LOGINKaren POV
"I came to save you," she whispered, rushing toward the chains. Her voice was sharp, cutting me off before I could speak again.
Her face was pale in the dim torchlight, but her eyes burned with determination. "I know youāre not guilty, my lady. I couldnāt stand by and watch them kill you. Iām sorry I didnāt come sooner⦠I was waiting for the right moment, when the guards wouldnāt suspect a thing."
My throat tightened.
"Th-thank you," I croaked, voice breaking.
The cuffs bit deeper into my wrists, but the ache in my chest was worse. She was risking her life for me.
The metallic click of the lock echoed like thunder, and the chains slid free.
"Hurry," she urged, pressing a cloak into my hands. "Before itās too late."
We slipped into the narrow escape tunnel, breath ragged, footsteps too loud in the silence. Yvonne glanced at me quickly.
āLuna, please stay safe.ā
I grabbed her wrist. āArenāt you coming with me? Theyāll suspect you. I canāt let you stay behind.ā
She shook her head sharply. āNo, Luna. If I vanish, theyāll know. Iāll buy you time.ā She pulled me into a quick, desperate hug. āGo. Now!ā
I forced my legs to move, ignoring the pain lancing through my body. The trees blurred around me, branches clawing at my skin, but I didnāt stop. I had nothing left in that pack anymore.
The border was close. I knew every inch of this land it was a map burned into my mind. It was easy to avoid patrols, but the border was another story. My heart seized when I saw four massive wolves stationed ahead.
Panic surged. I swerved sharply, nearly colliding with a tree in my frenzy to stay hidden. A chilling howl tore through the night, signaling my presence. My heart hammered. I might outrun these ones, but Xavier or his Beta? No chance.
I risked a glance behind me four wolves were already chasing. My eyes locked on the line of charred bushes marking the border. Almost there.
Just as my foot crossed the threshold, searing pain exploded in my leg. Jaws clamped around me, dragging me back. I screamed, collapsing to my knees, fingers clawing at the dirt. I kicked and fought, but the bite sank deeper.
Snarls surrounded me. One wolf pinned me with its gaze while the others bared their teeth. My heart stuttered in terror.
And then
āAlpha,ā they chorused, bowing their heads.
I forced my eyes up. His presence hit me like a storm raw power, commanding and suffocating. My heart fluttered wildly, my vision swimming. Darkness swallowed me before I could even glimpse his face.
***********
My eyes snapped open, and I gasped. Pain tore through my skull, forcing me to collapse back into something soft.
I touched my temples, breathing through the ache, and slowly looked around. A massive bedroom. A soft bed beneath me. Comfort I hadnāt felt in⦠I couldnāt even remember. The peace of it broke me, and tears slipped down my cheeks.
āYouāre awake.ā
The deep voice made my stomach flutter. I sat up sharply, heart pounding, and saw him broad-shouldered, hands in his pockets, staring out the window.
āWhere am I?ā I whispered.
He turned slowly, and my breath caught at the sight of his sculpted chest and strong arms. His eyes were sharp, unreadable.
āI should be asking what you were doing in my territory,ā he said, his tone smooth but laced with authority.
āMate,ā Sally, my wolf, whispered.
āWhat?ā I hissed back at her. āSally, not now. Weāre in danger.ā
āOh, come on. Just admit it heās hot. Imagine running your hands down that chest. What do you think his abs look like?ā
I groaned. āIāve had enough of you, you horny wolf.ā I blocked her voice with effort.
He was still watching me, waiting. āYoung lady, I asked you a question.ā
āI⦠Iām sorry,ā I stammered. āI didnāt mean harm. I was just⦠passing by.ā
His eyes narrowed. āYouāre a Luna, arenāt you?ā
The word stung. My chest tightened, but I nodded. āYes. Ex-Luna.ā
āYour scent gave you away,ā he said with a smirk. Then he turned for the door. āRest. Youāll undergo initiation soon. Youāll need to prove yourself to stay in
this pack.ā
āThank you,ā I whispered. He left without a glance back.
Three Years Later Zaidenās POV My birthday was at the corner, Tomorrow, Adrian had been pressuring me to make it a celebration which I didnāt want a celebration. I hadnāt wanted one for three years. Adrian stubborn as always, refused to listen. āYouāre still my Alpha,ā he had said. āAnd if Karen was alive, she wouldāve wanted this for you. If you're worried about having to do everything your self, worry no more that's why we are here, everything will be covered by us. Invitation, food drinks, gifts everything you can think of.ā He said explained. "Fine, I'll be there, can you let me be now?" I asked. "Of course Alpha." He said and laughed and went back to his office. *On that morning* They had prepared a surprise for me when I woke up which I was grateful for, the brought their gift and wishes which I appreciated. *At the party* People trying too hard to pretend joy didnāt feel wrong around me, they tried to make the party interesting and it was. But I didn't tak
Zaiden's POV The next morning, I carried my daughter in my arms as I made my way toward Karen's room. This had become our routine. I would bring our little princess to her mother so they could spend time together. The baby was unusually fussy today. She kept whimpering softly against my chest. I kissed her forehead. "What's wrong, little one?" She only fussed harder. I frowned. That wasn't like her. As I approached the room, I noticed something strange. Too many frightened faces the healers where looking distressed. My footsteps slowed. Immediately, something felt wrong, terribly wrong. The closer I got, the heavier my chest became. Then suddenly a horrifying pain exploded through my entire body. I stopped walking. My breath caught. The baby immediately began crying. Something was wrong with the mate bond. My heart started racing. "No! No! No!" I kept repeating. A healer stepped forward. His face was pale. Terrified. "Alpha..." I looked at him. "What happene
Karen's POV Marciel, Zaden's mother came two days after the birth of my baby, I was so happy to see her because of course I haven't talked to her or even seen her since I got married to Zaiden. On the evening she came back, I had the maid come to take her things inside and I welcomed her into the house at first I thought it was me imagining it but she some how didn't really talk to me she just stared at me in disgust which I had absolutely no I deal why she had done that. I felt I had done something or was it because I couldn't get her what to eat? I asked myself. Then turning to her. "What would you like to have." I asked she looked at me in disappointment she shook her head and said to the maids. "Show me to my room." I was surprised because I don't recall doing anything to see her get angry at me, besides she just came. Maybe the journey was exhausting I thought trying to make excuses for her. Then it kept on happening and I kept assuring myself or was exhaustion from child
Four Months Later General POV "Push!" The midwife's voice rang through the room. Karen cried out in pain, her fingers clutching the sheets beneath her. Sweat covered her body and tears streamed down her face as another contraction tore through her. "You can do it, Luna! Just one more push!" Outside the room, Zaiden paced like a caged animal. His heart was pounding so hard he could hear it. Every scream that came from behind those doors felt like a blade slicing through his chest. Nothing had ever terrified him as much as hearing his mate in pain. Another scream echoed through the hallway. Zaiden stopped moving. His fists clenched. "Moon Goddess, please..." he whispered. Then suddenly, a baby's cry pierced through the air. The entire hallway fell silent. For a second, Zaiden couldn't breathe. The cry came again, his eyes widened. The baby was here. Without waiting for permission, he shoved the door open and rushed inside. His eyes immediately searched for only one p
Zaiden POV "Don't you ever talk about my mate that way." He sneered. "Karen is your weakness, Zaiden." The mention of Karen made my wolf stir violently. But I kept my face expressionless. "Say her name again." The threat in my voice was unmistakable. Cole smirked. He laughed. "Let's see what you've got," he said, laughing maniacally. A warrior burst into the clearing from the direction of the pack house. "Alpha!" The warrior stumbled to a stop. "Alpha..." His voice shook. "The restaurant was attacked." The entire world seemed to stop. Every muscle in my body locked. My blood ran cold. Karen. And with a deafening roar that echoed through the forest, I launched myself at Cole. Cole met me head-on. Our bodies collided with enough force to shake the ground beneath us. His jaws snapped toward my throat. I twisted away just in time and sank my teeth into his shoulder. Cole howled in pain and retaliated immediately, his claws raking across my side. A burning pain
Zaiden POV Few weeks later We where back together fully. Karen had resumed her work back at the restaurant and I was at the office, Alpha duties of course always keeping me busy. I was in my office attending to some documents when I heard a loud piercing scream outside. I hurriedly stood up and went by the window side to check. Just then, someone burst into the office. "Alpha! Alpha!" he called, panting heavily. "The Rogues have attacked us. Cole is their leader," he said. I turned to him, my eyes widened in shock. "What!!" "Get the warriors to strengthen their forces and the rest should protect women, children, and elderly. Take them to the safe house. We can't afford to loose them. Tell Charles to get to the restaurant immediately and protect my mate. If anything should happen to her, I'll have all of your heads rolling on the ground." "Yes, Alpha," he said and left. The doors shut behind him. I stood there for a few seconds longer, jaw tight, listening to the distant move
Karen POV āAfter the call. āI helped the warriors prepare for travel, documents, timing, logistics. Flights had to be clean and discreet. No unnecessary attention. I double-checked everything, making sure nothing was left to chance. Bags were packed, instructions clear, routes mapped out. āBy t
Zaiden POVI saw Xavier sitting with someone. It was Alpha Ralph, the alpha of Black Rose Pack. I guess he was his ally, so I greeted them with a nod and sat down. I guess we were waiting for the other alphas to arrive. Luckily, they arrived in no time, and we started the meeting immediately by int
Eryx POV I felt fear crawl into my body when I was about to delete the call log and heard footsteps. I deleted it immediately, and luckily it was already dark. I went to the back of a shelf in the office to hide. It wasnāt the Alphaās office; I think it was his secretaryās office. Luckily, the fo
I felt like we were probably going to be meeting with a few people. Well, that should be a reason for him to call for an urgent meeting this week. I took out a black tee top, rolled my hair into my normal jelly rolls, and wore a plain black trouser. I put on my studs and also opened a button to int
