Mag-log in“I am not one for stories, Eloise, but I must admit, I am quite interested in uncovering how a Luna like yourself who was presumed to be dead ended up here in a whorehouse.” *** Eloise had lost everything. Her child, her wolf, her family, and her very own identity. He’d taken it all from her—the man who she’d believed loved her, her very own mate. And he wasn’t done ruining her yet. Forced into hiding and left with nothing to her name, she has no other choice but to take up a job as stripper to keep up. Little did she know a single session with a very strange client, who’d turned out to be an Alpha, would change… everything.
view moreI was going to be late. I shivered at the thought of the punishment I’d endure if the Bishopp discovered that I’d left a client waiting—especially one who’d spent a fortune for a session with me. But I couldn’t seem to get my shaky hands to cooperate. They trembled as I powdered my nose.
I should be used to this by now, I’d been in this business for two years now, and yet I couldn’t seem to get over the nervousness I felt each time I was called upon.
I swallowed, taking one last glance at the mirror, the girl staring back at me was a complete stranger—unrecognizable. Maybe it was the layers of makeup she hid behind, or the slutty outfit she was in, which she once would have never even dreamt of wearing—I couldn’t tell.I finished up with a bright layer of cherry red lipstick—my signature look, before making my way to the suit my client was sure to be waiting in.
I stopped before the door, then just as easily as any true actress would, I slipped into character. The wide smile on my face was just as fake as everything else about me, and then I stepped in. My smile faltered. He had his back to me as he stared out the window like the sight was way more interesting than that of a half-naked woman. This, I wasn’t used to. If he noticed someone had just walked in, he gave no indication.“What’s your name?” he questioned, making me realize he was indeed aware of my presence.
The command in his tone was enough to tell me that this man was used to getting things done his way.“I am whatever you want me to be, Master.” I said in my most seductive voice. The Bishopp had once told me that my voice alone was all I needed to bring any man to their knees, apparently not this man.
“What does that mean?” he questioned, genuinely confused.
I shrugged gently, “I could be Jane, Kate, Lizabeth… whoever you want me to be.”
Some clients had required I ‘roleplay’ during our sessions, and I'd had no problem doing just that.“What is your name?” he questioned again, and I realized he might just be very different from any other client I’d had to entertain.
“Ruby, Master.”
“Your real name.”
Wait… what?
The smile instantly faded from my lips. Warning bells went off in my head. No one had ever asked me for my name. Why would they? I was just another worker in Bishopp’s Establishment, my name held no importance, and that had worked for me too. “I—my name is Ruby.” I repeated, but my voice sounded strange—even to my own ears. I’d always thought myself a perfect actress, but for the first time in a long while, I slipped. Finally, the man turned away from the window and towards me. “I am not one for stories, Eloise Taleborn, but I must admit, I am quite interested in uncovering how a Luna like yourself who was presumed to be dead ended up here in a whorehouse.”
CASSIAN’S POVI’d been heading into my office when I spotted her. She knocked on the door to a guestroom—only, someone was inside. Jefferson Scott. The first thing I wondered was what he was doing here. But I figured he wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t agreed to this.I tried reaching for the anger I once felt whenever I saw him, but there was nothing, and while I found that very strange, it was more proof that Eloise was right, a part of me was missing. The look in Jefferson’s eyes was one I'd seen before, it was of a man who was madly in love. Eloise stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him. She’d told me he was the father of her daughter and they’d separated, but there didn’t seem to be even an ounce of animosity between them, on the contrary, they seemed comfortable around each other.A flicker of jealousy rose in my chest. Jealousy that she was with him, and not with me and that made zero sense because until yesterday, I didn’t even know her. I thought about last night, h
KATALIER’S POVI never believed it’ll be possible to have feelings for a man ever again— at least not after what Nathan had done to me. The ex-alpha had damaged the part of me capable of those feelings. It was true that he’d damaged me in more ways than one, and yet it had always been different around Gideon. He wasn’t like every other man I knew, he was… a good person and believe me, this wasn’t something I said about men.He was the reason I could stand unafraid at the face of another man, he was the reason I could fight—not only to protect myself but for other women facing the same thing I suffered. I had been ready to give him anything in return for that gift—anything, but what surprised me more was that he never asked for anything.Never once had he made any kind of advances towards me. To the world, I was a figure to be feared, but to him I was a woman to be protected. I hated it, but certainly not as much as I should have. The pills I took each day kept Nathan from my thoughts
I knocked on the door to Jefferson’s room, but there was no response. I was about to knock again when the door was pulled open, revealing a freshly out-of-shower and neatly-shaved Jefferson.“Hey,” he said, surprised to see me.“Can I come in?”“Y—yeah, I mean of course.” He stepped aside and I walked in.“I came to check on Layla.” I’d asked that she stayed overnight with him as I didn’t know if this Cassian was ready to have her around. There was a brief look of disappointment on his face, but he quickly masked it.“She’s still asleep,” he said, motioning to the inner room. “I could wake her—”“No, there’s no need for that.” “I heard about Cassian.” He said, “I’m glad he survived.” I nodded. “Yes, me too.”“You don’t look so happy.”“I am—really, it’s just…” I shook my head, “It’s nothing.”“Eloise, you know you can talk to me, right?”I let out a breath. “There’s something wrong with him, the Council—they messed him up and… he doesn’t remember me.”“What do you mean?”“I mean,
ELOISE’S POVHe was back—that’s all that mattered, every other thing could simply be… fixed, right?Yet watching those familiar blue eyes stare at me like I was no more than a stranger had to have been one of the most painful things I’d ever endured.I walked out of the shower, wrapped in a towel to find him laying on the couch.“You should take the bed,” I said to him and his gaze fell on me. He had that all-too-familiar look in his eyes as he took me in, but just as he’d done before, he looked away. “I’m fine.”I changed into my night dress, before laying down on the bed. I missed his warmth, it was harder now, having him so close and yet so far away.“Tell me about you.”“What?” I hadn’t quite caught his words.“You’re not my ideal type; I want to know why I choose you.”The words had hurt, but I swallowed down my emotions, reminding myself all the reasons I should be happy.“You brought me here as your mistress,” I began, “We made a deal actually, and being your mistress was
CASSIAN’S POVEloise was seated on the dais overlooking the crowd as groups displayed their performances. The first group were dancers—about two dozen women, all dressed in beaded tops and skirts made of feathers. They moved expertly to the beat of the drums, dancing in perfect synchrony. The next
ELOISE’S POVIt was the day of the Joining Ceremony. I was officially going to be named Cassian’s mate and wife. I should be excited, and perhaps I would have been if the day after wasn’t the day he was due to face the Council. As much as I tried not to think about that and just enjoy this moment,
“You handled that quite well,” Katalier’s voice in my head acknowledged as I slid into the car.“Thanks and sorry for ordering you around.”“It’s fine,” her response came through the link, “A mute plus-one would have been no help out there,” she said with a shrug, and perhaps she could have been ab
GIDEON’S POV“Many called him the Slayer, some even believed him to be a god in the skin of a mortal, but only now do we see that Cassian Nightingis is no god. He is the servant of the devil himself—a monster.” The man who seemed to be the leader of the gathering stood on a podium, and pack member
