My throat was sore, and my chest ached badly because I cried all night. I got up to get ready for another chance in my life before Valerie called again. “I'm ready,” she uttered. It's been a while, but I never thought I would keep such a thing away from my best friend. Considering what she was going through, I bid my issues goodbye. I promised to keep everything to myself without letting her find out. “You can come pick me up from the house. " I had to clear all the bills and I couldn't sleep on time,” I uttered icily, giving her a reason to come get me. “Why do you sound so sad? I'm going to settle the loans for the time we've lost. " I just can't bring myself to be with Alex,” she assured with a sharp tone. “It's okay. " I understand, and I won't get in the way of your decision,” I assured, also making me promise myself that I wouldn't stop her. I panicked about myself, but I was very sure I didn't want to abort my child. I was so unlucky to not have a sibling and the universe sent me a baby? And I wanted to take it out? No. I didn't know how I was going to do so, but I believed there was going to be a way out of it. Some minutes later, Bella came to pick me up. I masked my face with a wide grin, as she walked towards me. “Are you feeling better?” I asked softly, placing my hands on her shoulder. She quickly tossed my hands off her shoulders. “I'm not going to feel better till I end all of this,” she angrily replied and walked briskly into the car. I felt a bit embarrassed by her actions, but I also had to know it was not the perfect time for such. We drove down to a magnificent mansion that made me so curious, “Is this his house?” I asked, with my mouth wide open. “Yeah, I'm tired. Who wouldn't fight to steal this from me?” She retorted angrily. I walked behind her as we entered the mansion, and the aura I got from staring at each side of the mansion made me curious to know more about who this person was. “I knew you'd come!” His voice raided my head, and I stopped at that moment. “Alex, if you're not ready to be committed, why did you pin me down with a ring?” Valerie gnawed. “A diamond ring?” He retorted, defending himself boldly. “You are seeing a lot of women, and you want me to remain loyal to you?” She sighed while looking away. I stood silently as I buried my head while facing the ground. There was so much familiarity in his voice that I could only hear his voice and not Valerie’s. I was there, but my attention was stolen by my thoughts. “I'm done with you. You don't love me as you said,” Valerie angrily threw the ring at Alex. I raised my hand quickly to stop my best friend, but I got a clear glance of Alex and I froze. The first thing I saw was the same tattoo. “AB.” I muttered silently as I squinted my eyes to have a good look. Alex scoffed, and picked up the ring. I stared at his chiseled jawline, his perfectly trimmed beards and broad chest. “You are her best friend, yeah?” He leaned forward and I was weak in the knees. Alex, my best friend’s ex-fiance, was the man I was with that night? I blinked a couple of times to have some clarity, to be sure it was no dream. “Y-yes, yes…” I stammered, as I trembled within. I shook my head repeatedly as we stood facing each other, yet I couldn't say a word. “Are you okay?” He asked, and touched my arm. My lips were tightened to a line as my heart fell into my stomach. “I came to return the cheque and other monetary value as the event planner?” I looked away as my frustration began to wander with fear. I dropped everything on the gold-plated table beside him, in preparation to leave. My hands shook as I grabbed my handbag, preparing to walk away from the one thing that made me happy, but as a mistake. “...and the loans?” he asked, with so much concern. I stopped and turned, giving him a straight gaze. “Don't worry about them,” I replied coldly. I was disappointed and at that point, I understood Valerie. He slept with me that night, yet he couldn't remember who I was. This must have happened with other women as well. “My reputation is at stake here. My business would be greatly affected. I can't risk it,” he uttered, as his throat tightened. “So?” I asked icily. “Pretend to be my wife,” his eyes flicked as he stared at me. “What?” I mouthed silently as I saw him stretch out the same ring Valerie threw at him. “Yes, I'm serious. I know about you already. You are struggling with your business, and you are trying so hard to pay off huge amounts of loans,” he confessed and I felt like my problems were already known to many. “I will never cause you to lack and all you have to agree with me is to be my wife. You will pay your loans, and your business will be back on track,” he added. It felt like I was given a white paper to write down my wishes, but I didn't have a pen. “I won't do that,” I replied shabbily, and I attempted to walk out. “Bella, be my contract wife!” He roared, and I froze as the words were repeated in my head. I turned and faxed at him with tears in my eyes as fear gnawed on me. I couldn't leave without making a decision. At that point, I realized the love I had for my best friend was tested perfectly. However, I hated the feeling and the struggle I had with my father's demise, my business failures, and paying off loans with my horrible finances. My pregnancy and future slurred at me. Alex walked towards me and went on his knees with the ring in his hands. His eyes glowed as he stared at me. He grabbed me gently, and his Adam's apple bobbed, “Bella Anderson, please be my contract wife.”BellaMy husband had a lot of doors in the mansion. He kept all of them closed. I told myself it wasn't my business to knock. Then I started counting how many then he left the house at midnight. Alex was an outing animal. I always imagined having to marry a man that was grounded in his goals, little did I know I'll find myself trapped in a marriage with no emotions. His life was a cheat map, easy to predict but without knowing the outcome of each move. I started living the life of a text book: Woke up every morning to his orders of what I needed to do daily, and he would return to the mansion by midnight to give me very vague information about his life. Most of the time, he was drunk. During the weekdays, it would seem like he got his brain refreshed and he would get back to serving my favourite tea on my bedside before I wake up, arranging the workspace without me asking, and making efforts to have dinner early. In all of this, just in one moment, everything could change. He w
BellaAlex's world was full of men who smiled with their teeth and watched you with their eyes. After receiving the large sum of money, I realized that truly, I was nothing more than a pet in the eyes of Alex. I had to do everything he told me to. I acted only in the way he needed me to act. I was already living the life of a textbook a few days after marriage. After the planned dinner, I had nothing to do than follow him like a shadow when he was home. I wasn't really prepared for what I signed. I stood frozen in the room after the door was opened without a knock. “You seem to be extremely busy," he murmured as he walked into the room. The sounds of his footsteps sent shivers to my spine. “You are the busy one," I replied quickly, shoving my robe to cover my body. His brows furrowed and he moved backwards a bit. “Was there any part in the contract that mentioned you have to cover your body?” His voice was cold and distinct.“Uhm, you didn't think I could also be feeling cold?"
Bella The bedroom I was given was bigger than my entire apartment that the bank almost took away from me. Deep down, I told myself that it was a good thing. Even after I said that to myself more than three times, it was hard to believe in even one of them. I was shown my quarters and at that moment, it felt like I was a worker in the mansion. The quarters were quite distant from Alex's suite. Then I remembered that it was part of the contract. The room was beautiful and far from impeccable; It had silk drapes with a vase of fresh rises by the bedside. Its scent filled the entire room, and there were just more features as I looked through each corner. I opened my mouth slowly to behold the wonders of the room, a type I hadn't seen in a long time of being born into this harsh world. I was awed by everything I saw, but at the same time, I felt suffocated. It was purely vanity in all forms. Deep down, I knew I was crawling into my own doom. Because it already started feeling like a
BellaI married for money and not for love. I dumped the fact that there may be people who care about me, and there were those who faked it. While the wedding certificates were being signed by my contract husband, I lived in the delusional state that this was not a contract, it was real. Mr. Blackwood will definitely not frame that contract, and Valerie? She can't do more than give me a dead stare from her seat.Moving around to get to a better position to have my signatures on the marriage certificate made me feel nauseous. This time, it was bad enough that I wrinkled my entire face from the discomfort it gave me. “You are both officially husband and wife!” The judge announced, and I just had to give a quick smirk while I watched my contract husband smile to the ends of the corners of his mouth. Valerie could not hold up to everything that she witnessed. She probably thought it was all a joke, that there were no two ways about it, and the fact that it could be a prank. My whole
BellaI had no control of myself because the room fell with me. From the moment of forcing a smile in front of everyone to pretending to be happy. After hearing the magistrate's voice brush the silence that choked on me after signing the contract papers, I was weak. The reading of the last contract was something I had barely heard. All I could think about at that point was the sound of my own heartbeat. My heartbeat was too loud and fast like it wanted to bail on me. “Bella?” Alex’s voice reverted from the distance he stood and that was the last thing I heard. My vision became blurry and everything I thought I could see started melting into one unreasonable sight. I tried so hard to make sure that I put myself together, but my brother failed me. I was scared because I struggled to get here even when it felt like trouble. I wasn't ready to leak the cat out of the bag—that I would have to tell my husband that I was pregnant with his child even before we got married. He was the im
Bella I went to court to finalize everything— to take the one and scribble my signatures on the contract papers, for a man who I randomly had a one-night stand with. Valerie’s Black dress was outstanding, but her hard look was the overall fitting of her look. “Oh, you! I didn't think you'd come to my wedding,” Alex chuckled and it ached me. At this point, I had already crossed the thin line that divided love and hate. I didn't think twice before doing anything that was going to favor me and my unborn child. I wasn't going to sit and let just any random thing occur again. “Was she invited?” I asked in a cold tone. “I can't chase her, can I?” Alexander muttered and said his vows. I stared at her from my sides, trying so well not to make it obvious. Everyone probably thought she was coming to halt the wedding, but her character displayed something totally different. Her weird smile lit her face even when it was obvious she had doubts. “Don't let my presence interrupt,” Valerie u
Bella My heart flipped like a million coins that were tossed in the air as I walked toward the door. I was overthinking it, but I was ready to take the risk of going to the door. Could it be Valerie? I mean, I tried to make her consider going back to her cheating ex. It was something worth gettin
Bella“Aren’t you ashamed? You don’t even care about the fact that I’m her best friend!” I wailed angrily. Deep down, all I need was a better route to escape my problems. The offer was indeed golden, but why did it have to come from him? Why did he have to be the one to ask for such a delusional f
Bella“You are going to be my event planner!” She exclaimed, and I felt my heart fall into my stomach. She pointed her hands to my face, and I was more bombed by the news of being her event planner than the diamond ring on her finger. She smiled gracefully as she stood to watch my reaction, but I w
Bella“Are you okay, ma’am?” I opened my eyes to find the nurse by my side—I was back to reality.“Where's my father?” I asked cautiously. My breath caught in my throat, and I felt the sting of fear cut deep as I got up from the bed.“You have to rest, you just fainted,” she added. I didn't care a
