Raine POV
I watch as Kal sits back, smirking at me. His dark hair hangs over his eyes slightly, swept slightly to the side. It’s the same smile he always gives me, the one that says he wants more but I don’t.
He’s the best friend of my brothers, and future Alpha of the Blackmoor pack. The thing is, he’s hot, but I don’t know. It’s not even that he’s their best friend, it’s just, we grew up together. I see him as a brother.
“Hey, Venom,” Kal says and I laugh.
“What, Kal?”
“Aren’t you late?” His head tilts and I look at my phone.
“Yeah, she is. Better not be late, Venom, father’s Beta won’t be happy.”
Venom is my nickname, only those closest to me call me it and understand the name. I got it after I got bored of trying to get close to guys and my brothers almost killing them.
Now, the moment a guy tries, I stop him before he even gets a word in, and apparently my words are like venom. Hence the nickname.
The truth is, most of the guys won’t even try because they know my brothers and they are too afraid. The ones who do? They just want me for the title, to be closer to Alpha Julius, my father.
So yeah, when guys try, I destroy them with words. I remind them that they might be willing to fight my brothers for approval, but I could break them just as easily.
“Venom,” Cain says and I glance at him. My three brothers are all one year older than me, triplets and identical, in the flesh anyway. They all have that ash-blonde hair that covers their eyes, bright blue eyes, and an easy smile.
But on the inside? Entirely different. The only thing they have in common is the women they fuck, and protecting me.
Cain is laid back, he likes to party, to play. Axel is more focused on training. Yeah, he parties, but he trains hard. Vane is a mixture of them, he’s wild, but also trains hard.
“Yeah, I’m going,” I say. I should have been at the shop by now. From a young age I drew, I became an artist, but art isn’t good, it’s a piece that hangs on the wall in one person’s house.
Which is why I trained to tattoo. My father has his reservations, my mother... she hates it. I’m still convinced she’s not my mother, even though my father swears down she is.
She’s like an evil stepmother to me. My brothers? She adores them. But me? Yeah, I’ve had a black eye or two. My father says we’re too alike and clash.
Walking out, I climb on the bike and ride to my shop. I stop outside and climb off the bike, unlocking the door and stepping inside. I hang up my coat and walk around setting everything up.
“Hey Venom,” Vane says as he steps in, and behind him is Beta Ashley.
“Vane,” I say and hug him quickly. He looks down at me and sighs.
“Stop annoying Mother, and giving her a reason to raise her hand.”
I scoff. “I walked in the door, should I stand outside and wait for permission to come into our own home?” I ask.
His eyes roll, and Beta Ashley drags his top from his body. For a moment my brain stops working. I’ve seen just about every part of his body, and still to this day, I find myself caught when he does that.
Ashley is forty, way too old for eighteen-year-old me. But... he’s hot, like hotter than Kal hot. He’s not yet found his mate, and I wonder if he ever will?
“Another year,” I say as I drag the stool in front of him, and settle myself between his open thighs.
“It sure is, so let’s add the mark,” he says.
This is a quick and easy tattoo. Every year that he’s the head Beta for my father, he gets another small crest in the larger one. “You’re running out of space,” I say as I dip the needle into the ink.
“You’re not using a stencil?” Axel asks and I look up to see him, Cain and Kal step in.
“I don’t need a stencil, I’m doing this crest too much,” I laugh. Leaning forward, I begin. Beta Ashley flinches.
“Careful,” he growls.
I playfully slap his face. “For a Beta you’re a pussy,” I joke and he laughs.
“Most give a warning,” he says.
I stop tattooing and look at him. “Most? How many other people do you go see to have tattoos done?” I ask.
“None, Raine, just you.”
Humming I nod and get back to work. “That’s what I thought,” I say. Everyone laughs. I’m now the main person a lot of packs come to for tattoos. Humans come as well, but my main clients are wolves.
“All done,” I say, leaning back from Beta Ashley. He stands and throws on his shirt before walking out.
“Are you meeting Sasha later?” Cain asks.
“Don’t, Cain, I swear if you three fuck her, I won’t be happy,” I say with a laugh.
The door opens, and I turn. My jaw practically hits the floor at the guy who steps in. I say steps in, he has to duck to get through the door.
God damn, he’s hot. My mouth goes dry and I just stare at him.
Raine POVI should have written in some fake ones.“No, but I should come in early. I’ve got designs to draw.”“Stay at the pack for a bit,” Axel says. “You and Kai just got married. Working constantly won’t be good for the relationship.”I almost scoff. What relationship? But the numb feeling spreads through my stomach again, warning me. “Sure.”I follow them out and climb into the car. I hate this. I hate that I can’t just leave, run, and hide with the humans. But being a witch means I’m at even more risk out there.Tomorrow at least I get to escape Kai’s pack at night. I’ll stay at my father’s pack, or at least pretend to, and sneak out. That’s the one good thing about my mother hating me.No one ever checks on me when I’m in my room. It means when I slip away, no one will know. When the car stops, I look out and see Kai walking toward us. I get out and Vane follows.“I was so worried!” Kai says, wrapping his arms around me like the perfect, loving husband. My entire body tenses. H
Raine POVI believe him.I believe every single word he says. I believe he’ll make me forget Kai’s touch. I believe he’ll brand himself so deeply into my skin and soul that I’ll still feel him days later. I even believe him when he calls me beautiful, when he looks at me like I’m the only thing in his world.I wanted to tell him everything, about the baby, about the curse, about how terrified I am, but the moment the thought formed, that horrible numb feeling spread through my stomach like ice. So I stayed silent. But I know what I have to do now.I need to see Brax as much as possible. Every stolen moment, every touch, every kiss will strengthen our bond. The stronger the bond becomes, the weaker Kai’s curse will feel. I just have to survive until then. I’ve never been weak. My brothers named me Venom for a reason.I can be that girl again. I can be weak and quiet in front of Kai and the others. I can play the perfect, broken wife when I have to. But in these stolen moments, I can be
Brax POVMy hips move slowly, rocking into her with deep, deliberate strokes. My hands never stop moving, stroking along every curve of her body as if I can wipe away every trace of him with my touch alone.“You’re mine,” I whisper against her lips, voice low and rough. “Every inch of you belongs to me, Nightbloom.”She whimpers, grinding up into me, chasing more. I give it to her, thrusting a little deeper while my mouth trails along her jaw.“No one else gets to have you like this,” I murmur, kissing down the side of her neck. My wolf snarls as I reach the claiming mark, but I don’t pull away. Instead, I kiss it slowly, possessively. “This mark doesn’t change anything. You’re still mine.”Her head falls back with a soft moan. I keep moving, sliding my cock almost a
Brax POVI’ve called by her shop a few times. It’s been closed for two days. I’ve kept an eye on the street where the hotel is and nothing. There’s been nothing, so I’m going back today. If she’s not at work, then I’m going to her pack. I need to know she’s okay. I need to see her.I’ve spent so much time stressing over her. My wolf is obsessing so much that my father is beginning to ask what I’m up to. I’ve lied and said I’m looking into other ways to break this curse. It’s bullshit. I should be, because once I find a cure, a way to break it, then Raine is safe to come to my pack. As I drive past her store I see the lights on.She’s there. I park behind on a back street and walk through. Glancing through the fr
Raine POVIt has been two days since I married Kai, and he hasn’t let me leave the pack house once.I cook. I clean. Then I’m dragged back to the cell and locked inside. He promised I could still work at my shop, but now I’m starting to believe it was just another lie to keep me compliant.I haven’t dared ask him about it. If I push, he’ll only make me wait longer. So I behave. I stay quiet. I avoid Serena as much as possible. The two times she caught me alone, she beat me badly enough that I could barely stand afterward. The rest of the pack is just as cruel. Their stares, their whispers, the way they spit the word “witch” like it’s poison… I don’t understand any of it.My father would never treat a witch this way. Our pack doesn’t do this. So why does this pack despise them so much? I thought the only ones I had to fear were the vampire hybrids. I was wrong. Apparently I have to fear wolves too.All I want is to draw. To let my hands move and my mind escape this nightmare, even for
Raine POVBlood pours down the dress and she hooks her claws into it and pulls, shredding it. “Get changed, witch! Or should I aim for your stomach?”I grab the rags and shrug off the torn dress. My hand raises to touch my face. If I could shift I would rip her apart, but it’s a risk for wolves to shift while pregnant.“You heal quick, no doubt the magic in you. Move.” I walk to the door and she grabs my arm and takes me down the hall to a door. Shoving it open she drags me down concrete steps. The place is damp and disgusting.Shoving me into a cell she locks the door. “Someone will unlock it before you need to cook or clean.” Turning she walks off and I look around. There’s nothing. No blanket, no sheet, nothing.Sitting down I press my back against the wall. My head falls forward, and my hand settles on
Raine POVI hate this. Acting like everything is fine, like nothing is wrong. The dirty rags are gone. Now I’m wearing a nice dress, a fake ass dress. When I walk down, Serena stops me. “Enjoy it, w
Kai POVRaine stares up at me like she’s seeing a stranger. Good.“You’re my brothers’ friend,” she whispers.“I still am, Raine.” I’ve not fallen out with her brothers. Not exactly anyway.“And your father?” she asks.Laughing, I gesture around. “He deserves to suffer. He refused to give me the pa
Brax POVShe’s leaning forward, her hair thrown over one shoulder as she concentrates on it. She’s Alpha Julius’s daughter, his only daughter. She wasn’t who I expected when I was told this was the best place to come.Raine... I thought it was a guy. Turns out it’s a woman, not just any woman eithe
Raine POVWho is this guy? He’s tall, broad and has stubble, his brown eyes, if I look closer, are rimmed in green. His black hair is slicked back, and he looks intimidating but hot.“Looking for Raine,” he says, and my brothers tense.“That’s me,” I say.He pauses. “You?”I nod. “In the flesh, how
