Isla moved quietly through the hall of the Silver Crest Pack house. Her bare feet pressed softly against the cold stone floor. She kept her head low and her hands busy with the tray of food she carried. The smell of roasted meat filled the air but she ignored it.

It had been ten years since her parents died. Ten years of being blamed for their deaths. Ten years of being called weak and useless. And ten years of Damon making her life miserable.

She remembered when she was twelve. Her parents had hugged her tight before the fire. Then everything went black. Now she was an omega slave. Wolfless, helpless, and despised.

Damon’s voice cut through her thoughts.

“Watch where you’re going, omega” he sneered from the staircase above. “You’d trip over your own shadow if I didn’t push you.”

Isla lowered her eyes and kept walking. She had learned a long time ago that looking at him only made things worse.

“I’m not trying to trip,” she whispered, almost to herself.

“Don’t talk back” Damon barked, his eyes flashing. “Or I’ll find a new way to remind you that you’re worthless.”

Isla’s fingers tightened around the tray. She wanted to yell, to fight, but she didn’t. Not yet. Survival meant silence.

She entered the dining hall where the pack elders sat. Their eyes followed her like she was a shadow. They didn’t speak, but their disapproval was louder than any words. She set the tray down on the long table.

“You forgot the bread again” one of the younger pack members said, smirking.

“I’m sorry” Isla said quietly.

“You’re always sorry,” Damon said, stepping closer. His presence made the air heavier. “Maybe if you worked harder, you wouldn’t be so useless.”

Isla lowered her gaze. She felt the old familiar ache in her chest. But something inside her stirred. She had survived this long. She could survive another day.

Her wolfless body made her weak in the eyes of the pack, but they did not know the truth. Her wolf was bound. Hidden. Waiting.

“Bring the alpha’s wine” Damon ordered, turning to her.

“Yes,” Isla said, bowing.

She poured the wine into a golden cup, hands shaking slightly. Damon snatched it from her hands.

“You spill one drop, and you’ll regret it,” he said.

Isla swallowed the lump in her throat. She didn’t respond. Words were dangerous with him.

Later that evening, she cleaned the alpha’s study. Damon leaned against the doorway, watching.

“You think you can hide from me?” he asked.

“I’m not hiding” Isla said softly.

Damon chuckled darkly. “Everything about you is hiding. Your face, your eyes, even your fear. You’re pathetic.”

“Maybe” she said quietly. “But I survived.”

Damon’s smile twisted. “Surviving isn’t living. You don’t know what that means.”

Isla looked down. She did know. Living was dangerous. Living meant pain. But surviving… surviving was something she was good at.

Her mind drifted to the ceremony that would happen tomorrow. Damon would become Alpha. Maybe then he would banish her. Maybe she would finally be free.

She allowed herself a small hope.

But she did not let herself dream too much. Dreaming only led to disappointment.

The next morning the hall was filled with pack members. The air smelled of incense and blood. Damon stood tall at the center, dressed in ceremonial robes. Isla kept to the side, invisible to most.

The elder spoke, chanting words she didn’t understand. Power and energy flowed through the room. Her skin tingled. Something was happening. Something that made her heart race and her stomach twist.

And then it snapped.

A bolt of heat shot through her chest. Her knees shook. She gasped and looked up. Damon froze. His eyes widened, his lips parted.

“You…” he whispered.

She didn’t understand. I didn't have time to think. The bond… it connected them. The mate bond.

Damon stepped back, almost tripping. “No… this isn’t possible” he said, his voice low and filled with fear.

Isla’s heart pounded. Her mind screamed. What did this mean? She felt something deep inside, pulling her toward him. Warmth. Anger. Desire. Fear.

“You’re my mate” the elder said, voice booming. “The bond cannot lie”

Damon’s face twisted in disgust. “I… I don’t… I can’t…”

“Yes you can,” the elder said. “You are an Alpha. You cannot reject your mate. Not without consequences to the pack.”

Isla’s stomach sank. She had hoped for freedom. She had hoped for exile. But now she was trapped.

Damon’s jaw tightened. He turned away, looking anywhere but at her.

“Everyone, nothing to see here,” he said loudly. “This… this is a mistake”

Whispers ran through the hall. Some pack members stared at Isla with pity. Some with curiosity. None with the respect she secretly craved.

Isla held her head high, even as her legs shook. She would survive. She always survived.

After the ceremony, Damon refused to speak to her. He walked beside other pack members, ignoring her completely. But the bond pulsed inside her, reminding her that she was his mate. That connection could not be broken.

Later, as she swept the hall, she whispered to herself.

“I will not be your pawn forever Damon”

Her hands clenched around the broom. Her wolf stirred inside, bound but alive. One day she would show him. One day she would be free.

But for now, she endured.

The cruel Alpha. The endless abuse. The secret that made her stronger than anyone knew.

Tomorrow, the pack would wake to the news that Isla was no longer invisible. That she had a place. That she was the mate of the Alpha.

And Damon… Damon would have to face her whether he liked it or not.

  • The Alpha's Wolfless mate    Chapter 28 – The Quiet Before

The days after the ritual felt really normal which was almost worse than all the things that happened.I woke up every morning with Damons arm around me his breath warm on the back of my neck and for a seconds everything felt okay. The bad thing inside me was still there a little knot behind my ribs but it was quieter now. Weaker. It did not. Give me bad dreams every night. It just waited. It whispered to me when I was tired or angry or alone. It said mean things that sounded like my thoughts. They are watching you. Waiting for you to make a mistake.Damon says he loves you. He will see the bad person you can be eventually.I tried to ignore it every time. I focused on Damons heartbeat. On the way his fingers touched my skin when he thought I was asleep. On the connection between us that felt stronger since the ritual like our love had made some of the bad things go away. The bad thing inside me was patient. The fighting outside our walls was not.We spent the week getting ready. We t

  • The Alpha's Wolfless mate    Chapter 27 – The Ritual

The decision to do the ritual happened fast. We could not wait anymore. The seed was getting worse. It did not wait for me to be tired or distracted. It spoke to me during the day in the middle of conversations while I was eating while I was training. Sometimes it was a cold feeling. Sometimes it was a voice that sounded like mine saying things I did not want to think about. They are all waiting for you to fail. Damon says he loves you. He will leave when you become something he can not control. Why fight for people who never fought for you?I started waking up in the middle of the night with my hands around my throat like I was trying to stop the whispers from coming out. Damon would wake up with me every time pulling my hands away gently holding me until the shaking stopped. He never got angry. He never looked at me like I was broken. He just held me. Whispered that he was there that I was still me that we would beat this.. I could see the fear in his eyes when he thought I was not

  • The Alpha's Wolfless mate    Chapter 26 – The Edge of Me

The seed was taking over.I could feel the seed every second now like a second heartbeat that beat just a little out of rhythm with my own heartbeat. The seed did not shout at me anymore. The seed whispered to me. Constantly. The seed made suggestions that sounded almost like my own thoughts. The seed told me that the people around me do not really trust me. The seed said that they are waiting for me to fail. The seed asked me why I fight hard for people who spent years wishing I was dead.I started avoiding the people around me.During training I kept to the edges working alone or only with Damon. In the hall I sat quietly eating fast and leaving early. Even Lilas worried glances started to feel too heavy for me. I smiled at Lila when I could. The smiles felt fake to me stretched too thin.Damon noticed everything that was happening to me.He did not push me at first. He just stayed close to me. His hand was on my back when we walked. His arm was around me at night. He gave me kisses

  • The Alpha's Wolfless mate    Chapter 25 – The Breaking Point

The seed did not give me any peace. It followed me everywhere now. During training the seed was there. While I was eating the seed was there. In the quiet moments when I tried to steal a few seconds alone the seed was there. It was always there like a pulse under my own heartbeat, cold and patient and whispering things I did not want to hear.I started avoiding mirrors because every time I caught my reflection my eyes looked a little darker. Not the warm brown I was used to. Something sharper something hungrier. I told myself it was exhaustion. The pack was still. We were training harder than ever. Sleep was rare and broken.. Deep down I knew it was not just that. The seed was changing me. I could feel it.One evening I was alone in the clearing behind the pack house trying to meditate like Mara had suggested. The air was cool. The sun was just beginning to set, painting the sky in soft oranges and pinks. I sat cross-legged on the grass. Closed my eyes focusing on my breathing. In, ou

  • The Alpha's Wolfless mate    Chapter 24 – Shadows Inside

The next few days were a blur.We kept burying our dead. We kept fixing the walls. We kept training until we were too tired to move.Every night I fell asleep in Damons arms. I tried not to think about the thing growing inside my chest. It felt like a darker heartbeat. It started small.I felt a spot behind my ribs. A quiet chill that wouldn't go away.Damon held me close. It didn't help. Then it spread.Little tendrils of darkness made my wolf restless.She. The sky was a gray the next morning. It was like the sun did not want to see what we were doing. We buried the people who died at light. There were twelve graves.
