chest became tight. I have always been afraid of small spaces. I have always been afraid of the dark. Who would not be afraid of the dark in a situation like this? That was when I heard Luna Aliyah voice clearly. She was talking to some men outside.“Do not bring her back. I need her soul. The price is fair. Even if it is for free I will give her to you.”One of the men laughed loudly. “Looks like this
