“No way, I hate your little wimp of a boyfriend.” Drew says definitively with a straight face.

My own drops in disappointment as I follow him around the apartment.

"What? Since when?"

Drew shrugged, finding his sneakers under the coffee table and sitting on the couch to pull them on. "Since always. I only tolerate him because he seems harmless and you like him."

He stood up, his expression unchanged. "But he's still a hormonal crazed teen boy, and there's no way I'm letting you go to a party with him at his house in the middle of the night."

I open my mouth in shock and then shut it again. Dang it. So I guess Marshall was right.

"Drew, you can't do this!" I whined, feeling a surge of frustration.

Drew walked by me. "Actually, I can. I’m your legal guardian, Mia.” He speaks, his words filled with authority.

I let out a loud groan and stomp my foot, but he doesn’t even flinch.

It’s almost comical how the tables have suddenly shifted and now I have to look at my older brother who only has three years on me like a father figure.

He stops by Hayden’s bedroom door and pounds on it. “Stop fixing your hair, Hayde, we gotta go or we’ll be late.”

Seconds later, Hayden walks out and his shoulder length blonde hair is tied in a man bun that actually makes him look kind of cute. Well kind of cute if he didn’t have such a rugged physique. The muscle shirt he adorns put his ripped arms out on display for everyone to see and he definitely looks like the kind of guy who goes to the gym four times a week.

They’re all gym rats; Drew, Scott and Hayden but Hayden is definitely the largest of the three.

"Why are you yelling?" Hayden asks impatiently as he grabs a water bottle from his backpack and gulps some down. His blue eyes land on me, and he raises a curious brow. "Why's our little princess mad?"

I pout, sinking down onto the couch and crossing my arms over my chest. "Drew won't let me go to a party at my boyfriend's house tonight."

Hayden's expression turns thoughtful as he glances at Drew. "You mean Marshall? I've never liked that kid."

I look at him incredulously wondering how they all could hate Marshall when they’ve only met him a handful of times. He’s the perfect and sweetest boy on the planet. How could they not like him?

"Everyone's literally gonna be there, and I'll be the loser girl who's forced to stay home by my lame big brother.” I whine knowing very well how childish I sound.

But I can’t even pretend to mask my frustration and disappointment.

Drew rolls his eyes. “Yeah and your lame big brother isn’t changing his mind.”

I turn to Hayden, my eyes pleading. “Hayden, help, please.” I whine.

Hayden shrugs and gives me a sympathetic look. "Sorry, M. Drew's the boss."

I let out a frustrated groan. "Arg! I hate you!" I yell even though I know Drew won’t really take my outburst seriously.

He smiled unapologetically.

"And I don't care as long as you're safe.” Drew speaks, his tone firm but laced with amusement. He walks over and plants a kiss on my forehead. “See you later kid. We're off to work. Scott will be back from his shift soon to watch you. You two can order pizza and make him watch Barbie a movie or something. Doesn't that sound fun?" His tone is mocking, and I fight the urge to scream that I’m not twelve anymore.

“See you, M!” Hayden calls out as he shuts the door behind him.

"You've got to be f*cking kidding me!" Drew yelled practically sweeping all the plastic cups on the kitchen island from where they had been placed. The Chinese food the guys had ordered was practically too cold to eat now. Heck, who was I kidding, the tension in the room was enough to take away everyone's appetites. All of us were gathered in our tiny kitchen in a way that was almost comical. I was standing in between Scott and Hayden like they were my bodyguards still wearing my clothes from last night. Kaden was across from us with Rand and Nick also looking like his bodyguards. Not that anyone could possibly protect him from Drew's rage right now. Drew gripped his hands into fists as he stared down Kaden and I had a feeling he really wished they were in the ring right now. "You had a target put on my baby sister's head?" Drew yelled. Kaden let out a huff and looked at the ground. "Listen, man..." "Don't you dare tell me to listen." Drew snapped. "We are not friends. Do you

"So, we're just gonna pretend that didn't happen?" I asked out loud once the silence between Kaden and I had gotten way too unbearable. We had just left Shark's house and Kaden had been so quiet and serious, it was almost frightening. "That's pretty much my plan." Kaden spoke. I saw him look into the rear view mirror and I knew immediately he was studying the Ford truck Rand and Nick were in behind us. I sighed and sank back into my seat reaching over to rub the bandage around my hand. "What were you two talking about back there with Shark? When you asked me to leave?" Kaden was silent for a few minutes, his eyes fixed on the road. "I'd prefer it if you didn't ask me such questions, Mia." I immediately felt my blood start to boil after he said that. "Oh, I'm sorry, would you rather I talk about the shooting that happened at your house? Or maybe the girl I found in your room. Do tell, Kaden." Kaden ran a hand down his face. I could immediately tell he was frustrated

I woke up to the smell of bacon sizzling and eggs frying. For a second I thought I was dreaming until my eyes opened and I found myself on a couch. Not just any couch, Shark's couch. Everything from last night suddenly came rushing back and I shot up where I sat. I looked up and saw the familiar blonde guy by the stove... shirtless might I add as he flipped something over in a pan. Well, that couldn't be safe. I sat up rubbing my eyes and realised I had a jacket spread across me. I let my fingers trail over it wondering if Shark had put it on me in the middle of the night. The idea that he might have filled me with conflicting feelings. Why would he be remotely nice to me? I was his arch nemesis' girlfriend. "You're up." Shark spoke when he turned and I found his eyes on me. I blinked away the sleep from my face as I stood up. "Yeah." I looked around desperately wanting to check what time it was then I remembered I had broken my phone. Great. Drew was not on

I looked around Shark's house. I don't know what I had been expecting. Weapons all around. Heavy metal posters on the wall? A lot of black. But it was actually painfully normal and plain. Like the house of a typical college aged single guy I guess. It was quite small. Or maybe I was just comparing it to Kaden's mansion. It was a studio apartment set up. A hastily made bed sat in the corner with a simple bedside table and a lamp by the side. I spotted a journal there and couldn't exactly picture Shark sitting down and jotting down his thoughts. There was an open concept kitchen with grey counter tops and a few dishes in the sink. A lone grey couch sat in front of a TV and there were three more doors. One I assumed must have led to a bathroom. I hesitated by the door as Shark casually walked in like I wasn't even there. "You gonna stand there all day?" He asked as he plopped down on his bed. I closed the door behind me wondering what Drew would say about me being in

I really should write a book on how I get myself into such situations. I wanted to slam my head onto the dashboard and maybe wake up when this disturbing and scary dream ended. But alas, I was stuck in this reality where I had just run away from my boyfriend's house which just got shot up with his mortal enemy. And did I mention my hand hurt like hell? I looked down seeing three tiny glass pieces lodged in there. Probably from my broken phone screen. Oh yeah, on top of all that, I broke my phone! I looked to the side and Shark was looking ahead focusing on the road. I sighed. He drove a black Jeep that admittedly smelled really good. "Can we go back now?" I asked with a sigh. Shark didn't even turn to look at me. "Do you want to get arrested?" I huffed. The police had started heading in the direction of Kaden's house just as we were going down the road. Kaden... I can't believe I just left him. What if he had gotten arrested? "I need to make sure Kaden's okay." Shark scof

I tried to keep my tears from falling out as I pushed through groups of people trying to make my way out of the house. Suddenly everything was too loud, too overstimulating and I felt like I was going to shatter. When the hell was I going to stop with all this back and forth when it came to Kaden? All I wanted was for him to let me in and he just constantly did the opposite. Everytime I thought we were making progress, like him letting me come to this party, it all turned into something else. Something completely different and then we were back to square one all over again. Oomph. I felt myself bump into something hard. Correction, someone. I looked up and saw Shark's blue eyes looking down at me. Great, just great. He studied me, placing his hands on my shoulders to steady me. "Leaving so soon?" He asked sounding smug. I rolled my eyes and stepped away from his hold. "Yes, so if you don't mind." I spoke impatiently waiting for him to get out of my way. He smir
