LOGINThe giant grey wolf stared at Seraphina with cold, silver eyes. It was Aurora. She had fully shifted into her beast form, and her massive body was tense, ready to spring. A low, rumbling growl vibrated in the wolf’s throat, and thick, warm saliva dripped from its long, white fangs.
Seraphina did not have her silver daggers. She was completely unarmed. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird, but she forced her body to remain still. She knew that if she ran, the wolf’s hunting instincts would kick in instantly, and Aurora would tear her to pieces before she could even reach the castle doors.
"Aurora," Seraphina said, keeping her voice as steady and flat as possible. "Don't do this."
The grey wolf only snarled louder, its ears pinning back against its head. With a powerful leap, the massive beast launched itself forward, aiming its deadly jaws straight for Seraphina's throat.
Seraphina’s training kicked in. She didn't freeze. Just as the wolf’s heavy body was about to crash into her, Seraphina dropped to the ground and rolled hard to the right.
The wolf missed, its heavy paws landing with a loud thud on the stone pathway where Seraphina had been standing a second ago. Aurora spun around quickly, her claws scraping loudly against the stone, leaving deep white scratches in the rock. She was furious that she had missed her target.
Seraphina scrambled to her feet, her breath coming in short, rapid gasps. She looked around the dark garden, desperately searching for anything she could use as a weapon. There was nothing but rosebushes, stone benches, and tall oak trees.
The grey wolf lunged again.
This time, Seraphina ran toward a large stone fountain in the center of the garden. She jumped onto the edge of the fountain just as Aurora’s jaws snapped shut, missing her ankle by mere inches.
The sound of the wolf's teeth crashing together was terrifying.
"Help!" Seraphina wanted to scream, but she knew the guards were still busy clearing the courtyard of dead rogues. Nobody could hear her over the noise of the wind and the distant shouting. She was completely on her own.
Aurora circled the fountain, her silver eyes locked onto Seraphina. She was playing with her prey now. She knew the human had nowhere left to run. The wolf let out a mocking huff of air and leaped onto the edge of the fountain.
Seraphina didn't wait. She gathered all her strength and jumped off the fountain, landing hard on the grass below. The impact sent a sharp pain through her knees, but she ignored it. She pushed herself up and ran toward a thick grove of trees. If she could get between the tight trunks, the massive wolf wouldn't be able to move as fast.
But Aurora was a born predator. She was incredibly fast.
Before Seraphina could reach the first tree, a heavy, hairy force slammed directly into her back. The weight of the giant wolf knocked Seraphina face-first into the dirt. The wind was completely knocked out of her lungs. She gasped for air, her vision going black for a second.
She rolled onto her back just in time to see Aurora standing over her. The wolf's massive paws pinned Seraphina’s shoulders to the damp ground. The heavy scent of wet fur and blood filled Seraphina's nose. The wolf lowered its head, its hot, stinking breath washing over Seraphina’s face.
Seraphina stared up at the sharp fangs. She could see the pure, murderous hatred in the wolf’s silver eyes. This was it. She was going to die here, in the dark, and nobody would ever know the truth.
She closed her eyes, preparing for the pain of the bite.
Suddenly, a deafening, thunderous roar echoed through the garden.
The ground beneath them seemed to shake. The pressure in the air changed instantly, becoming thick and suffocating. It was the aura of an Alpha. A very powerful Alpha.
Aurora’s head snapped up. She whimpered softly, her ears dropping in fear.
"Get off her!" a deep, furious voice boomed.
Seraphina opened her eyes.
Kael stood at the edge of the clearing. He had not shifted into his wolf, but his human form radiated absolute, terrifying power. His chest was bare, covered in dirt and sweat, and his golden eyes were glowing so brightly they looked like two burning coals in the dark. His hands were clenched into tight fi
sts, his veins popping against his skin.
The heavy oak doors of the princess’s chambers clicked shut, cutting off the distant, chaotic noises of the palace courtyard. Seraphina stood perfectly still in the center of her room, her back straight and her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. The silence of her room was thick, almost suffocating. Her hands were still trembling slightly, the adrenaline from the rogue attack still pumping hot through her veins.I don't know Now let me knowSlowly, she lifted her right arm and looked down at it. She touched her smooth skin with her fingers. There was no pain. There was no deep, ugly laceration from the rogue wolf’s claws. There was only a long smear of dried, dark blood across her forearm to prove that she had even been touched during the fight."How?" she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible in the quiet room. She walked over to her elegant marble washbasin. She poured cool water from a silver pitcher and began to wash the dried blood away. As the water turned
Aurora hesitated for a fraction of a second, her claws still resting on Seraphina's shoulders."I said, get off her now!" Kael roared, stepping forward. The sheer force of his Alpha command was too strong to resist. Aurora whimpered loudly, lifted her paws, and scrambled backward, away from Seraphina. She retreated into the shadows of the trees, her tail tucked tightly between her legs.Kael was beside Seraphina in an instant. He knelt in the dirt, his large hands immediately grabbing her arms to pull her up. His touch was warm, almost burning, against her cold skin."Are you alright?" he asked. His voice was rough, but for a split second, Seraphina heard a trace of panic in it. His golden eyes searched her face and body, looking for any signs of fresh blood.Seraphina pushed his hands away, refusing his help. She dragged herself up, using a nearby tree to stabilize her shaking legs. She wiped the dirt from her face, staring at him with cold anger."I am fine," she spat, her voice tre

The golden light fading from Seraphina's arm left the remaining rogue wolves whimpering in pure terror. Realizing they were facing a force they could not understand, the beasts turned and scattered into the dark forest, retreating as fast as they could. The danger was gone, but the sudden rush of magic completely drained Seraphina's strength. Her vision blurred, her knees buckled, and she fell weakly onto the cold cobblestones, darkness swallowing her whole. When Seraphina opened her eyes, she was lying on her massive bed. The room was quiet except for the crackling fireplace. She groaned softly, turning her head, and instantly froze.Kael was sitting right beside her on the mattress. His large frame towered over her, his golden eyes burning with an intense, unreadable emotion. For a second, she thought he might thank her for scaring the rogues away. Instead, his jaw tightened."You are reckless," Kael growled, his deep voice rough and angry. "You could have died out there. You fell d
Seraphina ran until her lungs burned. She did not go to her bedroom to hide and cry like a helpless victim. She was not that weak little girl from the woods anymore. The humiliation in the throne room had broken her heart, but as the tears dried on her face, a hot, fiery anger took over. How dare Kael insult her like that? How dare he call her a useless orphan in front of the entire court? She had dedicated her whole life to this pack. She had saved his father’s life. She deserved respect.Seraphina marched straight into her quarters. She ripped off the elegant green gown, throwing it carelessly onto the floor. She pulled on her tight black leather training pants, a simple black tank top, and laced up her heavy combat boots. She grabbed her twin silver daggers, sliding them into the holsters on her thighs. She needed to hit something. She needed to release the rage boiling in her veins. She headed out to the private training grounds at the back of the castle. It was an isolated area s
Eighteen years passed in the blink of an eye.The ragged, starving little girl from the woods was completely gone. In her place stood an eighteen-year-old woman with sharp intelligence, glowing skin, and a fierce spirit. Seraphina had grown up under the protective wing of Alpha King Draven, trained by the best warriors, and treated like true royalty. But today, the air inside the grand throne room felt suffocatingly heavy.Seraphina stood at the center of the cold marble floor, her heart hammering against her ribs. At the front of the room, King Draven sat on his massive stone throne. He looked older now, his face lined with exhaustion, his legendary strength slowly fading.Line up beside him were his four sons. The four princes of the realm."The time has come, Seraphina," Draven’s deep voice echoed through the silent room. He looked at her with unconditional love, but his eyes were deadly serious. "My health is failing, and the kingdom needs security. Before I pass my crown, I must
