ELOISE’S POV

I woke up with a smile on my face. Memories of the previous night flooded back into my mind; I’d finally gotten back my wolf—and then I’d beaten Cassian in a race, my wolf still felt very smug about that. But my smile faded when I noticed the empty bed and Katalier seated on the couch watching me with sad grey eyes.

“He’s… gone?” I asked even if I already knew the answer to that. She nodded, confirming what I feared and my heart sank into the pit of my stomach.

Katalier motioned f

I recalled the dream I’d had of the red-haired woman in chains. “I’ve stayed here longer than I should. I need to return,” she’d said and when I’d asked her where she was returning to, her response had been ‘To the stars.’ I didn’t understand what she meant then, but now I did. I understood why she’d looked as if she were in pain, it was because she knew exactly what was going to happen if she remained here.“You’re wrong about me,” I said to him, “I am a werewolf, just like any other.”“But you’re not. You wondered earlier if it was strange for a werewolf to have pure white fur—yes. It is rare because it has never been. It is a symbol of your purity.”“You haven’t told me what it is you want from me,” I reminded.“Partnership.” he said, “I realized I didn’t have to kill you, that would simply be a waste. You are as much my blood as hers and so, I want us to work together. Soon, the moon goddess would be no more and only then can Hades retake his place. Together we will purge this ea

The eerie feeling grew with each passing minute. The silence between us felt heavier than ever.I spotted Katalier walking towards us, but the moment she sighted us, she turned around, as if considering taking a different route, before thinking better of it.“Hey,” I said to her, but she gave no response as she walked past us, her head down. What I didn’t miss was the dark circles around her eyes and how she’d kept her gaze away from Gideon.“What is wrong with her?” I asked Gideon and he shrugged uncaringly. That too was strange, he was always one to speak up for her and now he didn’t seem to care in the least what could be going wrong with her.He led me down the dungeons. “What exactly is Cassian doing here?”“He didn’t say, but what he did say was that he didn’t want to be interrupted.”Gideon led me to the interrogation room. I stepped in and he followed in next, before shutting the door behind us.“Where is he?”“Over there,” he pointed to where Cassian laid on the floor, shir

I woke up with a start.“Bad dream?” a voice questioned, but it wasn’t Cassian, it was Gideon leaning by the door. I robbed my eyes.“No, just a… strange one.”“What was it about?”I thought back to the ‘bottle of tears’ and decided it was too weird of a story to share.“Can’t remember. Where is Cassian?”“He had something to attend to.”Gideon looked away when I stepped out of the sheets naked. I headed to the dressing room and threw on an overly large shirt over a pair of cotton trousers, before rejoining him.“Have you ever seen a white wolf before?” I asked, and he froze at the question.“What?”“When I shifted, I noticed the color of my fur had changed, it was… white. Like white-white.” I recounted.“I think that’s really cool,” he said after a moment of silence and I smiled.“It is. But it’s also very strange.” I pointed and he nodded in agreement.“I’ve never seen a white wolf before, but I’d love to see one.”“I can’t really shift at will,” I truthfully admitted. The last ti

ELOISE’S POVWhere was I? The building looked nothing like others I’d seen before. It was old, with vines crawling up its cracked walls and floors. Whoever stayed here must have long abandoned the place—or so I’d thought. Then, I heard the soft music—there were no words to the song, but still it sounded sad, like a plea for help. I followed the beautiful sound, desperate to find its singer. The further I went, the darker and mistier the place became. I stepped into a room which was almost completely overgrown with vines, and there a woman sat. Huge chains had been secured around her wrists, ankles and neck. She had red hair strangely similar to mine and I couldn’t shake off the feeling that I knew her. Her song came to an end and finally she stared up at me. She had blue eyes—dreamy, hypnotizing, eyes that seemed to steal the breath right out of my lungs.“I know who you are,” I said to her.“Yes, you do.” Her voice was just as beautiful as the music she’d been singing and I couldn’t

GIDEON’S POVI’d gotten used to the voices now that I only ignored them. They weren’t real—all ghosts, or as Darth called them, umbrae. That’s what I’d thought until I felt something grab onto my arm, those cold, bony hands were real.“So… so hungry,” it gritted, like a starved creature. “Maybe I’ll eat you,” it whispered, as if in thought. I shoved it off me, pulling free from its grip. I took a step backward, but its cold hands found me again and this time it wasted no time in digging its teeth into my neck. I gripped his head, tightening my hold until its bony skull cracked apart and his body went limb. I let go and he fell to the floor with a clatter, like a sack of bones. How many more of those were here? How long would it take before the voices got to me?My stomach grumbled in hunger and I found myself wondering how long I could hold on before I turned to the very creature I’d just killed. Then I saw the flicker of light. The light got brighter, and I blinked letting my eyes ad

CASSIAN’S POVI’d been heading into my office when I spotted her. She knocked on the door to a guestroom—only, someone was inside. Jefferson Scott. The first thing I wondered was what he was doing here. But I figured he wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t agreed to this.I tried reaching for the anger I once felt whenever I saw him, but there was nothing, and while I found that very strange, it was more proof that Eloise was right, a part of me was missing. The look in Jefferson’s eyes was one I'd seen before, it was of a man who was madly in love. Eloise stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him. She’d told me he was the father of her daughter and they’d separated, but there didn’t seem to be even an ounce of animosity between them, on the contrary, they seemed comfortable around each other.A flicker of jealousy rose in my chest. Jealousy that she was with him, and not with me and that made zero sense because until yesterday, I didn’t even know her. I thought about last night, h

‘What does death feel like?’ I’d asked my mother many years ago when I was no more than a girl. She’d been startled by the question; her response came a while later. ‘Freedom,’ she’d finally answered, ‘Death is freedom because it takes away all your worries and fears.’Turns out that was a lie.“She

As a child, I used to love dancing. So much so that I pleaded with my parents to take dancing lessons back in the Winter-Hill Pack. When I danced, I became one with the music. In a way, it was freedom. Not anymore. Now it was no more than a performance. It was me trying to be something I was not.

I was in a different ward, this one was smaller, emptier.I tried seating up, only to notice the tubes connected to my body. I pulled them out, before staggering to my feet. The room s
