The ground beneath me trembled as the Lycan King took another step forward.

His presence was suffocating. The sheer weight of his aura pressed down on the clearing, forcing the dark trees to creak and groans under the pressure. Rogues froze in fear at the mere mention of his name, yet here he was, standing over me in the freezing snow.

"Stay... back," I choked out, my voice barely a whisper.

Every breath felt like inhaling shards of glass. The rejection bond from Kael was a gaping, bleeding wound in my soul, while the silver fire of my awakening wolf threatened to tear my body apart from the inside out.

Lucien Draven didn't listen. He moved with a terrifying, fluid grace, closing the distance between us until his towering frame blocked out the moonlight.

He dropped to one knee in the snow, completely ignoring the frost biting through his dark, expensive trousers. Up close, the scent of ancient stone and intoxicating blood-wine washed over me, numbing the phantom scent of Kael's chocolate and frost.

Slowly, deliberately, he reached out a gloved hand.

I flinched, expecting pain. I braced myself for the cruelty I had grown so accustomed to back at the Bloodstone Pack.

Instead, the moment his leather-clad fingers gently brushed against my jaw, a shockwave of pure, blinding electricity rippled through my skin.

It wasn't the agonizing burn of Kael's rejection. It was a soothing, deeply rooted heat that instantly began to knit the shattered pieces of my soul back together. The screaming agony in my chest suddenly quieted, replaced by a profound, echoing calm.

Lucien froze. His luminescent silver eyes flared violently, the pupils dilating until they were almost entirely black.

"Your wolf," Lucien growled softly, his voice vibrating deep in his chest. "She isn't an Omega. What are you?"

I couldn't answer him. The brief respite from the pain drained the last of my adrenaline. My eyelids grew impossibly heavy, the world around me blurring into streaks of silver and shadow.

The last thing I felt before darkness claimed me was the Lycan King lifting my broken body into his massive, unyielding arms, pulling me securely against his chest.

A sharp, agonising roar shattered the peace of my unconsciousness.

My eyes flew open. I wasn't in the snow anymore. I was lying on a plush, velvet sofa inside a moving luxury vehicle. The interior was sleek and tinted, the engine humming quietly beneath us.

Sitting across from me, staring out the window with his jaw tightly clenched, was Lucien.

"You're awake," he said coldly, not even turning his head to look at me. The warmth from the forest was gone, replaced by his legendary, emotionless mask.

"Where... where are we?" I asked, sitting up hastily. My body still ached, but the bleeding sensation in my chest had dwindled to a dull, throbbing ache.

"We are crossing the border into the Lycan Realm," Lucien replied smoothly, finally turning his silver gaze to lock onto mine. "You were dying in the snow. I do not tolerate corpses on my borders."

"I didn't ask you to save me," I snapped, the defensive mechanism I had built over years of abuse instantly kicking in. "I can take care of myself."

A dark, dangerous smirk tugged at the corner of Lucien's lips. "Is that what you call lying face down in a snowbank, bleeding out from a broken mate bond? Taking care of yourself?"

I flinched, looking down at my hands. The servant’s apron was gone, replaced by a soft, oversized black sweater that smelled heavily of him. The reminder of Kael's public humiliation slammed back into my mind, bringing a wave of bitter shame with it.

"He rejected me," I whispered, hating how weak my voice sounded. "He wanted a political alliance. I was just the pack omega."

Lucien’s smirk vanished, his eyes hardening into flint. "Then your Alpha is a fool. The mate bond is a sacred gift, not a bargaining chip for lesser wolves."

Before I could question what he meant, the luxury SUV suddenly slammed to a violent halt. The tires screeched against the asphalt, throwing me forward against the leather seats.

Outside, the dark forest was suddenly illuminated by dozens of bright, blazing headlights.

"Your Majesty!" the Lycan driver called out from the front, his voice tense. "We have a blockade. It’s the Bloodstone Pack warriors. They’ve blocked the border crossing."

My heart hammered against my ribs. Kael. He had sent them after me.

Lucien didn't even blink. He slowly stood up inside the spacious vehicle, adjusting the cuffs of his dark shirt. "Stay here," he commanded, his voice dripping with an ancient authority that left no room for argument.

He opened the door and stepped out into the freezing night air.

Desperate to see, I scrambled to the tinted window, pressing my face against the glass.

Blocking the road were four heavy-duty trucks, their high beams blinding. Standing in front of the vehicles were ten fully armed Bloodstone warriors, led by none other than Beta Thomas—Kael’s right-hand man and one of my primary tormentors.

"King Lucien!" Thomas shouted, trying to sound brave, though I could see his hands trembling as he held his silver-tipped spear. "We mean no disrespect to the Lycan Crown. But you have something that belongs to us. A runaway omega servant crossed into your territory. We demand her return."

Lucien stood alone in the middle of the road, the wind whipping his dark hair across his face. He didn't look threatened. He looked profoundly bored.

"You demand?" Lucien repeated, his voice quiet, yet it echoed through the entire forest like a thunderclap.

Thomas swallowed hard, stepping forward. "She is a criminal of the Bloodstone Pack. She fled after committing a crime against Alpha Kael. Hand her over, and we will leave peacefully."

Inside the car, my breath caught. A crime? I hadn't done anything except exist. Kael was trying to hunt me down to silence me, ensuring I could never tell anyone that he had rejected his fated mate for power.

Lucien took a slow, deliberate step toward the line of warriors. The air around him began to warp, the temperature dropping instantly as a dark, oppressive shadow bled out from his silhouette.

"The girl is under my protection," Lucien stated, his silver eyes flashing with a terrifying, predatory light. "And what enters my territory belongs to me."

"Alpha Kael will see this as an act of war!" Thomas yelled, his wolf pushing to the surface in a desperate bid to fight off the Lycan King's crushing aura.

Lucien stopped. He threw his head back and laughed—a dark, humorless sound that sent chills straight down my spine.

"An act of war?" Lucien's voice dropped to a lethal whisper. In the blink of an eye, he blurred.

He was so fast the human eye couldn't track him. A second later, he appeared directly in front of Thomas. Before the Beta could even raise his spear, Lucien’s hand shot out, wrapping around Thomas's throat and lifting the massive warrior entirely off the ground with one hand.

The other nine warriors instantly drew their weapons, but they were frozen in place, paralyzed by the sheer, unadulterated terror radiating off the Lycan King.

"Tell your boy-Alpha," Lucien hissed into Thomas's face, his claws extending, drawing thin lines of blood along the Beta's neck, "that if he wants this girl, he can come try to take her from my throne room himself. But remind him of one thing..."

Lucien tightened his grip, the sound of Thomas’s throat bones popping echoing through the quiet night.

"...the last Alpha who marched against me became the rug in my study."

Lucien tossed the Beta aside like a piece of trash. Thomas slammed into the hood of his truck, coughing violently and gasping for air.

"Turn your trucks around," Lucien commanded the remaining warriors. "Before I decide to feed your wolves to the crows."

Without another word, the terrified Bloodstone warriors dragged their Beta back into the trucks. The engines roared to life, and the vehicles hastily reversed, fleeing back into the safety of their own territory.

Lucien turned back toward the SUV. He didn't have a single scratch on him. His expression was completely blank again as he opened the door and climbed back inside, settling into his seat across from me.

I stared at him, my heart pounding, a mixture of awe and terror swirling in my chest. No one had ever defended me like that. No one had ever fought for me.

"Why did you do that?" I asked softly. "I'm just an omega. Why risk a conflict with a major pack for me?"

Lucien leaned back, crossing one leg over the other. His silver eyes locked onto mine, boring straight into my soul.

"I told you, Lyra. I don't tolerate trash on my borders," he said smoothly. "But more importantly... your wolf is beginning to wake up. And her scent isn't just wild lilies anymore."

He leaned forward, his face inches from mine, the dark chocolate and blood-wine scents mixing into an intoxicating haze.

"It smells like royalty," Lucien murmured, his eyes scanning my face with a terrifying intensity. "And I intend to find out exactly whose blood runs through your veins."

Suddenly, the vehicle jolted as it passed over a massive stone threshold. Outside the window, the dark forest cleared, revealing a sprawling, breathtaking mountain kingdom. A massive, ancient castle made of black stone towered over the valley, illuminated by thousands of glowing crystals.

The Lycan Citadel. The most heavily fortified and dangerous territory in the world.

The car pulled up to the grand gates of the castle, stopping before a flight of massive stone steps where hundreds of Lycan guards stood at attention.

Lucien stood up, opening the door. He stepped out, then turned and extended his hand to me.

"Welcome to your new home, Lyra Ashbourne," he said, his voice echoing in the quiet night. "Tomorrow, your training begins. If you are going to stay in my castle, you will learn how to fight."

I looked at his outstretched hand, then back toward the border I had just crossed. I was leaving my old life behind. I was no longer the broken omega servant.

I reached out, placing my hand in his. The same spark of electricity flared between us, stronger this time, sending a shiver of anticipation down my spine.

As my feet hit the stone steps, a sudden, blinding pain shot through my mind.

It wasn't the rejection bond. It was a vision.

In my mind's eye, I saw Kael standing in the Bloodstone packhouse, his face contorted in a mixture of rage and absolute horror. He was holding a glowing, ancient prophecy parchment, his hands shaking violently as he stared at a portrait of the legendary Moon Queen. A portrait that looked exactly like me.

What have I done? Kael’s voice echoed in my head, filled with a sudden, suffocating regret. She wasn't an omega...

The vision snapped shut, leaving me gasping for air on the castle steps.

Lucien caught me by the waist, his grip tightening as he looked down at me, his brow furrowing. "What is it?"

I looked up at the Lycan King, a cold, dangerous smile slowly spreading across my lips as the silver fire in my veins roared to life.

"My old Alpha," I whispered, the power of the Moon Queen vibrating in my voice. "He just realized his greatest mistake."

The sky above the Lycan border had turned the color of bruised iron. A torrential rain began to fall, freezing the moment it hit the dark, jagged stone of the Citadel's outer gates.I stood on the high stone parapet, hidden from view by the deep shadows of the battlements. Down below, the iron gates groaned as a massive force gathered outside.Dozens of Bloodstone vehicles and armed riders formed a dense, hostile semicircle in the snow. At the very front, astride a massive black warhorse, stood Kael.He was no longer the pristine, smiling Alpha from the ballroom. His formal uniform was soaked through, mud splattered across his chest, and his sea-storm eyes were bloodshot and wild. He looked like a man possessed, his knuckles white as he gripped the reins. The heavy iron gates of the Citadel slowly ground open.Lucien walked out alone. He didn't bring an army. He didn't even draw a weapon. He simply stepped into the freezing rain, his long black coat trailing in the slush, his hands tu

The following morning, the Citadel did not wake to the sound of birds, but to the rhythmic, bone-jarring thrum of training daggers hitting target dummies.I stood in the center of the subterranean training hall, my chest heaving. Sweat slicked my skin, and my muscles burned with a fatigue I had never known. The training armor they had strapped me into—lightweight dragon-hide, black as coal—felt heavy and unnatural."Again," Lucien’s voice cut through the air, cool and detached. He stood ten paces away, his arms crossed over his chest. He hadn't lifted a finger to help me, yet his presence was a constant, crushing weight that forced me to be better.I lunged forward, blade outstretched. I was fast—faster than any omega had a right to be—but Lucien didn't even shift his feet. He simply flicked his wrist, and the wooden training sword in his hand caught my blade, sending a jarring vibration up my arm that nearly made me drop it."You are fighting like a pack servant," he critiqued, his s

The grand heavy doors of the Lycan Citadel slammed shut behind us with a deafening thud. The sound echoed through the massive black stone foyer, sealing me away from the only world I had ever known.I stood shivering on the cold marble floor. The oversized black sweater Lucien had given me swallowed my small frame, reaching down to my thighs. Hundreds of Lycan guards stood at strict attention along the perimeter of the room, their silver eyes tracking my every breath."Take her to the high tower suite," Lucien ordered, his voice echoing authoritatively off the vaulted ceilings. He didn't look back at me as he tossed his heavy coat to a waiting attendant. "Bathe her, feed her, and ensure she doesn't leave the room.""Wait," I called out, taking a step forward. My voice sounded small against the vastness of the hall. "Am I your prisoner?"Lucien stopped. He turned slowly, his sharp, aristocratic features completely unreadable under the glow of the crystal chandeliers."A prisoner is kep

The scent of roasting wild boar and expensive French perfume clung to the stone walls of the Bloodstone Packhouse. Tonight was the Ascension Ball.It was the night Kael Blackthorn would officially take his place as Alpha. It was also the night the entire pack expected him to announce his political betrothal to Lady Victoria.I kept my head low, the rough fabric of my servant’s apron scratching against my collarbone. I hauled another heavy tray of crystal flutes up from the kitchen. My hands were raw, chapped from scrubbing grease since dawn."Move it, Omega," a sharp voice snapped. Before I could step aside, a heavy combat boot shot out. I tripped, my knees slamming hard against the polished marble floor. The tray flew from my grip. Crystal shattered in a deafening cascade, sending shards of glass and expensive champagne spraying right over the designer heels of Victoria herself.Silence rippled through the grand foyer like a dropping stone."You clumsy, worthless little bitch," Victo
