MALIA’S POV

“Why… do you smell like another Alpha?”

The question doesn’t just land, it cuts… deeper than anything.

I sprayed the special perfume; he shouldn’t be able to tell any scent on me, or did I spray the wrong one?

“Malia…”

I don’t answer.

I don’t move.

Because anything I do right now—anything at all—will give me away.

Emil’s grip tightens around my hands, not enough to hurt, but enough to remind me who he is.

“Answer me.” His voice is dangerously low, making it worse.

He steps closer again, closing the distance I created earlier, his presence pressing in without actually touching me this time.

“Who Is he?” he asks.

I force my face into something neutral, “No one. I’ve been using a different perfume. That’s what you must’ve perceived.”

His gaze sharpens.

“This scent isn’t ‘some new perfume’ Malia.”

My pulse pounds, but I don’t let it show. “You’re imagining things.”

A small, humorless exhale leaves him.

“You’re lying to me.”

My chest tightens, but I hold his gaze. “And you’re reaching.”

I force a breath through my nose, lifting my chin just enough to meet his gaze. “You disappear for two years,” I say evenly, “and the first thing you do when you come back is interrogate me?”

“Don’t twist this.”  He spat, taking sharp breaths as if it would calm the furry behind his gaze.

“I’m not twisting anything” I snatch my hand away from his. Moving to the accusation ground is risky.  But it’s the only way out for me right now.

Emil just came back, and if this scent was enough to rile him up, telling him everything that happened last night right now… would only do more harm than good. He wouldn’t understand.

“Then tell me.” his voice hardens, “why does my mate smells like she’s been in another Alpha’s arms.”

Heat flashes through me, sharp and immediate. I pull my hands out of his grasp, taking a step back. “Careful, Emil.”

His eyes darken. “Careful?” he repeats, low. “You think I won’t ask questions when something is clearly—”

“You lost the right.”

The words slice through him before he can finish.

Silence crashes between us.

For a second, I see it—the flicker of something raw in his expression. Then it’s gone, Replaced by something colder.

“You think I lost my place?”

“I think you walked away from it.”

His lips press into a thin line, something dangerous settling behind his eyes. “You’re my mate.”

“And you were gone,” I shoot back, my voice rising despite myself. “No calls. No messages. No explanations. Just silence. So don’t stand here and act like you still get to question me like nothing changed.”

“Everything I did—”

“Was your choice. You could have come back when you got injured. But you didn’t, you tossed me aside like I meant nothing. So whatever right you think you have over me? You don’t. You never had it to begin with. I’m your mate not your possession!”

His shoulders tense. He turns away from me, dragging a hand through his hair, pacing once… twice… When he faces me again, the anger is gone.

That should have relieved me.

It doesn’t.

He steps back, creating space between us.

“The ambushed on the road to Darkfang. Wasn’t a random attack. It was a Coordinated plan.”

My chest tightens.

“It was one of Draven’s many attempts.”

Many.

The word doesn’t sit right.

“I almost lost my men,” Emil continues. “Resources. Territory along the eastern border nearly collapsed. I had two choices—come back weak… or stay and rebuild something stronger.”

“And you chose to disappear.”

“I chose to win.”

The way he says it sends something cold down my spine, it wasn’t defensive or regretful.

But certain.

“I secured alliances,” he goes on, stepping closer again, slower this time. “Stronger packs. Smarter leaders. Wolves who understand what it takes to survive what’s coming.”

“What’s coming?” I dared.

His lips curve slightly “War.”

The word settles heavy between us.

“Draven isn’t just threatening borders anymore,” Emil continues. “He’s expanding. Taking land that doesn’t belong to him. Breaking packs that won’t submit.”

“But that can’t be possible. Draven and I came to a middle ground”

“Middle ground?” he lets out a dry chuckle. “With a woman?”

I didn’t like how he said that.

“Is there anything wrong with that?”

He lets out a sigh.

“Do you think we’d still be alive and well if we sat idlily waiting for you to save us?” I spat.

The threats got worse after Emil left. As the luna, I knew I had to figure out a way, or the entire pack would’ve been wiped out, or forced into slavery.

“Draven and I signed a treaty. He gave me his words and we have been on good terms ever since”

Terms so good, you ended up his bed.

“Draven is a liar! He gave you his word because he was busy trying to assassinate me.”

“It’s been almost two years since I signed the treaty and Draven has been nothing but cordial, he kept his end of the bargain. Even helped when we needed more hands on the farms once.”

“The attack could’ve been from anyone, maybe another enemy or—”

“I am an alpha damn it” Emil hissed “I know how things work when it comes to an invader like Draven, the only language he understands is violence.”

“Not everything needs to be sorted through war.”

“When you drop the ego and actually talk, for once. You might save more than your pride, lives of those you’re sending out to fight matters. They have people who love them. People who see them as more than disposable pieces in power plays”

Emil’s eyes narrow at me for a second.

“First, you defended Draven, now warriors?”

“I’m not defending anyone; I’m stating facts.”

“Stating facts?” He muses.

“Yes. There are other ways to solve problems. Look into the attack, have solid evidence before you accuse anyone.”

Emil doesn’t respond. he studies me, Long and carefully.

Like he’s memorizing every reaction.

Every breath.Every possible crack. And that’s when I know—

“Alright,” he breaks the silence. then pulled on his shirt “Whoever he is. He won’t be a problem for long.”

A chill runs down my spine, and for the first time since I walked into this room—

I’m not thinking about what I did,  I’m thinking about who I did it with.

If Emil finds out the truth—It’ll definitely be a war.

MALIA’S POVMy heart skipped. The older man’s smile widened as we approached, though the moment his eyes settled fully on me, it faltered for the briefest second.“….you weren’t lying?” He sounded genuinely stunned.“I don’t make a habit of lying to you, Father,” Draven replied, a trace of impatience creeping into his otherwise calm tone.Father.The word landed a second too late. This…This was Mikyal Thornefield. The former Alpha of thornhold territories. The man whose name alone was enough to make powerful Alphas lower their voices. Stories about him had spread across every pack I’d ever visited. Some called him the greatest ruler the werewolf world had ever known. Others simply called him merciless. How had I forgotten whose house I was walking into?My pulse lurched.Draven’s hand settled more firmly against the small of my back, pulling me half a step closer. To anyone watching, it looked natural. Protective, even, but to me, it felt like a warning.“Well,” Mikyal said, recoveri

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   38: AN EXCELLENT TIME

MALIA’S POV Draven’s hand didn’t leave the small of my back until we reached the car. The pressure wasn’t rough, but it wasn’t gentle either. It was firm enough to steer me forward without a word, as though he’d already decided where I belonged and expected my feet to follow. Somehow, in the middle of everything that had happened, I’d forgotten about my ankle. The sharp ache that had followed me since the fall had disappeared beneath the overwhelming relief of walking away from Silver Claw. I was free. Or at least… I wanted to believe I was. A guard opened the rear door before we reached it. Draven waited just long enough for me to climb inside before following after me. The door shut with a muted thud, sealing us inside the quiet car. The engine came to life. No one spoke. Outside, Silver Claw slowly disappeared behind us. The towering gates grew smaller with every passing second until they vanished beyond the winding road. I should have felt happy. Instead, a

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   37: I’M NOT HIS LUNA ANYMORE

EMIL’S POV My attention remained fixed on the stone table as Councilman Jerry calmly explained the finer details of the agreement. Trade routes. Tariffs. Royal protection. Benefits capable of elevating Silver Claw far beyond its current standing. Every Alpha on the continent wanted access to the King's trade network. Very few ever received it. Across the courtyard, Ajax excused himself before leading Malia back into the pack house to collect her belongings. My jaw tightened. I hated that. Hated watching another man walk beside her as though he belonged there. Every instinct I possessed urged me to stop them. To tell Malia she wasn't leaving. To remind everyone she was still my chosen mate. But instincts didn't build strong packs. Reason did. If I challenged the Alpha King now, I already knew how it would end. Silver Claw would lose. My pack would lose. And if I intended to get Malia back... Then I needed patience. Jerry continued explaining the agre

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   36: GO INSIDE .

EMIL'S POV "I don't require your belief." The words settled over the courtyard with unsettling finality. A loud ringing filled my ears as I stood before the Alpha King, the voices around me fading until all I could hear was the pounding of my own heartbeat. None of this made any sense. I wasn't a man who overlooked details. Every decision I made was calculated, every move considered long before I acted. I didn't make careless mistakes. So why did it feel as though I'd missed something so obvious? Malia was my mate. I had brought her into Silver Claw with my own hands. I had saved her life. I had given her a home when she had nowhere else to go. And now the Alpha King stood before my entire pack, claiming she was his fated mate? "Maybe because she's his mate... not yours." Briar's voice echoed lazily inside my head. I shut him out. I wasn't in the mood for his nonsense. My eyes found Malia. The same woman who had stood beside me for years. The same w

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   35: YOUR FATED MATE?

DRAVEN'S POVComing here was a waste of time. I had meetings to attend, investigations to oversee, and reports waiting on my desk. This entire handoff was a formality Ajax and councilman Jerry could have handle it without me. But if I was going to convince my father she was my mate, I needed to show I cared, even if I didn’t. Yet for some reason… the scene before me made my jaw tighten. Children stood crying at the edge of the courtyard, while adults watched as if this were some spectacle.I had known something was wrong the moment I saw her missed calls. Three missed calls from Malia weren't normal. Not after I'd told her to wait. Then again, I expected trouble when I arrived at Silver Claw; the pack and its alpha had been on my watchlist for potential problems for nearly two years now. The neighbouring packs had voiced concerns for quite some time.Still, I hadn’t expected this. Their luna surrounded by guards. Fresh marks forming around her arms. The stubborn lift of her chin a

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   34: NO PROTECTION.

MALIA’S POV. For the first time, Emil’s mask cracked. Only for a second. His jaw tightened. Eyes darkened. The hand resting on the chair stopped moving. “Malia.” My name left his mouth lower than before. Not a command. Not anger. Something else. But I refused to let myself wonder what. Everyone here had heard me. Everyone here would remember. My eyes locked with his. “You wanted freedom from me just as much as I wanted freedom from you. Let’s call it as it is and end it. ” His gaze sharpened. “You believe that?” I almost laughed. “Does it matter?” The muscles in his jaw moved. For a moment, it looked like he wanted to say something. Then pride won. He leaned back slowly, his expression turning cold again. “If that is your choice…” His voice was quiet. “Then you will no longer receive the elders’ protection.” My brows pulled together. “Guards.” The single word made my blood run cold. Two guards stepped forward. “Take Malia to the cells.” “What?”

MALIA’S POVThe metal cuff scraped harshly against my skin as I twisted my wrist sideways again, forcing myself not to hiss from the sting. Blake had once shown me how to slip free from restraints during emergency training. At the time, I remembered laughing at him for being overly dramatic.Funny,

MALIA’S POV The words came out colder than I intended. “They have a new Luna now,” I continued bitterly. “Go ask her to save your precious pack.” A strange look crossed Flora’s face. “You have been Luna long before she was,” Flora said softly. “You are still the first Luna of this pack. A Luna

MALIA’S POV “Drop the gun, Malia.” His voice came out low and sharp enough to slice through the cabin. But I only tightened my grip around the silver gun, flicking the safety off with trembling fingers. My chest rose unevenly as another wave of dizziness hit me, though I refused to let him see
