Chapter 7

Author: Perfect Timing
My mom was shocked and distressed. It took her a long time before she finally managed to utter a few words.

“There isn’t a single girl named Hope Spencer among last year’s SATs candidates.”

I retorted, “That’s impossible. We just added each other as friends last night.

“Mom, if you don’t believe me, I’ll show you right now.”

As I said that, I took out my phone to look for Hope’s contact.

I did not have many friends on social media. I only had about a hundred in total.

But even among those

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying in a hospital bed.Mom and Dad were by my side. When they saw me wake up, tears welled up in their eyes.“Sophia, you’re finally awake. You scared me to death. How are you feeling? Does anything hurt?”I shook my head. My voice was tense and hoarse as I asked, “Mom, did they catch the person who tried to kill me?”Mom stopped crying and replied irritably, “They did. I don’t know who you take after. How could you pretend to be mentally ill just to catch the killer?”I shot her a toothy grin. “If I hadn’t done that, how else could we have caught the killer?”Just then, a police officer walked in.He approached my bedside and saluted me.“Ms. Watson, it’s all thanks to you that we were able to catch the killer who murdered the valedictorians.”I replied solemnly, “It was the least I could do, Officer. May I see the killer?”“Of course.”An hour later, I arrived at the police station in my wheelchair.Hearing my voice, the perso

I only had about a hundred in total. But even among those hundred or so, I searched through my contacts three times and still could not find Hope. Our chat history had vanished into thin air. It was just like the threatening text message I had received on that day. When she saw that I would not give up, Mom could not help but snatch my phone away.“Sophia, don’t do this. Listen to me. You’ll get better soon.”With tears welling up in my eyes, I shouted angrily, “I’m not sick, Mom! Believe me. Hope really exists!“She even told me her brother was m

After completing a series of tests, the psychiatrist looked at my parents with a grave expression.“Thankfully, you caught this early. Your child’s condition isn’t serious. As long as she keeps taking her medication, she’ll be fine.”I almost flipped the table over. I wanted to point at his nose and call him a quack. But when I saw the look of relief and surprise in my parents’ eyes, I had no choice but to swallow my words.Soon, news of my attempt to strangle myself and the doctor’s diagnosis that I had developed schizophrenia due to severe stress had spread all over the internet.Everyone was talking about it.“Sophia even said she wouldn’t commit suicide, but who would’ve thought she’d turn around and almost strangle herself? She’s a nasty one.”“I told you there’s a curse on valedictorians. Sophia was perfectly fine. She had just received the highest scores. Then, at the very next moment, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia.”“All the valedictorians ended up dying. Sophia

The face had no features. It was a pitch-black void. Only the vague outlines of its features were visible.More importantly, its hands were cold. They were too cold to feel like those of a living person. In that instant, the word “ghost” nearly leapt out of my mind. The hand around my neck tightened even further. I gasped for air. My mouth was wide open.Suddenly, I heard my mom’s anxious voice ringing in my ears.“Sophia!”Hearing my mom’s voice, the figure in front of me suddenly loosened its grip. Before I could even react, it vanished right where it stood.Immediately afterward, the lights in the room suddenly came on.I looked up and realized that Dad, Mom, and several police officers were all gathered around me.Still shaken, I threw myself into Mom’s arms and cried, “Mom, there’s a ghost! He was trying to strangle me!”After waiting a long time, Mom still did not reply to me. I looked up in confusion, only to see a complex expression on her face.Mom hesitated before

My logic was simple. If there really was a killer, I did not believe that they would dare to kill someone right in front of everyone. If there was no killer, that would be even better. The fact of that matter was that I would never commit suicide! The viewers were also eager to see if I would actually die, so not only did no one leave, but more and more people kept flooding in.Before I knew it, it was 11 p.m.. At that point, there was just one hour left until midnight.I chatted with the viewers occasionally, but I was unable to stop yawning.[Look at the streamer. In what way does she look like she’s about to kill herself? Maybe the valedictorian curse has been broken. Everyone, let’s call it a night.][I’m starting to believe it now. Those valedictorians may not have actually committed suicide. They may have been murdered.][What kind of killer is so skilled that they’ve killed so many people without leaving a single clue? I actually think the one who killed them might not e

Unsurprisingly, my remark caught everyone’s attention.Everyone flooded the chat with messages asking if it was really me. The streamer even sent me a request to go live together.I ignored them and left the livestream. That afternoon, the police came to my house, accompanied by a psychologist.Soon after, the psychologist finished evaluating me and told everyone that I was mentally healthy. In other words, I would not commit suicide for no reason. My parents finally felt at ease. The police officer said solemnly, “Just to be on the safe side, we’ll be staying here tonight to watch over Sophia. You don’t mind, do you?”My parents were terrified that something might happen to me, so they were more than happy to have the police stay. The police officer and I sat on the sofa. We stared at each other in silence. The officer cleared his throat and said to me, “Sophia, you can go about your business as long as you stay within my line of sight.”I nodded and took out my phone.
