4: JUST FOR TONIGHT.

MALIA’S POV.

“Your phone has been ringing a lot more than usual today.”

Zara sets another jar of herbs on the counter, eyeing me carefully.

I glance at the screen and my stomach tightens instantly.

Draven.

Again.

This was the third call since that night. I still haven’t opened any of his texts. Or the emails. Because I already knew what they’d say.

And with Emil back…

My thumb presses reject before I can think twice. I shove the phone back into my pocket.

“I’m sorry about that.” I grab the clipboard again. “Now, where were we?”

Zara doesn’t answer immediately.

“The herbs,” I repeat. “How many bundles are left?”

Still nothing.

“Zara.”

“I thought you’d be the happiest person in the pack right now.”

My grip tightens slightly around the clipboard. “Who said I’m not happy?”

She folds her arms. “You stayed loyal to Alpha Emil for two years while everyone told you to move on. Now he’s finally back and you look... miserable.”

I keep my eyes on the inventory sheet.

Zara’s honesty was one of the things I liked most about her, It was also one of the most annoying.

“Last night at dinner, you barely spoke to him.”

“He came back yesterday after two years of silence,” I mutter, scribbling down numbers. “If you expect us to jump into each other’s arms immediately, you’re expecting too much.”

“I’m not saying that, but the way you both acted—”

“You’re reading too deeply into nothing.”

She wasn’t. I don’t even know what Emil and I are right now. Ever since I stormed out yesterday, he hasn’t tried speaking to me again.

At dinner, he barely looked my way.

The only thing he told me before leaving for the border was that guests from one of his new alliances would be arriving tomorrow.

That was it.

Two years ago, Emil never let arguments sit unresolved. If something was wrong between us, he fixed it immediately.

Now?

It feels like we’re both waiting for the other person to break first.

“Luna,” Grace calls from across the room. “Aida needs your opinion on the flowers.”

***

Hours later, the eastern hall was still chaos.

Flowers covered half the tables. Omegas rushed in and out carrying silver trays while Zara argued with the kitchen staff over spices.

I should’ve left hours ago.

Instead, I buried myself deeper into the preparations. Working was easier than thinking.

Emil still hadn’t given an exact number for the guests. All Blake told me was that they’d be hosting them in the eastern hall.

The eastern hall.

A place reserved for galas, ceremonies, weddings.

Not ordinary dinners. Which meant this wasn’t ordinary. And the more I thought about it, the less I liked it.

“He wants you to ask questions,” a voice in my head whispered.

Maybe.

Maybe Emil expected me to corner him. Demand answers. Break the silence first... Too bad I was too exhausted to play whatever game this was.

By the time preparations finally ended, my entire body ached.

I headed back to our chambers hoping Emil had returned.

He hadn’t.

“The alpha left for another patrol near the western border,” Blake informed me after dinner.

He think to telling me.

The irritation sat heavier than it should have.

For the rest of the night, I tossed restlessly beneath the sheets, waiting for the sound of the door, but nothing came.

At some point, exhaustion dragged me under.

The next time I opened my eyes, the mattress dipped behind me.

Warm arms wrapped around my waist.

My body tensed automatically.

“Emil—”

“Don’t.” His voice comes rough against the back of my neck. Tired. Frayed around the edges. “Can we not do this tonight?”

Sleep still clouded my thoughts, but even then, I knew this wasn’t fixing anything.

I should’ve pushed him away.

Should’ve ended this before things became even messier.

But his grip tightened slightly, almost desperate.

“Just tonight,” he murmured.

His breathing was uneven now.

“Can we just stay like this… for tonight?”

I went still.

Because for the first time since Emil came back—he sounded... almost afraid.

MALIA’S POVMy heart skipped. The older man’s smile widened as we approached, though the moment his eyes settled fully on me, it faltered for the briefest second.“….you weren’t lying?” He sounded genuinely stunned.“I don’t make a habit of lying to you, Father,” Draven replied, a trace of impatience creeping into his otherwise calm tone.Father.The word landed a second too late. This…This was Mikyal Thornefield. The former Alpha of thornhold territories. The man whose name alone was enough to make powerful Alphas lower their voices. Stories about him had spread across every pack I’d ever visited. Some called him the greatest ruler the werewolf world had ever known. Others simply called him merciless. How had I forgotten whose house I was walking into?My pulse lurched.Draven’s hand settled more firmly against the small of my back, pulling me half a step closer. To anyone watching, it looked natural. Protective, even, but to me, it felt like a warning.“Well,” Mikyal said, recoveri

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   38: AN EXCELLENT TIME

MALIA’S POV Draven’s hand didn’t leave the small of my back until we reached the car. The pressure wasn’t rough, but it wasn’t gentle either. It was firm enough to steer me forward without a word, as though he’d already decided where I belonged and expected my feet to follow. Somehow, in the middle of everything that had happened, I’d forgotten about my ankle. The sharp ache that had followed me since the fall had disappeared beneath the overwhelming relief of walking away from Silver Claw. I was free. Or at least… I wanted to believe I was. A guard opened the rear door before we reached it. Draven waited just long enough for me to climb inside before following after me. The door shut with a muted thud, sealing us inside the quiet car. The engine came to life. No one spoke. Outside, Silver Claw slowly disappeared behind us. The towering gates grew smaller with every passing second until they vanished beyond the winding road. I should have felt happy. Instead, a

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   37: I’M NOT HIS LUNA ANYMORE

EMIL’S POV My attention remained fixed on the stone table as Councilman Jerry calmly explained the finer details of the agreement. Trade routes. Tariffs. Royal protection. Benefits capable of elevating Silver Claw far beyond its current standing. Every Alpha on the continent wanted access to the King's trade network. Very few ever received it. Across the courtyard, Ajax excused himself before leading Malia back into the pack house to collect her belongings. My jaw tightened. I hated that. Hated watching another man walk beside her as though he belonged there. Every instinct I possessed urged me to stop them. To tell Malia she wasn't leaving. To remind everyone she was still my chosen mate. But instincts didn't build strong packs. Reason did. If I challenged the Alpha King now, I already knew how it would end. Silver Claw would lose. My pack would lose. And if I intended to get Malia back... Then I needed patience. Jerry continued explaining the agre

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   36: GO INSIDE .

EMIL'S POV "I don't require your belief." The words settled over the courtyard with unsettling finality. A loud ringing filled my ears as I stood before the Alpha King, the voices around me fading until all I could hear was the pounding of my own heartbeat. None of this made any sense. I wasn't a man who overlooked details. Every decision I made was calculated, every move considered long before I acted. I didn't make careless mistakes. So why did it feel as though I'd missed something so obvious? Malia was my mate. I had brought her into Silver Claw with my own hands. I had saved her life. I had given her a home when she had nowhere else to go. And now the Alpha King stood before my entire pack, claiming she was his fated mate? "Maybe because she's his mate... not yours." Briar's voice echoed lazily inside my head. I shut him out. I wasn't in the mood for his nonsense. My eyes found Malia. The same woman who had stood beside me for years. The same w

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   35: YOUR FATED MATE?

DRAVEN'S POVComing here was a waste of time. I had meetings to attend, investigations to oversee, and reports waiting on my desk. This entire handoff was a formality Ajax and councilman Jerry could have handle it without me. But if I was going to convince my father she was my mate, I needed to show I cared, even if I didn’t. Yet for some reason… the scene before me made my jaw tighten. Children stood crying at the edge of the courtyard, while adults watched as if this were some spectacle.I had known something was wrong the moment I saw her missed calls. Three missed calls from Malia weren't normal. Not after I'd told her to wait. Then again, I expected trouble when I arrived at Silver Claw; the pack and its alpha had been on my watchlist for potential problems for nearly two years now. The neighbouring packs had voiced concerns for quite some time.Still, I hadn’t expected this. Their luna surrounded by guards. Fresh marks forming around her arms. The stubborn lift of her chin a

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   34: NO PROTECTION.

MALIA’S POV. For the first time, Emil’s mask cracked. Only for a second. His jaw tightened. Eyes darkened. The hand resting on the chair stopped moving. “Malia.” My name left his mouth lower than before. Not a command. Not anger. Something else. But I refused to let myself wonder what. Everyone here had heard me. Everyone here would remember. My eyes locked with his. “You wanted freedom from me just as much as I wanted freedom from you. Let’s call it as it is and end it. ” His gaze sharpened. “You believe that?” I almost laughed. “Does it matter?” The muscles in his jaw moved. For a moment, it looked like he wanted to say something. Then pride won. He leaned back slowly, his expression turning cold again. “If that is your choice…” His voice was quiet. “Then you will no longer receive the elders’ protection.” My brows pulled together. “Guards.” The single word made my blood run cold. Two guards stepped forward. “Take Malia to the cells.” “What?”

DRAVEN’S POV. The scent of wild berries and vanilla trailed after me even after I shut the rooftop door behind me. MALIA’S POV. “How fascinating.” He turned from the railing, leaning against it, a hint of amusement tugging at his lips. “A human gets in her feelings after her little mate comes home with another woman, and the first thing she thinks to do is make a deal with an Alpha King. Have him risk not
