It was one of those days.

A meaningfully boring one.

Eira had been awake for nearly an hour already.

Interestingly enough, she hadn't done anything.

Her day was just starting unlike the others who had been running around. She had been awake because she couldn't find sleep. Her mind wasn't at rest. At this point, it was normal since she wasn't next to him.

The corridor outside the upper chambers still chilled from the cold of the night. The brick walls were ice against skin and the only warmth came from the lanterns that had died a while ago.

Her bare feet made almost no sound on the dark wooden floor as she carried the folded linens down the hall. The bundles were warm from the laundry room below, steam still clinging faintly to the cloth.

She nudged one of the doors open with her shoulder.

Inside, the guest chamber smelled faintly of pine smoke and expensive soap. Someone had stayed here last night. The bed had been left half ruined, sheets twisted and pulled loose in the way mannerless people did when they slept deeply and expected someone else to fix it.

Eira set the clean linens on the chair and began stripping the bed.

The work was simple. Quick hands, practiced movements. She had been doing this long enough that she'd gained muscle memory for every single step.

Pillows shaken while being stripped.

Sheets unfolded and folded.

Blankets straightened and well placed.

Rooms swept cleaned leaving not even a grain of sand.

She worked fast because she liked finishing the upper rooms before the rest of the house filled with noise.

The quiet part of the morning belonged to the servants.

Downstairs a door slammed.

Someone cursed.

Eira paused for a second, listening.

Probably the kitchen boys fighting again. They always fought when they thought no one important was awake yet.

She finished remaking the bed and stepped back to inspect it. Smooth corners, no wrinkles. Perfect enough that no one could complain about it later.

As if they could complain about her.

The authority her mate held was enough to stop them and reduce all complaints to whispers.

Just like now.

She had stepped out of the room into the kitchen when some servants looked up at her before going back to work.

Eira quickly fit herself in washing her hands before rolling her sleeves and starting to knead dough.

Across from her, someone threw a snide remark that was very much meant for Eira.

"C'mon Anna, it needs to come out perfectly. Not all of us have the privilege to sleep with a commander and bypass rules."

Eira only smirked in controlled aggression. But of course it didn't stop.

"Don't say that Steph, it takes a lot to be able to seduce a high ranking commander—"

"It doesn't matter," Steph snorted. "A low born Omega sleeping with a high ranking commander is nothing but a whor—"

plat!

Steph didn't get to finish her statement before a dough hit her square in the face.

Then Eira picked up the knife that was beside her and swirled it in her hand before throwing it at Steph.

The knife flew past her head and embedded itself in the wall beside.

"Fun fact—" Eira pointed. "The commander I've been sleeping with also taught me how to defend myself against physical and verbal fights."

She walked away with Steph fuming and someone screaming Eira!

Eira ignored them as she went to gather the dirty sheets and stepped back into the corridor.

The windows along the hall were tall and narrow. Pale morning light had begun sliding through the glass, turning the polished floor a soft grey.

She liked this part of the house.

Most servants never came up here. The upper levels belonged to the higher ranks and their guests. Only a few trusted maids were allowed to work these rooms without supervision.

Eira had earned that trust years ago.

Or maybe her commander lover had made it so.

Voices drifted up the staircase ahead.

Two men, arguing in low tones.

Eira slowed without meaning to. Not enough to look suspicious. Just enough to hear.

“…shouldn’t be invited,” one of them muttered.

“He’s the Alpha’s guest.”

“That doesn’t mean we should trust him.”

Their voices faded as they moved deeper into the lower hall.

Eira adjusted the bundle of sheets in her arms and continued walking.

She reached the staircase and started down.

The warmth from the other kitchen drifted through the lower floor, carrying the smell of baking bread and strong tea.

One of the younger maids rushed past her, nearly knocking the linens from her arms.

“Sorry,” the girl gasped without slowing.

Eira shifted the bundle and kept walking.

The laundry room sat behind the kitchen, warm and thick with steam. Two older women were already inside, arguing quietly while they sorted through the piles of clothing.

“Morning,” Eira said.

One of them glanced up.

“Already finished upstairs?”

“Yes ma'am.”

The woman nodded approvingly.

“Good.”

Eira dropped the dirty sheets into the basin and began separating the fabrics the way she had been taught. Thick blankets first. Guest linens second. The more delicate fabrics last.

The kitchen door creaked open behind her.

“Eira.”

She turned.

The head maid stood there, arms folded neatly into the sleeves of her dark uniform.

“Yes?”

“Come with me.”

Eira wiped her hands quickly and followed her back into the hallway.

They walked in silence.

They stopped outside one of the larger doors along the corridor.

Guest quarters.

Important ones.

The head maid turned to her now.

“You’ll be attending this room for the next few days.”

Eira glanced at the door, then back at her.

“Is someone staying here?”

“Yes.”

“Who?”

Tina studied her for a moment.

Then she said quietly, “Someone important from the Embermoon pack.”

Eira nodded.

That meant two things.

The guest was powerful.

And the guest was trouble.

The head maid pushed the door open and stepped aside.

“Be careful,” she said.

Eira walked into the room.

She crossed the room slowly, setting the fresh linens down near the bed.

Outside the tall window the forest stretched quiet and endless.

The world beyond their small pack.

Eira stood there for a moment, staring out at the trees.

  • The Alpha's Lost Luna    29: Borrowed Home

Morning arrived slowly over Embermoon. The first light of dawn spilled across fortress walls and snow packed courtyards, turning stone silver beneath the pale winter sky. Smoke drifted upward from dozens of chimneys while warriors changed shifts along the walls and servants hurried through corridors carrying baskets, breakfast trays and armfuls of firewood. The fortress always woke early. It had long before Evren was born and it would continue long after he was gone.High above the rest of the settlement, within the Alpha's quarters, Eira remained buried beneath enough blankets to survive a blizzard.Four days. She had been back in Embermoon for four days.Four days of sleeping in Evren's bed.Four days of servants.Four days of guards.Four days of luxury.Four days of hearing the same title.Mistress.Nobody said it cruelly. That would've been easier to ignore. The guards said it respectfully. The servants said it respectfully. Tina said it respectfully. Every person she encountered

"Mistress?"Holden looked genuinely offended. He stood on the opposite side of the war table staring at Evren like he'd just announced plans to burn down Embermoon himself. "You offered her to be your mistress? Forgive me, Alpha, but this is Eira we're talking about."Evren didn't even look up. His finger continued tracing routes across the map spread over the table. "Take Eastreach."Holden blinked."What?""Take Eastreach," Evren repeated. "It's smaller than Highbranch. We can secure it before winter and establish a permanent trade route before Sandspire notices what we're doing."Leander glanced up from a stack of reports and immediately groaned. "Moon Goddess, he's doing that thing again.""What thing?" Holden asked."The thing where he pretends we're discussing military campaigns because he doesn't want to discuss his personal disasters.""I am discussing military campaigns.""No, you're avoiding me." Holden folded his arms while Evren calmly moved another pawn across the map. "

Eira looked away, remaining silent. Evren watched her for a long moment before sighing. He wanted answers. Moon Goddess, he wanted answers. Seven years of questions had followed him into every battlefield, every council meeting, every sleepless night. But she was here now. Alive. Breathing. Close enough to touch."Fine." He rubbed a hand over his face. "Keep your secrets for one more night then. You're not going anywhere."Eira's throat tightened unexpectedly. He should have been angry. Maybe he was. The worst part was that he was trying not to be."In the meantime," he continued quietly, his hand settling against her leg, "you will stay here."Eira looked up. Something in his expression made her chest hurt. Not because he looked furious, but because he looked tired—exhausted in a way she had never seen before. Then he added, "You will be my mistress."The words hit her like a slap. Mistress. Not Luna. Not mate. Mistres

  • The Alpha's Lost Luna    26: Past & Present

Liana’s gaze stayed on Eira after the words left her mouth. “What is this whore doing on my mate’s lap?” Cold air still drifted through the open doors behind her, carrying snow and pine and the sharp scent of winter into the room. Tina hovered near the entrance looking horrified, fingers clenched tightly in her skirts after obviously failing to stop her. But the strongest scent in the room wasn’t snow. It was Evren. Burning cedarwood, smoke, frost. Possessive. The second Liana entered, it thickened instinctively around Eira like his wolf reacted before the man did. Eira felt it immediately. So did Liana. Her eyes flickered once. Tiny. Almost invisible. Then they dragged slowly over Eira sitting against Evren’s chest, the silver sleeping clothes, the damp curls spilling over bare shoulders, the way Evren’s hand rested low

AJ looked up instantly from the couch near the windows. His expression flattened. Boo’s mouth twitched slightly.“You came all the way here shirtless just to flirt?”Holden glanced down at himself casually. “You noticed.”Boo snorted softly under his breath.Behind Holden, Snow finally looked annoyed. “Uncle Holden keeps talking instead of taking us inside.”“I am building connections,” Holden defended.“You’re staring,” Forrest corrected sleepily.Holden ignored that completely. His eyes dragged over Boo again slowly and somehow shamelessly. Fresh curls. Warm skin. Loose dark robes hanging carelessly from one shoulder. Moon Goddess. The bath earlier genuinely made Boo look unfair.Holden had seen beautiful people before. Embermoon was full of nobles obsessed with breeding pretty children. This felt different. Boo looked soft in a way that made a person want to ruin their own life a little.AJ’s fingers

  • The Alpha's Lost Luna    24: The Heirs Of Winter

The murmurings spreading across the throne room slowly dragged Evren back into the present. The massive chamber no longer felt silent now that the shock had settled. Whispers rolled beneath the high ceilings in restless waves while nobles leaned toward one another openly, silver jewelry glinting beneath candlelight as they stared at Eira and the twins like they were witnessing prophecy crawl out of the grave itself. But Evren barely heard any of it.She was real.Actually here. Not another phantom scent haunting empty corridors at midnight. Not another hallucination lingering on winter air only to disappear the second he chased after it.Real.Standing close enough for him to touch. And now that she stood directly in front of him, he realized something else. Her scent had changed. The sweetness he remembered still existed beneath everything else, warm cocoa and soft wildflowers, but now another

Two days in Embermoon pack and it was glaring that they were being held hostage. Alpha Ethan couldn't possibly and didn't care about Evren's feelings or emotions. He had given a simple command. Get married and make an heir. The omega mate could be kept as a concubine. In those two days, Evren w

It was barely a week later when Evren was summoned by the Alpha of Embermoon pack. A pack he had heard of only in fragments, a pack that was surrounded by cold and were indeed very brutal. A pack which most packs would either make an ally or avoid entirely. Featherwaters was one of them. Which

Evren didn't let go of her right away. They stood longer than they should, water still dripping off him. Eira pressed her forehead into his chest again, right over his heart and he tightened his arm around her. "You smell like you were ready to kill someone," she said quietly. He huffed. "I was.

It was before the first winter of the year set in when they left. Well, not exactly of their own will but nonetheless, they left. Meira had known it would end eventually. One too many nights, she had enjoyed his warmth, his scent familiar all over her, her body, her belongings. But one thing
