LOGINIt was finally the day for Elora to leave the Moonlight Pack, but Valerie could not bring herself to see her off, so she stayed indoors.
She watched through the window to see when Elora would walk past; thank goodness her window leads to the main gate. Valerie thought about the last two days they had spent together; they were almost inseparable. They had spent time visiting places they had always enjoyed going in the Moonlight Pack and making snacks they enjoyed together. They even sat under the oak tree where they sit every full moon to reminisce about memories they had once shared. The thought of Elora leaving weighed heavily on Valerie, and even though Elora had assured her she would return as soon as possible to see her, Valerie could not help but feel sad. What would her life without Elora be like? Valerie kept staring at the window and wondering if Elora had changed her mind about leaving; it was past noon and there wasn't any sign. She heard a knock on the door which made her turn. "Yes? Who is that?" "It's Elora. Can I come in?" Is Elora not going anymore? Valerie wondered. Valerie went to the door to open it. Elora waved slightly. "Thought I should come say one last goodbye," she mumbled. Valerie knew she was supposed to see Elora for the last time no matter how sad she was about her leaving. "I am sorry," she mumbled. "I should have come to..." Elora pulled her into a hug. This wasn't the time for any of them to feel angry or apologetic, but a time to hug themselves and make use of the little time they had together. "I will always call you," Valerie said, pulling away from the hug. "I will drop you texts, send you pictures and videos," Elora said with a smile. "But promise me you will be happy. You will try to be happy." Valerie nodded. Although she wasn't sure if she would be happy after Elora leaves, she still promised her. "I will be happy," she said. "I am leaving," Elora said, staring at the wall clock. "My parents are here to pick me up already. Would you like to come say hello to them? Everyone is waiting in the hall." Valerie nodded. "I will come with you." Valerie followed Elora out of her room. They walked down the hallway in silence. A few maids stopped to offer their greetings and bid farewell to Elora. A lot of them were sad, telling Elora to visit as soon as she could. Valerie wasn't the only one who would miss Elora; Valerie knew that. Elora had been such a nice person to everyone. "I am going to miss her," a maid said. "I wonder how her best friend would cope," another maid said. "Do you think she would go back into her shell?" "Was she once quiet?" The first maid asked. "Did something happen before?" "Shhh..." The second maid placed her hand over her lips. "Lower your voice. She is still close by." Valerie heard them clearly, but she chose to ignore them. "I guess you are new here," the second maid continued. "It's a story for another day." Valerie took a deep breath. What if she ends up withdrawing again? They got to the conference hall where the Alpha, the Beta, and Elora's new parents were seated. There was also another lady; Valerie suspected her to be the Beta's real daughter. Elora held Valerie's hand and led her to her new parents. "Mom, Dad, this is Valerie, my best friend." Valerie stared at them; she could feel a sense of familiarity, but she couldn't say where or how they had met before. "It's nice to meet you, Val," Elora's mother greeted. "It's nice to meet you too, ma'am," Valerie answered. She exchanged a short greeting with Elora's new father before going to sit beside her father; Elora sat beside her new parents too. "Val, this is Luella, Nathan's daughter," Valerie's father, the Alpha of the Moonlight Pack introduced. Valerie nodded but said nothing. She had nothing to say and had no plans to make friends with her until she was sure she was anything close to Elora in good character. Luella stood up and walked up to Valerie. She stretched her hand to her for a shake. "Nice to meet you, Valerie." Valerie nodded slightly. "Nice to meet you too Lucy..." "It's Luella," Luella corrected. "Oh, I am so sorry, Luella. I will try to remember your name next time." Luella shook her hand slightly, reminding Valerie that her hand was still hanging. Valerie smiled. "I am so sorry, Lucy... I mean Luella. I do not shake hands." Luella frowned. Valerie was being rude to her and nobody said anything about it. Just because she is the Alpha's daughter? She faked a smile to conceal her anger. "I get that, Val. I will remember that next time." Luella stomped her foot on the floor slightly before returning to her seat while murmuring some words. "I guess we can start going now?" George, the Alpha of the Ice Pack and Elora's real father spoke up. "We still have a long way to go." Luella stood up and walked closer to him. "I am going to miss you, Father." George nodded but said nothing. Luella moved closer to Mira, Elora's mother, but she looked away, speaking to Elora instead. Valerie began to wonder what had happened between Luella and her adopted mother but she decided not to think about it. "Come, Val," Elora gestured to her. She moved closer to Elora, and they left the hall together while others followed behind them. They did not walk for too long before they got to the place where Elora's parents' car was parked. Elora exchanged one last greeting with Valerie before leaving with her parents. "Don't forget to call me when you get there!" Valerie yelled after Elora. "I promise I will," Elora yelled back. Valerie stayed until she could no longer see the car before heading back to her room saying nothing to anyone. Luella followed her, trying to get to know her. "I am so sorry, Luella," Valerie said to her. "My best friend just left and I feel sad about it. I can't speak to you today. I will come find you when I feel better." Valerie entered her room, leaving Luella outside. Luella frowned. Who does Valerie think she is? She had no plans to make friends with her in the first place, if her new father had not insisted on getting close to her. Luella returned to her room too, but promised herself not to get close to Valerie again. Valerie closed the door she had opened slightly a while ago, to peep at Luella. She had felt bad about the way she treated Luella and had wanted to invite her in, but when she heard her murmuring to herself about not wanting to be friends with her, she decided to stay back. She lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She began to think of how life at the Moonlight Pack would be without Elora.Valerie opened her eyes to see pairs of eyes staring at her. She sat up quickly."Is there a problem?" She asked.Beside her bed were Joanne, Fiona, Sarah, and Anne."There is no problem ma'am," Joanne answered. "It's almost time for the meeting. We have to get you ready."Valerie stared at the wall clock. It was a few minutes past six.She stood up from the bed and stretched."What are the plans?""Fiona will prepare your bath," Joanne answered. "While we wait, you can pick your dress. The Alpha sent in a few of them." Valerie nodded, looking around. "Where are the dresses?""They will be brought in soon," Joanne said. She turned to face Anne and Sarah. "You can go and bring them."Anne and Sarah left the room and returned with two racks of clothes. Valerie moved closer to them and began to check them. She finally settled for a blue dress. "I will go with this one."Anne came out of the bathroom. "Your bath is ready."Joanne took the dress from Valerie and placed it on the bed. Vale
Leonard was shocked but he loved it. He held her when she tried to move away."Running away?" He asked.Valerie stared at him. She wasn't running away. What else was she supposed to do? "Not so fast," he mumbled, pulling her closer to him.He locked his lips on hers, kissing her so tightly. Valerie groaned. She tried to pull away but he held her close.Leonard's hands moved around her waist. He pulled her to sit on his lap. Valerie moved slightly, trying to stand up. His hands held her waist pulling her closer to him.Valerie wanted to punch him but she couldn't. He seemed to have suspected that, because he held her hands with his left hand while holding her closely to himself with his right hand.Valerie groaned. How long was he going to kiss her even when she wasn't kissing him back?He bit her lips and then released her. Valerie stood up from his lap, nursing her bitten lips, while trying to catch her breath."That's your punishment," he mumbled with a smirk.Valerie was supposed
Valerie could not understand why Diana was being dragged into the situation. That they are brother and sister doesn't mean Diana is involved. There isn't any proof yet that Bryan is in cahoots with Luella or Beta Nathan.Valerie shook her head. "You can't do that. She's not even working with me as the Luna.""Do you think she wouldn't know?" Leonard asked. "Luella already knows you are married to me right?"Valerie nodded. What does that prove?"Bryan will definitely know that too. If he does, why do you think Diana won't?"Valerie groaned. She understands that Leonard might have trust issues. Maybe because of what happened to his parents but that doesn't mean he has to suspect everyone."I don't think Luella told him," Valerie answered.Leonard scoffed. "You don't think? You're not even sure.""Because Bryan never said anything about it to me," Valerie answered. She was getting pissed off but she tried to keep her cool. "Luella promised to keep it a secret."Leonard scoffed again. "A
"Are they werewolves?" Valerie whispered. "I don't think they are.""Of course, they are. Why would you say that?""I..."Leonard tapped the table slightly and they stopped talking."Babe," he called.Valerie looked around for whom Leonard was referring to.Ariel nudged her. "He is talking to you."Valerie blinked slightly. He had never called her that not even in front of the elders. Why is he calling her that now?"Ye-yes?""These are the teachers I have chosen for you. They are the best. You can decide to have them all as your teachers or you can choose the ones you want."Valerie stared at them. She didn't feel comfortable around them. She didn't know why."Have you made your choice?" Ariel asked."They can all stay," Valerie answered."Thank you, Luna," they chorused uniformly."Arden, you can take them out and brief them again on the rules and their jobs," Leonard said."Yes, Alpha," Arden stood up and bowed. "Come with me," he told the teachers and they followed him out.Valeri
"He did not use a ruthless means to win them over but he also did not let them override him. He punishes anyone who tries to harm the Pack. Although the Pack members did not know this was the reason a lot of people were punished, they believed he punished others without investigation and always punished good people."Leonard did not make it clear, did he?"Why did he not tell them?""Because he thinks they don't need to know," Ariel answered."Is he not scared that they will misunderstand him? Which of course they are already doing," Valerie said."He doesn't care," Ariel answered. "I think it's a good thing though."Valerie sighed. Maybe it is. However, she doesn't think that."So what are you going to do?" Ariel asked. "About him investigating Diana?"Valerie shrugged. Is there anything she can do? "He can go ahead and investigate her. I know she is innocent."Ariel nodded. "That way you will not have to worry about anything."Valerie turned to face her. "I have been meaning to ask
"I am not doubting you," Leonard answered. "But I need to keep you safe."Valerie did not believe that Leonard intended to keep her safe, but she said nothing.Diana is a good person. She is certain about that. But she is still angry that he insisted on investigating her even when she said no.She did not say anything to him, nor did she look at him."Are you angry?" He asked, but Valerie ignored her. "You don't have to be. I am just looking out for you."Valerie shook her head. "No, you are not.""I am," Leonard answered. "Why would you even say that?""I told you not to investigate her. Diana is a good girl. She...""I never said she wasn't," Leonard cut her short.Valerie frowned. "Then why do you insist on investigating her?""Because those you trust can betray you."Valerie groaned. "Can? That doesn't mean they will, right?"Leonard stared at her. Why does Valerie not want to understand that he is trying to keep her safe? Why is she insisting that he shouldn't investigate her? H
Ariel smiled, lying on the bed. "You must be feeling sleepy." Valerie nodded and lay down too. She can't agree more. She is just happy that the wedding is finally over. "Good night, Val," Ariel mumbled. "Good night," Valerie answered. *** When Valerie opened her eyes, the surroundings felt unfa
The wedding preparation began; Elora and Ariel offered a lot of help. First, they spoke to Valerie to know what she wanted. Valerie told them she had nothing on her mind and they could go on with whatever they had in mind. "It's your wedding," Elora said. "You should be fully involved." "How abo
"Valerie has said a lot about you," Elora continued. "She doesn't get close to people or talk about them. For her to talk about you, she must like you a lot. And whoever my friend likes, I also like."Arden rolled his eyes, mimicking Elora's last sentence. He kind of likes their friendshi
Arden announced to the elders that they were leaving and might be back. But if they do not return, they should go on and have fun.Valerie, Arden, and Ariel left the conference hall together and went down the hallway. After walking past the first three rooms, they stopped. Arden knocked at the door
