CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.

The front door to the mansion closed behind me with a soft click, and I immediately wished I hadn’t left. Last night had been one of the best sleeps of my life, but I was also embarrassed.

I couldn’t meet Paul’s gaze and rushed past him to the car, ripping open the front passenger door and diving inside.

I looked away, my cheeks burning, when I saw him chuckle as he walked around the front of the car.

“Most people sit in the back when they have a driver.” He mused as he c

  • The Accidental Almost Kiss with my Ex's Uncle   Eighty-Eight

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.For the rest of the day, I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. Even when Vanessa made it clear that despite my success with The Black Door, I couldn’t even breathe near my new clients without running it past her first, the smile stayed. It only infuriated her more, and I loved it.Rebecca didn’t seem to happy with her, and from the snippets of conversations I had overheard, Vanessa’s days were numbered if she didn’t turn things around. By the end of the day, Vanessa was the last to leave, and it only made me happier to see her ready to pull her hair out as she was finally focusing on her own work instead of trying to micromanage everyone else now that they had gone for the day. She didn’t bother to look up as I left, and I was grateful, because I had plans and I wasn’t going to let her bring me down. Derek had been right that I had been ordering in every night, and I figured it would be nice to cook Paul a homemade meal to thank him for keeping me safe over the

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.I felt ridiculous as I stood in the elevator, watching the numbers climb, while the people standing in front of me glanced over their shoulders with curiosity at the large visitor sticker the front desk had me place on my chest. Yet, as they all got off, I stayed on until I reached the top floor. Derek’s floor. “Ms. Valente!” Dahlia exclaimed, rising to her feet as soon as she saw me exit the elevator. I blushed as she sent me a knowing look. “I know you said Tuesdays, but is he free by chance?”“For you, I have the feeling he would cancel every meeting he has.” She said, wiggling her eyebrows at me. “He has been in an exceptional mood today, though. I believe I can speak for everyone here when I say thank you.” I looked away, feeling excited that one kiss had that effect on him, but also embarrassed that the people at his work clearly had their own opinions on our sex life, not that there was one. Yet. “Oh… you’re welcome?” I said, and her smile grew larger.

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V. It felt like I was floating through life over the next week. I had been assigned two new, smaller clients and had received my settlement. The messages I had been getting from Derek only made each day better, and I was constantly checking my phone for the next one, but he always responded right away and never made me wait. By Friday night, I was more excited than I was nervous, and I was practically bouncing as I waited for him to pick me up for our date. I didn’t know where we were going or what we were doing, but it didn’t matter as long as I was with him. When the doorbell rang, I let out a deep breath and quickly reached up to make sure my hair was still neat and out of my face before opening it. Derek stood on the other side in a black suit and a bouquet of roses in his hands. He looked like a dream, and while I had been worried that I had overdressed before, I felt good about my choice of heels, dress, and jewelry. “You look breathtaking.” Derek bre

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.We hated him. When I had asked her if we hated Paul, she had lied to me. She should have told me that we HATED him.Lydia was the perfect woman. She was smart, funny, successful, and attractive. There was nothing she couldn’t do, and he had broken her heart.“They’re right here,” Derek said, breaking the tense silence and gesturing me toward the oven and opening it.I forced my eyes away from Lydia as Paul stepped away from her with his head down, and she sat back down at the kitchen island.Food sounded like a great idea to help sober me up. Still, I also wasn’t sure I would be able to hold anything down right now, and after hearing Lydia’s confession, all four of us sitting down together sounded like a horrible idea.“I made ones with bacon and ones with sausage,” Derek said and I paused, looking from him to the sink of dishes.“Wait,

LYDIA’S P.O.V.“Turn off the sun,” I groaned, rolling to the side and up against a warm body. It was smaller than I would have liked, and way too feminine for my liking.“Jesus! Do you have a bullhorn or something?” Charlotte said, and I cracked one eye open to see her sprawled out on top of the blanket. The smell of death wafting from her made me cringe, and I shoved my face into the pillow before realizing the smell was my own breath.“What the hell happened last night?” I asked, lifting my head slowly as the room continued to move around us. “Oh, my god. I think I’m still drunk.” “I can’t hear anything over the sound of the fan,” Charlotte grumbled, rolling onto her side before jumping out of the bed so fast that just the sight of it made my head spin. I cringed as she stumbled through the attached door and fell onto the bathroom floor, hugging the toilet. Faint images of the day before hit me, but most of the night was gone. I remembered going to court, my girl winning, going

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.My heart was hammering out of my chest, and it wasn’t because of the drinks I had or the fact that I was now a millionaire again. Every nerve ending in my body was firing, and I felt giddy with the idea of going on a date. That still didn’t stop me from enjoying myself or diminish my drunken confidence as I ground against Derek. I hadn’t had his hands on me in so long that feeling him now was making me burn up. I wanted to date and be romanced. I wanted to be swept off my damned feet! But I also wanted him, and I no longer had anything hanging over my head. After several songs, I was breathing hard and was ready for another drink, but when I looked for Lydia, she was nowhere to be seen. “Damn!” I hissed before turning to Derek, grabbing the front of his shirt to steady myself. “What’s wrong?” He asked, looking over my head to scan the crowd, and I felt his arms tighten around me as if there were a threat near us. Never before had I felt so safe and… loved.

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V"Ms. Valente, the divorce papers you requested will be ready within a week."I forced a tight-lipped smile to my lawyer, nodding my head as I stood. “I look forward to it. CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.I spent the entire ride home pretending like I wasn’t staring at a cocktail napkin, but unfortunately, Lydia noticed everything. She was also sober, and I was…. Not. CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V. Lydia grumbled under her breath as she shoved the hotel keycard into the slot for the third time. The light flashed red again, and I groaned, stumbling to the side a few steps before regaining my footing. We had been at the club all night, and there was no way I wanted to retur
