Karenâs POV
âTraitor!â someone spat.
âNo mercy!â another bellowed from the back.
âDeath! Death!â roared a cluster of men, fists raised high.
I forced myself not to flinch, but each word cut deeper than a blade. My chest burned, my throat tightened. These were my people the ones I once healed, defended, smiled at. Now their eyes were full of poison.
My wrists throbbed against the chains. My pride told me to stay quiet, but inside I was screaming. Iâm not what you think. I never was. A child spat in my direction and my stomach twisted. If even the innocent had turned against me, then I truly had nothing left. I swallowed hard, but the bitterness wouldnât leave.
They wanted me broken. They wanted me begging. I watched the people I had once called my own now howling for my blood. Their cheers had once lifted me, but tonight their voices were the chains around my neck. Just one accusation, and I was a traitor.
Today was my execution. I always knew this day would come. Of course I wasnât happy it did, but I wasnât sad either.
âXavierâor âAlpha Xavierâ came close and spat in my face as he seethed through his teeth.
âI hate every gut in you,â he said in disgust.
I looked at him in amazement. This same mate who had once loved me now hated me because of an accusation that hadnât even gone through proper investigation.
âI, Alpha Xavier Grayson, reject you, Karen Denmark, as my mate and Luna,â he said with a smirk. âI donât need to make you accept the rejection, because youâll be gone in what seems like a couple of minutes.â He smiled evilly.
âI, Karen Denmark, accept your rejection,â I whispered, though each word tore through me like pieces of glass. The bond between us snapped, and for a moment I felt as though my very soul had been ripped apart. The pain wasnât just in my chest it spread through my veins like fire. My knees almost buckled, but I refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing me break. If this man I once called my âmateâ could hate me so easily, then I had no reason left to hold on.
âWell, letâs see how long that toughness of yours lasts. Youâll be the one crawling back to my feet thatâs if you even live to see daylight,â he said, laughing coldly.
He strolled back to his seat and ordered the herald to recite the accusations.
âBy the order of the council,â the herald said in a loud voice, âshe is guilty of the death of Luna Rose, Alpha Xavierâs mother.
Gasps erupted, followed by furious shouts.
âMurderer!â someone shrieked.
âRot in the dirt where you belong!â another spat.
My heart clenched. Luna Rose had once held me like her own daughter, and now her name was being used as a weapon against me.
ââand also guilty of treasonâ. The uproar doubled. Feet stomped against the ground. Men bellowed, âHang her!â Women hissed, âShe betrayed us all!â Even children screamed words they barely understood.
Treason. The word echoed in my skull, heavier than chains. I wanted to shout that it wasnât true, but my voice was trapped beneath their hatred.
I dared to glance at Xavier. His face was stone, unreadable, but he didnât stop them. My chest tightened. How could he stand there, silent, while they tore me apart? Didnât he remember the nights we planned a future together? Didnât he remember how fiercely I once believed in him?
I hereby announce that her sentence is death execution as concluded by the elders.â
I noticed the movement of the Beta. He walked quickly to Xavier and whispered something to him. His expression changed immediately. He stood up and said, âThis execution has been adjourned for reasons given that we are expecting the Lycan King, and he cannot come here to see this mess.â He dragged the last syllable while looking at me with disgust.
âGuards, take her back to the dungeon and keep a close eye on her,â he commanded. They dragged me away.
*******************
Back at the dungeon
The prison was colder this time a damp stone cell in one of the darkest corners of the dungeon where no sunlight reached. They chained me to the wall as the guards left.
I wanted to scream. How did my life turn out like this in just what felt like a few months? When I thought everything was going to be better, it only kept getting worse.
I leaned against the stone wall, my wrists burning inside the cuffs. They were already raw and bleeding, but that pain was nothing compared to what I felt in my heart.
I noticed the heavy footsteps of the guards at night and guessed they were retiring to bed. My body ached from where they had slammed me to the ground during the trial with the Lycan King. Then the cell door opened and I saw herâŚ, it was Yvonne, my personal maid.
My eyes widened. âYvonne?â I croaked, my voice raw and b
roken. âWhat are you doing here? If the guards find you..â
Three Years Later Zaidenâs POV My birthday was at the corner, Tomorrow, Adrian had been pressuring me to make it a celebration which I didnât want a celebration. I hadnât wanted one for three years. Adrian stubborn as always, refused to listen. âYouâre still my Alpha,â he had said. âAnd if Karen was alive, she wouldâve wanted this for you. If you're worried about having to do everything your self, worry no more that's why we are here, everything will be covered by us. Invitation, food drinks, gifts everything you can think of.â He said explained. "Fine, I'll be there, can you let me be now?" I asked. "Of course Alpha." He said and laughed and went back to his office. *On that morning* They had prepared a surprise for me when I woke up which I was grateful for, the brought their gift and wishes which I appreciated. *At the party* People trying too hard to pretend joy didnât feel wrong around me, they tried to make the party interesting and it was. But I didn't tak
Zaiden's POV The next morning, I carried my daughter in my arms as I made my way toward Karen's room. This had become our routine. I would bring our little princess to her mother so they could spend time together. The baby was unusually fussy today. She kept whimpering softly against my chest. I kissed her forehead. "What's wrong, little one?" She only fussed harder. I frowned. That wasn't like her. As I approached the room, I noticed something strange. Too many frightened faces the healers where looking distressed. My footsteps slowed. Immediately, something felt wrong, terribly wrong. The closer I got, the heavier my chest became. Then suddenly a horrifying pain exploded through my entire body. I stopped walking. My breath caught. The baby immediately began crying. Something was wrong with the mate bond. My heart started racing. "No! No! No!" I kept repeating. A healer stepped forward. His face was pale. Terrified. "Alpha..." I looked at him. "What happene
Karen's POV Marciel, Zaden's mother came two days after the birth of my baby, I was so happy to see her because of course I haven't talked to her or even seen her since I got married to Zaiden. On the evening she came back, I had the maid come to take her things inside and I welcomed her into the house at first I thought it was me imagining it but she some how didn't really talk to me she just stared at me in disgust which I had absolutely no I deal why she had done that. I felt I had done something or was it because I couldn't get her what to eat? I asked myself. Then turning to her. "What would you like to have." I asked she looked at me in disappointment she shook her head and said to the maids. "Show me to my room." I was surprised because I don't recall doing anything to see her get angry at me, besides she just came. Maybe the journey was exhausting I thought trying to make excuses for her. Then it kept on happening and I kept assuring myself or was exhaustion from child
Four Months Later General POV "Push!" The midwife's voice rang through the room. Karen cried out in pain, her fingers clutching the sheets beneath her. Sweat covered her body and tears streamed down her face as another contraction tore through her. "You can do it, Luna! Just one more push!" Outside the room, Zaiden paced like a caged animal. His heart was pounding so hard he could hear it. Every scream that came from behind those doors felt like a blade slicing through his chest. Nothing had ever terrified him as much as hearing his mate in pain. Another scream echoed through the hallway. Zaiden stopped moving. His fists clenched. "Moon Goddess, please..." he whispered. Then suddenly, a baby's cry pierced through the air. The entire hallway fell silent. For a second, Zaiden couldn't breathe. The cry came again, his eyes widened. The baby was here. Without waiting for permission, he shoved the door open and rushed inside. His eyes immediately searched for only one p
Zaiden POV "Don't you ever talk about my mate that way." He sneered. "Karen is your weakness, Zaiden." The mention of Karen made my wolf stir violently. But I kept my face expressionless. "Say her name again." The threat in my voice was unmistakable. Cole smirked. He laughed. "Let's see what you've got," he said, laughing maniacally. A warrior burst into the clearing from the direction of the pack house. "Alpha!" The warrior stumbled to a stop. "Alpha..." His voice shook. "The restaurant was attacked." The entire world seemed to stop. Every muscle in my body locked. My blood ran cold. Karen. And with a deafening roar that echoed through the forest, I launched myself at Cole. Cole met me head-on. Our bodies collided with enough force to shake the ground beneath us. His jaws snapped toward my throat. I twisted away just in time and sank my teeth into his shoulder. Cole howled in pain and retaliated immediately, his claws raking across my side. A burning pain
Zaiden POV Few weeks later We where back together fully. Karen had resumed her work back at the restaurant and I was at the office, Alpha duties of course always keeping me busy. I was in my office attending to some documents when I heard a loud piercing scream outside. I hurriedly stood up and went by the window side to check. Just then, someone burst into the office. "Alpha! Alpha!" he called, panting heavily. "The Rogues have attacked us. Cole is their leader," he said. I turned to him, my eyes widened in shock. "What!!" "Get the warriors to strengthen their forces and the rest should protect women, children, and elderly. Take them to the safe house. We can't afford to loose them. Tell Charles to get to the restaurant immediately and protect my mate. If anything should happen to her, I'll have all of your heads rolling on the ground." "Yes, Alpha," he said and left. The doors shut behind him. I stood there for a few seconds longer, jaw tight, listening to the distant move
Zaidenâs POVThe council hall reeked of smoke and blood. My warriors stood tense in a circle, their eyes flicking between me, the bound rogue at the center, and my Beta Cole.I stalked closer to the prisoner. âWho sent you?âThe wolf spat blood onto the floor but his voice trembled. âI was only a m

Zaidenâs POVThe footsteps of the warriors could be heard, the metallic scent of weapons mixing with pine and damp earth. My warriors fanned out in silence, trained, sharp-eyed.But still, my wolf prowled inside me, uneasy. Something wasnât right.I cast a glance at Cole, who padded beside me. His
Zaidenâs POVThe council hall still smelled of blood and smoke, but it wasnât the rogues that lingered in my mind. It was her words.âMaybe I was a mistake.âThey cut deeper than any blade. And when I reached for her, when I tried to hold her, she pulled away. Since then, sheâd avoided me at every
