Dahlia

We shouldn't have been doing this. Every rational part of my brain was screaming it. He was my bodyguard, my father's employee. A man I'd sworn to break within a week.

"Fuck. We shouldn't..."

"Stop," he snapped, running a hand through his hair. "Don't think about it, don't regret it. This doesn't leave this room"

Before I could respond, the knock came again. My chest tightened.

"Just a moment!" I screamed, already scrambling off the bed. My legs nearly gave out. Roman caught my elbow, steadying me, and for one insane second, we just stared at each other.

My father, I mouthed.

Roman's jaw tightened. He released me and grabbed his trousers.

I'd never dressed so fast in my life. I picked up a random robe in my wardrobe and quickly put it on. My father mustn't see us together.

I quickly looked at the mirror. My hair was a mess.

"Get me my hair band," I whispered.

"What?"

I groaned, shifting him to the side and I picked the band on the table and wrapped my hair into a bun.

"Dahlia. Open this door," Father said, hitting the door again.

I smoothen my hands on my robe and forced a smile on my face.

Good.

I crossed the room on shaking legs and pulled the door open.

Lucien Argent stood in the hallway, his eyebrows raised. Behind him, two guards waited. My father's silver eyes swept past me, landed on Roman, and froze.

Roman stood by the window, fully dressed now, his expression perfectly neutral.

"What," Lucien said slowly in disbelief, "is he doing in your room?"

Roman’s shoulder straightened. His eyes flicked to me for a moment then back at Lucien. His jaw tightened.

“I…” he scratched the back of his head. "I…"

Oh no.

I stepped into the doorway, blocking his view. "He… he was just checking my room. After last night's attack, I felt unsafe. I asked him to..."

"I didn't ask you." Lucien moved past me. He was taller than Roman, broader, but somehow Roman didn't shrink. He just stood there, meeting the Alpha's stare without flinching. "You. Explain."

He cleared his throat. "I was only checking the room as..."

"Checking." Lucien cut him off. "In a room with my daughter. While she's wearing a robe?"

"No. It's not..." I started.

"Silence." My father barked, not looking at me. His eyes stayed locked on Roman. "Your place is outside her door. Not inside. Not ever inside. Do you understand me?"

Roman lowered his head. "Perfectly."

"Then get out."

Roman didn't argue. He walked toward the door, and when he passed me, his fingers brushed mine. Brief. Barely there. But I felt it like a brand.

Then he was gone, and I was alone with my father.

Lucien stood in the middle of my ruined bedroom, breathing hard. His hands were shaking. I'd never seen him like this before... Not exactly angry but scared.

"Sit down," he said, voice low and soft.

I sat on the edge of the bed. The sheets still smelled like Roman. I hoped he couldn't smell it.

My father didn't sit. He paced. Once. Twice. Then he stopped in front of me and crouched to my eye level. My chest tightened.

I didn't understand what was going on at first.

"I was harsh with you earlier," he murmured. "I struck you. I have no excuse."

I shook my head. My eyes watered. "You were scared."

"I was terrified." He reached for my hands, squeezing them."You are my daughter. My only daughter. When I think of losing you..."

My stomach flipped.

"You won't lose me," I tried to assure him.

"I almost have. Three times." He rubbed his temples. "I cannot protect you if you won't let me. I cannot keep you safe if you keep running."

I wanted to pull away. I wanted to scream that he was suffocating me, that his protection was a cage, that I would rather die free than live as his prisoner.

But I looked at his face, this proud, powerful man, broken open by fear...and something in my chest softened.

"I'll try," I swallowed. "To be more careful."

"That's all I ask." He squeezed my hands. Released them. Stood. "Now. We need to discuss Adrian."

My stomach turned

"Father..."

He exhaled. "The courtship begins next week. He'll be staying at the estate. I expect you to be civil. I expect you to give him a chance."

I stood up from my bed and glared at him. Why wouldn't he listen? "I don't want to marry him."

"You don't know him. Give him a chance, Dahlia. That's all I'm asking." He argued, thumb trailing down my cheek. "I love you. I just want you safe."

BOOM

Before I could respond, the windows shattered. Glass rained across the floor. The walls shook, and a sound like thunder ripped through the estate from the east wing.

My father wrapped his hands around me.

"No," I breathed.

The door burst open. Roman filled the frame, knife in hand, eyes scanning for threats. He crossed the room in three strides and positioned himself between me and the window.

"Alpha," he said, and his voice was cold. "We need to move. Now."

Lucien was already shifting, his wolf rising to the surface. His eyes glowed silver-blue, the Argent pack mark blazing in his irises.

"Protect her," he commanded. "Nothing happens to her. Do you hear me? Nothing."

Roman nodded. "On my life."

Then my father was gone, racing toward the sound of fighting, and Roman was pulling me toward the door.

"Stay behind me. Don't run unless I tell you. Don't shift unless I tell you. Do you understand?"

My heart was thundering in my chest. "Yes."

We made it to the hallway. Smoke curled from the east wing. Screams echoed through the estate. Pack members were running, shifting, fighting.

Another explosion.

Closer this time.

Roman grabbed me and threw us both to the ground, covering my body with his. Debris rained down. Heat washed over us. I pressed my face into his chest and felt his heart hammering against my cheek.

When the shaking stopped, he pulled me up.

"We have to get to the safe room," he whispered.

"I know the way," I said. He grabbed my hands and we sprinted into a race. Just as we rounded the corner, one of the attackers blocked our way, eyes burning red.

He lunged.

Oh my God, I'm going to die.

  • Teasing Her Alpha Guard    Chapter 11

Roman The rain wouldn't stop falling. I kept moving, walking a path through the wet underbrush while Dahlia stayed close behind me. My jacket swallowed her whole but she didn't complain about it, didn't complain about the cold either or the mud sucking at her boots with every step. For someone who spent most of her time being dramatic about everything, she knew when to shut up and move. I'd give her that much. My ears were locked onto every sound in those trees. Every move of a branch. Every shift in the wet air. My hand hadn't left my weapon since we stepped out of the cabin. My wolf was restless, snapping at every shadow moving between the trunks like something was already out there watching us. Maybe something was. We were about a mile out, closing in on where the logging trail met the edge of the neutral territory, when I felt my thigh vibrate. I stopped immediately. Stand back. Dahlia froze behind me without a sound, her eyes wide under the hood of my jacket. Good girl.

  • Teasing Her Alpha Guard    Chapter 10

Roman My hand gripped the door frame, the wood groaning slightly under my palm as I held Dahlia pinned against it. She was looking up at me, her blue eyes wide, bright and completely aware of the damage she was doing. She wanted a reaction, she was begging for one. I didn't give her one. I forced my breathing to slow, pushing down the heavy, steady thud of my wolf's pulse in my ears. My eyes traced the line of her throat, down to the ridiculous sliver fabric that barely covered her chest. She was practically naked. The back of the dress didn't exist, all smooth golden skin down to her hips. Any other wolf would have had her pinned on the nearest flat surface by now. I was not any other wolf, that was the only thing keeping my hands off her. "Maybe I want to get burned, bodyguard," she whispered, her lips parting with that small challenging smile. "Maybe I want to see what happens when a machine like you breaks." "You don't know what you're asking for," I said. My voice came

Dahlia The next morning, I didn't wake up angry. I woke up calculating. The revelation of the encrypted message had changed the rules of the game. I was no longer just a spoiled Alpha's daughter trying to run off from a pesky bodyguard because I wanted my freedom. I was a woman fighting for survival, trapped with a man who was either my ultimate savior or my most dangerous enemy. To get the truth, I needed him weak, vulnerable and stripped of that suffocating, robotic professionalism. I walked over to the old cedar wardrobe standing in the corner of the bedroom. Roman had apparently brought a single duffel bag of my belongings from the estate before it burned, likely grabbing whatever he could throw into a sack during the chaos. I unzipped it, flipping through the contents until my fingers brushed against something metallic and heavy. A dress. Not just any dress. This was a custom, heavy silk piece I had bought for an elite Alpha gala I never got to attend. It was liquid silver

DahliaThe cabin door had been left open a little, allowing a bit of the night air to cut through the heavy warmth of the interior. I pressed my face near the gap, peeping out into the moonlit clearing. The black SUV sat under the canopy of a massive pine tree, its hood propped open.Roman was leaning over the engine bay, the bright beam of a flashlight held between his teeth as his large hands worked on something deep within the engine. His back was entirely to me, his attention split between the vehicle and the dark perimeter of the forest.I slipped through the doorway like a ghost, the silk of my robe rubbing against my ankles. My heart hammered against my ribs, a wild, erratic rhythm that had nothing to do with fear and everything to do with the thrill of the hunt. I wasn't trying to escape into the woods.I knew better than to test my luck against a trained predator in his own territory.I had a different target. As I approached the passenger side of the vehicle, shielded from R

DahliaThe morning light filtering through the heavy curtains was thick with dust motes and completely unforgiving.I woke up, if you could even call the miserable, fitful hours of drifting I'd managed "sleep," feeling like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards. Every muscle in my body ached, my eyes felt full of sand and the lingering scent of Roman on the pillows was doing unholy things to my temper.I sat up, tossing the heavy wool blanket aside with a frustrated groan. The anger from the night before hadn't dissolved; it had simmered, turning into a thick, volatile sludge at the bottom of my stomach.A mistake. The words repeated in my head, a rhythmic, taunting chant. He had tasted me, he had possessed me with his eyes, he had practically growled into my skin about how I belonged to him and the second things got difficult, he drew a line in the sand and told me to stay on my side of it."Coward," I muttered to the empty room, swinging my legs over the edge of the bed.My bar

DahliaThe red eyed rogue didn't even have time to snap his jaws. Before his claws could slice through the air where my throat had been a second ago, Roman moved. He didn't just step in front of me; he became a shield of pure lethal muscle. With a guttural roar that made the wall tremble, Roman caught the attacker mid air, slamming him into the stoned floor with enough force to break the tiles. The rogue recovered with frightening speed. He rolled, sprang back to his feet and lunged again, his claws aiming towards Roman's throat. Roman twisted sideways at the last second, avoiding the strike by inches before driving his elbow hard into the rogue's ribs. Bone cracked. The rogue staggered but didn't fall. Instead, he snarled and launched himself towards me at full speed.I froze but Roman didn't.He intercepted the rogue before he could reach me, wrapping one powerful arm around his neck and wrenching him backward. The man's claws roamed wildly through the air, missing my face by barely

Dahlia The third time someone tried to kill me, I was more annoyed than afraid. Mostly because I'd just bought this dress three hours ago, and now there was a very real chance it was about to get ruined by some homicidal asshole's blood. Again. The bass thumped through the floorboards of Th

Dahlia I licked my lips, tasting the salty taste of Roman cum. Not a single drop wasted. I swallowed everything deliberately. His massive frame towered over me, chest rising and falling like he had run a marathon, hands clenched at his sides as if fighting the urge to drag me back onto his cock.

  • Teasing Her Alpha Guard    CHAPTER 3

Roman I wrapped her naked body against my chest, water droplets traced lazy paths down her skin and I couldn't tear my eyes away. Gods, she is beautiful. My eyes trailed slowly from the curve of her neck, down to the swell of her breasts, perfect and heaving as she breaths. Her nipples were ha

  • Teasing Her Alpha Guard    CHAPTER 2

DahliaI learned two things about Roman Wolfe in the first twenty four hours. One: The man was a snitch. Two: I couldn't trust him as far as I could throw him and I couldn't throw him at all. The bastard probably weighed twice what I did. I stood in front of my father in his study, head lowered.
