LOGINNyra’s POV
Vanessa recoiled back into her shell almost immediately. I had never spoken to her that way before. But I was done being so soft to leeches that deserved my fury. Silas scoffed harshly. “You want to act like a victim? Fine. Go ahead.” His voice rose louder. The laugh I had been holding back finally escaped my lips. The hall stayed in silence until I had laughed to my fill. Before this amount of scrutiny would have had me running for the hills and they knew it but I had died… that shyness had nothing on me. “You are still playing this card?” I asked, stepping closer slowly to the twins' disapproval. “You mean I should have walked down the aisle to marry you even after discovering my fiancé had already fathered a child with my own sister?” His expression twisted as gasps once again filled the echoed silence. “That was in the past.” In my past life, two days after the wedding… two of them had approached me with very detailed information on their affair. I confronted Silas and asked them to repeat themselves to which they did but he had a perfect answer and used his love to shift my view. The two maids had disappeared the next day and I hadn’t asked any questions. “The past? Wasn’t it common sense that your wife-to-be… and her father, the Alpha king, be aware that the child you had claimed was motherless was actually the son of my sister?” I coldly asked. His face gave away nothing, he hadn’t regretted it. “Call me a cheat all you want but I would have swallowed that deceit down my throat if I hadn’t seen with my very own eyes, my dearest sister sneaking out of your bedroom early this morning while on my morning stroll.” That finally did it. The polished mask shattered completely. And if these messy nobles hadn’t been loud enough, their murmurs doubled. “Fine! Since we’re apparently being honest now…” Silas barked. Vanessa grabbed his arm quickly. “Silas…” He shook her off violently. Perfect. “No! She wants honesty? Let her hear it.” The look on his face was rage… pre undiluted rage. And when men are angry, they make mistakes… They say things they shouldn’t say… things that would show everyone who they really are. His eyes burned into mine with contempt. “You were never good enough for me in the first place.” His words didn’t faze me one bit, especially since I knew he was capable of much worse. “You are nothing but a weak, spoiled and gullible princess… one whose authority as soon to be Alpha queen should be questioned.” he continued viciously. My nails dug into my palms. He had clearly crossed the line and if he was attained with his emotions… he would have probably seen the warning look on everyone’s face around him. “You couldn’t even awaken your wolf properly.” He laughed harshly. His words dragged me violently back toward my first life. Reminding me of every moment I had bent myself apart trying to become enough for him… trying to prove myself. “You were so desperate to be loved it was sooo pathetic.” He sneered Pain stabbed through me as I remembered the girl I used to be. That pathetic girl would have chosen him over and over again without waiting… I didn’t mind dying for him. I was such a fool. So yes I deserved this. “Do you know how embarrassing that was for me?” Dante stepped forward and almost immediately I felt the loss of his warmth. There was nothing calm about Dante right now. “This is why we need the sexy brothers.” Serenyz purred in delight. I watched as he tried to keep his anger under restraint. It was amusing in a weird way. My eyes trailed from his face down to his shoulder muscles that tensed and released in a loop. I felt Rhys close the gap between us before his arms wrapped around me… I found myself leaning back into the warmth he provided. His breath fanned against the nape of my neck causing spams of shivers to race down my spine… he was making it hard for me to think straight. Rhys didn’t have an idea of the effect he had on me. Serenyz chipped in almost immediately, “How about the effect you are having on him for him to crave your bodily heat.” I shut her down almost immediately. And pushed her teasing down my throat before my face could go up in flames. Dante pulled me back to the present, “I’d refrain from making stupid comments about a woman that publicly claimed us.” The room froze. My heartbeat stumbled violently. Silas looked stunned for half a second before fury consumed him entirely. “Claimed?” he barked out a laugh. And only stopped when he saw that no one around him found it funny. “You think kissing a desperate woman makes her yours?” “You’re angry, because you lost something you never valued.” Rhys suddenly said from behind me. Silas’s expression transitioned into something far more uglier than his character. “You know nothing about me, you walking dead.” “No but I’m less than thirty minutes away from helping you close your mouth… you have shown us all what kind of a man you are.” Dante coldly said. “A disgusting, narcissistic man that hides under the cowardice of lies… even the blind can see that the lipstick on your shirt doesn’t match the shade on her lips.” As expected Silas was going to blame everyone but himself. "Is this what you've been doing behind my back? Fucking the damn Vale curse?!" Silas bellowed. Before I could react, Rhys’s hands wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me flush against him. Heat shot violently through my spine as his lips brushed near my ear. “Should we teach him a lesson, beautiful?” he asked softly, although very audibly. For some reason, the question startled me because he sounded like he genuinely needed my permission. He was handing me the reins to make me feel in control. I knew men like Rhys Vale never truly surrendered control to anyone. My throat tightened. But the truth was... I wasn't in control. My legs were beginning to tremble. I couldn't think at all, not when his fingers were still on my waist drawing circles. A lump grew in my throat and I swallowed it down fast. "I don't know..." I breathed, my eyes lifting to his. "Maybe?" His silver eyes flickered to Dante's. "Beautiful doesn't want to see the dog's face," he said to his brother who smirked. "Got it." Dante turned to look at Silas whose eyes were now red, with his chest heaving like a machine. “Step back, Silas Holt” Silas growled, squaring his shoulders in challenge. "Make me you fuckers!" He yelled as he lunged. "Bunch of fuckers! Screwing every whore within…" That was all it took. The hall erupted into screams as Dante’s fist collided hard with Silas’s jaw, sending him stumbling backward into a table of champagne glasses. The crash echoed violently through the room. Everyone knew better than to sit still in their seats. Screams came from every corner of the hall. Silas recovered quickly, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth before throwing himself in reckless abandon at Dante with a snarl. Rhys didn’t even blink in the panic. Instead, he kept me tucked against him while watching the fight unfold with a very familiar look of amusement. “Should we help him?” I asked faintly. Rhys looked down at me like I’d said something ridiculous. It wasn’t a question… Unable to hold his gaze I looked back at the ongoing fight to see Silas face all bloodied up and swollen. “Princess…” Rhys murmured, his arms still wrapped securely around me. Another sickening crunch echoed across the hall and I gulped as Dante smiled down at a bloody Silas. “I think your ex-fiancé should be far more concerned about surviving this fight without permanent scars.”Nyra's POVMy breath caught for only a second as Silas walked in looking every bit as confident as ever. The last time I’d seen him was when he’d scurried away after Rhys’s threat. This time, however, he didn’t look at me.And I was certain it wasn’t because he couldn’t but rather because he was still trying to come to terms with the fact that I… I was sitting exactly where I was.The hearing began and his petition was read aloud. The room was calm as his accusation rang in the hall and by the time they were done, the room felt colder than it had been earlier.Father's expression remained unreadable as he said, “Present your defense.”Rhys was the one that stood for me.He calmly laid the first stack of documents before the council, making sure the guards had given every member before he started.“I won’t begin by defending a woman whose work has yet to speak for her.”“Instead, I’ll rather start with the legacy left behind by the man who occupied her administrative seat.”A sigh esca
Nyra’s POVDad left to speak with the elders, leaving me alone with the twins. And no matter how many times I tried to deter them just so I could have a moment to myself, they remained glued to my heels.I tried walking towards my car but Dante blocked the path, redirecting me to their limousine.I sighed and simply followed suit.I had a feeling they were using me as their restraint. I’d watched both of them nearly lose their cool earlier, and honestly, I didn’t want anything stressing me out even more.My mind had been more occupied with them than with the fact that Vanessa had just walked away scot-free.Dante held the door open while Rhys offered me his hand as though we hadn’t spent the past few days arguing, nearly killing people, surviving assassination attempts.Ridiculous clingy men.I accepted Rhys's hand anyway. His fingers wrapped around mine briefly before helping me inside. After waking up to find that both of them had stayed awake all night watching over me… I didn’t tr
Rhys's POVA gold, intricately crafted bracelet. And judging from the gasps that echoed round the room, everyone in this hall recognized.Myself included.Vanessa had worn it since the time her mother had dumped her at the Alpha kings door, during the time she had tried to get closer to us… she had gone on and on, telling the story of how her mother had left it to her as a farewell gift. The maid held it up desperately.“Ms. Vanessa had given this to me as a form of collateral until I got the job done.”Whispers erupted throughout the hall.My eyes stayed on Vanessa hoping she’d let out a guilty emotion slip but she looked so calm and just stared at the bracelet without a hint of panic.“That bracelet is your proof?” She scoffed, eyeing the maid up before turning to Nyra, “I've been searching for that for months.”Her voice remained steady as she continued, “I still don't know why I have to be dragged into this psycho killer plan… she must have stolen that from my room and now wants t
Rhys's POVI didn’t trust Dante to act accordingly. The look in his eyes the day before was enough to tell me he couldn’t keep his wolf in check. He was still walking the thin line between control and chaos… his wolf and common sense. One wrong word from anyone or one dirty move, and his wolf would take over.We didn’t bother catching up with Nyra immediately. She was still tense. And if I knew her enough to be sure that, she needed this space to rather herself more than our company.Silence settled between us as we walked. My eyes drifted to Dante again, assessing him properly this time and this time, he looked calm. For now, that was enough.I exhaled slowly and turned my attention back to Nyra. She walked a short distance ahead of us with her chin held high. But knowing her, this was just a facade.Beneath her poise was glaring exhaustion… it sat in the subtle stiffness of her shoulders. And then the subtle glances at every corner we passed… she was barely holding herself together
Dante's POVI couldn't sleep… My wolf refused to settle further, adding to my paranoia of closing my eyes and not seeing her.Every rustle of leaves beyond the windows had him on high alert…Ready to lose our cool on another fool who wants to try their luck. The memory of that knife barely missing Nyra’s frozen figure flashed in my head every time I closed my eyes.It had all been too fucking close. And once again, I feared for what would have happened if we hadn't been alerted. After watching and confirming that even the servants had retreated back to their quarters, I moved my focus back to Nyra.I… We had lived that life for the longest of time, regretting why we had let her go.The thought that someone there was already plotting to end her life was scary.I was the big bad wolf and all my life I had never known fear… I was the feared.Nyra was the only one that had caused my heart to skip beats at the mere thought of being away… talk more of her dying. The only sound that filled m
Nyra's POV Of course it had to be my dearest step-sister. I wasn't surprised…not even a little. I had known it was either one of the two and judging from the timing of the event, it was obvious they weren't working together. If they had been, Silas wouldn't have submitted an appeal for my removal on the same day Vannessa sends her dog. Dad sighed… his action was the only thing that broke the silence, he wouldn't rub it in but he had always told me the truth about Vanessa. Now I can see it hasn't always been about wanting more attention and power. Vanessa wanted me out… and it was scary to know that had been her every thought from the start… I had thought it was Silas with ambition. But now I didn't want Silas even after she had him… she had lost her damn mind. My eyes strayed to the maid that was shaking in her boots and I wondered how Nessa had gotten her to repeat the same act twice. In both my lives, she had proven that there was no line she wouldn't cross to ge
Nyra’s POVI rolled my eyes immediately.Unfortunately, that only made him grin wider before both brothers finally disappeared outside. The room instantly felt lighter once they were gone. And somehow…emptier too.It wasn't like I was expecting them to sleep here. Now that I thought about it, where
Nyra’s POVI would do anything to know what was going on through that man’s head.Perhaps he was sporting thoughts of what went wrong and when?If only he knew. Not having the mental capability to deal with either of the twins, I just stayed watching as Silas disappeared behind the gates. The tensi
Nyra’s POVI couldn’t remember the last time I had a good night's rest without Nessa barging into my room or Silas pleading for something.Another hiss escaped my lips as I stirred.I hadn’t really thought of the reason why Nessa was always in my room with Silas awake… I shivered in disgust at the
Nyra’s POVMy breath caught. We do not share what belongs to us.The possessiveness in his voice coupled with the way my body reacted to it had held me back from reminding them how little they mean to me.“Say something.” Serenyx pushed but I shrugged her off. They had never apologized for the way
