Chapter 1

The Missing Bride

The first scream came from the bridal suite.

Eva Hart looked up from the seating chart in her hands. A makeup artist rushed past her, nearly knocking over a tray of champagne.

"What happened?" Eva asked, catching the woman's arm.

"The bride..." The woman's face had gone pale. "She's gone."

Eva frowned.

"Gone where?"

"I—I don't know."

For a second, the world around her seemed to stop.

Outside, a string quartet continued playing as though nothing had happened. Guests laughed over glasses of champagne. Camera flashes lit up the entrance of the Blackwood Estate.

Inside, panic spread like wildfire.

Eva pushed open the door to the bridal suite.

The room looked as though someone had left in a hurry.

A wedding gown hung neatly on its stand.

The bouquet rested on the vanity.

An expensive pair of heels sat untouched near the mirror.

But the bride...

Was nowhere to be seen.

"Search every room," Eva said, already pulling out her phone. "The gardens. The guest house. Everywhere."

Her assistant nodded and hurried away.

Eva dialed the bride's number.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Straight to voicemail.

Her stomach tightened.

This wasn't a nervous bride hiding in the restroom.

Something was wrong.

---

Downstairs, the wedding guests had started asking questions.

"Why hasn't the ceremony started?"

"Is everything okay?"

"I heard the groom has already arrived."

Eva forced a smile as she walked through the ballroom.

"There has been a slight delay. Thank you for your patience."

Another lie.

She hated lying.

But if the truth got out now, the media outside would have a field day.

She turned a corner—

—and froze.

A line of black luxury SUVs rolled through the estate gates.

The groom had arrived.

Every employee instinctively stood straighter.

The drivers stepped out first.

Then the security team.

Finally...

Adrian Blackwood emerged.

He wore a perfectly tailored black suit.

Not a wrinkle.

Not a single strand of dark hair out of place.

His expression revealed nothing.

But something about the way he walked made everyone move aside without being told.

Power didn't always need an introduction.

Sometimes it simply entered the room.

Eva had coordinated events for wealthy clients before.

None of them made the air feel this heavy.

Adrian stopped in front of her.

"You're the coordinator?"

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

"Yes."

"Is everything ready?"

Eva hesitated.

Just for a second.

His sharp gray eyes caught it immediately.

"What happened?"

"It's just a small delay."

"Miss Hart."

She blinked.

He knew her name.

"I asked a question."

Eva swallowed.

"The bride isn't in her room."

Silence.

Not the kind filled with confusion.

The kind that made everyone nearby stop breathing.

Adrian looked at his head of security.

"How long?"

"We've only just been informed, sir."

"Find her."

The order was simple.

No shouting.

No panic.

Within seconds, security scattered across the estate.

Eva watched them disappear.

"I've already called her several times," she said quietly. "Her phone is off."

Adrian didn't answer.

He walked into the bridal suite himself.

His eyes scanned the room once.

Nothing more.

Then they landed on a folded envelope resting beneath the mirror.

No one had noticed it.

He picked it up.

Opened it.

Read it.

His jaw tightened.

Just slightly.

It was the first crack in the perfect mask.

Eva couldn't help herself.

"What does it say?"

He folded the letter.

"It says she's not coming back."

Eva felt the blood drain from her face.

Outside, nearly three hundred guests waited for a wedding that no longer existed.

Inside, the most powerful businessman in the country stood holding a goodbye letter.

No anger.

No shouting.

Just silence.

Somehow...

That was even more frightening.

Adrian slipped the letter into his jacket pocket.

"When does the ceremony begin?"

Eva stared at him.

"...In twenty minutes."

He nodded once.

"Good."

Her eyebrows drew together.

Good?

Before she could ask what he meant, he looked directly at her.

"I still intend to get married today."

Eva let out a nervous laugh.

"I'm sorry... what?"

His gaze never left hers.

"I said..."

"I still intend to get married today."
