The Moon Omega

Rodney.

The Dark Moon pack tried to resist but I tore through their warriors within minutes. Stepping over their bodies, I made my way towards the house they’d tried to prevent me from entering.

Those who survived my wrath surrendered and watched me as I strode through their pack house, searching for the Moon Omega. It was hard to believe I’d finally found her after so many years. And to think she was so close this whole time. I went upstairs and kicked open the door that kept her hidden.

A young woman with wavy blonde hair was standing near the window. She turned and smiled at me, her blue eyes glowing. She was very beautiful. I frowned. I had nearly wiped out her entire pack and she was smiling at me.

There was this soft, beautiful energy radiating from her.

She tilted her head. “Alpha Rodney?”

I nodded.

Her smile widened. “Honestly, you’re an idiot.”

My warriors growled from behind me. Nobody spoke to me that way unless they wanted death. But for some reason, it didn’t annoy me. I didn’t care what she thought of me. I just needed us to mate.

“Really?” I narrowed my eyes.

She crossed her arms over her chest. “I would have come willingly if you asked.”

I froze. “What?”

“I’ve known you for years and I always hoped you’d be the one. So handsome, sexy and powerful. We could be the greatest couple. To be honest I was very sad when I heard about your marriage.”

“You wanted me?” I asked. Why was I even surprised? Every woman wanted me.

She chuckled. “Of course. The only reason I stayed was because my parents hated you.”

I looked out through the window and saw bodies of warriors from both sides in the yard. I couldn’t believe the battle had been pointless.

The Moon Omega extended her hand. “Lyra. I’m the Moon Omega.”

“Rodney.” I said before shaking it. “Nice to finally meet you.”

Perhaps Evie’s disappearance happened for a reason.

That night, the elders gathered to start the mating ceremony. They placed ancient candles on an altar and Cora, the most powerful witch in the region lit them up and created symbols on the floor. Lyra stood beside me, eagerly waiting to become mine. When Cora started chanting, Lyra’s eyes began glowing.

Suddenly, the biggest candle went off. Cora stopped changing and frowned. She used a spell to light it up again. It went off again. The nearest candle also went off, and the next, until the room was engulfed in darkness.

“Is that supposed to happen?” I asked, feeling slightly tense.

Suddenly, I felt a lot of pain in my chest. It was so intense it had me staggering backwards. It was like someone had stabbed my heart with a sharp dagger and was twisting it. Groaning, I collapsed onto one knee.

“Alpha!” Cora yelled.

Warriors rushed forward and then something strange happened.

The floor froze, ice spreading outward in every direction.

Frost crawled across the walls and windows shattered as the air turned white and the room became extremely cold. It was becoming hard for me to breathe

Lyra screamed and Cora rushed to her side while two top warriors came to me.

“Are you okay, alpha?”

Inside my chest felt extremely cold, as if my insides were also freezing. The pain was too strong and I’d never felt anything like it

“No. Get me out of here.”

Before they could, my world morphed into darkness.

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying on a stone bed. Cora and some elders were standing around me.

“What happened?” I asked, sitting up.

My grandfather stepped forward.

“Rodney.” He said looking solemn.

I raised a brow, impatiently waiting for him to speak. “You’ve been cursed.”

I chuckled, shaking my head. “Cursed? Like in the story books? This is ridiculous”

I expected them to laugh along with me but no one laughed. They all looked dead serious.

“What curse?” I finally asked.

Grandpa glanced at the other elders and sighed. “The Curse of Frost.”

Suddenly, I felt cold all over my body. I glanced at my fingers and saw frost on them. “What is this?” I asked.

“I think there has been a mistake,” Cora said. “For some reason, you were not supposed to mate with her. It seems she’s destined for someone else, and so are you. I think the Moon Goddess cursed you as punishment.”

I frowned. “Why didn’t you tell me this before? You could’ve stopped me.”

“I didn’t know something like this could happen,” she said. “I thought any alpha who got to the Moon Omega first could have her. That’s what has been happening since the beginning of time. I don’t know why she decided to curse you.”

“Could it be because of Luna Evie’s pain?” an old woman with a cane asked.

“Why would the Moon Goddess care about Evie’s pain?” I asked. “She was just a half-blood.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Maybe you should have rejected her before attempting this.”

“These are things you should have told me before the ceremony,” I was getting more agitated. “Just shut up and find a solution.”

The room temperature suddenly dropped and several warriors shivered. I saw Ice creeping across the edge of a nearby table. As I stared, the entire table froze.

“Your emotions now affect the curse.” Cora said. “Your heart is literally freezing so you have to be careful. Every day the frost will spread and eventually your heart will become ice.”

It was clear that death was the sentence but no one had the guts to say it right to my face.

“No.”

The temperature dropped instantly and warriors stumbled backward as more ice spread across the walls.

The elder cursed under his breath. “Control yourself.”

I clenched my fists but this made the frost only intensify.

The elder’s expression darkened. “The curse is progressing faster than expected.”

I forced myself to calm down and the ice stopped spreading. Everyone seemed relieved but I stared at the frost covering my hands. “Is there a cure to this?”

The eldest elder exchanged glances with the others and nodded.

“There is.” He stated, giving me a ray of hope. Finally, a sensible person.

“What is it?”

“A Fireheart.”

“A Fireheart?”

The elder nodded. “One of the rarest bloodlines ever recorded, common among hybrids.”

“Where can I find one?”

His expression darkened. “You may not.”

“What does that mean?”

“Most people believe they’re extinct.” He replied with a sigh.

Suddenly, the chamber door burst open and a warrior rushed inside. He was breathing heavily and covered in sweat. Dropping to one knee, he spoke. “Alpha! We received reports from the southern forests.”

We all looked at him expectantly. “A rogue camp was destroyed.”

Nobody reacted because Rogues died every day and no one cared. They chose that lifestyle, after all.

“They were burned alive.” This time, the room went silent. Everyone was shocked.

“The survivors claim a young woman was responsible for the attack.”

The eldest elder slowly rose from his seat. His face was pale. “Burned?”

“Yes.”

“Must be a Fireheart.”

Then the elder looked directly at me. “Find her. Immediately.”

“Because if she truly is a Fireheart...” His eyes went to the frost spreading across my fingertips. “...she may be the only thing standing between you and death.”

Evie.“Tommy is missing.”My heart stopped when I heard the words. For a second, I thought I heard Damien wrong.“What?”Damien stood at the doorway with a grim expression. “We can’t find him.”I went and shook his shoulders. “What do you mean we can’t find him? Where is my baby? You were with him? How could he get lost?” My mind was all over the place. How could Tommy go missing around the pack house with 24/7 security?I pushed past Damien but he grabbed my wrist.“Where was he?”“At the training grounds. I had to leave for a few minutes and he was gone. We’re searching.”When he refused to let go of my arm, I let out flames, forcing him to drop my hand like it was made of lava. The pack house has turned into a hub of activity; people running in different directions, shouting and giving out orders. I ignored all of them, only asking for Rodney’s whereabouts. I found him in the main hall, ice freezing his boots. Everyone near him was trembling from extreme cold.“Evie.”“Do you have

After five years of me being there for him, he dumped me as soon as his beloved Evie showed up.My hands gripped the metal railings as I stood at the landing overlooking the dining hall. Servants carrying trays and wine bottles and other serving equipment moved around without noticing me.Good for them because if even one had dared to look me in the eye in that moment, I might have ripped their throat open.“…the Alpha is better now.” one of them said, relief noticeable in their voice.“It’s because Luna Evie returned.” another said with a smile. “He really loved her. I can’t wait for them to fully get back together.”My teeth clenched. Luna Evie?Back then they all mocked the half-blood luna that Rodney refused to mark. Now they all respected and admired her because she was the Fireheart who could save the Alpha. Hearing them speak, you would thi

The healers had given me so many instructions.Keep him warm, wake him immediately if frost appears again, and avoid emotional stress blah blah blah...That last one was the most ridiculous. Avoid emotional stress?I was going to share a bedroom with the man who broke my heart and ruined my life. Emotional stress was unavoidable. Evie. The next day I avoided Rodney like he was the plague. I kept replaying the healer’s explanations and they made me feel manipulated. Rodney. The old man standing near the fireplace looked worried when he saw the frost slowly spreading under my chair. But I couldn’t stop it. The curse worsened whenever I got irritated. The cause of my irritation was Evie refusing to sit beside me. She stood near the window with her arms crossed over her chest. The healer cleared his throat. “As I was saying, Alpha. The Frostbane Curse has progressed faster than expected.”Ice spread along the armrest where I’d placed my arm. The old man saw it and shook his head. Evie glanced at me briefly before looking away again. The healer opened an ancient leather book on the table. Strange symbols covered the pages alongside drawings of wolves surrounded by fire.“The curse is ancient,” he explained. “Created originally by Fireheart witches centuries ago.”My brows rose.
