Chapter 1

Penulis: Stars
When I returned to the villa with the potion, Sebastian was already at the dining table eating breakfast.

He frowned when he saw me walk in from outside. "You've been getting more and more out of control lately. Staying out all night now?

"A Luna should be poised and dignified. Look at you, still acting like a child."

I said nothing and hung my coat on the rack.

My sleeves were still damp with morning dew from the forest. If he had bothered to look at me closely, he would have noticed the mud caked on the soles of my shoes.

It hardly looked like I had been out partying all night.

I sat down at the table, staring at the breakfast that had long since gone cold. I took a bite of the fried egg.

"I think it's time I taught you the basics of being a Luna. Your behaviour has been getting worse by the day. You actually stayed out with your friends all night."

He finished the last bite on his plate and wiped the grease from the corner of his mouth, his tone carrying a lecturing edge.

"I'm working on a major deal right now. I need to visit another pack on business for three days. Take care of yourself while I'm gone."

I gave a faint nod. "Okay."

Whenever he went away on business trip, I would carefully pack his luggage for him. Worried that his stomach might act up or that he wouldn't adjust to the food elsewhere, I'd spend the night before preparing packed meals and slipping stomach medicine into his bag.

I would remind him over and over to take care of himself and to send me a mind-link once he arrived.

But today I did none of that. I just sat at the table eating my breakfast.

He repeated himself, disbelief creeping into his voice. "I said I'm leaving on a three-day business trip to another pack."

His eyes stayed on me, searching my face for even the slightest flicker of emotion.

But my face gave him nothing. I nodded. "Got it."

He paused, frowning at me. "What's with you today? You seem different."

"Nothing. I'm just tired. The stomach medicine is in my bag. You'll see it as soon as you open it."

Inside was not just stomach medicine, but also the mate bond potion I had just obtained.

But Sebastian didn't seem to notice. He simply sighed, took the stomach medicine from my bag, and slipped it into his pocket.

"I'm the Alpha. I deal with a thousand things every day, and you don't hear me complaining about being tired. I don't know what you have to be tired about."

Just then, his phone on the table suddenly rang.

Before I could see who was calling, Sebastian lunged forward and snatched his phone off the table.

The moment he saw the caller, a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth before he could stop it.

Then he hurried outside to take the call, where I couldn't hear.

Even though I hadn't seen the caller, that special ringtone told me exactly who it was: Vivian.

Sebastian's Beta.

I had once asked Sebastian why he gave Vivian her own ringtone.

He brushed me off, saying it was for work convenience.

I followed behind him. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but I could see him grinning at his phone.

When he came back, I asked casually, "Was that your Beta?"

He locked his screen, the faint smile still lingering on his lips. "Yes. She's coming with me on this trip."

I nodded and said nothing.

He rested his hand on my shoulder and said gently, "She and I are just colleagues. Don't overthink it."

I thought of the gleaming moonstone necklace in Vivian's post.

There was no way Sebastian didn't know what it meant. He knew full well that I would mind, but he did it anyway.

The promise I'd waited seven years to receive, he had casually given to someone else.

And now he was telling me not to overthink it.

He gripped my hand, and his tears finally fell. "Chloe, I'm sorry. I know I was wrong. After you left, I realized how much I love you. I can't get used to life without you. Please come back. I'll treat you twice as well, I promise."I yanked my hand free and took a step back."You don't love me. You just can't stand losing the maid who took care of you. Leave. I don't want to see you right now."I walked around him and headed straight home.He followed me to my apartment but didn't come upstairs. He stood outside all night. The next morning when I left for work, he was gone. After Sebastian left, my life settled back into peace. For a long time after that, I heard nothing from him. Then one day, I came across a news article on my phone. Sebastian had fallen into a deep depression. He had neglected the pack for so long that everything had begun to fall apart. One pack after another ended its partnership with his. Projects ground to a halt, and the pack sank deep into debt. The pack memb

I quickly adapted to life at the company. Every day was spent running experiments and writing reports. It was busy, but incredibly fulfilling. My life was meant to be limitless, not tied down by a tiny stone. One day on my way home from work, I came across a familiar figure.Sebastian stood a few steps away from me, travel-worn, his eyes rimmed red.He looked at me as though he'd finally gotten back the treasure he'd thought he'd lost forever."Chloe, I finally found you."Seeing him again, I felt nothing at all.I gave him nothing more than a passing glance before walking right past him, as though he were a stranger. He suddenly grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to face him. He'd lost a great deal of weight and looked utterly exhausted. A few strands of gray streaked his temples, and his eyes had sunk deep into their sockets. It was as though he'd aged ten years overnight. This wretched appearance was nothing like the polished Alpha image he once had."Chloe, I know I was wrong. I r

Suddenly his phone rang.Thinking I had changed my mind, he answered excitedly."Alpha, all the paperwork for the Luna's departure from the pack has been processed. Is there anything else you need us to handle?"Sebastian was bewildered. "What departure? Who left the pack?"The officer repeated cautiously, "The... the Luna."Sebastian's eyes went wide. He had assumed that even if I broke the mate bond, I would at least stay in the pack. And as long as I was in the pack, he would find me eventually. He never imagined I would actually leave the pack entirely."Who approved her departure? How could you make that decision on your own?"They had never seen the Alpha this furious. The clerk on the other end was trembling. "During that period, you delegated some of your authority to the Beta. She was the one who approved it."Vivian?Something clicked, and he immediately sent Vivian a mind-link.The moment the link connected, Vivian's irritated voice came through."Where did you go? How could

He found a small vial in the trash. He sniffed it carefully, and his face went pale.It was the mate bond potion. He finally understood the source of that sudden, unexplained pain. He finally knew why he hadn't been able to reach me through the mind-link.I had severed our mate bond. The realization sent him collapsing onto the sofa. He stared at the empty house.Only now did he realize how few things in this house had ever been mine. So few that a single suitcase was enough to hold them all.Only then did he realize how deeply he'd grown used to having me by his side. Without me, it felt as though a part of him had been torn away.A tear slid down his cheek. The bitterness and pain threatened to consume him.Sebastian called my best friend, Megan."Where's Chloe? Do you know where she is?"Megan scoffed on the other end. "Isn't she your mate? You can't even keep track of your own mate, and you think we'd know where she is?"Sebastian buried his face in his hands, his voice shaking. "C

The moment the plane landed, I spotted a familiar figure in the crowd."Elena!" I called out to her warmly. She smiled and took the suitcase from my hand."I'm so excited that you accepted my invitation. The top student in our School of Pharmacy is finally joining my company."Three months earlier, I'd received an invitation from Elena, a senior from my university. She had just founded a pharmaceutical company and wanted me to come work for her, offering a generous salary. But at the time, all I could think about was building a life with Sebastian, so I turned her down.Even after that, Elena reached out several more times, but I never gave her a definite answer.Until I saw the moonstone necklace Sebastian had given Vivian on her Instagram.Only then did I realize that everything I had been holding onto meant nothing to Sebastian.I reached out to Elena again and accepted her offer. This job gave me the courage to walk away.Elena arranged an apartment for me. Sebastian didn't come home until noon the next day.He reeked of alcohol, with a faint trace of perfume lingering on him.I recognized the scent immediately. It was Vivian's perfume.I was packing my bags.He saw me but didn't ask where I was going or what I was doing. He just gave me a cold look and said, "Go apologize to Vivian tomorrow."My hands froze over my suitcase. I stared at him in disbelief. "What did you just say? You want me to apologize?""That was Vivian's celebration, and you had to ruin it with your childish jealousy. She feels terrible now. She thinks she offended you, and she's been crying ever since."Go apologize to her tomorrow.""I'm not apologizing." My voice was calm but firm, leaving no room for argument.Sebastian tugged at his tie and dropped onto the sofa, irritated. He pulled a small box from his pocket and opened it to reveal an exquisite moonstone necklace."I won this necklace at an auction. Isn't this what you've always wanted? Just apologize, and I'll
